This Tron-inspired low-slung serpent will be Metaverse world’s most desirable possession

Tron Legacy set the bar way up high in 2010 when it showed the world what a futuristic set of wheels ought to look like. Those peeking headlights, low-slung body shape and hubless wheels – all sparked a renewed interest in bikes destined for decades ahead.

The dream still lives on as we’ve seen with immaculately designed concepts by budding automotive designers and actual prototypes by big names in the multimillion-dollar industry. The cool motorbike designed by Roman Dolzhenko and the jaw-dropping Dust Tesla are a couple of good examples if you need a head start.

Designer: Limesh Verma

Another flamboyant concept that piques my automotive instinct is the Azrael motorcycle by Limesh. It’s like a future vision of something that Elon Musk would dare to design (if he continues with his automotive ventures) for a colonized Mars sometime a decade down the line. Oozing with the similar assuring crawling stance of Dust Tesla, the Azrael bike has a definitive Tron Legacy influence on it. Everything on this two-wheeled serpent (if I may call it) is tuned for speed and not meant for sharp hairpins – either on a circuit or city streets. The thing is meant to push the throttle on and disappear into the horizon.

Those hubless wheels paired with the lightweight unibody frame crafted from carbon fiber make up for the visual lack of agility to an extent. On closer inspection, the rear wheel seems glued to the outer frame somehow. However, there could be a double wishbone suspension arm hidden underneath. The front wheel has a clearly visible single suspension, giving it a cruise bike-like character, not necessarily in the looks though.

The all-black polished body is contrasted with the sci-fi red or interstellar blue, signifying the element of speed. The ends of the handlebar, suspension springs and rims are done in a brushed metal finish for contrasty features. Either of these hues comes optional for the Azrael which already urges me to hop on and get the engine revving to peak RPMs until the needle shakes!

Light is a minimalist watch concept that has a bit of 80s TRON charm

Watches were originally invented to be able to tell the time whenever and wherever we are, but they have evolved to become fashion pieces and lifestyle choices over the decades. Even without considering smartwatches that can have a multitude of different faces, watches now come in a variety of designs that do more than just tell the time. In fact, there are some designs that make it harder to tell the time at a glance but are so eye-catching, attractive, or intriguing that it’s difficult to give them a pass. This minimalist watch concept design does make it a chore to guess even the hour beyond 3, 6, 9, and 12, but its play on the contrast between dark and light gives it a particular visual character that some sci-fi and pop culture fans might associate with TRON’s iconic design.

Designer: Daniel Wu

The actual inspiration for this minimalist design is the Church of Light by Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Although the design has deep spiritual undertones, the contrast of light and darkness, as well as solid and space, give it an almost otherworldly atmosphere. Light shining through thin lines against a solid or dark background, however, is also a hallmark of the sci-fi franchise TRON, where glowing lines visualize how the lines on a circuit board could light up if the electricity that passes through them were visible.

To be fair, the Light watch isn’t even trying to aim for a sci-fi motif, and the rest of the timepiece implies a more classical bent. The straps are meant to be made of leather, with what seem to be metal clasps and buckles to join them together. The main body’s material is a bit harder to guess, but it would be shocking if it wasn’t metal that was painted or coated with something that would make it look like concrete to go in line with the Church of Light origin.

The face of the watch continues that concrete-like material appearance and is composed of two concentric circles that have thin gaps that let what seems to be a backlight shine through to create the desired visual effect. It’s probably going to be a drain on the battery, but that’s why this is simply a concept design. Actually, this watch would be a beautiful but impractical concept, and not just because of that battery consumption.

It’s easy enough to tell which is the hour hand and which is the minute hand by their proximity to the edge of the watch, but telling the exact time from their positions would be a bit of a challenge. There are grooves on the watch’s bezel pointing to the four cardinal directions, making it a bit easier to tell if the hands have hit those four hours. Anything in between, however, would be a guessing game instead, which actually defeats the purpose of having a watch on your wrist, no matter how beautiful it is.

