Travel-friendly clothes steamer that’s ultra-portable and solves the purpose like a pro

Ironing and steaming clothes is one task I procrastinate more often than not. This is even irksome when I’m traveling and my clothes are less than ideal to wear even though they’ve been ironed to perfection when loaded in the suitcase.

This calls for a portable ironing steamer that is not a hassle to carry along during traveling and does the task without much effort. Just like the G2 and G3 by Nesugar, their latest G5 clothes steamer packs the reliable functions of the predecessors while adding new functions that are highly useful.

Designer: Zhinan Huang

It doesn’t require any water addition for a week or so without compromising on the daily ironing needs. This is attributed to the larger panels and three-layer heating bodies for a more efficient vaporization efficiency and greater steam volume. For the most crisp and safe ironing experience, the new model comes with a feature to prevent high-temperature water splashes. The head rotation is meant to replicate the flat and hanging ironing needs, thereby being useful for every kind of situation.

The portable clothes steamer is well-suited for people like me who refrain from ironing clothes at times. That’s because the Nesugar Steamer G5 steamer boasts an ironing method of the ergonomic clothes brush, with the center of gravity set on the handle. This saves effort when used to effectively prevent hand fatigue. If you want the steamer can be placed on the table more stably than most other products which is an added bonus.

According to the designer, “Nesugar Steamer G5 has a simple shape combined with fashionable colors and surface treatment, making it more durable, stable, and more in line with the preferences of young consumers.”

Handheld steam cleaner can disinfect surfaces, eliminate odors, and de-wrinkle clothes with zero chemicals

Move over, Dyson. The SUMJet’s dry steam technology can do everything from sanitizing surfaces to removing wrinkles from clothes… and at $109, it won’t break the bank either.

With the ability to shoot out steam at 320°F, the SUMJet promises to be the ultimate handheld appliance. Using just dry steam (hot air with a much lower percentage of water molecules), the SUMJet provides a 100% chemical-free way to kill microorganisms, eliminate fungi, dust mites, and bedbugs, and sanitize surfaces. The dry steam also ensures that you can use the SUMJet on wooden surfaces without worrying about moisture ruining your furniture, and you can even use it on clothes, ironing them the way a garment steamer would, but much more effectively and without your clothes getting damp.

Designer: SUMJet

Designed to be a handheld appliance quite like a hairdryer or barcode scanner, SUMJet comes with a base that holds 3oz (90ml) of water and a trigger that deploys the dry steam. It takes roughly 2 minutes for the water to get heated to the right temperature once your SUMJet is plugged in, and all you need to then do is point it and press the trigger. The SUMJet works on cushions, pillows, curtains,, mattresses, tables, door handles, carpets, clothes, and even shoes. It deploys Superheated Ultra-fine Mist (that’s what the SUM in SUMJet stands for) at temperatures of 320°F that sanitizes, kills mites and bedbugs, de-wrinkles, and deodorizes without any chemicals. Its gaseous nature allows it to reach places where brushes, solvents, and sprays cant, cleaning those hard-to-reach areas in your house, garden, garage, and even your car. The SUMJet isn’t wireless so you’ll just need to make sure you have an outlet nearby.

SUMJet is dry and moisture-free. It evaporates quickly and will not get your items wet.

The SUMJet’s biggest upsell is its ability to use what’s called ‘dry steam’. While that may sound like marketing jargon for the most part, dry steam is in fact hot air with smaller, fewer water particles suspended in them. This steam has the ability to hold its temperature for longer (unlike wet steam that cools off almost immediately after passing through air), making it perfect for sanitizing surfaces and neutralizing germs that can’t survive hotter temperatures. Unlike with wet steam, SUMJet’s dry steam uses smaller water particles too, which allows it to effectively clean and de-wrinkle thicker clothes like coats, blazers, layered dresses too (something a regular iron or garment steamer wouldn’t be able to do effectively).

SUMJet is ultra-fine, its smaller molecule size enables it to penetrate thicker clothes and fabrics. Dry steam cleaning and ironing become easier and more effective.

Unlike traditional dry cleaners, the mist generated from SUMJet is both finer and hotter. As water is superheated to 320°F (160°C) and sprayed out, the SUM will travel through the item and obliterate everything from mud dirt, oil, sauce stain, mold fungal, dust mite and microorganism through intense heat.

Recorded at 34m/s high speed, the mist doesn’t lose speed until it has exited the item, taking all unwanted dirty stuff with it. It is also able to penetrate leather and bed mattress, which are difficult to clean otherwise.

SUMJet cleans with a jetstream. Its gaseous nature means it can reach places where brushes and liquid spray cannot.

As effective as SUMJet touts its dry steam technology to be, it works out to be sustainable and affordable in the long run too. The appliance works without using any chemical solvents, making it non-toxic for humans/pets as well as the environment, and it uses just water to create dry steam, saving money in the long run too. Moreover, it works as both a sanitizer for rooms and furniture as well as a garment steamer/iron, fulfilling the role of TWO appliances. Each SUMJet ships with a user manual, a refill bottle to fill up your SUMJet, a protective glove so you can hold objects and spray them directly, and even a 1-year warranty on the SUMJet device. The SUMJet ships internationally and will come with a plug-point design and power specifications to match your region.

From blending to steaming, this Dieter Rams-inspired modular kitchen appliance does 6 unique functions!

