Heat-Activated Total Solar Eclipse Stamps Reveal What’s Blocking the Sun

Most US Postal Service stamps are pretty, but boring. I recently got some Wonder Woman stamps that looked awesome, but once the initial excitement wore off, they were just stamps to me once again. Well, the USPS has something really interesting to offer now.

To celebrate the total solar eclipse visible in parts of the United States on August 21st (this is the first total solar eclipse visible in the US since 1979, and the first traveling across the entire country since 1918. It’s a big deal.), the US Postal Service is releasing these cool commemorative stamps that can change based on heat.

When they are at regular temperature, they appear completely black, but when rubbed with your ringer, the thermochromic ink reveals the moon. It’s like those heat activated mugs that we all love. I hope they make more stamps like this.

USPS Debuts Views of Our Planets Stamps: Planet Express

To celebrate NASA’s many discoveries, the USPS has just debuted some new stamps with images from outer space. Space fans are going to love sticking some of these on postcards or just keeping them as collectibles, since most of us don’t send snail mail these days.

The stamp set is called Views of Our Planets. It consists of new images of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and of course, Earth. But that’s not all. Thanks to the New Horizons mission to Pluto, there’s a special set of two stamps with a snapshot from July’s flyby and the spacecraft itself.

You can find the eight new planet stamps at your local post offices and online. If you want the Pluto stamps, they will be sold only online. Poor Pluto. Used to be a planet, and is just a dwarf planet now. You’ll always be a regular planet to me.

Star Trek Stamps Celebrate 50th Anniversary: Mail the Final Frontier

Trekkies will want to hop down to their local post office and pick up some of these cool Star Trek stamps that are set to launch this year. The stamps are to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the premiere of Star Trek in 1966.

The stamps have a vintage look and were designed by a firm called Heads of State. There are four images available including Enterprise zipping through a hole that looks like the Starfleet insignia. Other stamps show a member of the crew in a transporter, a bird’s eye view of the Enterprise from above, and one of the Enterprise in a silhouette of the Vulcan salute.

Exactly when the stamps will launch is unclear at this time. There will also be other space related stamps in 2016 including images of our solar system’s planets.

The Dark Knight Posts: USPS Releases Batman Stamps for 75th Anniversary

Batman Postage Stamps

The Dark Knight is everywhere, stopping the bad guys and keeping the peace in the city. After seventy-five years, he’s even helping get your mail delivered since you can find him in action on your envelope. Okay, so I’m not sure if anyone will actually use the stamps to mail out a letter since they’re collectibles, but Bruce Wayne is so awesome, he probably won’t mind being stuck in the mailroom if it’s for the good of mankind.

For Batman’s 75th anniversary, the US Postal Service has released commemorative stamps featuring none other than the Dark Knight. Each sheet of 20 stamps comes with eight different designs, from Batman in action to his signature poses.

USPS Batman Forever Stamps: Dunna Nunna Nunna Nunna… Batstamps!

When they say Batman Forever, they mean that these Batman stamps can be used forever, not Batman Forever as in Val Kilmer as Bruce Wayne. The USPS would never honor that – at least I hope not.

DC Comics is continuing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Batman, this time by releasing some beautiful themed stamps. Eight designs depict four eras from Batman’s history and they cost $0.49(USD). They will be sold in sheets of 20.

You won’t have to wait forever to get some either. They will be available on October 9th at the start of New York Comic Con. When you think about it, Batman is a lot like the USPS. Neither rain, sleet or snow will stop him from his job.
