This minimal and modular cat tree perfectly meets the needs of your pet, your home and you!

I own two fluffy and cozy Persian cats, and honestly, they’re the masters of my home. I’m their personal slave and butler, granter of their wishes, and 24/7 on-duty caretaker! But I love every bit of it and wouldn’t exchange my little furballs for anything in the world. And, hence I’m always on a quest to pamper them with little tidbits and gain their approval. Cats are intelligent and sensible creatures, hence ordinary little toys don’t do much for them, they need a higher level of stimulation and entertainment. Cat trees are a very commonplace and sought-after option, your cats can lounge about, play in, scamper around and channel their energy productively in these tree-like mazes. However, cat trees can occupy a substantial amount of space in your home, often clashing with your well-planned interiors and looking like an extreme eyesore! The Bien Bien Cat Tree deals with both of these problems smoothly, owing to its elegant form and visually pleasing aesthetics.

Winner of the Golden Pin Design Award, the Bien Bien Cat Tree by Cheng-Liang Wu and Chia-Wen Lin is a cat tree that also masterfully doubles up as a piece of furniture. It’s a beautiful product that caters to the needs of both your cat (s) and you, functioning as a space that can be utilized and shared by humans and felines alike. You can build the modular cat tree all by yourself, its modularity allows it to be assembled in various ways, according to personal requirements, space restrictions, and of course, the moods of your cat. There are several shelving options for you to store your precious belongings in, as well as little nooks and crannies for your pet to sleep and play around in. Multiple accessories can be attached as means of recreation for your cat, and my favorite one, hands down, is the tiny hammock! Imagine that, a snug hammock for your furry friend to lay in as if on vacation. Your cat can easily climb from one level to another, and the grid-like section also provides them with a sense of privacy. It creates a safe space where they can enjoy their own company without feeling completely isolated from their surroundings. The lower level is also a nifty and accessible spot to place their food and water bowls in!

The Bien Bien Cat Tree’s clean and straightforward structure, elegant usage of wood, and minimal aesthetics allow it to integrate and merge with the interiors of your home perfectly. It stands as a wholesome piece of furniture that harmoniously becomes a part of your home, a design that not only you can enjoy, but so can your cat!

In all the desk designs I’ve seen over the years, this is a first for me! It’s called ‘Ascend’ and it’s been created by Dan Devine for all the cat ladies and fellas out there. Like any cat person will tell you, the moment you give attention to anything but your furry friend, they’ll find a way to lounge on your keyboard or knock over your utensils until it’s back on them! Designed with this in mind, the wood desk has been crafted with multiple ramps and landings for cats to perch up and play. If you can’t fight ’em, invite ’em!

Simple and elegant, the Leaf transforms any plastic bottle you may have lying around into a doggy drinking apparatus. Perfect for those dog walks, the Leaf retrofits onto any regular PET (PolyEthylene Terephthalate) bottle with the standard 28mm diameter threaded neck. Made out of food-grade silicone, the leaf wraps around the bottle, and when flipped over (dog-eared, if you will), becomes a bowl for your dog to drink water from. The cupped leaf along with the reinforcing silicone veins give the dog a vessel to drink out of. Once done, the leaf can be folded back to wrap around the bottle. The leaf can also aid in easy bottle filling by acting as a funnel!

The Circle Zero from PLUTO is a smart litter box that takes care of your cat’s business. Designed to be fully automated, fully enclosed, and exceptionally silent, the litter box comes with a completely enclosed design to provide a private experience. Sensors on the box detect the presence of the cat and wait for a full 7 minutes after they’re done to automatically (and silently) scoop the waste from the litter and store it separately while completely containing and eliminating any odor too. Once the waste compartment is full, you can use any bag or liner to collect it and throw it away. The Circle Zero works with any brand of kitty litter and comes with two types of scoop-designs. Sensors within the box (although it’s technically a sphere) keep track of your cat’s routines and can notify you via an app if any irregularities are spotted. The litter box monitors your cat(s) to give you information that may be of relevance to your veterinarian, and yes, the Circle Zero does support (and can individually track) multiple cats.

