This Tea Machine Makes The Classic Indian Chai Easier To Prepare

Chai, a beloved staple in Indian households, holds a special place in the hearts of many. It’s more than just a beverage; it’s a symbol of hospitality, warmth, and tradition. A group of three Indian friends living in London, who happened to be accounting and finance experts, recognized the significance of chai in their lives and sought to create a product that would make the preparation of this beloved drink easier and more convenient for working professionals. The result is the Dostea Tea Machine, a groundbreaking innovation that combines technology with tradition to deliver an authentic and hassle-free chai experience. Why not have tea machines just like those for coffee?

Designers: Arun KumarMVyasateja RaoAnil Ramesh (Analogy Design)

Crafting a traditional chai can be a laborious endeavor, often involving the use of various utensils and resulting in a messy process. The Dostea Tea Machine, designed with the UK market in mind, aims to address these challenges. With a simple press of a button, it provides a fresh, home-brewed cup of chai, eliminating the usual hassle and mess associated with the traditional method.

Dostea’s collaboration with Analogy was driven by a shared goal: to capture the authentic experience of homemade chai, including its unique taste, aroma, flavor, and vibrant color. To achieve this, they embarked on an extensive exploration process, conducting multiple rounds of experimentation to uncover the ideal design.

Taking inspiration from both UK and Indian design excellence in industrial design, the team conceptualized a unique body and mechanism for the tea machine. The goal was to craft a visually appealing and functionally efficient device that not only brewed exceptional chai but also provided a delightful aesthetic experience for users.

The Dostea Tea Machine features patent-worthy engineering, blending British and Indian design elements seamlessly. Its sleek curves, elegant lines, and carefully selected materials evoke sophistication and cultural fusion. The machine’s form was meticulously crafted to emulate the warmth of a sunrise, infusing every cup of tea with a touch of magic and the promise of a new day.

The Dostea Tea Machine has reached its prototype stage, undergoing intensive testing to ensure ideal brewing conditions for perfect flavor extraction. Externally, it boasts a user-friendly design, sleek appearance, and strategically placed controls for ease of use. The machine also includes thoughtful accessories such as a removable kettle and milk frother to enhance the homemade chai experience. This prototype embodies the careful balance of art and science in chai brewing, demonstrating the commitment of the Dostea and Analogy teams to delivering an unmatched chai experience worldwide.

The Dostea Tea Machine prioritizes a simple and convenient user experience. From the product’s shape and form to the interface design, it aims to facilitate the creation of that perfect cup of chai, customized to each user’s liking. The intuitive interface empowers users to enjoy their chai just the way they prefer, without the fuss and mess associated with traditional methods.

The Dostea Tea Machine is more than just a kitchen appliance; it’s a testament to the fusion of tradition and technology and an embodiment of the love for chai that transcends borders. For busy professionals who cherish a quick cup of authentic chai, this innovative product is set to revolutionize their daily routines, offering an authentic chai experience without the usual hassles. With its elegant design and engineering, the Dostea Tea Machine ensures that the essence and emotion of a handmade cup of chai remain intact while making chai preparation as simple as the press of a button.

This minimalist coffee maker ditches all of the frills for a single-button operation

Muuto is a minimalist coffee maker made from ceramic steel that operates with the click of a single button.

For all that coffee provides to get us through hectic workdays and our busy lives, sometimes all we need is a no-frills coffeemaker that even our sleepy brains can operate. Plus, when all the extra mechanics and crowded control panels are out of the equation, minimalist coffee makers just look better in modern homes.

Designer: PDF Haus

When all we want is a cup of coffee, the frills can take the backseat. The Muuto Coffee Maker from PDF Haus is a minimalist coffee maker that ditches all the bells and whistles for a clean, elemental build.

Intuitive by design, the Muuto Coffee Maker is like the electric kettle’s older, edgier cousin. The only button on the entire operation is an easy-click power key located on Muuto’s main, rounded chamber. A small LED light can be found just above the main power switch and indicates three different signals to users: on, off, and fill.

When the light glows white, that means that Muuto is powered on and ready to brew. When the LED turns red, then the water basin needs to be refilled before brewing can begin. When the LED light doesn’t reveal any color, then users can rest assured their coffee maker is powered off.

