Spectacular Ideas for Children’s Wardrobes

The children’s wardrobe should not only be highly functional but also spark the creativity and imagination of the kids. So, break away from using single colors and experiment with various design themes as well as low-contrast and high-contrast color combinations. Plus, making space for neatly storing clothes, toys, and books can be fun, especially in a themed space where the bedroom decor can reflect your child’s tastes, interests, and personality. Here are some stunning ideas that will give you some food for thought and allow you to go wild and creative with your imagination.

Designer: Elena Likhacheva

1. Cool Tones

The wardrobe is designed with cool blue and white tones to create a restful space. Each wardrobe panel is demarcated with different heights of white arches. Note that the lighter shade of blue makes the space appear much bigger.

Designer: alanbuchana

2. Wardrobe cum Window Seat

The floor-to-ceiling wardrobe encloses a window seat and optimizes vertical space. It houses a window seat that provides extra seating under cabinet storage and brings in natural light. Hues of sage green, mustard yellow, and white are smartly used to demarcate different sections of the wardrobe.

Designer: Carafina

3. Curved Silhouettes

Rounded edges introduce softness, while reflective mirror surfaces on the cabinets add quirkiness to this bedroom. Children are usually fascinated by some animals and see them as a source of inspiration. A fusion of pastel hues creates a fun element. A penguin on the wardrobe shutter and rabbit-shaped ears behind the drawer unit form an interesting design feature. Just see how the combination of opaque and reflective surfaces forms a beautiful contrast of color and materials and creates the illusion of a larger space.

Designer: Shiima Ibrahim

4. Under Cabinet Lighting

Compact yet functional, just see how the triangular form of the soft board has provision for under cabinet lighting and provides adequate task lighting for studying. In addition, the profile of the overhead cabinet moves a step further onto the wardrobe in the form of an inverted triangle in woody tones to smartly complete the look.

Designer: Shushan Vardanyan

5. Cozy Nook

Ideal for cozy seating, this custom-made hut-shaped seating nook adds depth and dimension to an all-white wardrobe. The wooden flooring and seating nook infuse warmth into the space.

Designer: Alpnach Cabinets

6. Rainbow Cheer

Just see how the rainbow colors add cheer and work as a strong design element in the form of vertical stripes on the wardrobe shutters. In addition, a semi-circular rainbow design is integrated into the ceiling to accentuate its look, while colorful corner shelves add life to the surrounding decor.

Designer: Interrio Concepts Studio

7. Ripples

Evocative of water ripples, a circular knob is surrounded by concentric rings, forming a prominent design feature on this blue-hued floor-to-ceiling wardrobe. It extends further to become a floating study unit and makes excellent use of the corner of this room. This design typically does not break the continuity of the wardrobe and makes multi-functional use of the corner space. It contrasts beautifully with the grey and white tone of the room.

8. Branches

The branch shape handles of the wardrobe infuse a forest vibe into the décor of this children’s room. Here the idea has moved a step further into the ceiling light fixture. The white and peach color palette brings a snowy wintery feel into the décor.

Designer: Ekaterina Domracheva

9. Pastel-hued Wardrobe

Every child loves colors! Bring in a good dose of color with a fusion of pink and blue hues of this children’s wardrobe, making it a perfect gender-neutral place. A niche is created within the center of the wardrobe that transforms into a sitting nook and imparts a neat, clutter-free look. The seating nook is surrounded by a curling display of open shelves for books and toy storage that is in perfect flow and rhythm. The open sections at the base of the wardrobe make provision for keeping storage boxes.

Designer: The Art Group by Daria Vasilkova

10. Wave Pattern

Featuring a myriad of shapes and forms, this sweet and sophisticated children’s bedroom includes curved surfaces that integrate the seating nook, built-in shelves, and closed cabinets into a single entity. The combination of peach, white, and grey creates a soothing color palette that infuses a calm and peaceful vibe into the space. The room is a haven of fun and play with plenty of open floor space.

Designers: Ebrahim Gamal, Basant Alaa

11. Space-Inspired Decor

The wardrobe shutters are inspired by rockets, satellites, and UFOs and are a perfect theme for aspiring astronauts, while a lego theme is introduced for the side wardrobes. Different sections of the wardrobe are perfect for tucking away toys, books, accessories, and clothes.

12. Wardrobe cum Study Unit

This well-designed study cum wardrobe in pastel hues is perfect for housing books, clothes, stationary, toys, and other knick-knacks. A fusion of closed and open storage with provision for adequate lighting creates an interesting design feature.

