This vibrant geometric pencil sharpener brings some Braun inspiration to your desk!

“My heart belongs to the details. I actually always found them to be more important than the big picture. Nothing works without details. They are everything, the baseline of quality.” A stationery design inspired by Braun’s styling needs Dieter Ram’s words to revise his design philosophy, a way to look into the minds that shaped the face of modern industrial design. To channel the same philosophies, we have this Braun-inspired pencil sharpener, and let’s look at how it touches the design principles in every facet of its design.

Meet the Co-Box, an electric pencil sharpener, minimal and geometric by design that is a worthy addition to every design nerd’s desk. The design is a white square shape, accentuated by an orange circle, reminiscent of the button we would see on our Braun machines. The circle also acts as an entry point for your pencil. The shavings get collected in a transparent box, to be disposed of at your conveniece. The design history of our 20th century is filled with iconic design moments, each one a point in time when the object became a part of our everyday life, almost seamlessly – all because of the nature of their design. This sharpener encapsulates the same timeless spirit and just like you hang your favorite posters on your wall, every designer holds an object by their iconic design mentors on their desk.

Simplicity, excellence, and functionality – these are the pillar of good design, and maybe having this sharpener on your desk will remind you to stay decluttered in your design philosophy, the way Dieter Rams envisioned good design should be!

Milo x LEICA children’s camera introduces kids to photography in a fun, intuitive way!

Children are curious. I genuinely believe kids learn more from copying everything we do rather than what we say. And they want to copy us by using the same gadgets we do. For example, my husband picked up his passion for photography from his dad. His dad’s love of tinkering with cameras and picture taking converted this into a lifelong of passion for his son. Understanding this inherent need to pass on our love to our children in a constructive way, Milo x LEICA is a camera that encourages fun, intuitive exploration in children of all ages.

LEICA is known for creating bespoke cameras that are almost collectible. While this clashes with the idea of handing them over to a kid, the quality of the output they deliver are sure to encourage the kids into taking up this hobby with increased frequency. The form of the camera is designed to encourage exploration – with soft rounded edges and a viewfinder that resembles a donut. The design names the viewfinder the visual inspection tool – letting the kid peek through it to discover the world they want to click a picture of. The aesthetics use a soothing yet vibrant white-yellow combination, sparking joy in all they do. Functionality-wise, the camera has a viewfinder, a button to click, a battery level indicator, and a lot that shoots the printed paper out once we click the photo.

Instant cameras are the gatekeepers of our memories. In a world going quickly digital, each printed picture is a gateway into a memory that we can cherish more often. The Milo x LEICA lets us do just that, making photography a fun activity and allowing your child to click pictures that go on and decorate your fridge every day!

Putting the Meow in Homeownership

Get it? It’s a home for your cat! Ok… bad pun. What can I say? I’m just not much of a cat person. But even if you’re like me, there’s no denying the cute-factor of this minimalistic feline domicile! Better yet, it transforms into a scratching “post” and chill out pad when they’re not nestled comfortably inside. Made in super-soft felt material, it’s foldable and transportable. Heck of a lot better than those cat towers! Yuck.

A Better Band-aid

leaf_00

Throw out your icky flesh-colored band-aids! The Leaf-band-aid is a functionally and aesthetically superior alternative that looks and works better than any band-aid before it!

It’s made of a special color-changing material which gradually changes as it senses and begins to react to the temperature of human skin. When it changes from bright green to yellow, it indicates to the wearer that it’s time to switch out.

The aesthetic of the leaf itself isn’t only representational of the color-changing material. The design was thoughtfully chosen for the leaf’s history as a remedial tool for healing cuts, scrapes and wounds.

Leaf-band-aid is a 2015 Red Dot Award Winner.
