Man Watches Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ on Game Boy Advance

To spite Christopher Nolan for wanting people to visit movie theaters in the middle of a global pandemic to watch his movie Tenet, YouTuber WULFF DEN managed to put the movie on five Game Boy Advance cartridges so he could watch it the way it absolutely was not meant to be: super pixelated and at four frames/second. I can already feel my eyes drying up like raisins.

According to WULFF, “This movie was intended to be seen on the big screen. So let’s put it on a really tiny Game Boy Advance screen and blow those pixels up so we can barely see anything :D! This is quite possibly the worst way to watch Tenet and still be able to see what’s going on.”

I actually can think of worse ways to watch Tenet and still see what’s going on, but they do all involve me watching the movie from jail, and I ain’t going back to jail just to prove my point.

This multifunctional keyboard is designed to switch from working to game with one click!

Modern video games can be played on plenty of different platforms – PC, VR, handheld, streaming, to name just a few. However, gaming hardware that also accommodates computer keyboards is rare. Inspired by the Logitech K380, Elvin Aliyev designed his own gaming keyboard with a built-in controller called Switcheroo that he hopes will bring an entirely new experience for those of us who game as much as we surf the web.

The Switcheroo is the size of a regular QWERTY keyboard and comes with a built-in input control and direction pads in opposite corners, resembling a wider interface of the prototypical game controller. Along the keyboard’s topmost edge, users can find the RB button just above the input control pad and the LB button above the direction pad. Aliyev designed Switcheroo for the occasional gamer who also uses their keyboard for designing and artwork, ideal for those WFH lunch hours that could be spent playing video games instead. To make the keyboard completely portable, Aliyev designed Switcheroo to be battery-operated and Bluetooth-compatible. Enhancing the keyboard’s portable and ergonomic features, Aliyev integrated finger notches on Switcheroo’s backside for easy carrying. While Switcheroo is not a replacement for a full-sized keyboard, it can still be used as one when it is connected to your gaming platform. When using Switcheroo as either a keyboard or game controller, users simply slide a tiny knob, located to the left of and below the input control pad, to indicate their preference and the keyboard adapts accordingly.

Aliyev also incorporated an empty key that designers and 3D software engineers can program themselves to create shortcuts or access hidden features. Situated in the bottom-left part of Switcheroo, Aliyev repositioned the ESC key so that it’s conveniently located next to other frequently used keys for designers and engineers, like the ALT key and his new empty key. Bridging work and play, Aliyev designed a keyboard for the gamer in all of us.

The Black Shark 3 gaming smartphone comes with shoulder-buttons and a 7-inch screen

It isn’t on its way to replacing a Nintendo Switch yet, but the Xiaomi Tencent Black Shark 3 could just be the best Android gaming device on the market yet. With a glorious 7.1 inch screen that’s more than big enough to immerse you in a game of Fortnite or Minecraft, the Black Shark 3 actually lets you tweak pressure sensitivity on the left and right-hand corners to better your in-game experience. The phone comes with 5G support and has two heat-sink pipes for faster cooling while you play away. To elevate your gameplay experience, the Black Shark 3 comes with left and right shoulder buttons that give you greater tactile control, along with an 18W magnetic fast-charging port on the back of the phone (on the opposite side of the camera bump) to allow charging while gaming.

The Black Shark 3 is, its gaming features aside, a pretty good daily-driver smartphone too. The phone comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of internal storage, a display with a 90 Hz refresh rate, a triple camera layout on the back, and get this… a 3.5mm headphone jack for gaming headsets.

Meet the Alienware Concept UFO, a handheld Windows 10 gaming device modeled on the Switch

Designed literally to be the Switch of PC Gaming, Alienware debuted their Concept UFO at CES this year. They’ve, however, been very quick to point out that this is still a very nascent concept and may look nothing like the prototype they’re showing… but they’re serious about developing a handheld PC that’s dedicated towards Windows-based gaming.

For long, Alienware has been considered one of the oldest and most renowned gaming brands, with laptops and CPUs that cater specifically to the PC Gamer. However, noticing the steady shift towards mobile gaming in the last 2-3 years (with the Nintendo Switch and the Razer Edge Pro, and with Google Stadia soon to make its presence felt globally), Alienware chose the perfect time to head-dive into the portable gaming world. The Concept UFO, which really has no details or launch date at the moment, shows the company’s vision to retain the PC gaming market, but to shrink the PC itself. The handheld console is almost like a Switch knockoff, with a screen that lets you attach controllers to the side. The controllers can be used as a part of the display unit, or plugged into Alienware’s control-hub, giving you a dedicated joy-con. The device, however, is slightly larger than the Switch, with an 8-inch 1900×1200 display, a trapezoid shape, and a back-panel that opens out into a kickstand. The device also features USB-C charging and a headphone jack. The controllers are fully featured too, with all the buttons on the front as well as a total of four shoulder buttons. In an attempt to stay ergonomic (you’d need to for a device that big and heavy), the controllers come with a significant bit of mass, curving around the back for better gripping. Personally, this makes the Concept UFO a little clunky and slightly challenging to carry around with you everywhere, but for a gamer who’s heavily invested in PC gaming, this might just do the trick. So is Alienware (or its parent company Dell) planning on releasing this device? Nobody really knows yet. All we do know is that it seems like they’re taking portable PC gaming pretty seriously.

30. Intellivision: Released by Mattel (Yes, the Barbie company) in 1979, Intellivision has sold over 3 million units to date. It was discontinued in 1990, and remained Mattel’s only gaming console ever produced until 2006. It is considered by some as the first 16-bit gaming console.

29. Color TV-Game: A forgotten Nintendo creation, Color TV-Game sold over 3 million units since its release in 1977. It was the best selling console of the first generation, and actually ran on C batteries, while all models came with an AC adapter.

If you live in Japan and aren't already red-shelling on a Pokémon or risqué edition 3DS XL, maybe one of these three new bundles will inspire you. For the minimalists: the Monster Hunter Tri G bundle complete with all-black 3DS XL (known as the LL in Japan), releasing November 1st for 21,800 yen (approximately $280). Following one week later (on the 8th) is the Animal Crossing: Jump Out bundle with white and pattern handheld, setting you back 22,800 yen (approximately $290). And, for the same price, the pièce de résistance of the trio -- a New Super Mario Bros. 2 bundle with black and embellished red XL, expected November 15th. PS Vita and PS3 cross-buy: more discounts, less freebies

Sony's PS3 / Vita cross-buy program might not be as simple as "buy one, get one" after all. Taking the stage at its pre-TGS press event, Sony announced a new Hot Shots Golf game as one of the program's first adopters -- citing a price reduction, rather then a free game, for users who pick up either the PS3 / Vita version of the title. In contrast, Sony stated at Gamescom that buyers of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault would receive a second copy of the game for free upon purchase, indicating that cross-buy discounts may vary from title to title. Remember kids: just because you bought it once, doesn't mean you won't have to buy it again.
