Fiat Multiplina concept rincarnates Classic Multipla as a clever four-seat electric urban vehicle

Urban mobility is evolving rapidly as cities become more congested and the demand for compact, efficient electric vehicles continues to grow. Building on the success of the Topolino and its expanding micromobility lineup, Fiat has now revealed the Multiplina Concept, a compact four-seat electric vehicle that previews the brand’s vision for practical city transportation. Rather than replacing a conventional car, the concept is designed to be a lightweight quadricycle and a full-fledged automobile, offering greater versatility while maintaining a small footprint.

Multiplina draws inspiration from the original 1956 Fiat 600 Multipla, one of the earliest examples of a space-efficient people mover. While the new concept embraces a thoroughly modern electric platform, it preserves the classic model’s philosophy of maximizing interior space within minimal exterior dimensions. The upright stance, rounded bodywork, expansive glasshouse, and cab-forward proportions create a distinctive retro-modern appearance that prioritizes visibility and cabin room over aggressive styling.

Unlike the two-seat Topolino, the Multiplina features seating for four occupants in a two-door configuration, making it more suitable for families, shared mobility services, or urban commuters who occasionally need extra passenger capacity. Fiat describes it as the “missing link” between the Topolino and a conventional passenger car, projecting it as a practical solution for people who find existing microcars too limiting but do not require the size or complexity of a standard hatchback.

The concept was unveiled as part of Fiat’s broader micromobility strategy during a dedicated event in Rome, where the company showcased an expanding ecosystem of electric transportation solutions. Alongside the Multiplina, Fiat introduced new Topolino variants and highlighted the Tris electric three-wheeler for commercial use, illustrating how the brand intends to serve personal transportation, urban logistics, and shared mobility through a unified lineup. According to Fiat CEO Olivier François, the company aims to make mobility simpler, smarter, and more accessible while reinforcing its long-standing focus on compact vehicles designed specifically for urban environments.

Although Fiat has yet to disclose technical specifications, battery details, or performance figures, the Multiplina is expected to remain compact enough for crowded city streets while offering improved everyday usability over existing quadricycles. Reports indicate that the production model is targeted for a 2028 launch, with expectations that it will fit within Europe’s heavy quadricycle category, enabling lower operating costs and greater accessibility in markets where these vehicles benefit from simplified licensing requirements.

The timing of the concept is significant as Fiat continues to strengthen its position in Europe’s growing micromobility sector. The company reports that the Topolino became Europe’s best-selling electric quadricycle in 2025, with demand continuing to rise in 2026. As more cities introduce low-emission zones and prioritize compact transportation, vehicles like the Multiplina could offer an appealing alternative for short-distance urban travel without the size and expense of traditional passenger cars.

This $15K Electric Mini Morphs Into 3 Car Styles – And It’s Only 8 Feet Long

There’s something cheeky about mini cars that grabs attention. The MINI Cooper and Fiat Topolino are very good examples of compact hatchbacks carrying the aura of a supercar. The small size of a four-wheeler is more valued in modern times, where roads are flush with vehicles, and the maneuverability of a mini car promises so much value.

Now, designer Wini Camacho takes the Topolino as his canvas to graduate into a versatile mini car dubbed Topolino XS that morphs shape depending on the rider’s intent. It can be a roofless targa on a bright sunny afternoon, a coupe for a ride to the party in the evening, or a roadster for late-night skirmishes on the freeway. The versatile three-in-one system of the modular concept vehicle nevertheless preserves the minimalist appeal and simplistic design approach.

Wini retains the basic DNA of the mini hatchback while exploring the elements like the balanced out front and back section for a more flowy design. All this while making the overall footprint of the electric vehicle smaller and compact at 2.4 meters long and 1.4 meters wide, even though the Topolino itself is quite compact. The headlights on the XS modification have a more human-like character to them – they actually do look like a real pair of eyes with the circular dots encapsulated by the white LED beams. Tailights on the rear are made up of hundreds of little LEDs that the rider can customize to their liking.