Industrial designer Jong Hoon Yoon from Seoul, Korea pondered over the unique idea of thinking from a pet’s perspective and designing an intuitive TV stand. Christened “With”, the space-saving TV unit doubles as a cozy spot for your cat to never let go of. All this while being considerate of the kind human too. Yes, With considers the positioning of the cat and the fellow human, so that they both are in their comfort zone and don’t bother each other. For us, the TV is a mere source of entertainment as well as lousy around on our couch binge-watching streaming content. On the other hand, the heat produced from the TV and the accompanying electronics is an opportunity for your pet to curl up and enjoy in their own space.

Designed by Jihyun Han, Gosewalk consists of two toy pieces, a multi-surfaced mat that resembles the different terrain found outdoors, and a silicone puzzle that stows away dog treats for your pup to sniff and find. The multi-surfaced mat brings the outdoors to your dog with different fabrics resembling different terrains. Twisted and shaggy polyester mimics the look and feel of grass, while tan corduroy and water-repellant canvas bring the colors of sand and soil to your dog’s snout. Pockets and flaps line the mat’s fabrics and provide perfect hiding places for treats and mixtures of herbs and scents to entertain your pup. The silicone puzzle, which seems to be a smaller, more portable companion piece to the bulkier mat, resembles the look of grass through its tender, spring green silicone nubs that grid the toy. Hidden compartments are carved into the silicone puzzle where dog owners can store treats for their pups to sniff out and munch on. Then, in the middle of the puzzle, a darker green, ruffled and leafy centerpiece camouflages yet another hidden storage compartment that can be used to stow away packets of herbal mixtures for dogs to sniff on while hunting for treats.

Do you wish you could track your dog’s location in case of emergencies but don’t want to embed a tracker in his or her body? The Link smart collar offers an alternative, more pet-friendly solution with its removable GPS. However, the Link is for more than emergencies – it includes features that improve your pet’s health and quality of life every day. So, what does the Link do? The collar itself holds the GPS tracker and a LED light for visibility during night walks. Additionally, with the Link companion app, the product can log your dog’s physical fitness, vet records, and other stats related to his or her health. Basically, it’s a FitBit for your pet – keeping them happy, healthy, and safe.

Pet Paws is a high-tech sanitizing mat used to clean, disinfect, and dry the legs of our pets as well as the soles of our shoes. The efficient product design is a simple roll-up mat that is easy to carry and store. The team worked on elevating an existing prototype by adding improved functionality and simplifying it further – the redesigned version is now just a one-piece product, unlike the original one which had four parts. It has two areas on its surface – the first section of the mat has a multi-directional cleaning texture which bends and cleans inside the paws in a friendly manner, and the second section of the mat has a cushioned texture which helps to dry the paws as the pet walks over the microfiber sleeve.

The Ebo Catpal is a robot companion that serves as both a cat sitter and a favorite toy. It’s essentially a mobile security camera that can follow your pet through the house like a Roomba. Similar to a Roomba, the device has sensors to detect obstacles in the vicinity. It also will automatically return to its charging station when low on battery. The camera’s feed is accessible through a mobile app, similar to many home security systems. It also serves a second purpose … let’s be honest, what owner can resist snapping close-ups of their pet’s hijinks? For this reason, the Ebo’s camera records high-resolution footage, which you can save, edit, and post to social media. You can add cute stickers to an image, or even create gifs.

