Water filtering pitcher concept wants you to slow down while pouring a drink

When you’re thirsty or you need to drink water, you just go to your ref, bring out the pitcher, or open a water bottle and just drink. You don’t really think about things like slowing down, mindfulness, staying healthy, or resting. You just need to quench your thirst or count the glasses of water that you drink. But actually if you think about it, drinking water can definitely be connected to all of that and can be your chance to take a break from your normal routine and take a few, deep breaths while drinking.

Designers: Krishna Pranav Vaddiparthi & Ria Shah

Osoi is a concept for a water filtering pitcher for Japanese tableware and lifestyle brand Kinto. The name of the product is the Japanese word for “slow” and its goal, aside from getting you to drink clean, filtered water, is to slow down while nourishing your body. The brand is the perfect inspiration as they are an advocate of using their products to “connect to life” or just taking a break from your work or studies even as you do something mundane.

The design of the pitcher itself uses several elements that represent what it means to slow down on a functional and aesthetic level. The pastel peach gradient represents joy but is also part of the water filtering process. Meanwhile, the spout, representing the water flow, lets you pour the water ever so slowly so you’re forced to slow down and have a sense of calm. The wooden handle is supposed to “celebrate the finer details” while the few wooden parts of the pitcher gives you a more tactile experience.

The Osoi pitcher render shows three different color hues: Blissful Blue, Gray Gardens, and Patient Peach. It’s a pretty interesting ideology to put on a mere pitcher but we all need to stop and smell the roses, or at least drink the water, every once in a while.

Bluevua Takes Drinking Water Purity to the Next Level: Compact 5-Stage RO Purifier for Your Tabletop

As a practice, I NEVER drink direct tap water. Sure, it’s accepted as clean, but there’s a significant molecular difference between tap water and drinking water. Water coming out of the tap usually has a higher concentration of minerals like limestone and iron, and chemicals from treatment plants like chlorine. Often termed as ‘hard water’ this isn’t good for your body, which is why it almost always needs to be purified. The best way, hands down, to purify hard water with a high TDS count (total dissolved solids) is using a process called Reverse Osmosis… but RO filters/purifiers are large, bulky, and often requires plumbing work during installation. Nevertheless, the ROPOT-Lite from Bluevua is doing something refreshingly different.

Designer: Bluevua

Designed as a countertop purifier, the ROPOT-Lite is about the same size as your coffee machine. However, underneath its surface is a comprehensive water filter with 5-stage purification, and the purifier even comes with a borosilicate carafe that collects the water for you at the end of the filtration cycle.

5-in-1 Filter – Their filtration unit is certified by SGS and the RO membrane inside is certified by NSF/ANSI 58.

A perfect appliance for a household with 1-2 people, the ROPOT-Lite filters out 1.2 liters at a time, always ensuring you have a filled carafe of water at hand. Unlike most filters, it requires no conventional ‘installation’, and works right out of the box once you plug its power cable into the socket. Fill up the ROPOT-Lite’s reservoir with tap water and it gets to work, filtering it out and dispensing it into the carafe. The 5-step filtration process removes particles as small as 0.0001 μm, trapping everything from sediment to bacteria/viruses and even heavy metal ions, giving you cleaner water than your tap could ever provide.

Rapid Water Delivery & Water-saving – Produces water at a 3:1 ratio of filtered water to waste. This is 375% more effective than other model.

The way an RO filter conventionally works is by filtering water into ‘clean’ and ‘dirty’ water. While this method of filtration is deemed the most effective, RO filters, by nature, create ‘waste water’ that needs to be disposed. The ROPOT-Lite does too, but has a remarkable 3:1 ratio for clean to dirty water, creating less waste than most RO filters. The disposable water, although not suited for drinking, is perfect for other kinds of use like washing your car, cleaning, or watering trees in your backyard.

Smart LED Display – Shows you the service of your filters while also showing you the water quality.

Fruit Infusions & Smart Reminders – The machine comes with six flavored water recipes.

Each Bluevua ROPOT-Lite comes with a control panel on top that lets you dispense water into the carafe, check the reservoir’s water level, monitor your tap water’s TDS levels, and even manually flush the system to ensure it’s filtering properly. The RO filter sits in a compartment right beside the control panel, and can be ejected and replaced almost like a battery pack or a coffee pod. Meanwhile, the carafe isn’t just for holding water, an optional infuser lets you also directly infuse fruits, citruses, and cucumber into your water, and markings on the side of your carafe serve as hydration reminders, with a timeline that helps you track your drinking habits!