Designer: Mamka

13. Cubes

Cube-shaped open shelves combine with an all-white wardrobe and storage boxes to create an efficient storage solution. The white cabinet shutters are wonderfully contrasted with woody tones and hues of deep grey behind the TV unit.

Designer: Mamka

14. Bright Hues

In this, hues of green, white, and yellow are used to create an interesting layered pattern. Note that laminate finishes are easy to clean and maintain.

Designer: Bonito Designs

15. Color Blocking

Color blocking is a method of using two or more solid colors to create a bold look that stimulates the creative side of children. An exciting contrast of warm yellow and cool blue hues demarcates different wardrobe surfaces and brilliantly introduces color into a neutral-hued space. The low drawers offer practical storage and are easily accessible by the kids.

Designer: Moretti Compact

16. Calm Color Palette

Introduce an unusual combination of multiple colors within a single space. A fusion of earthy colors in muted tones combines with warm lighting, creating a restful space that does not look overwhelming.

17. Geometric Shapes

The arched design on the door and geometric-shaped cut-outs in the wardrobe shutters create a playful look in the children’s bedroom. The best part about a children’s bedroom is that it can easily handle contrasting colors and geometric shapes.

Designer: HAO Design

18. Sophisticated Color Scheme

This sophisticated bedroom incorporates grey and burgundy colors that blend with similar-hued wallpaper and a biophilic theme that brings nature indoors. All the design elements come together to create a well-coordinated color scheme.

Designer: Asia Design

19. Bubbly Pink

This girl’s bedroom has a magical and dreamy aesthetic achieved with a light and airy palette of pinks that prevents the wardrobes from looking bulky. Nature-inspired wallpaper accents the arched wall behind the seating and functions as an interactive backdrop within the bedroom. The décor exhibits a beautiful combination of modern and classical elements.

Designer: Daniel Design Studio

20. A Round Reading Nook

Reading is a wonderful habit, and the child’s room should be designed to encourage it! Give a private space to your little one to escape into a fantasy land while reading a book. Don’t miss the functional bunny rabbit-shaped wardrobe handles that add a fairy-tale vibe to the space.

Designer: Daniel Design Studio

So let your creative juices flow and add a playful flair to the wardrobes of your kid’s bedroom. A well-designed space looks great and is important for your child’s overall development.

This cleverly designed chair encourages you to hang your clothes on it!

Ask a designer what the purpose of a chair is and they’ll throw fancy words about lumbar support and complementing interior spaces. Ask a bachelor what the purpose of a chair is and you’ll get two answers – Sitting, and draping clothes.

The Jules chair by Sarah Willemart explores this unintended yet undeniably popular function of the chair. Designed to function as both a chair and a makeshift wardrobe, the Jules is a functional, aesthetic seating device with a new twist. The backrest of the chair comes with an unusual shape that actively promotes you to hang your clothes, from coats and pants, to even hats and handkerchiefs or scarves (or babushkas – a word I recently learnt). The backrest’s innovative shape comes with a bar on the top for hanging clothes, and a hole running through the cushion for you to hang kerchiefs through. The backrest even has shoulder-like proportions, letting you easily drape a coat on it without worrying about it losing its shape or getting wrinkled. Ingenious, eh? Sign me up for three of them.

How Kickstarter provided the perfect launchpad for this innovative modern-day travel backpack

Small companies innovate, large companies acquire. That’s just a fundamental fact when it comes to any industry with big players. Zuckerberg’s only bit of innovation was Facebook. Every single Facebook company we see today – Instagram, Whatsapp, Oculus, etc, was a strategic acquisition. One could say the same with Google. Apart from search, almost every Google product existed independently before it was absorbed by the company. Small companies think big… Large companies just look at the bigger picture.

Innovation practically runs in the blood of Tropicfeel, a 26-person design company based out of Barcelona. Responsible for creating the world’s most funded shoe in 2018, and the second most funded shoe in 2019, Tropicfeel has more than proved that they’ve got the spirit to innovate, as a small, creative, sustainability-driven, and consumer-focused brand. After shipping more than 500,000 shoes to over 142 countries (that’s 75% of the world) in the past couple of years, Tropicfeel decided to shift their gaze to yet another product in the travel-domain that needed their Midas-touch… the modern travel backpack.

