This sleek folding e-bike lets you ride up to 200km on a single charge

Ever since the pandemic (or maybe even before that), people are more conscious now about the way they travel and commute and are looking for more sustainable ways to move around. We’re seeing more people going to school or work with bicycles, electric bikes, e-scooters, and other electric vehicles. Sometimes though, if you’re going a bit far, you’ll have to stop and recharge some of these electric vehicles. So the ideal situation would be to have something that’s earth-friendly, that has good battery life, and is portable.

Previously, Petre Georgescu was able to develop the lightest foldable bicycle available right now. This time around, he came up with an electric bike that can reach the farthest on a single charge. The Colibri M22 is a foldable electric moped that can get you as far as 200km without having to recharge. Once you’ve finished your commute, you can fold it and store it somewhere like under stairways or in a storage area because it has compact mechanisms that allows it to be folded in a smaller manner.

The Colibri M22 weighs in at just 30 kilograms if you remove the batteries. But of course you need to put it in to be able to travel up to 200km on a full charge. You’ll be able to ride at a maximum speed of 50 km/hour. If you put it on its off-road mode, you can ride it at 90 kph when you’re traveling through forests and mountains. The electric moped can be driven legally on roads with a category B license. The three modular batteries can be charged individually as well.

In terms of design, it looks pretty much a regular, small motorbike, except you have these three huge batteries in a container in front of you. But of course that’s a small price to pay to have an e-vehicle that can get you farther than the regular e-bikes that are currently in the market. It’s now available for pre-sale in the US and Europe through crowdfunding on their website with prices starting at $2,799.

This carbon fiber rollator’s handle will hold your hand

We love universal designs especially when they provide the freedom to move. Mobility is an especially important aspect to our differently-abled demographic that relies on inclusive design, so having a product that works for everyone including them is a true winner. That is why there is no surprise that the Carbon Ultralight rollator was featured on the Red Dot Design Awards! A rollator is basically a rolling walker with a seat that makes it easy to move without having to lift it up.

The name Carbon Ultralight is due to its biggest differentiating factor – the rollator is the lightest (and the first of its kind) in the world because of its complete carbon fiber frame. It only weighs 10.5 lbs (4.8 kgs) so it really is light light but the designers have also added some aircraft-grade aluminum to give it stability while moving and braking. The ergonomic build and shape have been inspired by organic bodies of fast animals (think dolphins, sharks, and falcons!) as well as the streamlined designs of sports cars from the automotive industry. One of the standout little details that make it a ‘clean’ design is that the brake cables are hidden inside the frame.

If you are currently social distancing, you will love the thought behind the shape of the rollator’s handles – the form is designed to give you a feeling of holding onto someone’s hand. This can provide a sense of security to the senior users as well as the differently-abled. Certain shapes and forms are known to provide a psychological comfort that can make the user confident about independently using the product. The handles are purposely turned into the opposite direction of the rollator to provide a better posture to the rider and making maneuvering easy. Its unique handles make riding effortless because you’ll be using your palms instead of your fingers to dictate the rollator’s direction. It also comes with detachable accessories like a backrest and organizer.

Another refreshing change was the upgrade to the height adjustment function – the designers replaced the traditional knob with a button that adjusts the height with 30 mm increments. It is a lot easier to keep track of the height this way if multiple people are sharing the rollator. Apart from being as light as a rollator could be if it was a feather, it is also super compact and when folded down it is only 255 mm wide. This foldable e-bike makes clean commuting look great for the conscious consumer!

As we move towards the future of clean commuting, we must keep in mind that not all places will have a robust public transport system and if it is a suburb then chances are that things may not be at a walkable distance always. In realistic situations like this electric bikes are the most viable option – they are quick to maneuver on busy streets and continue to keep your carbon footprint at a minimum. To make them even more functional, designer Kaiser Chang has created a foldable e-bike called Somerset that is truly ideal for any urban or suburban dweller.

Somerset gets its name from ‘tumbling’ because it tumbles and collapses into a compact form. The mainframe of the e-bike uses an oval-shaped tube as a slide rail, this makes the front fork slide down and combines the two wheels and to transform into a handcart. Somerset’s circular steel structure and semi-arc frames give it a sleek, slim visual aesthetic. The flow lines make the e-bike look modern and minimal even when its folded. Now, this is what I call a true problem-solving design!