Kitchen appliances can quickly turn into collections of bulky hardware and tangles of wire if we’re not careful. Blenders, toasters, kettles, and steamers – the wish list is endless and there’s always a new kitchen tool that could be added to our carts, and then when it comes time to organize, forget about it. Modular kitchenware designs come in handy when we feel that we’ve reached our limits…or storage capacities. Finding inspiration in the design language of Dieter RamsBraun collection, ChenKai Zhang created renderings for a modular kitchenware concept that’s as familiar and practical as the iconic Braun appliance.

Zhang recognized several strong points in Braun’s design language, including its timelessness, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and approachability. Zhang hoped to achieve a similar timeless feel for his modular kitchenware concept by attributing like-minded color schemes and construction materials to his product design. The clean coupling of stainless steel accents with a colorful coating of ABS plastic is reminiscent of Braun products and carries with it a sense of familiarity. With this combination of fresh, sleek display and a trusted construction process, Zhang developed his own interpretation of Braun’s approachable and timeless appeal. Zhang essentially universalized Rams’ mechanical design language to offset and charge one base component so that it can then provide power for other attachable kitchen appliances such as juicers, electric kettles, and blenders. Inside the base component, gear buckles, motors, and conductors all work together to either provide heating or power for the two mixing blades to run. The base component consists of a high-speed motor and a heating component to which users can attach and utilize most kitchen appliances. In order to take up less space in the kitchen, Zhang ensured that all of the kitchen modules were the right size to stack onto one another. Zhang also redesigned the spout for modules containing liquid by both flattening it, offering slower pours, and lengthening it for easy pickup.

An integrated interface of two aluminum switches, located on the design’s electric base component, gives users the option to either use a high-speed motor or a heater. Once decided, additional modular components can then be attached to the base component to prepare food items according to the chosen mechanism. In addition to the three modules mentioned, Zhang designed frying pan, steamer, and breakfast pot modules to attach to the base component for other options. The product design’s efficiency is attained through Zhang’s commitment to practicality above all else. This practical approach to design is shown through the modular kitchenware’s conceptualization phase. Moving through three generations of products, Zhang ultimately designed a modular tool for the kitchen that allows users to choose between six different functioning cooking appliances.

Just place this perforated silicone bag into water to boil or steam your veggies!

At Dreamfarm, along with food, there are always a couple of good ideas cooking. I’m talking about the guys that designed the Nutella spatula you’ve surely seen on the internet, or the TAPI, a silicone attachment to your bathroom tap that you pinch to divert water flow upwards, turning it into a water fountain. Now meet the Vebo, another rather brilliant idea from the minds at Dreamfarm. Unlike most metal colanders, the Vebo (a portmanteau of vegetable + boiler) is a silicone perforated bag with handles. Its silicone construction makes it food-grade and safe to immerse in heat. The bag’s flexible silicone design expands to let you put more veggies in or even fold to fit into pots of any size, and it even packs handles that allow you to lift it and carry it around.

The Vebo can be used to boil or even steam veggies with ease. It comes with an elevated base, making steaming vegetables easier, and the handles allow you to grab and hold the boiled or steamed vegetables fresh off the stove. Its perforations allow the water to drip through, even making it easy to rinse vegetables under running water. The Vebo is like a metal colander in the fact that it performs the exact same job… but just infinitely better!

A Fresh Take on the Food Steamer

stoom_steamer_layout

Most of us know that steaming food is a healthier, safer alternative to other cooking methods… it’s just… well… it’s annoying and who has the counter space for a full fledged steaming device?! Designed with these points in mind, the Stoom steamer makes this effective cooking method a cinch.

Inspired by the shape of a thermal pebble, Stoom’s ergonomic, friendly form is as easy on the eyes as it is to handle. Crafted from ceramic and tempered glass, the design can be used in the microwave, oven, or even on the stove. Heat is captured by the stones and steam is naturally circulated around the elevated food items. Easy to use and even easier to clean, you can throw it in the washer when you’re finished and tuck it neatly away when it’s not in use.

Designer: Gaetan Kerckhove

“While being cooked the heat is captured by the stones and gradually emit this heat and keeping the steamed vegetables warm long after serving. The soft wave like textures in the glass and ceramic parts are an ode to the Japanese tradition of purity, like sculpted white sand trails in a garden. Not only being aesthetic these waves in the glass surface create more surface to create more condense. As for the grill like texture keeps the vegetables suspended so hot air and steam can freely move around them,” Kerchkove explained to YD.

A Simply Better Steamer

p_000

No matter the brand of portable clothes steamer, they all seem to fall into the same narrow design language when it comes to aesthetics. The “p°” steamer, however, distinguishes itself from the rest with a less-is-more approach.

The minimalist design ditches the unnecessary, cumbersome handle and is still safe to use thanks to its double-walled insulated body (coincidentally, most use this but still have a handle… a bit redundant, eh?!). Though it looks almost seamless, with just a twist, its water reservoir can be accessed. Users can view the remaining water level through an easy-to-read window sliver. Compact yet powerful and free of unnecessary parts, it’s one you can actually bring along with you without taking up too much space in your suitcase, bag, or purse!

Unexpected Combo Appliance

I love a design that merges the functionalities of completely divided products. One part kettle, one part steamer, the Ketmer saves space by combining the two into one thoughtful kitchen accessory. It’s a must have for anyone who appreciates their steamed veggies as much as their afternoon tea.