The truth is that the Shell backpack couldn’t possibly come from a larger company. The Kickstarter platform and a brand ethos of being radical, together coupled with Tropicfeel’s aggressively loyal and involved community, proved to be perfect ingredients for Tropicfeel’s next ambitious product. The Shell is a backpack that comes with a rugged weatherproof design, expandable storage space, modular elements, and a one-of-a-kind wardrobe system that allows you to store clothes in your bag like you would in a closet. It behaves like a backpack when you want to store work essentials, a rucksack when you’re outdoors, and a portable wardrobe when you’re traveling on holiday. A dedicated section just for your laptop, charger, and tech peripherals sits right against your back, keeping it protected from others yet accessible to you at all times. The bag’s exterior comes with a 6L kangaroo pouch that gives you an extra fold-out compartment of storage for items you want to keep separate from the rest of your bag (shoes, wet clothes, etc.), while a detachable pouch with Fidlock® fixtures lets you easily attach a separate pouch to your bag.

The Shell comes with 22L of storage space, along with an expanding design that increases internal storage to 40L. A variety of pockets on the inside, as well as the outside, let you segregate and organize your stuff, but nothing matches up to Shell’s wardrobe system – a removable module that turns the inside of your backpack into a makeshift closet. The wardrobe module fits right into your backpack and can be removed and hung on a rod or hook in a room. With multiple sections, the wardrobe system is quite literally a miniature closet for you to store your clothes in. Not only does it make packing (and unpacking) easier, it enables you to live out of your backpack, but with the comfort of having your own organized wardrobe at your fingertips. The wardrobe system allows you to store your clothes without crushing them, and comes with straps on the side that help you compress it to save space, before fitting it into the Shell’s interior compartment. The Shell backpack even offers additional modular bags including a dedicated toiletry bag, a tech pouch, and a padded camera bag with adjustable walls to store your expensive equipment and accessories.

Not only does the Shell balance all these features, it does so while sticking to Tropicfeel’s strict sustainability guidelines. The backpack’s fabric, while rugged, waterproof, and weatherproof, comes made from Bluesign-approved 100% recycled nylon on the outside, and a 64% recycled polyester lining on the inside. The idea of sustainability extends to the rest of the bag’s construction too, which promises to last MUCH longer than any conventional travel bag – the Shell even comes with a lifetime guarantee. Designed for both the unpredictable outdoors as well as the cyclical nature of daily life, the Shell backpack takes wearer comfort into consideration too, with an ergonomic foam back-panel to keep your spine supported, sternum straps to reduce the stress on your shoulders, and frontal adjustable bands that help lower or raise the backpack depending on the weight it’s carrying. The expandable design even gives you the freedom to decide how big or small you want your bag to be based on how much you’re carrying. At 40L, the Shell serves the purpose of a rucksack, perfect for treks, camping trips, and long holidays. Compress it to an intermediate 30L size and you get yourself a balance between storage and the ability to stow your bag in a flight cabin. However, if you just need the backpack to serve your basic needs, the 22L size is ideally compact for your daily commute, serving as the quintessential laptop bag… albeit with more than a few tricks up its sleeve, and a guarantee to be the last bag you’ll ever need to own!

Samsung’s automatic dry cleaning wardrobe removes 99% bacteria and is finally on sale!

What is your most hated chore in quarantine? I think its a tie between doing the dishes and laundry. For me, it is definitely laundry just because it takes longer and is so much more tedious! And while folding my clothes I think about Samsung’s AirDresser – an innovative wardrobe designed to steam, deodorize and sanitize clothes without putting them through a washer-dryer cycle.

Traditional laundry machine cycles can potentially damage clothes (how many of us even know the right settings for our loads?) and ever since the pandemic took over our lives we are doing laundry more often to stay safe – this is bound to wear them out 5x faster than usual. The Samsung AirDresser is here to save the day! Its sleek build is similar to a tall, thin fridge and can seamlessly blend in any room. The AirDresser uses a combination of steaming and heat-pump powered drying, and you won’t even have to plumb it in says Samsung. “That’s because, rather than a water connection like a traditional washer would require, the AirDresser relies on a refillable water tank at the bottom of the cabinet. It means it can be installed pretty much anywhere with a regular 120V outlet,” explains the team.

