Vinyl music system lets you have an aesthetic listening party

While we’re now used to listening to our favorite tunes on our streaming service of choice, there are times when we would still crave to listening on unadulterated and uncompressed formats, specifically on vinyl players. One of my dreams is to have a listening party with my fellow K-Pop stans and listening and dancing to tunes from vinyl records. But actually setting up a system can be intimidating for newbies, not to mention expensive.

Designer: Dum Audio

The Stereo System Bundle that Dum Audio is offering will remove some of that hassle of choosing what things should go into your vinyl record set up (although the expensive part is still there of course). It has “everything you need and nothing you don’t” in a sense that it has all the basics that you would need to listen to your records with an “immense and crystal clear sonic experience”. This includes the turntable itself, an amplifier, and a pair of passive speakers, with the option of adding a passive subwoofer in case you want more base.

The entire system has a real hardwood veneer with aluminum hardware so if that’s your aesthetic in your living room or bedroom, it should go well with the whole ambience. The turntable has an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge and an MDF flinth with real hardwood veneer and a custom aluminum tonearm. It plays at 33.3 and 45 RPM. The integrated amplifier has analog inputs and an output for the passive subwoofer that is coming soon. You can control the bass, mid, and treble and has a power output of 100 watts RMS per channel. The passive speakers has custom Dum Audio drivers and has a power handling of 100 watts RMS per speaker.

If you still want to listen to songs on your streaming service, the amplifier has Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX so you can still stream from your smartphone or computer. If you have around $2,000 to spend for a system, this is something you can consider if you don’t want the hassle of looking for individual components. It also looks pretty aesthetic so that can add to the joy of listening to your favorite vinyl records.

Merging sound and sculpture, this HIFI cabinet uses a tapering design to deliver stunning results for audiophiles

In the world of audio enthusiasts, where the pursuit of pure sound quality reigns supreme, the Three-Eyed Eel (3Eel) emerges as an audacious masterpiece, combining impeccable design with high-fidelity sound reproduction. Crafted with an unwavering dedication to both form and function, the 3Eel stands as an iconic testament to the marriage of aesthetics and audiophile excellence.

Designer: Andrew Roberts

Audiophiles, those devoted souls who seek nothing short of sonic perfection, now have a new muse in the form of the Three-Eyed Eel. This remarkable speaker is more than just a vessel for sound; it’s an artistic statement that harmoniously weaves together visual allure with auditory brilliance.

With its distinctive and captivating appearance, the 3Eel isn’t merely a speaker—it’s a piece of art that resonates with audiophiles who have an unquenchable thirst for pure audio bliss. This is a product designed for those who understand that true sound quality is an experience that transcends the mundane.

The 3Eel isn’t just another speaker—it’s a bold venture into the world of cabinet design. This enclosure, often overlooked in favor of the drivers it houses, takes center stage in the 3Eel. The team behind this masterpiece delved deep into the realms of form and structure, discovering how the very design of the cabinet could elevate the art of high-end audio reproduction.

The challenge of managing rearward energy from driver units has plagued audiophiles for ages. Traditional cabinet designs have struggled with internal resonance, a culprit that robs sound quality of its brilliance. The 3Eel addresses this dilemma head-on with innovation and flair.

Inspired by the pioneering work of Laurence Dickie and his use of tapered tubes in acclaimed loudspeakers, the 3Eel employs a ‘triple chamber’ form that elegantly meanders into a diminished taper. This ingenious design channels the rearward vibrations through internal chambers, effectively silencing unwanted resonances. The outcome? Driver units perform unhindered, delivering sound that’s true to the essence of the original recording.

One of 3Eel’s many remarkable attributes is its devotion to accessibility and evolution. It’s not just a static masterpiece; it’s a speaker designed for exploration and personalization. The creative minds behind the 3Eel envisioned a product that empowers its owners to replace and upgrade components with ease.