On the inside, the driving dynamics take a huge leap with the central steering wheel hub for more centralized control of the instruments and safety features. This doesn’t affect the driver’s style of driving in any way, as the vehicle is already quite small to make much of a difference. If it were a Dodge Viper, Rolls-Royce Phantom, or Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, this would not have been an optimal strategy. The display elements with the Topolino XS are kept to a minimum in line with the less-is-more wireframe.

To spice up things for the prospective riders, the designer imagines the XS in two variants: PURO and ABARATH. While the PURO stays close to the roots with respectable performance figures and a rear carry-on luggage accessory for daily driving, the ABARATH is more of a beast with its bumped-up performance rating for adrenaline-pumping weekends. The looks also take a more aggressive positioning for the ABARATH in glossy black skin paired with the contrasty red wheel rims.

FIAT unveils bold Panda concepts dressed as a pick-up, SUV, camper, fastback and city car

At the Geneva Auto Show FIAT has revealed its plans to launch a Panda-based vehicle every year until the year 2027. The initiative kicked off at the show with the reveal of five concept cars in line with this vision of a next-generation Panda family that’ll grow bigger with time.

For those who don’t know, the Panda is FIAT’s minicar that’s been in production ever since 2011. The vehicle comes in a basic hatchback form and a much tougher Panda Cross version that’s called the Panda Cross. For the future, FIAT wants to expand the basic body styles to the pickup, campervan, SUV and coupe crossover with the Panda concepts that’ll eventually take shape as production cars. The concepts in question for the global market here are all based on the platform by Stellantis, the parent company.

At the time of writing, FIAT hasn’t given any insight into the technical details but has confirmed that all these variants will be bigger than the original Panda. Also, they’ve confirmed that the production version (sometime in the future) of these concepts will come with the option of gas, hybrid or electric powertrain. Other than that, around 80 percent of the components will be common to all the versions. So let’s have a look at all of them in detail right away.

City Car Concept

As clear from the name, the City Car will be a glimpse into the general direction of the brand in the future. This one is similar to the Panda in more ways than not. There are eye-candy square doors and peculiar pink tires (inspired by the Barbie, maybe). The car is inspired by the iconic Lingotto building in Turin known for its rooftop test track. Reminiscences of the structure are apparent in the design of the concept including things like the structural lightness, overall bright theme and the space optimization on the inside. Talking of the interiors, they are made from sustainable materials including bamboo and recycled plastics.

 

Pick-Up Concept

FIAT already has a foothold in the Brazilian pickup market in the form of the Strada. The second concept wants to build on the success by inculcating fun and functionality with this concept. The perfect amalgam of a pick-up with the functionality of an LCV and the comfort of an SUV, the vehicle is fit for urban lifestyle. For people who like an outdoorsy lifestyle, the FIAT pickup concept sets the tone for the future.

Fastback Concept

This concept is an ode to the success of FIAT Fastback in Brazil and the FIAT Tipo in the Middle East and Africa. Created on the same modular platform and bearing a very sporty look, the Fastback concept builds on the sustainable commitment of the brand without compromising on the performance quotient. This comes courtesy of the aerodynamic performance for lower fuel consumption.

SUV Concept

This is a more muscular version of the Panda resulting in a more spacious interior for a family to ride in comfort. On those lines, the car is loaded with all that a family would desire in a performance SUV. Top that off with the safety, versatility and attractive design of the concept and FIAT lovers will have enough reason not to go elsewhere.

Camper Concept

Lastly, FIAT has created the ultimate all-terrain vehicle that brings adventure seekers close to nature without much fuzz. According to FIAT, the concept pays homage to “Fun-ctionality” of the 80s Panda. It has the versatility of a regular car for urban commutes and the toughness of an SUV to go adventuring anytime, anywhere.
