‘Super Mario Maker 2’ update adds Link from The Legend of Zelda

Super Mario Maker 2 level creators will have a few more tools to play with when the 2.0 update for the Nintendo Switch game drops Thursday. The biggest addition this time around is Link of Legend of Zelda fame.

Players have created over 2 million levels on ‘Super Mario Maker 2’

Super Mario Maker 2 players are having a busy summer. Nintendo announced today that players have uploaded 2 million courses on the level creator since its worldwide release on June 28th. The highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch sequel to Super Mario Ma...

Super Mario Maker Gets the Hello Kitty Treatment

Super Mario Maker is one of the hottest games ever on the Wii U game console. It has sold like 3.5 million copies because it lets you design fun custom Super Mario levels to relive those old school gaming memories. One of the cooler things about the game is that there are a few costumes that allow you to play the game as different characters.

Two new costumes land today for the Super Mario Maker – Hello Kitty and My Melody. The costumes will be available on a new Event Course today in the US (May 26) and tomorrow (May 27) in Europe and Japan.

I’ve never really understood Hello Kitty or its appeal. I’ve also found it strange that Hello Kitty appears on some very adult items like lingerie and toilet seats as well as clothing and toys for kids.

Fake Bob Ross Builds a Super Mario Level

I spent many a summer day watching Bob Ross paint on PBS growing up. He made it look so easy and there were never mistakes, only happy little birds and happy little trees. I always figured Bob was high as a MF when he made his show.

The geeks over at A Dumb Thing dressed a guy up in a giant curly ‘fro wig and set him to painting digitally by building a level in Super Mario Maker, using the Wii U’s controller as his artist’s pallette. It’s awesomely weird, just like the real Joy of Painting show.

This should be a thing with multiple episodes. Fake Bob Ross should teach us all sorts of stuff. I’d totally watch that show.

Super Mario Maker Wallpaper Editor: Wall ∞-∞

Not content with making you make your own game, Nintendo now wants you to make your own wallpaper. Seriously though, the big N’s Super Mario Maker wallpaper editor is an excellent time waster.

The editor’s interface is almost the same as the eponymous Wii U hit, which is fortunate because as of this writing, the website appears to be in Japanese only. You can choose from a variety of resolutions for both PC displays and smartphones. Here’s a demo by YouTuber Hewbz:

Fan Absorbs Capcom’s Powers, Remakes Mega Man in Super Mario Maker

Super Mario Maker is famous for its players’ punishing – and sometimes unbeatable – levels, but it’s also become a way for fans to pay homage to non-Mario games. Here’s one such example, an approximation of the first Mega Man game by YouTuber KHace.

Because of Super Mario Maker‘s limitations – block count, lack of actual Robot Masters – KHace couldn’t perfectly recreate the legendary action platformer. But he did a mighty fine job! The music helps sell the remake – it was performed by RushJet1 – but even if you mute KHace’s playthrough below you’ll still recognize the stages. In case you’re wondering how KHace replaced Mario with Mega Man, it’s because Super Mario Maker lets you swap Mario with other Amiibo characters.

KHace added his levels’ IDs on the video’s description. Capcom Man, let Nintendo Man assimilate you so fans can make their dream game themselves with a Mega Man Maker.
