8 Foot Tall Cardboard AT-AT Sled

The 8th annual Cardboard Classic was held last week in Lansing, MI and probably the coolest entry in the event was this giant AT-AT Walker. Contestants can build any type of sled they want, as long as it’s made only of cardboard and tape or glue. A few awesome dudes went above and beyond the standard flat sled and built a huge 7 foot 8 inch tall homage to the Battle on Hoth entirely out of cardboard. Closeup:

It took them over 70 hours to create this Star Wars masterpiece. One man actually sat down underneath as it sledded down the hill. Unfortunately the ride down the hill was about as successful as the AT-AT’s were in the Battle of Hoth but this time it didn’t take Luke Skywalker and his merry band of Rebels to take it down- just a little gravity. Check out the video of this cardboard creation heading down the hill:

The Emperor will be most displeased with this apparent lack of progress. (via cnet)

DIY Musical Light-Up LED Star Wars Bra

Well this certainly is an odd one. Instructables user caitlinsdad made himself a Star Wars bra. No, not a Slave Leia one, an “Adafruit Flora Theremin LED Bra”. There’s an ultrasonic range sensor and photocell detector sensors connected to an Adafruit Flora Arduino wearable circuit board with a piezo buzzer speaker. What that means is that when you get close to it, it beeps and bloops like R2-D2:

Yeah, that’s weird sounding, yet oddly soothing. That’s supposed to be an X-Wing Fighter on the left, the Death Star on the right and the poof on top is the planet Alderaan (as well as the speaker). It’s a little rough around the edges but nice job to the maker of this one. Definitely unique.

Millennium Falcon Turntable

millennium falcon turntable Millennium Falcon Turntable
Yo Chewy, drop the bass… This Millennium Falcon Turntable was created from a Technics 1200 turntable and a $2 garage sale 1970′s Millennium Falcon that was missing all the parts. Parts that wouldn’t be needed because this hunk of junk will now be playing records. Best use of $2 I can think of…well not including the whole turntable and labor part. (thanks Marco)

DIY Boba Fett Lamp

boba fett light 650x945 DIY Boba Fett Lamp
Mark from Major League Mods has done it again. He made this really cool Boba Fett lamp for his (appropriately named) son Luke. Luke gets a lamp and more time with his Dad because it didn’t take too much effort or time to make. He essentially just gutted this Boba Fett Electronic Helmet DIY Boba Fett Lamp, then drilled a hole in the top and mounted it on an existing lamp.

That’s the backside. Sure it’s not as fancy as this Tiffany style Boba Fett lamp we covered a while back but for a DIY Star Wars project for a kid’s room, it’s pretty great. Check out the full Instructable for more details on the process.

Levitating Light Up Death Star Globe

That’s no moon! One enterprising and skilled craftster Backwards Props created this homemade Star Wars collectible. He took a regular magnetic levitating globe and transformed it into Darth Vader’s little pet project. First he unwrapped the Earth’s crust to reveal the mantle.

Then he downloaded some blueprint plans for the Death Star from the Internet (sloppy work, Storm Troopers, that’s a major security breach leaving those plans out). He cut out the “eye” and sunk it in.

A light sanding and a coat of gray primer followed. He drilled a series of small holes and taped over them to paint the remaining part darker and not fill in his holes with paint.

Then for the sake of accuracy to a fictional ship, he did a series of calculations to get the super star destroyer ship (which he attached) to the exact scale it should be. Wow, the Death Star really is huge, right?

Then he put fiber optic strands in to light the whole thing up and placed it back in it’s rotating stand and presto- awesome. Here’s a video you can see it in action:

Well done sir, well done.

CAT-AT: Star Wars AT-AT Cat Condo

Happy Caturday (also AT-ATurdary). What does one Redditor with a love of all things cats and Star Wars with a lot of time on his hands do? Make a six foot tall AT-AT cat condo, of course. And by condo, they really mean condo. Look at this cat inside it chilling by the bar (yes the bar):

That right there is the definition of a cool cat. It took nearly a month to build and took up his whole living room in the process. Worth it? Uhhhm yeah.

Severed Wampa Arm Cake

In terms of esoteric minutiae in science fiction cinema as translated to the edible form, the Severed Wampa Arm Cake really takes the…. wait for it… cake. Not only is this Star Wars cake pretty accurate looking, it’s sounds pretty freakin’ delicious.
wamp arm cut Severed Wampa Arm Cake
That’s the guava jelly filling substituting for Wampa blood. The Wampa’s fur is actually coconut and his fingernails are Nestle Crunch Crisp bars. JustJenn has the complete recipe if you’d like to duplicate this at home, which is definitely easier (and tastier) than traveling all the way to Hoth, being entrapped by a Wampa and hung upside down in an ice cave, and having to use the Force to retrieve your lightsaber before using it to cut off his arm and escape. Then again, if you’re a disaster in the kitchen, the Hoth option might just be easier.
