Montblanc x Naruto collection celebrates the power of storytelling and self-expression

As one of the most popular and best-selling mangas (Japanese comics) in history, it’s not unusual to see “Naruto” printed or even engraved in many products, some of them expensive, limited editions even. Naturally, these items are meant to appeal to fans of the character and the franchise, which happens to correspond to a certain market demographic. It might come as a surprise, then, that the not-so-silent Ninja is now part of Montblanc’s family with a collection that encompasses a variety of products, ranging from pens to bags to even a smartwatch. This, however, isn’t simply fan service but is almost a perfect match for the marque’s love of storytelling and the tools that enable that kind of written tradition.

Designer: Montblanc

Given its origin as a manga, it’s too easy to brush off Naruto as something for kids, though the mature themes in its long-running story would suggest otherwise. Like many franchises that have now spanned generations, there are many topics, themes, and even philosophies that can be gleaned from its stories, and Montblanc zeroed in on two of the most important ones for readers and fans of the series. At its heart, Naruto is a story of stories and growth, where the titular character learns to express his own identity through stories, lessons, and values passed through both oral and written traditions.

Given that theme, the Montblanc x Naruto collection encompasses an almost random selection of items from the brand’s portfolio. There are the usual culprits of pens and notebooks, but there are also accessories like leather bags and pouches. There’s even a limited edition Montblanc Summit 3 Naruto smartwatch that puts the teenage hero front and center, presuming you keep the pre-installed watch face, of course.

More than just Naruto-branded items, these products carry symbolism that Montblanc explains is important to the transmission of knowledge, especially in this fictional world. These symbols are sometimes discreet, like those engraved on the side buttons of the Wear OS smartwatch or the subtle cloud patterns on the fountain pen’s barrel. At other times, they are extravagant, like the fountain pen’s 14K carat solid gold nib engraved with the symbol of Naruto’s hometown.

The variety of products in this Montblanc x Naruto collection is definitely enough to appeal to fans of all ages and genders, though do expect to pay a pretty penny for these doubly branded items. Of course, unlike your typical Naruto merchandise, these are meant not only to last but even to become heirlooms you can pass on to a younger generation of Naruto fans, almost like how they do it in the manga.

Inder Copper Pen beautifully ages for a look that is uniquely yours

The Inder Pen The Copper Collection

Copper is a natural element often ignored whenever gold and silver are the other available options. Not many people realize this, but copper is also unique like those two precious metals commonly used in making jewelry and coins. It is a good heat and electricity conductor, which is why it is used in electronics such as motors and wirings. Copper is also strong and pliable, making it a perfect material for crafting different mundane but very useful objects. The element actually extends even beyond the physical properties as it can also be vital to one’s health and diet. As an ideal example of those characteristics, there is a copper fountain pen ready to offer sophistication while functioning as a pen for whatever your writing needs are.

Designer: Rakha Singh

The Inder Pen Copper Pen

The Inder Pen Copper Pen

Rakha Singh specially designs the Inder Pen as a beautiful, elegant, and slim pen that appears minimalist sans any logo or clip. It doesn’t have an embellishment you would typically find on expensive pens. This thing comes in copper, giving a look and feel some warmth, especially when touched. Copper as a material gets beautiful with age, developing patina in either turquoise or deep charcoal which means the shade will be unique for every user. You can also choose for the fountain pen to get some polishing into something with a more excellent, shiny finish. The Inder Pen boasts an untreated copper surface, but the patina changing over time can give it a look that is uniquely yours. The copper pen is also low-maintenance as you can use lemon or vinegar to clean the surface.

The copper Inder Pen can grow with you, that is if you don’t carelessly misplace the pen as any of your other pens. Hopefully, the novelty of the pen and the price will make you more conscious and protective of your stuff. Anything from the Copper Collection can be powerful with its ability to kill 99.9%  of bacteria in about a couple of hours. Now that’s something that may be really helpful these days, especially since the pandemic isn’t over yet.

The Inder Pen The Copper Collection

Anything that would offer peace of mind, at least for a while, is very much welcome on our radar. It may be perfect for people working in sensitive environments like a clinic, hospital, or just about anywhere where sanitation is just as important as air. The designer Singh said: “Copper kills bacteria, yeasts, and viruses on contact and retains this property even after being wiped down, making it ideal for those working in sensitive environments.”

The Inder Pen Copper Pen

Copper is now widely used in art and architecture; that is why we see it more directly in homes and offices. The choice to utilize copper is to make a pen that is beautifully handcrafted from a solid rod of copper with quality and purity. It is actually carved, so you know there is much effort put into one pen alone. The design is sophisticated and yet is created with durability in mind. It can be that one pen you can use forever, not only for how it looks but because it can really stand the test of time. It can be suitable for either light or heavy-duty work because it doesn’t have anything in the design that makes it complicated to understand.