The ROPOT-Lite’s relatively compact form factor (measuring 10″x10″ wide and deep, and 14″ in height) makes it perfect for pretty much any countertop. Plug it into your kitchen counter, have it at your work desk, or your nightstand, or even living room – the ROPOT Lite works seamlessly and without any hiccups, purifying your water silently and effectively. Aside from reducing water waste (unlike most RO filters), it’s also built with a power-saving mode that conserves energy when not in use, saving on your electricity bill too. The 5-in-1 composite filter (certified by SGS) lasts up to a year with daily use, and can easily be replaced periodically. The $299 ROPOT-Lite (currently $194.05), comes in white or blue variants, and you can even grab a few extra RO filters or infuser inserts while you’re at it.

A Discovery Converting Fog into Water Means Rural Areas Can Easily Access Their Own Clean Drinking Water

We have come across so much fog and mist in our lives but have you ever thought of reversing the method of evaporation and using all these abundant water particles for potable use? In a groundbreaking achievement, researchers at ETH Zurich and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz have unlocked a transformative way to address water scarcity and pollution. By harnessing the power of fog, they have developed a cutting-edge technology that converts fog into clean, drinkable water while simultaneously purifying it from pollutants. This innovation not only offers a sustainable solution to water shortages but also contributes to environmental preservation.

Team: ETH Zurich, Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research

Researhers: Ritwick Ghosh, Adrien Baut, Giorgio Belleri, Michael Kappl, Hans-Jürgen Butt, and Thomas M. Schutzius

The core of this revolutionary technology lies in a closely meshed lattice of metal wire, ingeniously coated with a specialized mixture of polymers and titanium dioxide. This unique combination serves a dual purpose: efficiently capturing water droplets from fog and rapidly channeling them into a collection container before the wind can scatter them. Meanwhile, titanium dioxide plays a pivotal role in a chemical process that breaks down organic pollutants found in the droplets, resulting in a purer water source.

The process starts with the closely woven mesh attracting and retaining water droplets, a feat accomplished by the polymers. This clever design minimizes the risk of droplets being blown away by the wind, ensuring maximum water capture efficiency. Simultaneously, titanium dioxide initiates a chemical reaction that disintegrates the molecules of various organic pollutants present in the water droplets. This dual mechanism leads to the production of clean, drinkable water that’s safe for human consumption.

A remarkable aspect of this innovation is its sustainability quotient. The materials employed and the technology’s reliance on solar panels for power consumption contribute to its eco-friendly nature. Harnessing the power of the sun, a mere thirty minutes of sunlight can recharge the titanium dioxide, granting an additional twenty-four hours of purification through photocatalytic memory. This efficient utilization of resources potentially translates into minimal maintenance and energy requirements. The collaborative efforts of researchers have yielded astonishing results. Rigorous testing in both laboratory and small-scale pilot plant settings in Zurich has demonstrated the system’s capabilities. Notably, the nets were able to harvest eight percent of the water content from fog and eliminate a staggering ninety-four percent of harmful compounds that could render the water undrinkable or unsuitable for various applications. This included the efficient breakdown of fine diesel droplets and the elimination of the hormonally active agent bisphenol A.

The technology’s potential extends beyond fog conversion. In industrial cooling towers, where steam typically dissipates into the atmosphere, this innovation can be employed to recover and purify water before its release. This opens possibilities for more responsible water management in industries.

The breakthrough potential of this fog-to-water technology is not confined to laboratories. With its capability to function efficiently in fog-prone regions such as Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Morocco, and Oman, the innovation promises to bring clean, drinkable water to areas plagued by water scarcity. It stands as a beacon of hope for a sustainable future where access to clean water is a reality for all.

The collaborative efforts of ETH Zurich and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research have led to a groundbreaking innovation that transforms polluted fog into a valuable resource—clean, drinkable water. This technology holds immense promise in addressing water scarcity challenges while championing environmental responsibility. With its remarkable ability to harness fog and purify water, it ushers in a future where access to clean water is within reach, safeguarding the health and well-being of communities worldwide.

Clay Bottles are environment friendly and it’s a great initiative to keep them in trend with the contemporary world. Here’s a closer look at the components that make this filtration marvel a reality:

Activated Charcoal:

The Ecological Stackable Water Filter employs activated charcoal’s potent adsorption process, which chemically binds impurities to its surface. This process distinguishes adsorption from absorption, resulting in the thorough removal of contaminants such as bacteria, chlorine, lead particles, and unpleasant odors.

Clay:

Harkening back to the age-old Indian tradition of using clay pots for drinking water, this filter pays homage to the manifold benefits of clay. The filtration process through clay imparts a natural cooling effect and alkaline properties that can aid metabolism, maintain optimal pH levels in the body, and keep digestive and gastric issues at bay. Moreover, water stored in clay containers often carries a distinct sweetness attributed to the minerals present in the material.