Passakorn Kulkliang designed PAWSPAL in order to help better facilitate the typically difficult task of traveling with animal companions. The product has three main functions: a fully-integrated, chargeable air ventilation system, a bottom deck used to roll the carrying cases, and the individual crate’s inbuilt stackability. If the user were to choose to roll their pets through the airport, just like the common rolling suitcase, then the case or cases can be placed atop the removable base for easy maneuvering throughout any space or building. In addition to the stackable feature and the wheeled base, users can opt-out to carry the case as it is. Lastly, inside the crate, you won’t have to worry about your pet overheating because each case comes equipped with an operating air ventilation system that keeps your animal cool at all times. Each crate from PAWSPAL includes a charging hole for USB C cables so that keeping your pet cool is a given. Your pup or kitten can also enjoy plenty of air circulation and privacy thanks to the air slots that are large enough to maintain healthy airflow, but slim enough to keep prying eyes away from bothering your pet.

Hyun Jin Oh designed CoZY, an adjustable, two-tiered couch that meets both pets and their humans right where they are. When it comes to pet furniture, during the construction phases, functionality sometimes outweighs style, but Hyun Jin Oh found a sweet compromise with CoZY. The sofa’s stripped-down frame is made from stainless steel, evoking an industrial-chic personality, and utilizes the tension of four bold, bright red straps of leather that wrap around the steel bars of CoZY’s armrest and base, two along the rear and one on both sides of CoZY. Hyun Jin Oh’s sofa was designed specifically to create a space that’s accessible for older and smaller dogs to take a breather. Since we typically rest on sofas, dogs naturally follow suit, but sometimes the sofa requires too high of a leap for a smaller or older dog to manage all on its own. In order to encourage dogs to join their human on the couch, Hyun Jin Oh’s CoZY design utilizes a pull-out wooden board that slides easily along the sofa’s X-axis.

Pet-friendly IKEA-worthy furniture designs that perfectly balance the needs of your pet, your home and you!

I have two fluffy and squishy Persian cats and I absolutely adore them! Having them at home is a delight, a fact I’m sure all pet owners can attest to. Another fact that all pet owners can attest to as well – sometimes, just sometimes, our pets can be a little annoying (No, we’re not horrible people for saying this). They’re like children, they have their mood swings, demands, tantrums, and an intense need for attention. They also love leaving our homes in a mess, with no consideration for our belongings. And the few pet products that I do add in my home to keep them entertained and comfortable, often turn out to be complete eyesores, having no respect at all for my interior decor and theme. The secret is to integrate furniture designs in our homes that our pets can rest on, relax, and keep themselves busy with, but also designs that manage to harmoniously merge with our interiors, seamlessly becoming a part of our living space and also providing us with some functionality. We can cast aside the bulky pet products that stand out in our homes awkwardly without even really catering to the needs of our pets. This collection of interesting, multifunctional and not to mention fun furniture designs will keep both you and your pet satisfied!

Designed by Ben Hansen, this simple yet innovative dog house uses excess water from watering plants and filters it into the dog’s water bowl! Rattan with green accents gives it a light, airy feel. The minimal dog house will brighten any corner of your home – hard not to when it holds a cute plant and pet! It’s an adorable piece of furniture that not only serves as a home for your pet but also doubles up as an elegant plant holder, harmoniously merging with the interiors of your home.

The idea behind the Gatrimonial bed frame by CatLife is that it should be a comforting space for the pet and owner. The cat gets a secure, comfortable den, and does not feel as if you are invading his/her space. The furniture also provides plenty of stimuli to keep him/her entertained. I can already hear my roommate’s pet darting through his maze while I lie on the bed above him. Perhaps this cat-friendly furniture will encourage some casual bonding time between the two of us.

Seungji created the Dog House Sofa “to enhance the harmony between humans and their pets”.  Created out of solid wood ash and fabric upholstery, the sofa can seat two people. The entire piece is draped in neutral shades of beige and mocha, so no jarring colors to alarm your pet!  The wooden armrest also doubles as a cozy hideaway for your pets. It’s a private section where they can laze around, with an opening in the armrest, allowing them to sneakily cuddle up to you! Such a design enables the two of you to interact but also provides sufficient personal space, without your pet destroying your beloved upholstery (for a change).

