The Shining Jack Torrance Head Bookend: Here’s Johnny!

Looking for the perfect bookend to display alongside your Stephen King horror novel collection? Well, look no further than this Jack Torrance ‘Here’s Johnny!’ bookend handcrafted by Etsy seller KomenzaSculpture. I’ll be honest though, I wouldn’t want to wake up in the middle of the night and see ol’ Jack here staring back at me with that unhinged look of his.

Available for $246, the psychological horror heads are made from clay, ceramic gypsum, and resin. They measure approximately 12″ x 8″ x 8″, making them slightly larger than a real human head. Except for mine. I have a monster of a noggin. I say that’s because it’s filled with a lot of brains, but my wife argues it’s actually rocks and cobwebs.

I’ve never read The Shining, but I have watched the movie multiple times, and every time I do I have nightmares for a few nights. Between the Grady twins, the corpse woman in room 237, and Jack’s descent into madness, I sleep with the lights on and hold it till morning no matter how badly I have to go to the bathroom.

All Work and No Play Makes Vinyl Jack a Dull Boy

The first time I saw The Shining, I was super creeped out by Jack Nicholson. It didn’t help that I was about the same age as the kid in the flick, despite the film having an “R” rating. My only solace is that I was able to torment my brother by crooking my finger and chasing him around the house screaming “REDRUM!”

Fans of the Kubrick classic horror, or those who just collect cool toys will want Funko’s Jack Torrance 5-Star vinyl figure. It has a cartoonish look to it, with Jack having a little blood on his scalp, and a suitably maniacal look in his eyes.

It comes complete with an ax for busting through bathroom doors and a typewriter that’s perfect for working out his writer’s block. Naturally, the sheet of paper sticking out has only one sentence written on it over and over… ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY.

The figure can be pre-ordered now for $10.99 and will ship starting this September from Entertainment Earth.

The Shining Jack’s Journal Is Great for Curing Writer’s Block

The Shining was one of the films that helped put Stephen King movie adaptations on the map. Jack Nicholson was superb in that film and it was scary as hell. Still, I happened to have liked the 1997 TV mini series adaptation better. Fans of The Shining who need a place to write their next great novel will want to pick up Jack’s Journal.

This journal has a cover printed with a typewriter that has the “ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY.” typed, along with inner flaps covered with Jack’s obsessive statement.

It has a ribbon bookmark to help you find where you left off, and each page has lined paper with a typewriter design on the bottom.

The journal sells for $11.99(USD) on ThinkGeek.

The Shining: Atari 800 Style

As far as I know, we never really got any good horror movie games on the Atari 800. But if we had gotten some good horror games for the system, they would have been very much like this version of The Shining, done in the old Atari 8-bit style by Pippin Barr.

I haven’t played Atari for awhile, so basic as it is, this game was fun – mostly because it brings back memories. They really capture the style perfectly as the “game” tells the story, complete with blood-pouring elevators, a garden maze level, and writer’s block at the typewriter. If you are fan of retro gaming and scary movies, you’ll like this one.

Now I know what an Atari horror game is like and I want more!

Adam Savage Builds Overlook Hotel Maze Model from The Shining

Adam Savage is always working on some kind of cool project. The man never seems to slow down. For a recent feature on Tested, Adam designed and built an impressively accurate replica of the hedge maze from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

The maze model from The Overlook Hotel is only seen briefly in the movie, but Adam still managed to use reference screenshots from the film to painstakingly recreate it. The finished product took him nearly a month to build, and looks pretty accurate to me – he even included some tiny figures to help bring it to life, and every little hedge surface has been hand-flocked.

As usual, Adam takes a project and knocks it out of the park. It makes me want to watch the movie again.

This Replica of the Maze from “The Shining” Is A Sweet Necklace

We have a whole category of this website dedicated to geek wear, and while much of what we post is amusing, how much of it would you actually be willing to wear?… and I mean in public, and not GenCon public… real public. Probably not that much. You like looking at and having a laugh about that Guardians of the Galaxy codpiece (not a real product, I hope), online, but you’re probably not thinking that it would look killer with some worn-in selvedge denim and a Belstaff Circuitmaster.

This necklace absolutely would. Kiersten Essenpreis’ replica of the maze from The Shining is made of CNC milled brass and takes 18.6 million revolutions of the machine to complete. It’s a huge centerpiece at 2.25″ x 4″ as well, and it comes on a reversible black velvet/overlook carpet display box and costs a whopping $400. Worth it, if you’re already able to afford the selvedge and the Belstaff.
