LEGO just dropped a Spotify album… and it’s filled with hours of soothing ASMR soundtracks made using LEGO bricks

Contrary to popular belief, the album isn’t filled with “Everything Is Awesome” on loop.

Titled LEGO® White Noise, the album explores a unique aspect of the LEGO experience – their sound. While the bricks are incredibly visual, tactile, and versatile, they also have a uniquely vast and engaging auditory experience. By experimenting with over 10,000 brick combinations, the designers at LEGO have unveiled a 6-track album, featuring 30-minute long audio tracks of just sounds using LEGO bricks, from the familiar rattle of rummaging through a carton of bricks, to actually clipping bricks together to make sculptures/models. The tracks have an incredible ASMR quality to them, and honestly make for perfect background audio while you work, play, code, read, etc. I can’t understate exactly how therapeutic the sound of the LEGO bricks being clinked together are, but just mere minutes into the first track, I feel like a 10-year old child again.

The album was designed to help listeners relax and unwind. The sounds trigger a part of the brain associated with meditation and relaxation, given that our mind associates LEGO with those very attributes too. Just the way the smell of cinnamon and pumpkin get you feeling ‘autumny’, the LEGO White Noise tracks instantly transport you to a place of being happy and carefree. Once again, the folks at LEGO have shown us that their bricks truly have unlimited potential!

The best white noise machines for babies

There’s a lot to learn when you have a child in the NICU, and one tip I picked up from the nursing staff was the importance of having a white noise machine at home. Babies often find white (or brown or pink) noise soothing as it recreates some of the...

The sound of Snoozing!

snooz

Ever been in a room too quiet? It’s unnerving. The body gets acclimatized to background noise, so when there’s too little of it, or too much of it, you feel uneasy. White noise is something that helps us relax. Think of it as just a low-decibel Shhhh sound. A lot of the sounds we heard in the womb was white noise, so much so that it even today has a profoundly relaxing effect on us. Some people like leaving the fan on or the AC running, because those low level frequencies help us lull off to sleep.

Snooz is a white-noise generating machine that is simple, effective, and deliciously elegant! Designed by the guys at MNML Design, the Snooz is as comforting to look at as the white noise it creates. Snooz is different from other white noise machines in the sense that unlike its competition, it doesn’t play a looped piece of audio fuzz. Snooz actually has a fan built inside it that generates white noise (without the distracting breeze). You can even increase the level of white noise by simply rotating the plush outer fabric cover. A capacitive panel on the top allows you to power the Snooz and even work its functions. Since Snooz works best when kept away from the bed (in order to fill the room with white noise), the Snooz app comes in handy, allowing you to modify the volume, set automatic standby, etc. All this awesomeness comes bundled into a tiny ball so small, you’ll want to carry it even when you travel. Just switch it on, and off you go to lala-land!

SO go ahead, hack your way into a better and faster sleep! Snorlax approves.

Snooz Generates White Noise So You Can Sleep Better

snooz-1

Random sounds keeping you up at night? There’s a few things you can do, from having a stern talk with your neighbours to taking prescription medication to knock yourself out. In between these options, there’s also white noise. Snooz is a device that generates white noise that masks the ambient sounds in your home, by using a real fan rather than some low quality speaker. A simple dial on top lets you adjust the intensity, which can range from a “light fan sound (think table fan) to a deep fan drone (think airplane cabin) and everything in-between.” White noise works to help you sleep because “it reduces the delta between your baseline sound and containment noise so many disturbances aren’t heard and the others sound much quieter (i.e. the “startle factor” is reduced).”

In a 2008 Consumer Reports analysis, 2,021 survey respondents found sound machines to be more helpful than over-the-counter drugs or supplements like Tylenol PM and Unisom (and almost as effective as prescription medication like Ambien and Lunesta).

Snooz’s design is modern, portable (at 2.5″ tall) and self-contained with room for the power cord within. You can control it with an app on your smartphone, and a “nursery calibration” feature will let you set the upper volume to a level that’s safe for your infant, if you were to place it near his crib.

All in all, Snooz looks like a great product to help you get to sleep, for which you’ll be asked to pledge $59 with shipping in March 2016.

Turn on the Quiet

This audio device, called Joe, will be your bestie when it comes to your personal office space at work. When surrounding noise pollution is disturbing your flow, Joe produces white noise (a sound composed of all audible frequencies to the human ear) to essentially “cancel-out” cacophony so you can focus. It’s like being in your own imaginary bubble of isolation when you don’t have the option to close the door! Vid after the jump!

Finally, Rest for the Weary!

Can’t sleep because of all the noise? No prob! Ipno allows you to find sleep even in the most disruptive of environments. This personal-size speaker broadcasts white noise: a sound that includes all frequencies and has hypnotic qualities that allow the brain to disconnect external noise while soothing the heart rate and clearing the mind. Good things when you’re trying to catch ZZZs! Simultaneously, microphones in the back capture surrounding noise which is then transmitted to a Digital Signal Processor to cancel out the external noise.