Breaking away from the shackles of conventional design, the 3Eel’s modular structure offers detachable components that encourage tinkering. It’s a canvas awaiting the brushstrokes of audiophile experimentation. The cabinet’s spacious and transparent design beckons enthusiasts to dive in, fostering a spirit of discovery and innovation.

The Three-Eyed Eel (3Eel) is more than a speaker; it’s an odyssey into the heart of audiophile passion. This remarkable creation transcends boundaries, merging the realms of design and sound with unapologetic audacity. For audiophiles, the 3Eel isn’t just an object—it’s a vessel for the pursuit of pure audio. With its innovative design, unrivaled sound quality, and commitment to evolution, the 3Eel stands tall as an epitome of audio excellence. It’s a symphony for the eyes and ears, inviting enthusiasts to embark on an everlasting quest for sonic perfection.

NES-SY37 synth project by Love Hultén is inspired by the retro gaming console

Only real musicians can understand the beauty and benefits of synthesizers. Those who are not into music may only appreciate the cool sound effects when you press or play with the buttons. But if you are into electronic 80s or synth-pop music, you will love anything with synthesizers. Many may also be amazed at how a synth looks, especially if Love Hultén designs it.

There is a reason why this designer is always featured here. His creations always show retro-modern style and jaw-dropping craftsmanship. The last one we noted was the TE-LAB handcrafted sound machine. There was also that MIDI Synth designed in collaboration with digital artist Lirona. We remember a few memorable ones too like the EC1 modular synthesizer that can fold up and fit inside a slim wooden suitcase and the MDLR-37 foldable synthesizer that wowed us with its spring reverb and tape delay.

The latest design is based on an old Nintendo Entertainment System, so this is another retro-modern creation. Officially called the NES-SY37, this is a conceptual synthesizer that will let you play synthesized music and old NES games. This thing accepts NES cartridges, and you can view the games on the 8-inch LCD screen with 800 x 600 resolution. You can control the game with the keys, but you can also use an old NES controller attached to the 7-pin port.

The NES-SY37 is an NES-inspired synth project that pays homage to the old way of playing video games. Those who grew up playing NES will love this sound machine as it brings back memories of when we were young and carefree. It combines several components like an NES Poly Chiptune Synthesizer, real-time MIDI visualizer by p1xelfool, Twisted Electronics’ hapiNES L, and spring reverb.

The Swedish craftsman and audiovisual artist Love Hultén loves to capture the old and combine it with the new. When put into work, the results of his passion and talent are beautiful, unique projects that evoke feelings of nostalgia. One glance at this creation is enough for you to love Love Hulten once again.

NES-SY37 NES inspired Synth Project Information

The NES-SY37 is wooden with details based on the old gaming console. The red buttons and black D-pad are very NES-inspired. The synth part of this machine includes an 8-bit MIDI visualizer, a keyboard, NES Poly Chiptune Synthesizer, and a multi-track chip-tune synth. You can say this is more of a mod, but wow, it really is one quirky and awe-inspiring creation.

TE-LAB handcrafted sound machine lets you play and create sci-fi sound effects

Music makes the world go round. Without it, life is meaningless. Music serves different purposes. It entertains, evokes feelings, and enhances experiences. Sound, in its raw form, engages audiences and helps communicate. When you play sound in an ordered manner, it turns into music.

One can’t just claim to be a music expert just because he listens to different genres or plays instruments. There are audiophiles and then there are sound engineers. These people can be considered experts in their fields in ways regular music lovers can’t comprehend. Perhaps they hear music and sound differently. It’s inexplicable but maybe playing around with the TE-LAB will give us an idea.

Designer: Love Hultén

TE-LAB is a project by designer Love Hultén who is also an audiovisual artist. This Swedish craftsman has created this semi-modular sound machine based on various effects and instruments. Hultén used modules from the Teenage Engineering PO Modular series to build the core sound engine.

