LEGO announces smaller, 1050-brick version of R2D2 to celebrate Star Wars’ 25th Anniversary

Get ready to embark on a journey to a galaxy far, far away as LEGO commemorates the 25th anniversary of Star Wars with this new 1050-brick version of R2D2, hitting stores in March 2024. R2-D2, the iconic droid who’s captured our hearts in countless Star Wars adventures, is making a triumphant return in his brick-built form, following a 2214-brick version from 3 years ago. This newer build is smaller (boasting half the parts of the original), and is focused around younger galactic enthusiasts age 9 and above. However, whether you’re a seasoned LEGO Jedi or young a novice Padawan, this delightful set promises hours of galactic fun!

Designer: LEGO

Standing at 24cm tall, this brick-built rendition of R2-D2 is slightly shorter than the previous 75308 model, which graced us nearly three years ago. However, don’t let the size fool you, as this version is packed with exciting features. With a moveable head, an adjustable third leg, a periscope, and a plethora of tools straight from the Star Wars universe, it’s a true masterpiece.

But that’s not all, folks! R2-D2 comes complete with an information plaque, a Minifigure version of himself, and a special 25th Anniversary Minifigure of the infamous Darth Malak. It’s a Star Wars celebration like no other!

Here’s the lowdown on LEGO Star Wars 75379 R2-D2:

  • Set Name: R2-D2
  • Set Number: 75379
  • Age Range: 9+
  • Piece Count: 1,050
  • Price: $99.99
  • Release Date: March 1st, 2024

So, mark your calendars for this epic rendezvous with R2-D2 in March 2024. Whether you’re a young Jedi or a seasoned builder, this set promises adventure, nostalgia, and the joy of creating alongside one of Star Wars’ most beloved characters.

This R2-D2 Tamagotchi Is Definitely The Droid You’re Looking For

Looking for a new droid friend after your last one got shot up by Stormtroopers who were aiming for something else entirely? Well, you’re in luck, because this R2-D2 Tamagotchi is available for pre-order (affiliate link). Available in two colorways (white with blue accents, or blue with white accents), the digital droid pet is sure to be this year’s must-have stocking stuffer when it starts shipping this November.

R2 can be trained in 19 different skills and caretakers must keep him charged and cleaned by playing holochess and firefighting minigames. There are an additional seven minigames that can be unlocked based on his current skill level. And instead of dying like previous Tamagotchi pets, R2 will be hauled off by Jawas if you prove neglectful for too long.

I can’t even begin to estimate how many Tamagotchi digital pets I killed in my youth due to forgetfulness, but suffice it to say their graves could probably fill an entire hard drive. Am I more responsible now? I’ll let you know in November, presumably while bartering with a Jawa over a dead R2 unit.

Star Wars Landspeeder Punchbowl Tiki Mug Set: DUI on Tatooine

Tropical tiki drinks: I daydream about them often, usually when I’m stuck at work under horrible fluorescent lighting watching the time pass at a snail’s pace. Enter this $70 X-34 Landspeeder tiki mug set crafted by Geeki Tikis and available from Tonyk. I can already close my eyes and imagine myself much happier at happy hour.

The X-34 Landspeeder punchbowl itself holds 20-ounces, making it a relatively small punch bowl but the perfect size for a personal punch bowl. Of course, every punch bowl is personal size if you try hard and believe in yourself. The set also includes 2-ounce mini muglets of Luke Skywalker and his trusty astromech droid R2-D2 for when you just need to take a shot first (like Han!).

I’ve actually started collecting tiki mugs, but I have to watch myself when I’m buying them because my collection can’t grow too large too quickly without my wife taking notice. “Just how many tiki mugs does one person need?” I imagine her asking while I bite my tongue and don’t ask her many pairs of shoes one person needs because I’m tired of sleeping on the sofa downstairs.

Yes Please! R2-D2 Architectural Desk Lamp

R2-D2 Architectural Desk Lamp

I think it’s safe to say that R2D2 is my favorite droid. Everytime I see themed R2D2 products there’s something inside of me that just screams “WANT”, and this lamp is no different.

This lamp was released only yesterday by ThinkGeek and it’s already getting lots of attention. This officially-licensed Star Wars merchandise lamp can be adjusted to any situation while shedding light on whatever you need, just like actual R2D2. One bummers that this lamp doesn’t make any noises so you’ll need to do the sound effects yourself. Ever if you don’t need another desk lamp I’m sure you’re just itching inside to replace your current one with the blue-white droid version.

The lamp obviously comes rocking all of R2D2 trademarks and colors. It also includes a 60-inch cord with an inline power switch, and uses 40-watt bulbs. Looks like Star Wars meets Pixar ha? It’s a pretty good image of how that would look like. A great addition to your R2D2 or Star Wars collection, it’s available on ThinkGeek for $59.99.
