An AI created these Star Wars themed timepieces to celebrate May the 4th

What better way to commemorate the greatest work of science fiction than with some science fiction of our own?! These imaginary (fictitious) timepieces were created using Midjourney’s AI art generator (science). Every year, on the fourth of May, sci-fi aficionados celebrate Star Wars Day. The day, colloquially referred to as “May the Fourth be with you” is a play on Han Solo’s iconic dialogue “May the force be with you”. To celebrate this uniquely pop-cultural moment in time, we have some timepieces that take inspiration from various characters in the movie. Each timepiece, whether a wristwatch,  pocket watch, table-clock, or wall-clock was created using Midjourney’s latest versions 5 and 5.1. The prompts were rather simple, to generate ceramic luxury watches (the one above looks exquisite) based on the Star Wars characters. The one on top is obviously an homage to the Storm trooper. It seems a little too literal, but I love the slight cloudy transparency and self-reflection of the ceramic surfaces. The watch, for some reason, has a ceramic strap too, but no harm, no foul. There’s no way this was designed to be real! Scroll down to check out some more.

Designer: Sarang Sheth (via Midjourney)

Just like the Stormtrooper wristwatch, these Darth Vader-themed watches put the iconic Sith lord’s helmet front and center. There’s just a wonderfully light use of gold against the watch’s black ceramic body, making it stand out. The helmet’s 3D depth is a lot on both watches, resulting in something looking incredibly chunky, but I don’t see myself complaining. The only true complaint I had was that I wanted a skeleton watch and the AI didn’t understand what I meant and kept making skull shapes!

Below is yet another example of a Stormtrooper-themed watch. Even though by sheer accident, this time the AI didn’t incorporate the Stormtrooper helmet into the watch face, but instead made a blurred helmet in the background. The result is a rather pristine-looking watch with the Stormtrooper color palette, a date window, and three subdials.

I tried my absolute best to get a Millennium Falcon-shaped watch, but no matter how much I played with the prompt (using even images to coax the AI), the results weren’t satisfactory. The AI image below, however, is the closest I got to something even remotely acceptable. This Millennium Falcon-themed watch may not have the spaceship’s iconic silhouette, but it definitely gets the Falcon’s surface treatment right. The Millennium Falcon has a rather unusual surface, comprising multiple panels welded and riveted together. This chaotic build is visible in the Millennium Falcon watch below as well, with one of the most dramatic watch faces I’ve seen in a while.

The pocket watch below might just be my favorite from this series. It doesn’t take an expert to realize this brass pocket watch is based on the lovable humanoid C3PO. The watch’s vintage design has two tiny dials for eyes, and comes with the same perplexed wide-eyed expression as the tall robot from the franchise. Hats off to Midjourney for also doing such a remarkable job with the reflectivity of the brass, and just the sheer amount of highlights and shadows created by the pocket watch’s intricately detailed surface. This could have easily fooled me.

While its original inspiration blew up into smithereens in the movie, this rather hefty table clock doesn’t look particularly in any danger of being destroyed. The AI had a tough time grasping the size and scale of the Death Star’s different regions, but managed to get the crux of its overall design, with a crater in the center that serves as the watch face.

What’s a Star Wars tribute series without the real star of the franchise? I’m talking about the Baby Yoda seen in The Mandalorian. This particular prompt was incredibly tough to orchestrate. I honestly wanted a table clock with Yoda ears, but Midjourney kept insisting on making a Baby Yoda figurine and putting a clock in its arms. Some of the images it made didn’t even have a clock in them! The one below was the best of the lot, with a rather adorable Baby Yoda holding a tiny timepiece with near-perfect numbering on it (Midjourney is notoriously bad with representing text). 15/10 would buy this.

Our last timepiece themes itself on the descendant of Vader… Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. Now this one might have been the toughest of the lot, as the AI kept confusing Kylo Ren for Darth Vader. It took over 20 images to get something that even closely resembled Kylo’s helmet. To make things more dramatic, I added some red elements on the watch, along with lightsaber-inspired hands to match!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Inspired Stormtrooper: Spaghetti Space Western

Because there will never be enough Star Wars merchandise in the world, Merchoid is selling this The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly-inspired stormtrooper statue. Complete with a cowboy hat and poncho, this stormtrooper is clearly ready to set out on his trusty steed (read: speeder bike) and seek his fortune. And if only he could hit the broad side of a barn with his blaster, he might actually stand a chance.