You will see different features like a sequencer, filter, analog oscillators, and a Holograms Microcosm. The latter comes with eleven unique algorithms right on a granular effects pedal. When you play sounds on TE-LAB, you will hear the rearranged sound the way the machine interpreted it.

If you’re into sci-fi stuff, you will love the sounds this machine can make. Artists and musicians can get inspiration from the unique sounds and timbres. You can try a lot of effects from loop techniques to delay, sampling, and pitch-shift. Other features of TE-LAB include a circular oscilloscope and a turntable sequencer with pins.

The large device stands out as a bright yellow wooden console. It’s handcrafted which makes it special. Love Hultén also looked at modules from Holograms Microcosm. The design of the sound machine was inspired by a Lomond Campbell turntable.

The sound machine is like a toy for the big boys. Those who want to practice being a disc jockey may try this. Those who want to learn sound engineering can add this to your collection. Those who want to just play, get this. If you want those sci-fi sound effects playing, TE-LAB will be perfect for you.

Brionvega Totem rr231 stereo system transforms from minimalist art piece to functional audio machine

Even audiophiles might not be listening to music all day, so this modern take on a 70s audio system transforms into a piece of minimalist room decor when not in use.

As with almost everything in design, fashion, and culture in general, there has been a revival in interest and sales of vinyl records. Those naturally required the production of equipment that could play that old-school media and even recreated the little flaws that made them sound unique. Many modern turntables, however, are pretty basic and try to also recreate the look of their predecessors a bit too faithfully. One company, however, took inspiration from a design that was already way ahead of its time when it came out decades ago, reviving a stereo system that blends form and function in a truly unique way.

Designer: Mario Bellini (via Brionvega)

When famed Italian designer Mario Bellini created the original Totem rr231 back in 1971, he was already thinking outside the box, literally and figuratively. In contrast to the turntable designs of that period, Bellini included speakers to create a fully integrated and independent audio system. But rather than just create a set of separate pieces, the designer created a single piece that embraced minimalism ahead of current design trends.

In its “dormant” state, the Totem rr231 deceptively looks like a simple white cube with seems that run across its width and down the middle. Those seams, however, give way to two speakers, each with a two-and-a-half-way system, that swing out like the wings of a futuristic machine. Those speakers can actually be separated from the main body and positioned in other parts of the room to fill it with your favorite tunes.

The rest of the box houses the ProJect turntable and a set of buttons and dials that match the minimalist aesthetic of the Totem rr231. Unlike the original, this modern-day version naturally embraces current audio technologies, including Bluetooth connection for streaming from mobile devices. In more ways than one, Brionvega’s recreation blends the past and the present in a deceptively simple design.

Admittedly, the Brionvega Totem rr231 requires a bit more physical work to use, especially if you keep it closed in its box form. Of course, that has the benefit of having a minimalist piece of art in the room at no extra cost, but that user participation in opening the box also creates a sort of “ritual” that makes the act of listening to music more personal and, in a way, more human.

This side table is also a powerful 200W high-definition sound system!

It may look like a demure little table for your coffee cups and magazines, but the Cube was designed to pack a punch. Sitting within its spectacular hand-crafted wooden frame is an incredibly powerful 200W speaker system comprising two full-range speakers and a massive double bass reflex woofer with dual aluminum vents. That’s audiophile-speak for “This table knows how to drop the bass”.

Ultimately the Cube is a uniquely expressive piece of furniture that’s more than just a surface for resting your cups. Combining patented audio-technologies into one award-winning piece of furniture, the Cube surprises with how good it sounds for a device that small. Moreover, it eliminates the need for you to even own a separate speaker set because your furniture IS your speaker set. Considering how the Cube could be used by regular people as well as audio-enthusiasts, it comes outfitted to connect to a variety of devices. It has built-in Bluetooth, which means you can hook your phone, tablet, or even laptop to it, while the option of analog RCA connectivity, digital optical input toslink (DAC 24-bit 192Khz), and a 3.5mm input means the Cube could be hooked to a host of external devices like your television or even vinyl player. The Cube’s upper surface is perfect for resting your phone, placing a mini bonsai planter, or just stashing magazines. If you want to use it as a table to keep your coffee, you’d best use a stable cup and a coaster, because the Cube’s control panel sits on the top too, allowing you to play with the volume, bass, and treble. There’s even a shelf below the audio unit, for storing larger piles of magazines and books.

