Charming hand warmer gives a very literal interpretation of a hotdog

The holidays might be over but some regions are still experiencing the bitter bite of winter or cold weather. Over the centuries, we humans have developed methods to keep ourselves warm, from layering clothing to electronic devices that generate heat. Nowadays, we even have both in the form of wearable technologies that keep our bodies warm and toasty. Sometimes, however, the best solution is one that not only actually solves the problem but also sparks joy. That’s the kind of warmth that this concept device delivers both without and within, warming our hands and our hearts by calling to mind man’s stereotypical best friend.

There are a few things in life that make us smile and feel all warm and fuzzy, things such as hot drinks, photos and memorabilia, or our beloved furry companions. Dogs aren’t just naturally warm thanks to their body heat, their companionship and sometimes even their silly antics surface feelings of happiness that can heat us up inside and out. If only we could recreate that experience anytime and anywhere we feel cold.

The Hotdog Hand Warmer is indeed designed to address that desire. Admittedly, it’s not easy to see the resemblance immediately, but once you see the cute dog’s face, you can never unsee it ever again. It doesn’t look like any of those breeds that instantly elicit oohs and aahs, but the simple, almost cartoony face has a more universal appeal. Plus, it’s something that people of all ages will actually be able to appreciate, especially kids who have little to no idea about different breeds.

Of course, it isn’t just a toy to look at, and the literal “hot dog” functions as an easy-to-use hand warmer. It can be charged via USB from a power bank or even a smartphone, making it easily portable and usable anywhere. There’s a simple slider to switch between off and two heat settings to suit your needs and comfort levels. One might wonder why the dog’s ear or nose doesn’t function as buttons for the same purpose, but that’s probably for safety reasons since you’re likely to accidentally press on them when holding the warmer tight.

This Hotdog Hand Warmer concept design isn’t exactly revolutionary, but it’s a fine example of how one can easily humanize even the most mundane or utilitarian of products. Making it resemble something most humans are universally fond of helps drive home the device’s purpose, delivering warmth that isn’t only palpable but also emotional.

This conceptual hand warmer comes with aesthetics designed to warm your soul

This hand warmer makes you feel the inner warmth even when you just look at it. That’s because its build and aesthetic were inspired by the feeling you get when you are all wrapped up in a cozy blanket on a cold winter day. The designers purposely made these hand warmers to give a physical form to that emotion. Second White created this concept as a part of its ‘Essentials Only’ project and we couldn’t agree more – once you know life in winter with a hand warmer, there is no going back!

Every curve and color of the device embodies the function of the hand warmer, especially the soft elliptical shape which fits naturally in your palms. It is perfectly sized for you to fit it in your coat pockets – a portable essential to carry during the winters especially if you have a commute! The hand warmer can be easily charged with a USB cord even with a phone. To ease your mind, it also comes with a backup battery and a handy light for those winter evenings when the sun sets early. Now we wait for this concept to come to life and be a ray of sunshine for those snowy days.

A desktop hand-warmer that alleviates frozen-finger syndrome

If you’ve ever tried to text in the cold, you know that your fingers tend to lock because of the low temperatures… so imagine trying to type on a keyboard in the cold. Whether you’re working or gaming, the Breez desktop hand-warmer keeps your fingers toasty as you clack away at the keys of your USB or wireless keyboard. The horizontal radiator design uniformly warms your hands as you type, covering the entire keyboard so there’s never a cold-zone near the numpad.

Breez’s design is relatively simple in that it comes with a colorful body, almost reminiscent of lofree’s keyboard, and vents on the back and front. A simple button lets you toggle the warmer on and off, giving you the cozy warmth your fingers need in a heavily air-conditioned or a naturally cold environment.

Cozy fireplace in your pocket!

I’ve figured out that I have a very strange relationship with the winter. I like it, but I don’t like the cold. I like the idea of warming up in the winter, and now that I think about it, I ask myself… do I really like the “winter”?

Weird moment of philosophy aside, I really do hate being cold and miserable. My nose turns redder than Rudolph, and my fingers grow so icy cold, they hurt. No matter how thick gloves can get, they’ll never be as effective as keeping fingers toasty warm as the Zippo Hand Warmer. Coming from a company brought to fame for their lighters, the Zippo Hand Warmer is a catalytic heater that fits in your pocket. Available in small and large sizes, the Hand Warmer can power continuously for 6 or 12 hours depending on the size you buy. When powered, it literally gives off heat comparable to holding your hands next to a fireplace… which is much more effective than a glove that just retains body heat.

The Zippo Hand Warmer basically gives out heat without a visible flame. It does this by burning lighter fluid through a proprietary carbon felt filter (much like steel wool). What you get as a result is heat without a fire. Simply pop the cap and the burner unit off and pour a desired amount of lighter fluid into the hand warmer (a full tank should give you 12 hours). Then pop the burner unit on and hold it close to a naked flame. Within seconds, the burner will begin emanating heat, after which you can just place the perforated cap back on and stash the Hand Warmer in your pocket (and dig your hands into it every few minutes for warmth), merrily going about your day while everybody else is vigorously rubbing their palms together like cavemen. (The Hand Warmer goes out on its own once the fuel runs out.)

Embercase Protects Your iPhone, Keeps Your Hands Warm and Toasty

Embercase iPhone case

Anyone who has tried to dial or type with freezing fingers knows that the task is futile, or extremely time-consuming at best. You can get gloves with capacitive patches on the fingers so you can still use your phone when you’ve got them on, or you can get the Embercase and do away with the gloves.

The Embercase is designed to keep your iPhone safe from the elements while doubling as a hand warmer to keep your hands warm and toasty. It connects to your mobile device via Bluetooth so you can control its temperature via a companion app. You don’t have to worry about stuff overheating, as the case is made from titanium with a layer of Aerogel ceramic fiber to insulate your iPhone from the heat.

The Kickstarter campaign for the Embercase was canceled a couple of weeks ago, but Exumme should be relaunching their crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo soon.