The Inder Pen The Copper Collection

The Inder Copper Pen is just a fountain pen, but it is an incredible choice because it glides on any paper. It allows you to perfectly create letters on a surface with minimum effort and perfect balance. It has a cap that screws for a more effortless opening. The European cartridges are black or blue like regular writing pens, and it has the internal standard pen converter that may help with bottled ink use. A coppery-brown ink cartridge also comes with each order of The Inder Pen to complete the “copperness” of the product.

The Inder Copper Pen part of The Copper Collection by the designer is made by hand and crafted from solid copper. You only need to polish the fountain pen with cloth or wax as the latter may minimize oxidization. It happens naturally, but it’s what makes the copper pen unique; just make sure you’re keeping it away from anything that may harm the material like water, cream, or perfume.

The sleek Neo pen design gives off space vibes

While typing out our thoughts and documents on laptops, tablets, or phones is much more convenient now, there’s still something about the art of writing on paper that appeals to a lot of people. For those who do journaling, note-taking, planning, and writing on notebooks, diaries, planners, and papers, sometimes what you use to write makes the difference as well. Choosing, collecting, and using pens is a whole, thriving “industry” despite the world being primarily digital now.

Designer: Ray Yu

A design concept for a nature-inspired but futuristic-looking fountain pen is called Neo, the Space Pen. The shape and look and feel of this pen is inspired by a hybrid of animals, sleek silver cars, sculptures, and even a rocket blasting off into space. Basically, it’s combining organic forms with various horizontal shapes to come up with a glossy and shiny-looking pen that encourages you to pick it up and write on paper.

The tip of the Neo pen looks like your typical expensive fountain pen but with a few lines and shapes to give it a more spear-like look. If you just showed me a close-up of the fountain tip I would have thought it was a weapon of some kind rather than a pen. Well, some say that a pen is mightier than the sword so it can definitely function as a sort-of weapon. The cap is as sleek as the entire pen and the other end tapers off to something slightly thinner than the middle part.

The renders didn’t really show how the pen will actually look like when used as a writing instrument. Based on its tip though it will probably have thinner lines rather than the thicker ones that we see in some fountain pens. It would have been nicer to see some handwriting samples since that’s what really appeals to pen collectors, aside from the actual design. But it seems interesting enough, if not groundbreaking. With pens though, you tend to go for the familiar and functional rather than the innovation.

The award-winning stilform INK fountain pen is back in invincible, everlasting black titanium

stilform’s vision for the humble is so incredibly simplistic and elegant, it won an award for the World’s Best Pen in 2016. It’s easy to make products better by complicating them, adding new features, or giving them design upgrades… making a product better by simplifying it is an incredibly challenging task, yet the stilform INK handles it beautifully.

Celebrated as the most successful fountain pen in crowdfunding history, the stilform INK is back in its minimal, delightful glory, but with a few tiny tweaks that make it better and more long-lasting. The pen comes in its signature cylindrical design, with two flat edges running length-wise to prevent it from rolling. Its iconic element lies in the magnetic cap, which cleverly self-aligns as it snaps to the pen, thanks to multiple hidden neodymium magnets that make sure the cap fits on the right way. To open the pen, just twist the cap causing the inner magnets to repel each other, and the cap effortlessly comes off to reveal the German-made Peter Bock nib sitting inside.

In its pursuit of simplicity, the pen hides all its functional details to keep its form pristine. Made almost entirely from machined titanium and aluminum, the stilform INK doesn’t use any plastic parts or glue in its assembly… just old-fashioned threading, tolerances, and magnets help hold the pen together and allow it to last practically forever. The titanium outer body of the stilform INK comes with an added Diamond-like Coating to protect its surface finish, making it absolutely scratch and abrasion-proof, keeping your pen looking brand new even after decades.

Each stilform INK pen comes impeccably crafted and assembled in Germany, in a variety of anodized colors for the aluminum variant and in DLC black for the titanium variant. You can choose the style of Bock nib you want fitted in your pen, along with a variety of add-ons, including a leather pouch, an aluminum base, or a machined metallic pocket clip that slides right onto the pen’s cap whenever you want. You can even grab a discount on stilform’s entire pen collection, featuring the stilform INK along with its Red Dot Design Award and German Design Award-winning pens, the stilform Ballpoint, and the Arc Gel Pen.

stilform INK – Magnetic Fountain Pen in DLC Black Titanium

Let the Cap Bounce –  The most effortless and enjoyable way of getting started with a fountain pen – give the cap a simple twist and it gets automatically pushed off by a strong magnetic force.