People in small living spaces use low furniture (such as rugs, floor chairs) to build intimate relaxing areas while cats prefer covert spaces, but due to the limited space, there are not many places to hide or play. CatYou in a Circle by Jack Dogson (ironic huh!)didn’t want to separate the pets from their owners so it is designed to cleverly bring them together while also maintaining boundaries. The hollow armrests and backrest offer cats a playground and hiding territory while the coffee table provides a place to sleep. The woven bamboo texture makes it possible for owners to see their cats even when they are hiding and play with through its holes. The size of holes is different in different parts of the furniture to adapt to the needs of the pet as well as humans. The backrest holes are smaller to make the cats feel more secure. But holes above are bigger so that when people lean on the sofa, they can see through the backrest and find their cats underneath.

Named after the acorn nut and clearly inspired by its curvaceous form, the Acorn Leisure chair boasts of a similar voluminous design, with a seat above for you to rest on, and an area below that’s ideally sized for a pet, or a makeshift magazine-rack. The chair’s unique design is instantly eye-catching, with the lack of traditional details like legs, or a backrest that’s attached directly to the seat. Instead, the chair builds itself out of a wooden platform on the base, with a wrought-iron enclosure above it, topped off with a seat. The backrest, instead of emerging from the seat itself, mounts directly onto the base platform, making for an incredibly unique chair that your eye naturally gravitates towards! The wooden parts of the chair are CNC-machined to perfection, and the wrought-iron pipes on the base give the chair its sturdiness while allowing your pets to see your legs as they sit inside their safe-space, providing a unique connection between both occupants! Alternatively, you could use the space under the seat to store books, toys, and pouf pillows too!

The latest piece to catch our eye has been the Kyali cat climber by MADE for its almost human furniture-like design because usually, a cat climber would stick out but this one just blends in like a cozy stool! The climber has a warm inviting vibe because of the woody tones and the soft fabric cushioning that will instantly draw your cats in for a nap. It is a blend of a bed and a dynamic game for your pets. Featuring three shelves or levels, Kyali’s goal was to provide plenty of fun for your feline friends without taking up too much room. It has a modular structure that lets you adjust the shape to create more space for cats to explore or to make it more compact to store.

Grid functions as a comfy resting spot for your pet. With a cozy lounging spot at the bottom and a slanted roof on top, it manages to provide a very homely feel, a safe haven of sorts for your furry friend. The gridded structure at the entrance allows your pet to slither in and out, allowing them to have their own little adventure! On the other hand, the roof also functions as a magazine stand. You can place your magazines on the roof, where they will be supported by an almost inconspicuous shelf.

This particular piece of cat furniture is extremely easy to set-up and seamlessly integrates with your current home setting minus the bulkiness of a conventional cat tree. In 2020, it is all about how modular the product is, and that applies to pet furniture too. With Catssup you can create a DIY jungle gym by simply clamping the different parts onto existing furniture and changing the set-up whenever ‘you’ (read: your cat) need. The best part is that it doesn’t require any floor space so if you want to lie down and WFH – you absolutely can with the extra room! The Catssup set includes a Dot Step, a Sleeping Pill, a Space Ball, a Cloud Lounge, and a Climbing Tower – I would just like to say that I strongly believe human furniture should also have fun labels like this and maybe we would be more invested in it.

Do you have any cats? Well, I have two and honestly tending to them can sometimes be a task by itself. Sometimes I do wonder, are they my pets or am I theirs? I spend most of my time running around and catering to their catty needs, but besides their nitty picky attitude, I do love them to death. If you love your cats as much as I love mine, I’m sure you’d like to add a few tidbits in your home that they could play with, rest on or simply have a gala time with. So, we’ve curated a bunch of cat-friendly furniture that your cats and you will love!

The Cat Flat has been carefully designed based on the advice of Sweden’s first cat psychologist, Susanne Hellman Holmström, who brought to light the 10 necessities apart from basic essentials that cats need for the best emotional and physical health. The needs range from scratching, cleaning fur, playing, discovering, being social, etc. and Cat Flat takes care of them all keeping in mind they spend most of their time indoors. Think of it as a hybrid of a home and a jungle gym for your cat.

