This cinema dolly makes short work of uneven terrain to make your filmmaking dreams come true

The rise of smartphones has made almost anyone an aspiring filmmaker, trying to capture precious moments in an almost dramatic fashion. Some of these budding creatives graduate from phones to more sophisticated cameras, but the amount of extra equipment they need can be a bit overwhelming. What if you could replace a gimbal, a drone, and a dolly track with just a single piece of equipment. That’s the proposition that the Snoppa Rover is making, allowing cinematographers to roll the camera, even on the roughest of roads.

The Rover is a cinema dolly that boasts an advanced electronic stabilizer, a simple yet vague phrase that belies the true power this unassuming filmmaking tool really offers. What gives the Rover its ability to shoot stably on uneven ground is the fact that each of its three wheels can work independently of each other while also working in harmony together. Each wheel has its own damping system, sensors, and steering system that allows it to perform tricks that few dollies can do with ease. For example, each wheel can turn 360-degrees on its own, making it possible to do zero-radius turns in place without breaking a sweat.

Three wheels each with independent power control and steering system via three electric stabilizer arms.

That stabilization gives the Snoppa Rover almost unmatched flexibility, allowing cameras to roll on anything from concrete to rocky roads to uphill paths. In fact, flexibility might actually be the cinema dolly’s biggest superpower, allowing you to replace some equipment or remove the need to hire an extra person on your team. Need an extremely low-angle shot? Simply hang the camera upside down at the bottom of the Rover’s pole. If you do already have those other pieces of equipment around, you can also use them in tandem with the dolly, like using a tripod head or gimbal to control the tilt of the camera.

Active Damping System – Has built-in gyroscopes and acceleration sensors in each of its three stabilizer arms.

Steering System – The angle sensor (Hall sensor) at the joint between the stabilizer arm and the wheels of the Rover, the electric steering mechanism can be rotated 360.

Power System – The built-in gyroscope detects wheel speed in real-time, and the intelligent algorithm can distribute the power of each wheel individually.

You can control the Rover whichever way you prefer, whether from a phone or tablet, a dedicated transmitter control, or even manually. You can also pre-program the path that the dolly will take or have it lock on to a subject and follow that around. Hyperlapse is a piece of cake for the Rover, especially since it can “walk” at a steady pace and path, no matter the terrain. Even the best-planned paths fail, however, and you might have to change some points along the way. Fortunately, this dolly is smart enough to memorize the path it did take and replay that exact same route when you need to re-shoot later.

Arc Mode – Rover keeps the lens and the subject always equidistant, rotating one/half turn at the same rotation speed.

Lock Mode – Whether you are manually or remotely manipulating the Rover’s movement, the lens orientation will always remain the same.

Follow Mode – The lens will smoothly follow the movement of Rover. For use when a moving subject or a different subject needs to be shot, etc.

Target Mode – No matter how Rover moves, the subject is always in the center of the frame. This mode is only suitable for use when shooting fixed / still objects.

Smart Object Tracking – If you want to do a self-tracking shot, you can leave it to Rover to perform the tracking while saving manpower.

The Snoppa Rover is built for flexibility to cater to the varied needs of filmmakers, including the need for long hours of work. The dolly’s dual battery system allows it to continue working even when one battery dies out. Simply swap in an extra pack and watch the hours go by. And when it comes time to leave or change locations, simply fold the Rover up and roll out without missing a beat.

This Movie Theater Seat has its own built-in surround-sound system for a truly immersive experience

The FLEXSOUND Pulse generates its own immersive ‘bubble’ of full-range audio around the person sitting in it. Its makers designed it to be the cinema seat of the future, but they see it being used in gaming, live performances, and even at home.

The terms ‘immersive’ and ‘loud’ aren’t necessarily interchangeable… that’s a distinction that the FLEXSOUND Pulse focuses on. It replaces the need for those loud 5.1 surround sound systems by putting the speakers right into their futuristic movie-theater seats, so you don’t just listen to the audio, you FEEL it too.