Self-aligning – Through a unique magnetic closure, the distinctive flat sides along the pen will always align with themselves perfectly. With a satisfying click, your INK fountain pen can become your favorite fidget gadget.

No Threads, Comfortable Writing – Instead of relying on a screw-on cap like most metal fountain pens, the INK pen with the magical mechanism ensures a smooth pen surface and thus the most comfortable holding position.

2 x 4-Pole Neodymium Magnets – By applying two strong N52 neodymium magnets, the INK pen features a unique magnetic mechanism that not only simplifies the traditional opening/closing mechanism, also brings out a simple and minimal form.

Stop the Rolling Now – Without the need to sacrifice an elegant and minimal form, you can still get a pen that doesn’t roll away. The aligned flat sides and sharp edges along the pen stop pen-rolling effectively.

A Fountain Pen That Lasts

Titanium black with Diamond-like Carbon Coating – In addition to the original Titanium and Aluminum pens, a brand new Titanium Black, equipped with a special DLC coating, is now added to the collection. The surface of the Titanium Black is ultra-durable and scratch-resistant. Scratches caused by hard metal such as a key disappear without a trace.

All Metal Construction, No Glue, No Plastic – The makers have applied high-grade titanium or aluminum materials from the body to the core. The superb materials are well known for the extremely high durability and exceptional light weight, making the INK is a truly sustainable fountain pen. All parts are precision-machined and designed to be form-fit in order to avoid the using of glue.

Super Durability – Through robust housing structures, the inner magnetic mechanism is well protected and secured to prevent the magnets from exposing to any potential damage, making the INK your long-lasting companion.

Great Balance, No Writing Fatigue – The fine balance of the pen never gets unnoticed by a true fountain pen lover. Writing with the INK won’t cause any fatigue or cramp over long periods.

Let Your Pen Speak About You

Build your Favorite Pen – Your pen is easily the best and most subtle way to express your character. They offer nibs in various sizes and materials, it is also super easy to switch nibs with the INK fountain pen. The nibs by the renowned German manufacturer Peter Bock ensure an extremely smooth ink flow and the best writing experience for you. Be creative and explore the color combinations with nibs in Silver Steel, Black Steel, Titanium or Gold!

Attachable Clip – Created through metal injection molding, the attachable clip turns your INK pen from a high-end office stationery to your new everyday carry. Owing to improved tolerances and a soft textile layer inwards, the clip can slide onto your INK pen firmly without scratching the pen.

The Pikachu Pen Chooses You!

Poké-maniacs, here’s one more unnecessary item for your vast collection of Pokémon merch – an official Pikachu fountain pen. The limited-edition pen features the classic Pikachu yellow and red color scheme, and will look great as ink hits the paper.

The set is based on the easy-to-use Lamy Safari model fountain pen, and comes with two interchangeable Pikachu poses to snap onto its red clip. It also includes a handsome yellow carrying case, and a weighted Poké Ball stand to keep the pen in when not in use.

This unique pen set was first offered in China last year. It’s now available for the first time in the U.S. via crowdshopping site Drop, where it’s selling for $159. It’s only up for order through 8/24/19, so you’ll want to move fast before they’re gone.

A fountain pen that never dries out? The answer lies in this pen’s redesigned cap

The fountain pen hasn’t seen much innovation in the past decade aside from garnering a lot of interest on Instagram and Facebook with those therapeutic calligraphy videos. There’s something quite literally old-school about the fountain pen. It’s elegant, classy, has a user experience that’s definitely dated, but hasn’t grown old. People still use fountain pens today, because they’re elite, graceful, and deliver a line quality that’s beyond compare, thanks to the fountain pen’s ability to use different kinds of ink. The fountain pen, however, has two flaws that haven’t gone away with time. A. Sometimes they leak. In your hand, in your pocket, on paper. They’re delicate, and any unwanted pressure on the ink-flow mechanism and the ink gets everywhere. B. When they’re not leaking, they’re busy drying up. All inks are water-based, and since the fountain pen isn’t like a ball-point or gel pen, with an air-tight refill, ink within the fountain pen’s tip is almost always in contact with air, being affected by temperature, etc. This causes the ink around the tip to dry out. A dry tip is a headache because it stops the ink-flow, and you need to manually clean out the tip before you can use the pen again.

With a marvelous bit of problem solving, done through re-engineering a product that hasn’t seen much innovation in over half a century, Indigraph eliminates the pen’s drying out problem. How does it do this? By constantly keeping the pen’s tip in contact with water! The answer seems almost child-like, but with some design and engineering skill, Indigraph manages to pull it off. The pen’s cap is redesigned to house a mini-water-reservoir. When you secure the cap on top of the pen’s nib, the nib makes contact against a specially engineered membrane that keeps it moist. The water doesn’t drip onto the pen’s nib… it just keeps it lubricated, thanks to the special membrane. A clear window on the cap allows you to see if the water in the reservoir has run out, and a simple screw-to-open inlet lets you fill the cap right up.

