Pampshades, Lamps Made From Real Bread Loaves

Now I know what you’re thinking, and I couldn’t agree more: the wait is finally over. Pampshades (“P” from pan, bread in Japanese, and “ampshade” from lampshade) are lamps made from actual bread loaves. Did anybody else just lick make-believe crumbs from their fingers?

Get ’em while they’re hot! The ingredient list for Pampshades includes strong flour (high gluten content), weak flour (low gluten content), salt, yeast, an LED light, and either a battery pack or an electric adapter. They range in price from around $52 for a petite loaf up to $150 for a full French baguette. But can you really put a price on an emergency bedside snack?

Pampshades are the brainchild of Yukiko Morita, who believes the very sight of bread can make people feel warm, and set out to create a lamp from which “the delicious light of bread gently illuminates you.” I need that. I need the delicious light of bread illuminating me. Unfortunately, if I had a rodent problem before (which I did), I’m really going to have one now.

86,000 square miles of Great Britain meticulously recreated in Minecraft

86,000 square miles of Great Britain meticulously recreated in Minecraft

There are those with free time, and then there's Joseph Braybrook. This fine bloke managed to recreate some 86,000 square miles of Great Britain within the Minecraft universe, and moreover, it took but a fortnight to concoct. Further justifying his work as more than goofing off, he used Ordnance Survey terrain data in the world's construction, leading Graham Dunlop, OS Innovation Lab Manager, to proclaim the following: "We think we may have created the largest Minecraft world ever built based on real-world data." The new universe contains over 22 billion Minecraft blocks, and once players have downloaded the 3.6GB file, they're free to build at will. Just don't go planting any US flags -- that's just downright rude.

This Pretty White Dress is Made Entirely Out of LEGO

LEGO Dress

Designer Rie Hosokai‘s creations are unusual not because of the designs per se, but because of the material that she chooses to work with. Earlier this year, Rie created a white dress made from balloons that was exhibited at the ”Piece for Peace” charity art exhibition held at the Parco Gallery in Tokyo.

The dress was simple enough with its puffy sleeves and balloon skirt made from “knitting” balloons together. Now Rie is back again with the same design but another material. This time, she chose to work with LEGO bricks.

For most people, it’s just a LEGO dress. For Rie, though, it means a whole lot more.

There is fear in that we are all different from one another, but that is also the gateway to self-consciousness.
Self-consciousness was once whole, but in the modern trend where all things whole get broken down,it too is about to get deconstructed.
For that reason, people now seek to reconstruct their consciousness by extending it onto others.
Through this process of extension, we have learned to unravel things down to their basic elements.
We are succeeding at digging up new knowledge of what it is we all share.
This knowledge that bonds different people together seems to appear suddenly, but in reality it is already coded into our planet, our universe.
We construct things from the most basic building blocks.
What are we to discover from this process?
To find the answer, we must continue to turn our gaze toward those around us.

The Chinese Face-Kini: Wrestling, Robberies, and Sun Protection!

The wonderfully innovative country of China has come up with a creation that will surely change the way the world operates!  Now, instead of applying sunscreen to your face, (which is a huge pain), you can protect yourself and look like an axe murderer/criminal/Nacho Libre at the same time!  Who would’a thunk it, am I right?

My first thought: run, and run as fast as my small, stunted legs will carry me.  My second thought: “Man, I thought they were both guys at first.”  But, since my thoughts are generally boring offensive to others, I’m not going to share any more of them.  Not without a price tag, anyway – seems like my thoughts are getting more and more valuable to those around me.  I think of myself as a sort of… wise sage.  “I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.”

The Face-Kini may be kosher in China, but I can guarantee that you’re going to get a few things if you wear this at an American beach: crying children, inquisitive life guards, and a challenge to a wrestling match from La Chalupa Mas Sexy and El Caballo Violente.  Spoiler: you’re going to get your face kicked.

To me, this would easily ruin a good day at the beach.  How?  Everybody’s wearing their fashionable new Face-Kini and I couldn’t fit mine on over the third chin.  Yeah, you didn’t hear?  CHINA OWNS THE WORLD.  You buy what they manufacture, Face-Kini or no Face-Kini.

If you enjoyed the Face-Kini, that’s kind of weird, but you should go check out the Happy Smile Trainer and the Noodle Slicing Robot when you’re ready for another dose.

Samsung intros ‘world’s thinnest’ external DVD writer, tries to convince you to pack it with your tablet

Generally, a new optical disk drive is nothing to write home about, but how about one that's specifically purposed for tablets and Ultrabooks? That's the pitch Samsung is selling for its SE-218BB DVD / CD writer, which the company claims is the world's thinnest external ODD -- because what better to go with your svelte computing devices than more pluggable doohickeys? Cynicism aside, Samsung says this $60 add-on is just 14mm tall, "18 percent thinner than conventional DVD writers" and eight percent less weighty than its standard DVD ODD. The bus-powered unit connects via USB, and it'll work with Macs, PCs and devices running Android 3.1 and up. Oddly fascinated? The drive is currently on sale worldwide if you're willing carry it along with you. You'll find full details in the press release after the break.

This Watch goes Ninja

There’s a brand new cool and cute watch in town, and it goes by the name Ninja Time. This little beast has two “eyes” which show the hour and the minute, while the rest of the watch is dedicated to framing them in a way that looks assuredly ninja in style! The entire casing is made from molded plastic, the dials controlled by the ninja’s “ears” so you can set the time whenever you like.

If there’s a cuter watch in the world than this, please tell us about it – what could be more attractive than a set of ninjas running up your wrist? Have a peek at the color combinations as well – blue eyes for great justice!

A Holy Lamp for Lovers of Illusion

Created with just an LED strip, a ring diffuser, a power source and a mirror on a bit of back support, this is Aureole, a unique lighting solution. You’ll find that what you’ve got here is a halo of light, made whole by the mirror that sits behind a crescent of LEDs. Hang a series of these on your wall and have a lineup of holy rollers in the making.

Ever want to wake up each morning and feel like an angel? Yuxin Han has the solution for you. Of course the Aureole isn’t made specifically for you lovers of the circlet of godly presence, but it does have a rather pointed nickname: “Jesus Lamp.”

And what’s more, this design isn’t just looking great when its all constructed – the components come in such flat pieces that you’d potentially be able to mail this whole project in a flat manilla envelope! That said, you probably wont want to because glass is breakable: USPS won’t like that!