The statue measures approximately 18 cm (7 inches) tall and is cast from “the finest resin.” Not to be confused with just fine or finer resin, this is the finest resin, presumably mined from some planet in the Akkadese Maelstrom and used to cover the smuggling of glitterstim from Kessel. I’m not a Star Wars nerd; you are!

While the statue may have been made with the finest resin, it does not appear to have been made with the finest painting technique, with even the official product shots appearing as if they were painted by someone who assumed customers don’t have the same high standard in paint jobs as they do resin quality. That’s a shame, too, because I almost had my wife’s credit card out.

Star Wars inspired 3D-printed headphone stands are the perfect accessory to celebrate May the 4th!

I defy you to find a better place to rest your headphones than on the heads of Chewbacca, C3PO, or our dark lord, Darth Vader. If, however, you’re on the market for an incredibly cool headphone stand, the guys at Angled can easily hook you up. Armed with a fleet of 3D printers, the Angled.XYZ builds some of the most incredible pop-culture-inspired headphone holders (and even gaming controller stands). Based out of USA, Angled 3D prints each headphone stand out of PLA to order, and offers a wide selection to choose from. Their Star Wars collection spans probably every popular character you could think of (except Yoda, unfortunately) from Chewie to Luke, and from Vader to even Darth Maul. Heck, there’s even a Jar Jar Binks headphone stand available!

Designed to easily become the centerpiece of any geek’s table, these stands are 3D-printed pretty much to scale, and are designed to easily fit most standard headphones (and even VR headsets!)

Although each headphone stand is 3D printed (and you can even see the lines on some of them), it also has a stunning amount of detail. Take for instance the Chewbacca headphone stand right below. This is because Angled partners with designers and artists to release new variants and models online. Artists create detailed models that get approved by Angled’s team based on sizing, proportions, and its ability to be printed without any flaws/errors. Once a design gets approved by the Angled team, it makes its way to their store and for every sale, the artist gets a commission.

A lot of the designs are originals too, like the Hell Vader below, or the Skull Trooper. This is ideal for someone looking for something niche. However, if you’re a fan of the mainstream, a golden C3PO head or an R2D2 is a perfect purchase! While the models all come in a solid single-color print, they can be customized and painted to make them all the more realistic.

Moreover, aside from headphone stands, Angled’s collection even has stands that hold your Xbox or PS controllers.  Styled as miniature figurines with outstretched hands, the holders even work with remote controls, stationery, and also your smartphone in landscape mode.

Stormtrooper Multi-Tool: The Empire Has a Sonic Screwdriver

If it isn’t already, soon, every single product will be available with some sort of Star Wars theme. Case in point: this Stormtrooper Multi-Tool. It’s a multi-tool, but it’s white and has a stormtrooper head on the side of it, apparently making it just Star Wars-themed enough to justify selling. What do they take me for, some sort of Star Wars fanatic? I’m going to buy two, one for everyday carry, one to leave at home in my junk drawer.

Available from Firebox, the $21 tool includes three different-sized flat-head screwdriver heads, three different Phillips heads, one mini glasses screwdriver, and a flashlight so you can see just what you’re screwing. So while I guess it technically is a multi-tool, that multi-tooling is pretty much limited to driving screws.

But are stormtroopers even handy with tools? Because if they’re as good at repairing things as they are at hitting the target, they’re shooting at, I want no part of it. You’re better off just stripping all the screws so you can’t do any more damage than calling Chewbacca to come and fix it for you.

Columbia Star Wars Outer Rim Collection: Gone Sithin’

There are probably a dozen Star Wars collaborations available at any given moment, but this one from Columbia is low-key bizarre yet still desirable. First off, the Outer Rim collection features Star Wars characters integrated into a line of shirts from Columbia’s Performance Fishing Gear (PFG) line. Second, the print on the shirts depicts tropical leaves, which hide not just the heroic X-Wing and Millennium Falcon, but also stormtroopers, TIE fighters, and Darth Vader himself. Kinda ominous don’t you think? Also, where are the Mon Calamari?!

