Minimal Metallic Bar Stool Celebrates The Rawness Of Aluminum & A Simple Construction System

Switching out bulky chairs in my home for compact convenient little stools has become my newfound love. Stools deserve to be given way more credit than they get, cause they pack a punch in their small form. Stools are often overlooked, maybe because they occupy minimum space, and aren’t overbearing. But these traits are what make stools so great in my opinion! I mean, they’re compact, and a great space-saving furniture option for our modern homes. They are also super portable. Bar stools are also pretty great, not just for sitting on the bar, but they can be placed in different sections of your home, where they can function as convenient seating solutions while also adding some spunk to your space. And a great bar stool you may want to look at is the Foundation bar stool by Bestcase.

Designer: Bestcase

Designed by the American brand Bestcase, the Foundation bar stool is a beautiful celebration of the rawness of aluminum, and the simple manufacturing techniques used to build it. It was designed by Bestcase co-founder Charles Constantine and was unveiled in 2022 as a part of a collection that was crafted from aluminum sheet material.  The minimal and sturdy stool features scaled-up sheets that are bent via a technique that is traditionally utilized to add some structure and solidity to thinner materials. This displays the structural as well as decorative qualities of aluminum, and how it can be durable and strong, while also retaining some aesthetic value.

The Foundation bar stools are equipped with mechanical connections, and a raw satin waxed aluminum finish or a powder-coated color. Bestcases describes the Foundation bar stool as “an exercise in simplicity”, and it quite beautifully celebrates the exceptional material properties of aluminum. The Foundation stool is customizable in depth, width, and height, and its sturdy structure allows seat backs and upholstery to be added to the frame.

The Foundation bar stool showcases a simple construction system, and the rawness and strength of aluminum. It has no additional frills or tassles, and only relies on the structural integrity and choice of the material to elevate the design and allow it to truly shine through.

This playful bar stool uses rock climbing hand grips as foot rests to meet your feet wherever they fall!

12 Steps is a cushioned chair design that features a system of footrests in the style of hand and foot grips on a climbing rock wall.

It’s no secret that stools are usually more functional than they are comfortable. With a hard seat rest, stools aren’t built for long sitting periods, and depending on your height, your feet are either swinging midair or only just touching the floor below.

Built as a whimsical alternative to the traditional stool, 12 Steps is a new cushioned stool from HaYoung Yoo that comes with built-in footrests designed like rock wall climbing steps so that people of varying heights will have a place where they can prop their feet.

HaYoung Yoo’s 12 Steps stool is built on a six-sided wooden pillar that’s punctuated with climbing holds more commonly found on rock walls. The climbing holds that fill up the stool’s wooden pillar are placed so that users can use them as footrests.

The stools also feature a rotating seat designed similarly to traditional bar stools so that the positioning of the footrests can meet users where their legs fall. The footrests can also function as hand grips for when you might want to move 12 Steps around the room. Ideal for a kid’s classroom or whimsical art studio, 12 Steps was built for comfort, functionality, and playfulness.

Designing innovative chair designs is a tough ask–they’ve been around for as long as any of us can remember. Innovation in new chairs might come through with their multifunctionality, adaptability, or simple comfort. 12 Steps reaches for all three, with an adaptable footrest system, rotating seat rest, and cushioned top.

One chair, two chair, double-sided blue chair…

The unique appeal of the Turning Chair by Insu Kim is that it’s a comfortable lounger as well as a bar-stool. This creative take on seating relies on a form that can be flipped 90° to completely change its function! When in orientation A, the Turning Chair is a comfortable low-lying lounger with a reclining backrest, perfect for your living room… but thanks to its angular rear legs, the chair can be flipped backwards to turn it into a high-seated bar-stool that fits rather suitably in your kitchen. Plus, get this… the chair’s form is stackable too! What a space-saving shape-shifting seater!

The Turning Chair is a winner of the K-Design Award for the year 2019.

Safari-inspired Seating

As its name suggests, the Giraffe stool applies similar geometries of the long-necked animal to a modern seating solution! Thermoformed from plastic, the monocoque structure is at once smooth and sturdy, supported by 3 legs. From a profile view, subtle biomimicry is apparent with the abstract silhouette of the familiar famed animal!

The Modern Space Age Stool

With it’s aerodynamic shape, winged seat and functional rivet accents, the C5 bar stool subtly reminds of aviation, but it also draws inspiration from the iconic Googie architecture of the 1950s. With its exaggerated geometries and spacey shapes, its a quirky addition to industrial-style interiors. Presented in a stark white and natural wood contrast, it’s also sophisticated enough to compliment kitchen islands or the household bar.
