Cleverly engineered Bernard Favre watch winder keeps hand-wound watch accurate when you aren’t wearing it

Even if you’re not the most affluent collectors with assortments of one-off timepieces to brag about; you will still be aware of what a watch winder does. Iterating it for the unaware; these boxy containers (most exquisite in their appearance) keep any automatic watch wound when you’re not wearing one. A winder replicates the movement of the watch worn on the wrist to keep a watch(es) power reserve from depleting while also maintaining the date and time settings.

While at it, most of these above-referenced watch winders are designed, to their sublime beauty, to self-wind automatic watches so the supply of energy to their mainspring is continuous and uninterrupted. But what if you have a collection – or for that matter only a single prized – manual wind watch?

Designer: Bernard Favre

Audacious attempt has been made previously by Orbita with its Supreme Model to precisely wind any self-wound watch. If the boxy appearance of the Orbita winder wasn’t to your taste palate; Crown Ultimate by Bernard Favre is a visual treat, whose primary purpose is to power the mainspring of a wristwatch wound via its crown alone.

Meant to virtually adapt and wind hand-wound watches with any level of complication, the Crown Ultimate is a masterpiece assembled and manufactured entirely in Switzerland, adhering to the highest quality standards.

From the house of Bernard Favre, the Crown Ultimate has been embedded with a microprocessor to ensure a hand-wind watch is wound purposefully and efficiently. Manual wound timepieces require winding at the crown but it is imperative (by mechanical virtue) that they are not overwound.

The Crown Ultimate, thanks to the sensor understands the time of winding and automatically stops, just before the watch is fully wound. It can, therefore, wound virtually any hand-wound watch without the risk of overwinding or damaging its movement.

The intriguing watch winder, in an all-glass casing, weighs 9kg. Replicating the action of finger winding with the most precision, the Crown Ultimate is ideal for collectors with weary fingers, or the mediocre like you and me, who don’t wear the manual wound horological wonder daily, but want to keep the watch running perpetually without any subjective risk of damage.

Star Wars TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder keeps any automatic watch going all the time

TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder

The TIE Fighter is perhaps one of the most distinguishable fictional spacecraft in the Star Wars universe. You see one, and you know it’s something related to the Galactic Republic, but you would still recognize it even if you’re not a fan of the epic franchise. With hundreds to thousands of Star Wars-inspired creations worldwide, it may be challenging to track them all, but some items make a remarkable impression, especially if they have special functions. We don’t want any more useless stuff, so if we are presented with a new object like a sculpture, it better be functional. If it is a furniture item, it should have another function, so the effort isn’t wasted, so multi-functional items are very much appreciated by those who want to keep their lives compact, minimalist, and small.

Kross Studio TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder 3

Kross Studio is a relatively new company, but it has been introducing exciting products from several collaborations. The Studio’s identity includes collaboration as an integral part of the business, and so far, its partnerships have been successful. We remember that 1989 Batmobile Desk Clock as the perfect sidekick to a geeky desk setup. Star Wars fans will never forget the Death Star Watch and the Boba Fett Tourbillon Watch and today, we’re showing you the TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder, described as the next chapter of the brand’s Star Wires-inspired collaboration.

The latest collectible is functional but is available in a limited release only, but the dark universe-inspired TIE Advanced x1 watch winding sculpture can be considered a magnificent piece of art by hardcore Star Wars fans. However, it is mainly a watch winder in its solid aluminum glory with an integrated winding engine to keep an automatic watch always running even when not worn. This operational art object weighs 4kgs and measures 20cm long, 28cm wide, and 17cm high—made from a solid black anodized aluminum.

Kross Studio TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder 2

Kross Studio is known for its excellent design and manufacturing skills, which are clearly evident in the TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder. The functional sculpture has been machined, finished, and assembled in-house, resulting in a piece that harnesses the force of movement to keep any automatic watch going while within the capsule. The Kross Studio TIE Advanced x1-inspired watch winder sculpture is activated when an infrared sensor detects a watch. It stays in standby mode if there is no watch available to conserve energy, but the battery can last for more than two years. If you need to change the batteries, you may need to use a key inspired by the Galactic Empire.

Kross Studio TIE Advanced x1 Watch Winder

Everything about the TIE Advanced x1 watch winder proves Kross Studio’s principles when it comes to disruptive design. The studio has big collaborations and ambitions that have been successful since its launch in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic. This watch winder is no different and we believe more projects with other franchises will be introduced by Kross Studio.

This watch winder uses patented technology to keep count of each rotation for your iconic timepiece collection!

If you own more than one watch, you know the importance of watch winders – they keep your watches running when you’re not wearing them. Depending on your collection of timepieces, watch winders come in varying sizes, from smaller, single compartments to larger ones that can store more than six of your watches. Being no stranger to the game, WOLF, a brand committed to a long history of providing luxury jewelry accessories such as watch boxes, winders, and cases, debuted their latest collection of winders called Axis.

WOLF’s latest collection offers winders that range from single compartments to winders that can safeguard up to eight different timepieces and count the precise number of rotations for each and every one. Utilizing their very own patented technology, WOLF equipped each Axis Watch Winder with plenty of different rotation options for your stored watches. Before you place your watch into the preferred winder, WOLF integrated a 10-second start delay into each Axis Watch Winder so that you have sufficient time to insert the watch before the drum kicks in and begins to rotate.

Additionally, the watch winder itself can be set anywhere between 300 to 1,200 turns per day, which can then be doubled if you select bi-directional rotation. The case itself dons either a copper or powder-coated laser-cut perforated steel surface that melds into each individual watch winding module and accompanying backlit LCD display and locking glass cover.

Each Axis Watch Winder also comes with a power reserve setting, which grants six to 72 hours for the watch to release any stored energy it might have generated after getting wound up, which is provided in increments of six hours. Constructed from vegan leather, each watch module comes with a lock-in cuff that locks in your timepiece for safekeeping. Since 1834, WOLF has been designed watch winders, like the Axis Watch Winder, that look nicer than any watch I own based on the belief that a fine quality case is needed to protect one’s prized possessions.

The Automotive Automatic Crossover!

What do you do with a spare BMW M52 straight-six engine? Restore it to go back into the car? Or to make it probably the most beautiful display for your collection of automatic watches?

Vulcan Innova’s VI52 Watch Winder argues that the latter is also a rather amazing way to go. Having fully refurbished and then customized the straight-six engine block, the VI52 Watch Winder allows you to mount your automatic watches on pistons in sheer style and have them docked inside the piston chambers on the engine. The pistons then rotate, creating movement to charge/wind your automatic watches, while putting on a fabulously opulent show to go with it.

The pistons dock and un-dock at the press of a button. Once put back in place, they rotate with the help of stepper engines that turn the watches clockwise and anti-clockwise at slow speeds (you don’t want the BMW’s engine to do its own thing, right?!). The stepper engines are also a whole lot quieter than what the M52’s engine would sound like. Depending on your watch, you can pick from one of eight different movements to to suit your watch’s make. If you’re a watch and vehicle enthusiast, nothing could glorify those both interests more than the VI52 Watch Winder… that’s if you have $25,000 to spare!