The Circle Zero from PLUTO is a smart litter box that takes care of your cat’s business. Designed to be fully automated, fully enclosed, and exceptionally silent, the litter box comes with a completely enclosed design to provide a private experience. The Gatrimonial bed frame, made by a company called CatLife, made this dream a reality. They make furniture that doubles as an adventurous cat’s dream. At first glance, the bed frame looks like a hollow base with circular entrances in each corner. It has plenty of space for your cat to stretch its limbs underneath your bed. When you lift the mattress, it reveals an elaborate maze to keep your feline entertained. The frame also has two sections with a splattering of tiny paw-sized holes that could either be peep-holes, or a little trap for unsuspecting paw swipes. Your ankles will not appreciate it, but your cat will love the hunt.

The designers with Build Tiny recently built and completed a tiny house called Cyril House, which was warmly named after the (human) client’s grandfather who loved tiny houses. The tiny house has all the perks we’ve come to expect and enjoy inside the walls of tiny homes, but Cyril House was also built for cats. You’ll find plenty of floor space for your cat’s litterbox as the designers at Build Tiny designed the bathroom to optimize its overall space so that homeowners can enjoy spacious showers and plenty of room for hygienic routines.

The Kikko Table by Renata Wites and Ada Brożyna for Labbvenn serves as a side table you could place in your living room or bedroom, as well as a cozy spot for your cat to chill in! The lower section of the tables comprises a hammock-like seating section, wherein your kitty can comfortably lounge about. The design effortlessly merges into your home space, while also serving as a pet-friendly piece of furniture.

This Cat Wheel by HolinDesign is an indoor exercise apparatus for your cat! Featuring a structure that resembles the wheel of a bicycle, your cat can run on the 47.2-inch wooden wheel, ensuring he gets his daily dose of exercise…which cats never do. Although I do believe, they would instead prefer to simply lounge about and take a nap on the wheel!

The CATSSUP Luxury Cat Furniture System is like an indoor playground for your furry friend! Usually, bulky cat trees tend to take up a lot of space in our homes, however, this furniture system doesn’t require any floor space, and can be easily installed within your home. The adjustable C-clamp ensures you can fit it onto any surface, including tables and shelves. It’s like a miniature amusement park for your cats!

The ViviPet Wood Cat Dining Table is a wooden feeding station fitted with two beautiful ceramic bowls, functioning as a personal dining table for your cat. One side of the station features a little tray, wherein you can grow cat grass, or you can also use it to store toys, food, or water. Your pet can now dine in style!

This spaceship-inspired cat bed by CATSA looks super cute and unique! The CATSA Lander Mark1 showcases a precision-milled composite aluminum shell and a plush foam bed. It honestly looks really cool to me, and I wouldnt mind adding this to my home space for my furry friend!

This Macrame Cat Hammock by Maka Art Crafts is exquisitely crafted! Handmade from eco-friendly natural oak and cotton rope, the design is safe, comfortable, and meets your cat’s resting needs. Not to mention the aesthetically pleasing hammock wouldn’t look too bad in your living space.

Minimalistic style meets comfort in these pet-friendly furniture designs!

No matter how rough a day you’ve had, just returning back home to your beloved pet is sure to brighten up the remainder of your day! And what keeps your pet bright and happy? That’s right, a couple of comfy spaces curated especially for them to just chill out and have a ball. Product designer Onurhan Demir has created a collection of premium furniture items for your little furry babies, called Weelywally. Weelywally consists of a selection of minimal wooden pieces with a metal or fabric patterned detail for your pets, ranging from little houses to an elevated feeder! Though they all maintain different functionalities, they share a very simple yet modern appeal. With an almost Japanese style philosophy, these pieces will complement any home with their organic and wooden aesthetic. Created from natural wood,  coated with pet-friendly varnish, and using 100% cotton the entire collection is completely safe for your furry buddies, and devoid of any sharp edges for them to hurt themselves with!