The pen’s disruptive cap design gives the Indigraph superpowers. You can now use pretty much any sort of ink with the fountain pen, without worrying about it drying or spoiling the pen’s intricate ink-flow mechanism. The Indigraph works with all sorts of ink, including Chinese and Indian inks, making it ideal for calligraphers, artists, designers, drafters, and hobbyists. This ability to constantly maintain (and even clean) itself practically makes the Indigraph for both experienced and amateur fountain pen users. The Indigraph requires no upkeep apart from the periodic refilling of ink into its body… an activity that’s therapeutic and exciting. The pen comes with a detachable pocket clip too, giving it the flair of a Lamy, with its distinctly minimal body design. Armed with three nibs for different applications ranging from line-work to calligraphy to fine penmanship, the Indigraph successfully makes an old, high-maintenance writing instrument new, innovative, and easy-to-use again!

The IndiGraph fountain pen does not dry out and allows the use of Indian/Chinese ink.

How does it achieve this? Using the advanced IndiGraph technology, a water reservoir is provided in the upper part of the pen cap, separated by a custom-designed membrane, which allows the passage of moisture – but not water – and stops the nib from ever drying out.

Unlike other fountain pens, IndiGraph allows the use of Indian inks. What’s special about this? While using this type of ink, when the ink dries, a waterproof film of shellac is created which protects the drawing from water, making it ideal for working with watercolors or inking comics, among other graphic arts. This means that, if you become a true Indigrapher, you won’t have to worry about ruining your work – with Indigraph that won’t happen.

The origin of the idea goes back to the need to be able to draw in the open air with Indian ink without a dip pen. In the 1980s, the English company ‘Osmiroid ’ produced a special pen for this purpose. The pen consisted of a normal fountain pen but with a nib that could be disassembled to clean it. The problem was that whenever you wanted to use it, it was always dry. For this reason, a couple of years ago they started to think about the problem, and it occurred to them that the important thing was to keep the nib moist and prevent the ink from drying.

Features

Interchangeable German quality nibs (EF,F,M 1.1, 1.4, gold).

Long lasting water reservoir, extremely easy to fill.

Indigraph allows for the use of waterproof inks (like Indian ink).

The Kosmos Ink Literally has a Magnetic Appeal

Known to provide one of the most simple yet sublime experiences, the multiple award-winning Kosmos pen comes back in its latest avatar, with a brand new writing experience and exterior, but with the same heart. The Kosmos Ink follows its predecessors, the Kosmos ballpoint pen, in the fact that it echoes a certain purity that makes it a pleasure to own and write with, being beautiful yet absolutely distraction-free in its aesthetic. Dominated by straight lines, curved hemispherical ends, a characteristic chamfer on two sides, the Kosmos Ink retains its predecessor’s design language, and its heartbeat, the signature click produced by the pen’s magnetic action. The Kosmos Ink comes with a cap that clicks satisfyingly in place when you close it, using a magnetic action to not only hold the cap in place, but to even align it to perfection, providing a joy that one would associate with the opening-closing action of Kosmos’s ballpoint pen.

The cap’s opening and closing action are at the forefront of the pen’s user experience, being so simple and smart that they become the pen’s USP. With zero effort yet maximum satisfaction provided by the clicking sound, the pen’s cap closes securely over the fountain nib. To open, simply twist the cap gently to turn magnetic attraction into repulsion and the cap comes undone on its own. It’s a clever interaction that makes me, as a designer, marvel its simplicity and ingenuity.

The Kosmos Ink comes crafted out of high-quality grade 5 titanium with a grade 6 aluminum variant as well. On the inside lies a writing nib from the renowned German company Peter Bock. The entire pen comes made from top to bottom in metal, with not a single plastic component ‘corrupting’ the pen’s purity and premium appeal. Both the titanium and aluminum variants provide a lightweight and unparalleled writing experience. The titanium comes in its natural color, while the aluminum explores anodized hues like comet grey, rose gold, warp black, and a night sky variant that captures hearts with its rich prussian blue. To match, even the nibs come in color variants, going from steel to titanium, to even a 14K gold variant.

Building on the simplicity and the emotive quality of the Kosmos ballpoint pen, the Kosmos Ink takes stilform’s design ethos and uplifts it, creating a product that is aesthetically minimal, yet heavy on performance, build quality, and the tactile quality your fingers will surely fall in love with. P.S. Make sure you take a look at stilform’s enchanting accessories for the Kosmos Ink, ranging from a leather pouch, to a precision machined metal pen-stand!
