This Rolling Titanium Ruler is a Great EDC Fidget Tool for the Creatively Inclined!

Back in 2017 when the fidget spinner was all the craze, it was a pretty great reminder of one fact – digital experiences, social media, addictive apps be damned… There was still something incredibly engaging about a tactile spinner. The fidget spinner craze may have died down soon after, but the joy of fidgeting didn’t. As digital as the world grew since then, tactile experiences still reign supreme, whether it’s the clack of a keyboard, the pop of bubble-wrap, the snap of MagSafe accessories, or the sheer ASMR of playing with a fidget toy. The Tiroler builds on that experience by re-imagining the humble scale/ruler as a new kind of EDC-worthy gizmo. Unlike the average scale, the measuring tape, or those ultra-advanced laser measures, the Tiroler prides itself in being incredibly hands-on and having a user-experience centered around fun. The device assumes the shape of a rolling hubless wheel that has a series of markings on it. Roll it along a surface and you can effectively measure its distance by calculating the distance your roller has traveled. The Tiroler emits a series of satisfying clicks every time it completes a rotation, so all you do is count the clicks and read the number on the Tiroler’s window to know the exact measurement you’re looking for. Aside from that undeniably fun experience, the Tiroler is crafted in the image of a gorgeous piece of EDC (Everyday Carry) too. It comes crafted from titanium, with a hubless design that your fingers will love alongside your eyes. When you’re not measuring objects, surfaces, and distances, the Tiroler is a gorgeous toy that you’ll immediately want to fidget with. That’s more than I can say about any other measuring device or app…

“Tiroler is a revolutionary measuring tool designed to break free from the constraints of traditional rulers,” says designer Suzuki Sho. “With its continuous loop design, Tiroler offers limitless measurement possibilities for irregular shapes, curved routes, and extended surfaces.”

The radial design of the scale breaks away from the monotony of linear scales. Not only does this design approach make it more portable than a regular steel or plastic scale, it also makes the process of measuring more fun, and easier to execute on your own, unlike measuring tapes that can sometimes require two people holding each end of the tape.

The Tiroler comes with a gorgeous all-metal design featuring a rolling ring suspended within a hubless outer body. This makes the roller easy to carry around given that its central cavity acts as a big lanyard hole, but also makes it easy to grip by having your thumb and finger nestled within the negative space. Using the roller is easy, fun, and mildly challenging – a window on the rim lets you see the markings on the roller inside. Set it to zero before you begin rolling along the surface you want to measure. Every time the roller completes a revolution, it emits a click that you’ll hear and feel. Count the clicks and multiply it by 10, then add the number you see on the window to get your final measurement. For example, measuring a distance of 24 centimeters would lead to two clicks (20) and a window reading of 4.

The unique format of the Tiroler makes it perfect for organic non-linear measurements. Whether you’re a fashion designer measuring the cut of a garment, an architect or engineer calculating the length of a curved wall, or even a transport/furniture/industrial designer gauging the distance of a curved surface, the Tiroler’s unique format coupled with its pocket-friendly size makes it a perfect tool to have on you at all times. Its gorgeous full-titanium design sets it apart as functional jewelry – you could string it around your neck as a haute pendant, popping it off whenever you need. Conversely, place it in your pocket, stationery kit, or backpack for use later.

The visual beauty of the Tiroler extends to its tactile joy too. The cold metal feels great in the hand, and the polished surfaces on the Tiroler make for a great interplay between light and shadow. This instantly makes your hand want to fidget with the roller, twirling it in your palms, passing your finger through its oculus, and rolling the measuring ‘bezel’ to create that satisfying click sound.

The Tiroler’s grooved rim prevent it from slipping and sliding during use, ensuring an accurate measurement every time.

Given that the world is divided between Imperial and Metric folk, the Tiroler comes in two different sizes. The Metric Tiroler is much more compact, measuring just 31.8mm (1.25 inches) in diameter, while the Imperial Tiroler is significantly larger at 40.4mm (1.59 inches). Strangely enough, the Imperial Tiroler doesn’t count up to 12 inches or a foot. The clicks occur every 5 inches instead (creating a 12-inch Tiroler would make it massive), which does tend to *slightly* complicate things, especially when you have to calculate feet.

The Tiroler ships globally with free shipping to select countries, and a long-lasting guarantee thanks to its durable, non-corrosive titanium construction that should serve you for years if not decades. The Metric Tiroler starts at a discounted $58, while the Imperial Tiroler has a $69 price tag. You can buy both together for $108, and each Tiroler comes with its own bespoke leather carrying case, allowing you to carry and showcase your beautiful jewel-esque measuring instrument with pride!