Designer: Onurhan Demir

One of my favorites is ‘Oslo’. A handy side table that can accommodate books, lamps, magazines, and all your tidbits, while functioning as a little resting space for your pet. The house-shaped opening provides a nifty entrance for your pet, allowing them to cuddle up in Oslo with a couple of fluffy pillows. A perfect snooze session is guaranteed!

Second in the collection is ‘Odense’, a mini sofa for your pet to sprawl in and have a power nap. Crafted from natural wood and stainless lightweight aluminum, the seating arrangement consists of ample space, so your pet can relax on the premium-quality cushions with a fiber ball filling, in comfort.

Up next is Toscana, a classically simple food feeder for your pet, suitable for dogs as well as cats. Available in a variety of sizes, it consists of a food and water bowl with an accompanying platform. The entire set up has been created from walnut wood, and feeds your pet in style!

And last but not least is their collection of mini houses which has my complete heart! The collection comprises of three cottage-like structures perfectly sized for your pets! Sydney, Volendam, and Wien host a slanted roof, with a triangular metallic structure, the mini houses resemble the home icon on our desktops! Combining cloth, metal, and wood, the mini houses are a fresh change from the boring old pet homes! Sydney boasts a complete aluminum body with a slanted wooden entrance, maintaining a stark and sleek aura. Using wooden rods and slatted structure, each of these pet homes can be easily dismantled for flat storage. The last mini house Wien features a completely natural wood structure with a cotton rooftop flourished with prints! With different print options in a variety of colors,  you can add a pop of fun to your pet’s trusted retreat.

Pet and human-friendly multifunctional furniture designs to give you the best of both worlds!

Calling all pet owners/ lovers! Does your heart skip a beat every time you see a pet-friendly piece of furniture as you scroll through your Instagram feed? Are you almost tempted to buy it, only for seeds of doubt to be sowed into your mind a moment later?  Do you begin to wonder will your pet even adjust to it? Will they even come around to using it? What if their initial fascination fades, only for it to rot away in a corner of the house, busy gathering dust? Well, Istanbul based PET-TURE came up with “the idea of creating pet-friendly design products with an architectural design approach.” Instead of creating conventional pet houses, they’ve designed a unique collection of pet furniture that can be used in multiple ways. This ensures comfortable and aesthetic living spaces for your furry friends, but also functional pieces of furniture that you could use as well, so if ever your pet does decide to reject it, there’s still plenty more for you to do with it. Not to mention all their products have been crafted out of warm natural walnut wood with extreme care and precision to pamper your furry buddies.

Designers: Irmak Sekucoglu & Ece Bac of PET-TURE

‘Cubic’ is another one of PET-TURE’s side table inspired pet-friendly pieces. It is a contemporary home for your pet, with the entrance modeled after the shape of a kitten’s face! But, it also doubles as a coffee table, serving as another neat spot for all your knick-knacks.

‘Corner’ also provides a comfortable space for your pet to laze around in. After an intense play session, they may need their own privacy and the closeted-like feel of Corner gives them just that! Shaped like a side table, the upper section does indeed function like one, allowing you to place your glasses, books, coasters and any other tidbits you may want to add to your living space.

One of my favorite pieces in their collection is ‘Grid’.

Last but not least would be their piece ‘Case’. Case comes in two sizes; one for your smaller animal companions, and the other the Case XL for your larger furry friends. Case functions as a portable bed, equipped with wheels at the bottom, it can be easily put away into storage when not in use.

That is another bonus feature that can be found in all PET-TURE products; 4 brake wheels. These wheels allow you to move the products to any spot in your home according to your convenience. Accompanied by an adjustable stopper, you can also immobilize them when needed. PET-TURE believes in their motto of “animal-friendly design” and they have indeed translated that into their products with furniture that is not only friendly to our pets but also to our homes and us!
