Puffy blanket turns into an outdoor coat, is made from 100% recycled materials

As someone who lives in a tropical weather country, having heavy duty blankets for indoors and outdoors isn’t really a priority. Even when I’m in an airconditioned room, I rarely use blankets as I’m not used to it. But when I was able to visit New Zealand during their winter season, I finally understood the need to have a good piece of blanket during those cold, dreary nights. What if you could get a “state-of-the-art” blanket that can also be worn as a sort of coat outdoors and is made from recycled materials?

Designer: Houdini x Rumpl

The Reconnect Puffy Blanket is the brand’s most technical blanket as it has a 2-layer waterproof hardshell to protect you from extreme weather conditions, Houdini-branded hardware, French seams, and an ultra-soft-to-touch finish. The hardshell is rated at 20,000mm H20 with a breathability of 15,000 g/m2/24h so it can protect you from heavy rain and wet snow in case you’re going outside with your blanket. It is made with 200g hollow-fiber insulationand with the Houdini C9 Ripstop so the blanket is comfortable and breathable and of course is durable so it should last you longer than most blankets.

Another great feature of this blanket is that it is sustainable and has 100% circularity. It is made from post-consumer recycled and recycled materials. They say that 1 blanket produced is equivalent to 66 plastic bottles that have been removed from landfills. If you’re going outdoors in really cold weather for some reason, the Reconnect Puffy Blanket has a Double-snap Cape Clip feature so you can turn it into a hands-free wearable that can act like a coat.

Of course a blanket that can act like coat is not the most fashionable of winter wear but being posh is probably not your first concern when you’re out in cold weather. If it’s comfort and protection from the elements that you’re looking for, the Reconnect Puffy Blanket seems to be a great option to keep you warm during those cold winter nights. The price tag of $200 seems pretty reasonable for something that has all these features.

The strongest fleece on the planet will get tougher as it’s colder, protecting you from -179°C cryogenic cold

If you’re planning a trip to space anytime soon, you probably need a super strong jacket that can withstand the cold to wherever you may go. I mean of course, you’ll be wearing a spacesuit but what if one day we’ll be able to hang out on the surface of a planet without needing that? You’ll still probably need a jacket, for example, if we can someday live in Saturn since Titan, their largest moon, is cold. Like cryogenic level cold. We’re still years, maybe decades or a century away from living elsewhere but people who live in really cold parts of the world need a pretty good and durable jacket.

Designer: Volleback

The Titan Fleece jacket claims to be one of if not the strongest in the world, not just in protecting you from the cold but also some conditions that may cause damage or abrasions to your jacket. A fleece jacket is normally pretty easy to rip or shred, even though it is pretty warm and comfortable. So they needed to add some other materials to make it stronger, like the fiber Dyneema, a material normally found on the side of tanks, and reinforced with a material made from high-tenacity nylon and is waterproof, lightweight, and triple-layered.

While it is the “world’s toughest fibre”, Dyneema isn’t the softest or cuddliest. So they had to heat, stretch, and break the material over and over until it became thin enough and then they spun it with polyester and elastane. The result is a honeycomb structure that is 3-dimensional and looks like it came from outer space. The jacket then becomes futuristic-looking with its textured look with the fleece, Dyneem, and nylon all bringing comfort and protection not just from the cold but from abrasions, extreme weather conditions, scratches, etc.

The Titan Fleece jacket also has a magnetic mechanism in the zipper that will let you open and close it easily even when you’re wearing thick gloves. It even has a pull cord that lets you do it up if you just have one hand free. There are also pockets all over the jacket, some oversized, so you can keep things in it and they have water resistant zippers and metal snap fasteners. This is basically a jacket that you can wear while climbing a mountain during winter and when someday we’ll be able to go to Titan and/or Saturn.

Dadaism J’s portable Desk Heater is a wired appliance that works in a similar fashion to traditional space heaters, by simply plugging the Desk Heater’s cord into the wall, the appliance disperses warm air into the room. Embedded inside Desk Heater’s main compartment, heat coils convert the electrical energy into heat, sending it through the heater’s diagonal plastic grating. Throughout Desk Heater’s build, minimalist accents like the grating give the appliance a finished look. 9. Breez desktop hand-warmer

If you’ve ever tried to text in the cold, you know that your fingers tend to lock because of the low temperatures… so imagine trying to type on a keyboard in the cold. Whether you’re working or gaming, the Breez desktop hand-warmer keeps your fingers toasty as you clack away at the keys of your USB or wireless keyboard. The horizontal radiator design uniformly warms your hands as you type, covering the entire keyboard so there’s never a cold-zone near the Numpad.

10. The Smartmi Heater

I sometimes drape my socks on my space heater, for instance. This method, while cheap, has two obvious problems:

1) I’m mildly worried that it is a fire hazard,

2) the clothes block the warm air from heating my room.

The Smartmi Heater has solved both these problems with two design changes. The first is simple – adding an adjustable handlebar to the heating unit. When the bar is in the upright position, it functions similarly to the handle of a briefcase, making the appliance more portable despite its bulk. If you pull it down in front of the heating unit itself, it acts as a rack to dry or warm up your clothes. (Finally, I can get that fresh-from-the-dryer warmth without risking a fire.)

So, we’ve curated a bunch of super interesting and handy designs to get you through this winter season…in style!

Vollebak’s ‘Indestructible Puffer’ is exactly what its name says it is. And the puffer owes its indestructibility to the ‘single strongest fiber known to man’, Dyneema. Dyneema is said to be 15x stronger than Steel. If you’re ever headed to the coldest place on Earth, this jacket’s got to be in your hand luggage. The Indestructible Puffer can withstand temperatures as low as 140 degrees Fahrenheit. In fact, the cold only titillates the puffer. As the temperature drops, the jacket goes into Hulk mode, gaining strength as it gets colder.

Quanta Vici designed smart app-controlled gloves and socks which have a real-time heat regulation algorithm; generating a maximum heat of 131 Degrees Fahrenheit (depending on your preferred settings) for over 6.5 hours of operation on a single charge. The compression socks are designed to keep the feet from swelling and they also have an anti-blister cushion which is a good addition for long-duration use. Both these accessories are designed to be breathable, especially the gloves boasting thin and light material (anti-slippery grip texture) for dexterous tasks like operating your touchscreen phone or maybe playing the guitar.

The V-CUUB mini humidifier is downright adorable. If I saw this online or in a store, I probably wouldn’t have realized its real purpose until after I bought it. Figurines like this one can simply exist to spark joy, and that would be enough. By happenstance, the V-CUUB suits my needs more than other humidifier products: it’s small, making it incredibly easy to store in my apartment, and would be something I could take with me on moves.