As with other PFG apparel, these shirts feature lightweight fabric with rear ventilation, anti-UV treatment, and, er, a rod holder. Whatever, it works and I’m down for it. You can order the shirts from Columbia right now. The adult male shirt costs $65 (USD), the adult female sleeveless top goes for $60, and the unisex children’s shirt is priced at $45.

This Stormtrooper-inspired watch brings a futuristic touch to an old-fashioned timepiece

How do science fiction and futuristic tech meld with the design of a non-electronic watch? The creators behind the EMC TimeHunter blend these two concepts quite seamlessly with this Stormtrooper-inspired watch face. Because the design pulls from such an iconic image, it immediately catches your eye (apart from the natural contrast of white on black). The numbers on the watch face have a subtle glow … which looks like an LED screen, but in actuality, it’s just fluorescent-green and white paint, contrasting with the black background. The bright and crisp colors emphasize the futuristic aesthetic of the timepiece.

Aside from the Star Wars-inspired look, this watch has a well-designed surface. It offers more information than just the time of day … providing a peek into the clock’s inner workings. Let’s describe these modules, one by one. First, the center of the watch features the standard hour/minute clock face. On the top right (the 1 o’clock position), there’s a counter for the seconds in each minute. The module in the top left measures the TimeHunter’s rate of accuracy compared to “real-time.” Why does this matter? See, the EMC TimeHunter is a mechanical watch, and occasionally it needs to be rewound to maintain its precise timekeeping. Sometimes the ticker slows down by a hair, and those minor delays add up. In the bottom left, another module tracks the “life” left in the power-source that fuels the precision tracker (not the clock itself). This module mimics a gasoline tank for its design, which I personally thought was a cute touch… and while this product may have been inspired by Stars Wars, it’s a gift that all watch-wearers would love!

LEGO Stormtrooper and Boba Fett Busts Bust Out

Star Wars fans, it looks like there are a couple of nifty new LEGO sets coming that you’ll want to add to your collection. This duo of Stormtrooper and Boba Fett busts do a great job replicating the curves of the on-screen helmets, and will look great sitting on your bookshelf.

The pair of LEGO Star Wars busts turned up on the Facebook page of retailer ToySanta, though they have yet to be officially announced by LEGO. Set number 75276 – Stormtrooper features 647 pieces, while set number 75277 – Boba Fett comes with 625 bricks. Each one comes with a stand, and character name plate as well. It’s hard to tell how big the finished models will be. While I’d love for them to be life-sized helmets, I’m guessing they’re more like half-scale.

Prices have yet to be announced, but they’re expected to sell for somewhere around $70 to $80 USD. I’m guessing they’ll both be out by May, as both boxes show icons celebrating of the 40th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, which came out on May 21, 1980.

Star Wars Icon Lights: The Cute Side of the Force

While the whole internet is abuzz about Baby Yoda these days, he or she doesn’t have the exclusive on Star Wars cuteness. Nope, not at all. And I’m not talking about Porgs or Ewoks either. I’m talking about these adorable Star Wars Icon Lights.

These little tabletop lights feature cute and charming versions of a First Order stormtrooper, Chewbacca, and Rey. I like to imagine an entire Star Wars movie acted out with these guys, big heads, little bodies, and all. Though I struggle to imagine how R2-D2 or BBB-8 would look in this universe.

They’re perfect for adding a splash of light to any Star Wars fan’s desktop or bookshelf, or as a warmly-glowing nightlight. They measure about 5.5″ high, and run on AA batteries (not included.)

All three lights are available from Firebox now, and sell for just $15.99 each.

Timetelling made minimal, made simple.

With the title of the Stormtrooper Clock, Guillaume Saussey’s timepiece design is simple both in color and in form. With the classic black and white Stormtrooper aesthetic from Star Wars, the clock uses black-on-white contrast to create dynamism, while keeping the clock’s working foolishly simple… much like the troopers themselves. To complete the Stormtrooper aesthetic, the clock even has a logo on the back inspired by the Stormtrooper uniform!

The way the clock works is rather simple too. Three circles at the 3 o’clock position denote the time by displaying the hour, minute, and second values accordingly. Numbered discs on the inside rotate as time progresses, while the circular holes on the clock’s face give you a clear indication of the time. It’s as simple as it gets!