Colloidal Silver:

The addition of colloidal silver infuses the filter with antibacterial properties, preventing the growth of bacteria and algae within the filtration system. This ensures that the filtered water remains safe and free from potential contaminants.

Ecofiltro seamlessly blends the richness of cultural heritage with contemporary aesthetics through the design of the Ecological Stackable Water Filter. The culmination of meticulous craftsmanship and thoughtful engineering results in a product that embodies both form and function:

Your Mouthwash is Outdated… The OENKLEN Transforms Water into the Most Effective Mouthwash Ever

Although Ozone-enriched mouthwashes are still considered cutting edge technology, most dentists will agree that traditional mouthwash like Chlorhexidine is pretty bad for your teeth when used regularly. Your mouth needs good bacteria for maintaining hygiene, and your powerful minty mouthwash can often destroy the good bacterial culture, making your teeth and gums more vulnerable over time. The solution? Water! Well, not regular water… but rather, Ozone-enriched water, which has a 99% effectiveness rating against bad bacteria that causes plaque buildup.

While Ozone-enriched water was previously available only commercially and in highly specialized medical setups, OENKLEN brings that technology to your bathroom countertop. Barely the size of a coffee machine, OENKLEN turns regular tap water into ozone-rich water in mere seconds. You can use this water as a mouthwash, to rinse your toothbrush, sanitize your braces/retainers overnight, and build an entire daily oral-care routine with OENLKEN. The Ozone-rich water is capable of sterilizing without any harmful chemicals and solvents, and significantly reduces dental plaque, preventing cavities, sensitivity, and bleeding gums over the long term. It doesn’t have that overpowering minty taste either, which often leaves your mouth feeling ‘burnt’ instead of ‘fresh’.

The dentistry industry has been touting the efficacy of ozonated water over most mouth disinfectants for the past few years. Leading medical journals (and even Colgate’s own website) have listed ‘ozone dentistry’ as the new cutting-edge frontier for dental sciences, mentioning its wide use in Europe and South America, dating back to the 1930s, when Dr. E.A. Fisch began using ozone in dentistry due to its strong antibacterial and wound healing properties. OENKLEN’s countertop device hopes to harness the power of that technology by creating an ozone mouthwash that’s safe, non-toxic, and highly effective… and it does so by simply using tap water.

Plaque Test – Results compared among no oral care, regular oral care, and OENKLEN ozone mouthwash.

The way OENKLEN works is just about as simple as it gets. Pour regular water in, the machine does its work by using patented technology to electrolyze the water and break down the oxygen molecules into nascent atoms that bind to the remaining O2 molecules to form O3 or ozone. The entire process takes just 5 seconds, and the resulting ozone-rich water is 100% natural and organic, elder/children friendly, non-alcoholic (unlike most mouthwashes), and has anti-cavity, anti-bacterial, and anti-halitosis (bad breath) properties. The OENKLEN device offers 4 modes to choose from – a daily mode, deep mode, irrigator mode, and a ‘more’ mode. An app lets you further customize your ozonated water by choosing the O3’s intensity, to help fight more nagging problems like cavities, halitosis, or smoke stains.

OENKLEN hopes to make ozonated water technology accessible by simplifying and condensing the technology to be compact enough to fit on a countertop. The coffee-machine-sized device uses patented technology to produce ozone water (which has been FDA food-safety approved since 1997) in just 5 seconds. The ozonated water has much broader disinfecting applications, and can even be used to sanitize surfaces, disinfect children’s toys, pet supplies, food, and a myriad of other items. Moreover, as a mouthwash replacement, OENKLEN’s ozonated water also hopes to offset the billions of single-use plastic bottles of mouthwash that end up getting thrown in the trash every year.

Each OENKLEN device sits at just 10-inches tall, weighs 2.4 lbs, runs on a 4000mAh battery, and requires only regular tap water as an input. It generates absolutely no waste, charges via USB-C (lasting 50 days on a full charge), and comes with a custom app that helps you set your OENKLEN routine to get the best results for you, and your oral-care requirements. The OENKLEN kit starts at a discounted $159 (specially for early backers), and for an extra $35, you can even get yourself a water-flosser/irrigation-set along with your OENKLEN.