The wardrobe has space for six hanging garments and includes a set of weighted hangers for helping pull the wrinkles out of pants. The AirDresser is safe to use for suits, woolen clothes, knits, down, fur, leather, and denim making it super versatile and functional. Samsung also mentions that it is good to be used to clean babywear (definitely a lot of cycles there!), toys, and even bedding. I think the bedding bit is so important because traditional washer-dryer ties my bedsheet into such knots and we all know ‘entanglements’ aren’t good (right, Smiths?). It also saves water and makes it easier for the elderly to do their laundry!

The Sanitize Cycle program uses high-temperature steam which can remove 99% of common bacteria and dust mites. It also includes a deodorizing filter that takes care of smells (more important if you live in a humid climate) and a heat-pump drying cycle that avoids shrinking. This way the clothes are cleaned more efficiently and avoids the damage when you put them in the usual machines. If you love your clothes to smell anything other than ‘fresh linen’, you can insert a dryer sheet into the Fresh Finish compartment and you can even leave the door open to use the AirDresser as a dehumidifier for the rest of your closet.

Designed to fit in with your smart lifestyle, you can control the AirDresser with Samsung’s app by connecting it with WiFi. The appliance comes with preprogrammed cycles for items like jackets, t-shirts, school uniforms, and sweaters so no thinking is involved there. The app also supports remote control and notifies you when cleaning cycles are finished. Additionally, there’s also something called Samsung SmartThings integration which means you can store presets, get maintenance, water-change alerts, and see energy status. As an alternative to app-control, you can use the touch-sensitive control panel on the front of the door which has buttons for all cycles – Normal, Quick, Delicates, Sanitize, Drying, and Special. Who needs the Narnia wardrobe when you get this one that does your laundry!

This pill-shaped wardrobe comes with an mirror to give you instant escapism!

When you tell a child to draw a wardrobe, he will always make it in the shape of a rectangle. Even as an adult when I go out shopping for room furniture, I can say about 99% of the closets I see are rectangular. Orior made a simple switch to the shape and it’s got everyone thinking “Wow! I never imagined a pill-shaped wardrobe” which just goes to show how conditioned we are to live within the walls (or doors) or what we know. But Orior decided to shatter the notions of regular expectations by adding a unique twist – a mirror on the other end of the wardrobe! Granted, the purpose of this mirror is also utilitarian, but for my eyes, its an almost fantasy-filled world full of possibilities (it may even hold the entrance to Narnia!)

Orior’s design ideology lies in making timeless furniture with creative shapes and vibrant colors. Each wardrobe has been handcrafted with solid ebonized oak into a pill-shaped mold. The black doors are softened with bullnose edges which adds an elegance quotient to the otherwise steely exterior. The Arctic wardrobe as its called rests on solid Giallo Sienna marble legs that elongate the visual of its shape. To add a touch of luxury – literally – the handles are wrapped in Brass leather which opens up to a mirrored chest and clothing rail. The leather details are also seen in the interior drawers and side panels like the jewelry box.

This wardrobe is a balance between classic materials and modern design – it brings the essence of minimal rich furniture with a vintage soul and Irish craftsmanship. It is a statement yet subtle piece of furniture that is sure to become a staple in your home.

Furniture for the wanderlust

out_of_necessity_1

You know what I love about moving? The new city, the new experiences, new friends… You know what I hate about moving? The moving. Martin Gschwandtl has moved 15 times in his life and he realized what a pain it was to move WITH your belongings. Furniture has never been designed with the intent to make moving easy. They’re either too big and bulky to be moved, or they’re the IKEA kinds, which are easy to pull out of a box and set up… but they aren’t designed to be disassembled and put back into the box. Martin decided to embark on a journey to make furniture that could be as nomadic as their owners, while not compromising on functionality. Out Of Necessity, Martin’s pet project, tackles that very problem with its first product, the nomadic coat rack.

Designed to compress down the wardrobe to its bare essentials, the coat-rack comes flat-packed, but the best part is that once assembled, it can be flat-packed again multiple times. Unlike IKEA’s DIY products that involve drilling screws into wood, making things permanent, Out Of Necessity uses metal threads and inserts, allowing screws to be removed in the event of disassembly without affecting the product’s lifespan. The shelf itself becomes the packaging unit when flipped over, allowing you to pack the columns and other parts into the shelf’s cavity.

Out Of Necessity’s coat rack also embodies a minimal aesthetic that doesn’t necessarily indicate a nomadic lifestyle, but allows you to embrace minimalism with ease, letting you travel light every time you need to shift base. What’s next on the Out Of Necessity’s agenda? A minimal, easy-to-move table, and hopefully even a bed!