Equipped with a removable filter basin and compartment, users will find a familiar setup underneath the chamber’s lid. Drawing water from a detachable water reservoir, a built-in water dripper pours water over the filter and coffee grounds for brewing.

By the looks of it, Muuto is built from ceramic steel for a truly elemental look, supplying the steel with a textured feel. From top to bottom, Muuto is a no-frills coffee maker that’s ideal for any modern kitchen.

PDF Haus conceptualized Muuto in an array of soft colors, ranging from sage green to a taxi yellow.

The ceramic steel body frames the glass hardware for a warm touch.

Muuto is a no-frills coffee maker that can be used intuitively.

The removable water basin can be taken out and removed after use.

The LED light signals to users when Muuto needs more water.

Sleek coffee makers to help you prepare the perfect cup of coffee every time

I love coffee, I need it to start my day, or else I simply refuse to start my day! It’s the boost of energy, dose of motivation, and rush of serotonin that I need every morning. And, I’m pretty sure that’s the case for most of us. However, with the pandemic caging us to our homes, we’ve been unable to grab some coffee from our preferred baristas and coffee shops! Hence, learning to brew my own coffee is something I’ve had to learn, and it’s really not so bad. There is a different satisfaction and pleasure in sipping caffeine that you know is the result of your own hard work, something precariously prepared with your own personal touch to it. A unique, innovative, and interactive coffee machine is all you need, and ninety-five percent of the battle is won (the other five percent is you setting aside your laziness and actually operating the machine)! From a sleek coffee grinder and brewer designed to replace your Keurig to a Jenga-inspired modular coffee maker – this collection of super cool and easy-to-use coffee machines will start you off on your coffee brewing journey. Cheers!

1. The Gevi

A 2021 winner of the Red Dot Design Award, the Gevi rubbishes the notion that a coffee machine needs to look like a large, bulky, boxy appliance. The 2-in-1 coffee grinder and brewer are visually separated into their two parts. The appliance comes with a base platform that has its own dedicated weighing scale to help you weigh the beans before you add them to the grinder. The grinder comes with a bean hopper on the top to feed the beans in, while commercial-level 60mm flat steel burrs help create a consistent grind of your beans (while anti-static measures help prevent particles from sticking/clumping). The dose consistency from beans to powder of the appliance is around 0.2g.

2. X&Y

Introducing their take on the brewing system, Kurz Kurz Design unveiled their X & Y pour-over set, featuring a stainless steel gooseneck kettle and brewer coated in charcoal black and cobalt blue. X&Y comes in both charcoal black and cobalt blue. Developed in stainless steel, the gooseneck kettle and filter stand come complete with added thermal insulation from a banded construction. On top of that, a strip of cobalt blue-dyed leather comes with the package specifically designed to wrap around the gooseneck kettle’s handle, doubly ensuring a safe pour.

3. The Brewster DCM5000

Designed especially for those of us who work from home, the Brewster DCM5000 is compact and highly technical to limit the mess of making coffee and make it easier to use. The team of India-based designers conceptualized the Brewster DCM5000 as a coffee maker that could be placed on a desk without taking up too much space. Downsized to fit in any workspace, the Brewster DCM5000’s bulkiest part is the 250ml water tank.

4. The Oblic Dropper

Reinterpreting the classic coffee dripper through a portable, compact lens, industrial designer JenFu Yang conceptualized the Oblic Dropper, a handheld pour-over device ideal for bringing coffee with you on the go. Following a similar build to conventional immersion coffee drippers, the Oblic Dropper allows users to brew pour-over sin record time across multiple coffee mugs. Equipped with an integrated stopper, transferring Oblic Dropper from one cup to the next can be a clean, seamless transition without any spillage.

5. The Rapha + Rocket R58 Espresso Machine

The Rapha + Rocket R58 Espresso Machine features two PID-controlled boilers that ensure optimal extraction of any type of coffee. It boasts a touchscreen display with a variety of functions to help you prepare the perfect cup of coffee! A twin stainless steel portafilter and a wooden handle seal the deal on this intriguing coffee maker. A no-burn steam and water wand prevent you from burning yourself.