This might be the most elegant water purifier ever designed

With a classiness one could attribute to Scandinavian or Japanese minimalism, the Luvia water-purifying jug believes in absolute transparency – both literally and metaphorically. Made entirely from glass, the Luvia jug helps you see the water as it’s being purified, and is minimally designed enough to make it worthy of keeping on your tabletop or kitchen counter. While most water purifiers have the appearance of an industrial appliance, the Luvia styles itself as a decor-worthy jug that’s beautiful to look at, with a compact catalytic carbon filter suspended in the center, and a chic bamboo lid that lets you keep the jug covered at most times.

Designer: Jacob Shumaker

The usage of glass serves multiple design and functional purposes. On purely the aesthetic front, the all-glass jar is nothing short of stunning. Made with a one-piece design, the jar has a double-walled construction with two levels – one for the water you pour in, and another for the water that gets purified by the Luvia jar.

The jar’s borosilicate construction gives it crystal clarity while a 3mm cross-section makes the jar virtually shatter-proof and more rugged than most. Finally, the usage of all-glass means that there’s no plastic used anywhere in the Luvia’s design. Not only does that make the jar environmentally friendly (and somewhat recyclable), but it also means there’s no danger of unwanted compounds leaching into your water.

Sustainable Carbon Foam Filter – Independently tested to meet the NSF 42 and NSF 53 standards. It significantly reduces harmful substances such as chlorine, chloramine, PFOA/PFAS, pharmaceuticals, herbicides/pesticides, and trace heavy metals.

Simple Filter Setup – Made using eco-friendly materials and production techniques, their filter requires no additional housing, significantly reducing waste.

The Luvia is what we call in industrial parlance a ‘gravity filter’. Pour water into the top, and gravity forces it to pass through the filter into the vessel at the bottom. Without motors, pumps, or any electrical components, gravity helps purify the water, giving you clear H2O that’s fresh, pure, and odor-free. The water, in Luvia’s case, travels through a catalytic carbon filter that traps harmful substances such as chlorine, chloramine, PFOA/PFAS, pharmaceuticals, herbicides/pesticides, trace heavy metals, and more. Additionally, the filter helps with pH neutralization to give your water its great taste. The filter, like the jug itself, is sustainably made with a zero-waste zero-plastic approach.

The Luvia has a pristine, almost heirloom-like quality to it. Its clear design with the simple bamboo lid makes it a wonderful addition to most tabletops and countertops, while cleverly masking that the Luvia is, in fact, a purifier and not merely a regular jug. The Luvia comes with a two-liter capacity, and costs $104 for early bird backers on Kickstarter, while filter replacements are available as add-ons.

U1 is a compact water filtration system that requires no installation to use

Air quality inside our houses has become a big point of concern in the past two years, but that’s not the only thing we need to be watchful of. Clean drinking water has, in fact, always been something that homeowners worry about, no matter what part of the world they’re living in, and there are already countless products that try to address that need. Water purifiers and filtering systems come in all shapes, sizes, and levels of complexity, but almost all of them have one common trait. They have to be installed or at least directly attached to the tap, making it difficult to set up and maintain over time. The U1, in contrast, is something you can put anywhere in your home, and this five-stage water filtration system not only gives quality potable water, it can even give you hot or cold water when you need it.

Designer: RKIN

Click Here to Buy Now: $459 $699 ($240 off). Hurry, less than 72 hours left!

Everyone knows we all need water to live. However, we also need clean water to lead healthy lives. The latter is getting harder to come by, thanks to how we’re poisoning and contaminating everything, and the chemicals that deliver clean water to our houses also make it dangerous to drink directly. Home water filters exist to be that last line of defense against harmful microorganisms and chemicals, but most of them are inconvenient to install and maintain. We have plenty of home appliances these days that brew us coffee, make us homemade sodas, and more, so why can’t we have something that gives us clean drinking water, too?

That’s exactly what the U1 delivers in a more compact box that you can carry and position anywhere in your home or kitchen. It looks almost like a large, boxy coffee maker, but one that dispenses water instead. Yes, you do have to fill a water tank every time it gets empty, but that work is a very small price to pay for what you’re getting in return.

Advanced Filtration System – With five stages, it removes up to 99% of all contaminants, including Fluoride, Chlorine, heavy metals like lead, and more.

Despite its size, the U1 actually makes water go through a five-stage filtration system. Like most water filters, it starts with a sediment filter for larger particles and then passes the water on to an active carbon filter and a reverse osmosis membrane filter to remove almost all kinds of contaminants. An alkaline post-filter adds back minerals, calcium, and magnesium, and an optional hydrogen infusion stage creates antioxidant water. As a bonus, there’s a UV light filter that keeps the water fresh long after the filtration process is over.

The display will also show the Hydrogen content and water quality readings, so you’ll always know your system is working properly.