Flexsound Pulse - The first fully loudspeaker-free cinema sound system

The FLEXSOUND Pulse is an almost cabin-esque seat that envelops you in your personal “soundsphere.” The Pulse comes with carefully-positioned full-range audio systems built right into the seat, giving you an experience that blurs the lines between auditory and tactile. Just how your heart thumps to music at a concert, the chair’s audio systems immerse your ears and body in sound and vibrations without necessarily being loud. Moreover, the chair’s felt-lined walls along the side help contain the sound within the space inside the seat, resulting in minimal sound leakage. This means your audio experience exists within the confines of your chair, so your family and neighbors don’t get disturbed while you’re watching a Michael Bay film or an exceptionally rowdy football match. Sadly though, it also means you can’t really talk to people beside you or efficiently pass the popcorn around (although that might just be a good thing).

Flexsound Pulse - The first fully loudspeaker-free cinema sound system

The chairs are designed to wirelessly receive sound, and can be arranged in a variety of numbers and orientations for smaller private cinemas as well as larger public movie theaters… and just in case you’re wondering, yes, they could potentially be used at home too, along with your TV or your gaming rig. Or better still, just pop on a VR headset and enter perhaps the most immersive movie-watching experience known to humankind.

Watch how this 4.7-inch thick monolithic slab opens up into a comfortable movie theater seat

Designed originally for theaters and cinema halls, this Piet Mondrian-inspired chair is a marvel of design and engineering! Titled the Mono, it exists as a 4.7-inch thick monolithic slab when closed, but unravels into a plush cinema-style seat with armrests when you pull it open. A unique lever mechanism for the seat and armrests makes them rise synchronously by one movement, and its slim, collapsed shape provides extra space and allows more chairs to fit into a given area. The chair comes with a spring-loaded mechanism too, which means it goes back to its monolithic slab shape when you get up. The only thing missing? A place to rest your drinks and popcorn! Watch the chair in action in the video above!

The Mono Chair is a winner of the SIT Furniture Design Award for the year 2021.

These cinema-seats were designed to isolate movie-goers in a post COVID world

Together, the screen and seat create an immersive/isolated environment that actually makes the movie experience better + safer.

London-based design studio LAYER has debuted a new kind of movie-theater seat titled ‘Sequel’ to mark the second, renewed era of film born as a result of the coronavirus. The virus has arguably crippled travel and entertainment the hardest, and LAYER’s design efforts seem to be rectifying the various inherent problems within these two areas. The Sequel seat was designed as a direct response to the coronavirus crippling movie-theaters and their enclosed, highly-packed spaces. The Sequel seats boast of a unique set of features, designed to make movie-going safer. The seats, made to be modular, come with partitions, storage space for your belongings, and self-sanitizing seat fabric in an effort to make it safer for patrons.

Unlike conventional theater-seats, Layer’s fully-adjustable seating modules are placed slightly further apart, with a frosted partition separating individuals. The seats are relatively slimmer than most plush cinema-sofas, but boast of the same level of comfort, thanks to advancements Layer’s made in seating design for its other projects – notably seating for the Airbus planes. The slim, spaced-apart design creates ample room between seats to store items like bags. These individual chambers come with UV-C lamps too, helping keep your belongings sterile.

Other pretty remarkable features include LED panels built into the headrests that allow each seat to flash the patron’s name and seat number, preventing mix-ups in the theater. Once you find your seat and make yourself comfortable, integrated speakers give you an immersive experience, making you feel like you’re right near the action. Flat, easy-to-clean trays let you munch on popcorn while you’re watching the movie too. Once you’re done, the seats auto-disinfect themselves, thanks to the use of an anti-microbial fabric that has copper strands woven into it. The seats are hydrophobic and stain-repelling too, making them much easier to maintain. This allows theater-staff to quickly clean the theaters and set them up for the next show.