6. The Qterra Craft

As portable as an ordinary Starbucks travel mug, the Qterra Craft is designed to give you coffee so fresh you’ll feel like it was brewed right inside it… and you’d be right! The Qterra Craft is a pretty clever little device, giving you the freshest coffee or tea—even while you’re traveling—by simply brewing it on the spot. The mug comes with a lid that holds tea leaves or coffee grounds in a telescopic Q-Brew Basket that extends downwards into the vessel when the lid is twisted. Fill the vessel with piping hot water and twist the lid just minutes before you actually want your beverage. Then twist the lid when you’re done and the used leaves or grounds ascend back into the lid, secured with an air-tight seal.

7. Cenga

Inspired by the build of Jenga towers, Cenga is a modular, handmade coffee set with a grinder, dripper, and canister included in a single unit. Piled together like a Jenga tower, Cenga is a handmade modular coffee set conceptualized by a team of designers to bring home everything you’d find in a cafe. Starting from the top of Cenga, a grinder for coffee beans funnels the grounds into a dripper before heating up some water and dripping that into a canister to serve.

8. Cosie

Cosie is a siphon coffee maker designed to bring the emotional experience of watching your coffee brew at a cafe into the comfort of your own kitchen. Since Cosie is a siphon machine, the coffee inside the canisters is extracted through steam pressure generated by boiling water, a process that users can watch while brewing their own coffee. The integrated siphon also makes the general upkeep and management of Cosie much easier to keep up with. After spooning in their desired amount of coffee grinds into the machine’s top compartment, users need only fill the main cartridge with water and turn its handle clockwise to kickstart the brewing process.

9. Niche Zero

Designed by UK-based brand Niche Coffee, Niche Zero is a specially designed single-dose grinder that refreshes you with not just a cup of coffee, but also with its eye-catching design. The grinder, which comes in either white or black, features a gently curved metal body, retro-style switches, and wooden accents and stubby legs that make it look warm and approachable.

10. Minimal

Drip Coffee Maker Red Dot Design Award

Encased in a vinyl travel case, Minimal is made up of a glass dripper and cup, and a filter stand stocked with reusable cloth filters. Both the glass dripper and cup are made from borosilicate glass to ensure the same quality heat resistance found in glassware like Pyrex and lab flasks. Minimal also comes with a wooden lid that doubles as a coaster so when you’re camping, you’ll always have a place to set your cup.

This sleek coffee grinder and brewer gives you coffee so fresh, you’ll want to dump your Keurig

In about the same number of steps it takes you to make coffee from a Nespresso or Keurig, the Gevi gives you a cup of coffee that’s brewed directly from freshly-ground beans… and it all lies in the appliance’s sleek, 2-in-1 design.

At first glance, the Gevi doesn’t look like your conventional 2-in-1 coffee maker. Those are much bulkier, and look industrial, while Gevi has a sleek, slim appearance to it. On the inside, however, the Gevi can both grind as well as brew your coffee beans… and it can weigh the beans out beforehand too, resulting in a well-calibrated brew that’s just right.

A 2021 winner of the Red Dot Design Award, the Gevi rubbishes the notion that a coffee machine needs to look like a large, bulky, boxy appliance. With its cylindrical design that branches out into the cantilevered coffee-grinder and brewer, the Gevi capitalizes on visual drama, looking almost sculptural, like a ballerina on a single leg. While that description may be a little too artistic for what’s essentially a coffee machine, it drives home a point… that even a mundane kitchen appliance can be designed to look beautiful.

The 2-in-1 coffee grinder and brewer are visually separated into their two parts. The appliance comes with a base-platform that has its own dedicated weighing scale to help you weigh the beans before you add them to the grinder.

You can choose from a whopping 51 different grind settings, ranging from a coarse blend for a french-press to a very fine blend for an espresso machine. The Gevi comes with its own pour-over brewer, for which an intermediate grind-setting works best.