The U1 might already be impressive because of its compact size and advanced filtration system, but it becomes even more incredible thanks to its special features. At the top of that list is the ability to control the temperature of the water you get, giving you cold drinking water when you want it or hot water when you need it. The intelligent touch control panel also has buttons for dispensing hot water with a temperature that’s perfect for coffee, tea, or baby’s milk.

With the way it looks and works, you could almost say that the RKIN U1 is the coffee machine for drinking water, and it’s priced like an advanced coffee machine, too. For a discounted price of $479, or $459 if you’re fast enough, the U1 promises to give you and your family clean drinking water at the temperature you like. And when it comes time to pack up and move, you don’t have to worry about drinking water in the new house either, because the U1 will move with you.

This clay humidifier, filter, lamp and planter is inspired from sustainable Brazilian traditions!

Clay filters are common in Brazilian homes and designer Lucas Couto brings the best of them to more household appliances. Clay is an organic and natural material used by many developing nations because it is cost-effective, versatile, and easily available. Terracotta earthenware in the kitchen is an ingenious practice that is finding its way back into our modern lives and Couto extends the benefits of this material to lamps, filters, and humidifiers.

“I intended to respect the heritage, avoiding an approach to simply “modernize” the filter. I wanted to create a unique form factor that takes advantage of the materials and manufacturing process while introducing new functional features, such as a handle to assist in lifting the upper reservoir and a base to support a drinking glass,” he adds, “The cooling property of the ceramic inspired me to design a humidifier. This is a much-needed item in my hometown of Belo Horizonte, where the air can get very dry throughout the year.” Clay filters are actually proven to eliminate toxins from water through its existing properties while also keeping it cool according to research published in the book The Drinking Water Book: How to Eliminate Harmful Toxins from Your Water. The efficient filtration is a result of the gravity process, where water passes through the candles and drips slowly into the lower reservoir.

Couto wanted to create a multi-sensorial experience fostered by the terracotta. He retained the color, the textures, and the gradient caused by water absorption for visuals and touch. The water drops inside the filter and the vitrified sound of the material produce a soothing sound. Terracotta naturally smells like earth after rain and it also adds a unique flavor to water. The cooling property of the ceramic is why Couto made the humidifier too. All components are placed in the lid, which also contains a level indicator to assist the user with keeping the humidifier filled. The lamp and the planter were additions to the series to showcase the material in various forms outside the kitchen use. The planter has a two-compartment design to take advantage of capillarity for petrichor! The inner part of the pendant lamp is covered with a white glaze to increase light reflection while the terracotta prevents it from overheating. The clay range is organic, warm, functional, and aesthetic!

This conceptual observation tower also filters Central Park’s ponds

central_park_observation_tower_1

Designed to be the world’s tallest timber structure, and built with its own filtration system, the Central Park Observation Tower concept by DFA aims at doing two things. Increasing public interaction by giving them a centrally located bird’s eye view of the entire park, while also filtering the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, a polluted water-body that accounts for 1/8th of the park’s area.

The proposed Observation Tower would be constructed using Glulam (glue-laminated timber) technology, which requires a third of the energy and creates less than a tenth of the fossil fuels compared to steel manufacturing. It also allows the entire structure, 3.5 times bigger than the Statue of Liberty, to be fabricated off-site and assembled directly on the side. Its twisting, tapered design is meant to cast minimum shadows on the park and nearby buildings, a major concern as of late with the many tall towers being built on Central Park South, and its facade pattern was inspired by the woven basket designs of the Lenapes who once lived in Manhattan. At the very top sits a vertical-axis turbine that powers the water filter that constantly purifies the reservoir’s water, making it fit for swimming, sailing, and other water-related activities in the future, while the tower itself also becomes a landmark as well as tourist-attraction, giving you a 700-ft high vantage point and a stunning view of the park!

The Cleansui filtering jug is as pristine-looking as the water inside

While most water purifiers hide their purification systems behind opaque casings, either to protect their proprietary technology, or to prevent you from seeing the water in case it isn’t crystal clear, Mitsubishi’s Cleansui Water Pitcher is visually a class apart.

With a microfiltration chamber that is literally the only opaque part of the entire product, the Cleansui Water Pitcher is stunningly transparent, looking less like a purification product and more like a chiseled crystal, echoing the phrase “seeing is believing”. Pour regular water on top and gravity pretty much does the rest as the water percolates through Cleansui’s advanced filtration system that removes bacteria, microorganisms, and rust, filtering water down into the lower compartment for you to see. Available in 1.5-liter and 2.2-liter models, Cleansui’s filtration pitchers filter water without electricity, and their filters run for months longer than filters from other companies, purifying water with results that are literally there for you to see!
