This space-saving sideboard transforms into a dining table complete with chairs

Although work and schools have more or less returned to normal face-to-face arrangements, our homes have forever been changed by the events of the past three years. We’ve come to realize how precious space is and how little we might have of it, forcing many to reorganize and redesign their homes to accommodate changing needs and circumstances. Multi-functional and transforming furniture have become popular because of this, especially those that can serve as a work desk from time to time. There are many variations available, stretching the creativity and imagination of designers, but this rather intriguing sideboard cabinet gets extra points for having a design that not only incorporates different use cases but even includes four chairs in its shape-shifting transformation.

This piece of furniture immediately attracts attention even in its folded-up state, thanks to its almost anthropomorphic design that gives the sideboard a cute face and tiny arms on its sides. The wooden piece wouldn’t look out of place as a part of the cast in Beauty and the Beast, especially considering how lively it can be once you start unfolding parts here and there. But even in this form, it already serves a functional purpose, with drawers and internal shelves that can hide almost anything you need, from containers to tools.

Fold that face down and you get a square desk on two legs that you can use for an ad hoc workspace. In fact, the sideboard can serve a purely office-oriented purpose, holding office supplies, stationery, books, and whatnot, all within easy reach but out of sight once the day’s work is done. That said, that might be limiting its use too much since you can extend the front edge of that desk and unfold the top to reveal a longer, rectangular table that can comfortably sit three to four people around its three open sides.

Sitting won’t be a problem either, which is where this sideboard’s ingenuity comes into play. Open its sides, the one with bent arms, and you’ll have access to storage that can fit four foldable wooden chairs. It’s practically a complete and self-sufficient package for any kind of home use, including storage space, desk space, and chairs. A dining table is the most immediate function that comes to mind, but it can also be used for work, playing, and any other activity that doesn’t need a lot of horizontal space.

The wooden sideboard is a good example of how furniture designs have become a bit more clever in light of the changing situations at home. Its multifunctional transforming form remains useful even long after work-from-home arrangements have stopped for some. It is also a great way to add some character to a space just by standing there, thanks to its rather whimsical face that almost invites you to play with it and discover its hidden treasures.

This quirky sideboard is like a loyal pet that brings your favorite book forward

Most people have plenty of reading materials scattered around the house, whether they’re actual books or collections of magazines. No one reads all of these at the same time, of course, and some might have favorites among the ones they’ve already read. Keeping books organized is relatively easy if you have the right storage options for them, like shelves and even side tables. Keeping track of your current book or favorite magazines, however, might be a bit trickier. You can have one place to store books and another to enthrone your special stuff, but that means keeping two pieces of furniture. To simplify things while making your room look a bit more interesting, this rather cute design gives the sideboard a literal twist that gives the furniture a personality not that different from a friendly pet.

Although originally intended to store tableware and other culinary items, sideboards have become multipurpose furniture that serves as a dedicated space for anything you need to keep. Traditional designs are really no different from cabinets with drawers and doors, but there is definitely more than one way to make these room accessories, especially if they serve as accents to make a space look more interesting. After all, if a piece of furniture is going to stand at the side and occupy a lot of space, it might as well make your room look appealing.

The Dachshund trades the multipurpose compartments of a typical sideboard for a single, open area. Although it’s certainly possible to put anything in this space, it is designed particularly to hold a row of books or magazines. In essence, it’s like a single for reading materials expressed as a low sideboard. That alone wouldn’t really be enough to catch anyone’s attention, but the sideboard’s body twists upward on one end to add a bit of flavor and functionality.

This twisted end has a somewhat shallow box that can be used to hold a few items. The most natural thing to put inside it would be the book or magazine you’re currently reading, making it easy to access without having to pull it out from a pile. Alternatively, you can also enshrine your favorite or most beautiful book, setting it apart for everyone to see. Of course, you can also just put decorative items to complement whatever decor or theme you might have going in the room.

The Dachshund sideboard puts a simple twist on a standard design to create a memorable sight and a new experience. The furniture’s form is akin to a pet, like the canine namesake, that wags its tail or, more appropriately, brings you your newspaper or, in this case, your book. The smooth curve of that part is also something that’s difficult to pull off with wood, making this unusual piece of furniture a fun yet elegant addition to your interior.

The minute you settle down on it, place your favorite book upon it, or simply brush past it, you need to instantly feel “Ah, I’m home!” And it’s those intricated furniture designs with hidden little details that are the most fun to add to our homes! One such example is the Spacing Sideboard by Deniz Aktay.

You’ve probably come across Deniz Aktay and his prolific designs during one of your mindless Instagram scrolling sessions. His designs, on the other hand, are completely mindful. His designs vary from a unique bookshelf that functions as a side table to a coffee table design with intriguing layers. They are designed with immense attention to detail, an innate respect for the material in hand, and a desire to provide maximum functionality in a minimal form. And the Spacing Sideboard is a true embodiment of all these characteristics.

The Spacing Sideboard is a simple wooden piece of furniture that is marked by two bright orange legs. These colorful legs are the star attraction of the sideboard! Because here’s the interesting part, Deniz has integrated the legs into the center of the sideboard, and also carefully left them hollow. The hollowness of the diagonal legs allows them to function as storage spaces! The amount of space is ideal to fit a book or two into it. Yes, you can’t place bigger items, such as say your laptop or even a really fat book in it, but it’s a genius storage solution to display a few of your favorite (normal-sized) books!

The rest of the sideboard features a uniform rectangular form and is quite simple, which provides an interesting contrast to the playful legs. The sideboard also features push-to-open drawers that emphasize the length of the sideboard. All in all, the Spacing Sideboard is a smart storage solution with quirky aesthetics that can add an element of joy to your home, while providing great functionality.