After you’ve weighed and ground the beans, the Gevi’s own pour-over lets you brew them too. A touchscreen interface on the top of the machine lets you choose your bean-to-water ratio, water temperature, and water-quantity, and 3 rotating water spouts mimic the authentic pour-over technique, gently dripping water in a slow, circular motion over the coffee beans resting in the Gevi’s borosilicate Chemex-style pour-over jug. That isn’t just all, the appliance comes with an entire host of brew settings, ranging from an Automatic to a Barista mode, with even the ability to manually control your ‘recipe’ and save it to access it later on. Gevi is currently seeking certification from the ECBC (European Coffee Brewing Centre) to advance its own Barista mode even further… although it gives you complete flexibility to experiment with brewing techniques and ratios, so you can easily discover new flavors as you experiment with different blends to arrive at your favorite cup.

Once you’ve got your recipes set and you’ve picked your favorite blend of coffee beans, the Gevi simplifies the entire grinding and brewing process down to merely pushing a couple of buttons on the touchscreen while the appliance does the rest. The weighing and grinding become instinctive, and you can pre-grind your coffee beans beforehand if you’re lazy.

The machine’s internal 1000W heater heats an entire container of water in mere minutes, and the pour-over spouts mimic the pouring action of a barista, giving you a balanced cup of coffee. Every 11 gallons, the Gevi gives you a prompt to run the descaling mode to remove the hard-water deposits from its water-tank as a maintenance procedure, so that your machine runs flawlessly and your coffee tastes remarkable. As far as the word remarkable goes, the Gevi’s slim, cylindrical design comes in two colors to choose from – a classic silver and a copper blue.

This super-compact + full-size pour-over brewer made from single piece of aluminum is indestructible!

Being a coffee enthusiast myself, I don’t think there’s much left to explore in the pour-over coffee brewing style. Nothing considerable in a brewer’s design would change how the coffee actually tastes. That said, there is of course a lot of innovation possible when it comes to the choice of material, especially because fashion-forward, throw-away plastic brewers have been the most cost-effective choice around the world. Orea coffee dripper; one of the world’s smallest coffee brewers sets out to make that possible and also tries to tinker with the flat-base design to make it a tad faster and clog-free.

This pour-over brewer with an innovative drainage ring in the base that results in a fast flow rate is slightly different from the brewers with smaller holes that lead to extended brew time and often clog up. The Orea is an extremely compact full-size pour-over brewer that you can throw away in the bag without having to worry about breaking it. The robust, lightweight, and super compact Orea is made from 100-percent aluminum and can go with you on any adventure and at the same time work effectively in your kitchen.

Made in the UK, Orea means “from the mountains” – a fitting name for this teeny weeny coffee brewer that is made for the outdoorsy. It weighs only 60g and is designed to fit in a standard cup, camping pot, or unnoticeably in your bag. According to the designers, it is ideal for camping, backpacking, and also for everyday use in the kitchen. What really makes the Orea stand out in the crowd is not so much its cute little design, but the construction and material use. The Orea is milled out of one solid block of aerospace-grade aluminum using a CNC machine.

Orea is made to work with Kalita Wave 155 filters, which can filter finely ground beans and strain a perfect cup of Joe when residing within this petite brewer. Owing to its size, the brewer can only brew one cup (350ml) of coffee at a time. It is priced slightly high at US $69.99 but the Orea justifies its cost with its unique strength and guarantee to last a lifetime, which not only adds to an adventurer’s confidence in his brewer but also means lesser waste ends up in the landfills!

The Bold Looking Cold-brewer

There’s something innately calming and beautiful about the ATMOS. Not only does it make the brewing process feel easy, it makes the brewing process LOOK easy too. The fact that the entire product is just two bottles and an intermediary filter unit in an hourglass format feels easy on the eyes, and it’s fun to watch the water literally traverse from one bottle, through the coffee grounds, and into the other, tinted with the golden brown color we’ve known to love!

The ATMOS takes the components required in the pour over brewing process and simplifies them separately and as a whole too. The entire apparatus comes with three bottles (only two are needed for brewing) and a threaded interconnecting module made of stainless steel. The procedure of brewing is literally narrowed down to three steps… Fill, Tamp, and Flip. Each bottle is crafted out of borosilicate glass, with a capacity to store up to 5 espresso shots, and comes with a 28mm threaded neck, although the thread pattern is slightly different from the kind used in regular PET bottles. However, this means the bottles can be cleaned with any regular household bottle cleaner. The intermediary stainless steel (316 marine grade) component comes in two parts that fit together to form the core of ATMOS’s brewing unit, and separate for easy cleaning.