Each Cube comes meticulously hand-crafted in the Spanish and French Basque Country regions, close to La Boite’s company headquarters. Although they come outfitted with spectacular sound-systems, the Cube’s primary role really is to look like high-end furniture too… to that end, the Cube table features a variety of styles including dark and light wood while also using materials like leather trims, metal accents, and even a variant with a Corian counter-top for that faux-marble effect. Given how exquisitely they’re built, the Cube doesn’t come cheap. Each unit retails for €1290 ($1531), and the company goes as far as to offer free shipping in France and the rest of the EU as well as an international 3-year warranty on the entire unit.

This camera-equipped smart soundbar upgrades your Netflix binges as well as your Zoom conferences!

This year has been the year of Netflix and Chill. Movies are now releasing on the streaming platforms because theatres are closed and that has led to many of us investing in a better sound system for our homes. Since we aren’t spending on cheap tickets and expensive popcorn, we can upgrade with tech like this Crestron UC video soundbar! It does a lot more than make binge-watching better, it is actually a smart soundbar that also features video conferencing capabilities and a camera to give your work from home setup a boost as well!

The modular soundbar is available in three different versions, both the camera and sensor are attachable accessories depending on when they are needed. “The basic principle of the design is an architectural hierarchy, that optimizes the use of design elements and material,” describes the team. To make the soundbar more visually streamlined and ‘clean’, all technical elements of the product were moved and placed in a way that they are minimally visible.

The wall bracket, ventilation, and the space for storing cables were especially hidden away to give the soundbar unobtrusive aesthetics. “To reach this area, the entire front part of the product can be easily opened. The front includes the interface with display, speakers, camera, sensor, and led bar, as part of the functional level,” says the team. The Crestron UC video soundbar’s linear and smooth design make it a great addition for your sound system but since we are working from home and our lives are one giant zoom call, I guess this can count as an essential “business expense”!

The weekend is here and we can all do something to catch a breather (at home of course). You can either cook up a gourmet meal, read about positive developments for a change, or pick out what sound system should be the hero of your dance party (again, only at home with people already in your home). I am going with the dance-party-for-one option and my weapon of choice this weekend is the Slab Console! The Slab Console is an upscale adult furniture piece with a vibrant, fun personality – so you can upgrade your home’s interior design level and also have a lit time with your playlists! This console is the ultimate audio system, it brings you movie theatre quality sounds with living room-worthy visuals. Inspired by the consoles that existed in the 60s and 70s, the Slab brings high fidelity audio to your space with immersive 5.1 surround movies and games. It is equipped with passive left, center, and right channel speakers along with a 12 inch recessed active subwoofer and a 500 Watt internal amplifier which basically translates into “I am a top-performing audio system worth every dollar of my $6,995 price tag.” Because it was designed to be future-proof, you can simply swap out the receiver as and when technology evolves as the aesthetics of the console were made to be evergreen.

You can expand the Slab Console by adding an A/V receiver or an amplifier/processor combination that works for your home. It looks like a credenza but with a 2020 tech upgrade that replaces the individual freestanding speaker set-up you might have. The whole sound experience is now wrapped into this modern, sleek, minimal console. The 390 lb system is created with a CNC precision-milled, multi-layer MDF and uses a furniture-grade plywood core for audio stability which is supported by an aluminum frame. It receives a state-of-art label because each console is hand-assembled with a final finish touch of real wood veneer and no two consoles will be the same, your piece is one-of-a-kind.