This e-bike’s humongous rear wheel gives it a self balancing, Tron-inspired vibe!

This e-bike hits all the right notes when we talk of looks, the aesthetic balance of design, and the speedy character of a future that demands increased adrenaline-fueled rides.

This e-bike concept differentiates by merging a more rounded/not-so-edgy (finally a non-Cybertruck inspired idea) with the neon glow of the Tron universe we love. The e-bike concept designed by BaoPham Design is eye-candy for all the right reasons, and our favorite is the humongous tires, providing a contact patch so wide, it could do without the side stands and act as a self-standing bike.

Just imagine this two-wheeler in a sci-fi flick, as the protagonist rides it to the badlands to seek revenge from the evil scientist-turned villain. Sounds like a plot you love? The purple hues of the e-bike provide a mysterious element that is supported by the black and white contrasting sides of the e-bike.

The e-bike’s front provides a sleek aerodynamic shape, giving the e-bike the ability to glide through the air resistance at high speeds. Layered body structure and a balanced frame give this e-bike a definitive style quotient that will turn heads wherever you go.

A single reinforced suspension makes this e-bike glide smoothly on the bumpy streets. The e-bike’s rear gives a complete contrast to the front – with the front sporting a curved faring whereas the rear comes with a flat, covered swing arm. The e-bike’s handlebars are also a straight design, making it easier to hold onto while riding.

3D modeled in Shapr3D and rendered in Keyshot, the designer matches the glossy paint job with a brush of white on the defining contours of the two-wheeler. The low-slung riding position means the e-bike is built for speed, and with fat tires to keep you steady, this e-bike is one for the thrill-seekers!

Daft Punk released an extended edition of its ‘Tron: Legacy’ score

Earlier this month, it was the 10th anniversary of Tron: Legacy. Say what you will be about the film (which you can rewatch on Disney Plus), there’s no denying Daft Punk’s accompanying score was killer. And now you can listen to it in a fresh new way...

Self-driving two-wheeler with enclosed cockpit makes intra-city travel safe during the pandemic

The Autonomous LDR came about as an idea to Luke Mastrangelo during the quarantine. Over the following days and weeks, Mastrangelo fleshed out his idea for an enclosed, safe, self-driving two-wheeler and the Autonomous LDR was born. Designed to be as comfortable as a car but as compact as a motorbike, the Autonomous LDR comes with an enclosed cockpit between two wheels… sort of like a Tron Light-Cycle for current times.

The Autonomous LDR (Long Distance Rover) seats one person inside its spacious cockpit, providing enough leg-room for a comfortable journey. “LDRs use a vision system of front and rear-mounted long-range and wide-angle cameras, radar, as well as circumferential proximity sensors to navigate road conditions and traffic”, says designer Mastrangelo. Designed to be less of a sporty, in-your-face two-wheeler, the Autonomous LDR assumes a slick, cocoon-like design with a matte finish, balancing a modern aesthetic with a design that feels safe, secure, and doesn’t scream for attention – it just gets you safely and efficiently from A to B while looking pretty classy.

This two-wheeler literally has helicopter-engines because why not…

“Over the top” is a phrase that comes to mind when one looks at the TMC Dumont for the very first time. There’s nothing conventional about the bike. It features two massive 36-inch wide hubless wheels on either end of its edgy, characteristic body that features… wait for it… a helicopter engine. Sitting rather visible on the Dumont’s body is a 300-horsepower Rolls-Royce helicopter engine that literally puts the ‘chopper’ in this chopper!

With looks that could proverbially kill, and an engine that could literally kill, the TMC Dumont is a passion project of retired F1 driver, Tarso Marquez. There’s no way this 300hp bike would ever be street legal (that much horsepower could just as well kill the rider), but I’ll admit that with its Tron aesthetic and absolutely, ridiculously over-the-top build, the Dumont is certainly worth appreciating (even from afar, because there’s no way you can escape the sound of a helicopter engine)! What’s next Tarso, a Lockheed afterburner?