What’s beautiful about the ATMOS is its visual and functional simplicity. It separates the three steps into three zones, letting you fill water in one bottle, pack (tamp) your coffee grounds in the intermediary unit, and flip the apparatus to allow the brew to collect in the empty bottle below. You can adjust the intensity of the brew by changing the ratio of the coffee grounds to the water, while the resulting brew tastes markedly better than most immersion brewers, not just because of the cold brew process, but also because each water drop is made to pass through the coffee, gathering flavor along the way. The ATMOS is also much faster than traditional cold-brew coffee makers and the fact that its shape resembles an hourglass feels like a beautiful bit of visual irony, but at the same time adds a hypnotic beauty to the brewing process while also inspiring patience as you, mesmerised, watch the water travel from one receptacle to another, transforming in color, taste, and aroma along the way.

The ATMOS comes with three borosilicate bottles (with caps), along with the main Stainless Steel interconnecting body. The kit even packs a cleaning brush and a food-safe descaler sachet. Designed to look and feel familiar, the ATMOS has a transparency and an aesthetic that sits well on most tables and kitchen counters. Plus, with the ability to store your brew in two of the three bottles and use the brew for anything from the ever-popular espresso to the humble cappuccino, to even an odd espresso martini, the ATMOS makes cold-brewing an art that’s for every type of coffee lover. With the way the ATMOS looks, you won’t be addicted to just the caffeine, you’ll be addicted to the brewing process too!

Tea Tailored to You

Brewing at the right temperature and for the right amount of time is crucial for making a proper cup of tea. Too hot and it will taint the antioxidants, too long and it will extract unwanted flavors. TEAMOSA marries modern science and traditional tea-making so you get the perfect tea-making experience each time.

It uses a specialized ultrasonic extraction method to enhance aroma and taste. You can begin brewing in seconds with quick and easy TEAMOSA pods. Simply place them in the device and it will scan the pod and brew it according to expert recommendations! However, you’re not just restricted to the pods. You can also place your own tea leaves directly in TEAMOSA and adjust your brewing preferences according to your taste directly on the app.

A Modern Twist on Turkish Coffee

sedatozer_00

Sedat Ozer’s Kaffa combines trend and tradition in a beautiful, minimalist take on the Turkish coffee pot. Modeled after the conical shape of the time-tested original, the design allows users to enjoy the Turkish method of coffee brewing from anywhere, without the need for fire. Purist Coffee Brewing

i_00

The IIKONE is designed to be a piece of industrial art on your kitchen counter top! This minimalist brewer design brings a purist approach to pour-over brewing with a bold aesthetic, now in a timeless matte black finish.

The most revolutionary feature of its design is the fully uncovered cone filter. It uses a proprietary patented solution to hold the filter in place thanks to a specially shaped ring. Thanks to it there are no obstacles nor interruptions to the flow. The working section of the filter doesn’t get into contact with anything other than the air, so the brewing process is as pure as it can be. The result is a clearer, more developed flavor and much fewer undissolved particles in the cup.

An Entirely New Coffee Experience

kallpa_00

As convenient as they are, pod-style coffee makers mean that coffee connoisseurs sacrifice a certain level of control over their brew. Until now! The Kallpa system features smart capsules that, when inserted into the machine, give the user nutritional information, preparation recommendations, and capsule combinations for a completely customized cup of coffee.

The capsules include printed QR codes in the laminate, which are manually inserted into the feed tray with a reader that recognizes the QR code and through the touch screen connected to a wifi network it allows the user to access the contents of the QR code. Once the capsule is recognized, the user can access the controls of preparation, filling level or water temperature, which once defined only require the user to press the “start” button to start enjoying coffee while reviewing the QR code content on the touch screen.

Kallpa also allows coffee makers to generate feedback through capsules and can identify popularity by type of coffee and consumer. It’s an entirely new coffee experience!