Heinz designed the perfect roller-squeezer to extract 100% of the ketchup from their sachets

The handly little EDC device comes in the iconic shape of the Heinz ketchup bottle and sports a cutter that slices off a corner of the sachet, and a squeezer that lets you extract every last drop of ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, relish, or hot-sauce from those single-use plastic sachets.

If you’re a bit of a condiment aficionado, the Heinz Packet Sauce Roller might just be the perfect everyday carry. It’s small, straps right to your keychain, and lets you efficiently sauce your burgers, hot dogs, corndogs, or any street/restaurant food that needs smothering in sachet-based sauces/chutneys/gravies.

Using the Heinz Packet Sauce Roller is pretty simple. A slot near the ‘cap’ of the device lets you elegantly slice a corner off so you’re not fiddling with your fingers or teeth to rip open the sachet at the risk of getting ketchup everywhere. The other larger slot lets you slide the sachet in backwards, and the keychain-grip lets you rotate a set of rollers that squeeze every ounce of sauce from within the packet, reducing wastage and increasing sauce-age.

For a price of $5.70 I’d go ahead and argue that this product is really a nifty little marketing gimmick that you could probably buy if you really wanted to show off to your friends, although you’d just be better off skipping it. It would be nice if the folks at Heinz chucked in a bottle opener too, or made the slot wider so I could use the roller with toothpaste tubes as well (like Alessi’s toothpaste-squeezing buckle)… but all-in-all, it’s just a quirky little gizmo that has comic appeal more than anything else.

Heinz Packet Roller Extracts Every Drop of Precious Ketchup

Ketchup: according to my dad it belongs on everything. He’s such a fan he’s thoroughly convinced potato chips were only invented as a vehicle to transport ketchup from a plate to a person’s mouth without making a mess. And now you can extract every precious drop of tomatoey goodness from a ketchup packet thanks to the Heinz Packet Roller keychain attachment. Fingers crossed it also works with Taco Bell Fire Sauce packets!

Operating like the similarly designed rollers for tubes of toothpaste, you just rip the end off a ketchup packet and roll it through the device, resting easy knowing you extracted every bit of ketchup possible. Waste not, want not – that’s my motto.

It’s the golden era of condiment packet extraction! These are truly exciting times we’re living in. Especially considering fast food restaurants regularly try to shortchange me in the packeted condiments department. At least I’ll know I made the most of what they did give me. Plus, now wait a minute, they forgot my nuggets!

An airline pilot designed the world’s most efficient travel luggage

Necessity is perhaps the best sort of design brief. If you want to solve a problem, ask for insights for someone plagued by the problem the most. In 1987, Robert Plath, a Northwest Airlines pilot revolutionized how we travel by simply adding a pair of wheels to his luggage. Decades later, strolleys are practically a norm, and anyone who physically lifts heavy bags is looked at as a luddite. If you want to innovate and create the best sort of luggage for travel, the best way is to talk to someone who literally travels every single day…

If anyone were to know the pain-points of traveling with suitcases, it would be Ethan Fischer. A seasoned airline pilot and entrepreneur, Fischer’s entire profession involves living out of a suitcase, so needless to say, he’s got a few insights on how travel cases should function. Fischer’s journey to designing the world’s most efficient travel luggage stems from the same sense of necessity Robert Plath felt when he sought to add wheels to the bottom of his suitcase. After years of development, and decades of having first-hand experience with badly designed travel bags, Fischer designed the Helix Pro Roller, travel-case that’s practical and strong enough to take the daily abuse of being used by flight-crew. By optimizing the bag to serve the 95th percentile, Fischer’s bag actually outperforms almost every other travel bag when it comes to functionality.

What forms the core of the Helix Pro Roller is its unique handle, an ergonomically designed grip with two-axis rotation and a carbon-fiber tube. This swiveling grip gives you a much more secure and comfortable hold on the bag, allowing you to pull it around without straining your wrist or fumbling with your bag. The two points of rotation allow you to grip the handle naturally, minimizing the load and helping you carry your luggage through the airport every day without feeling the stress of the travel. The bag comes with reinforced wheels too that Fischer claims lives up to the StrongBags brand. Described as the toughest wheels to be used on travel bags, these work wonderfully smoothly on flat surfaces, and absorb shock on rough terrain. In fact, the wheels are actually fashioned from the ones found on inline skates, so you could casually wheel the bag down a flight of stairs and the wheels would actually absorb a majority of the shock, keeping your belongings safe. They sit within a removable housing too, making them easy to periodically clean or even repair and replace.

The Helix Pro Roller was designed to literally be the Nokia 3310 of travel cases… user-friendly, ubiquitous, and practically indestructible. Created keeping flight-crew in mind, the travel case comes with a durable, waterproof, ballistic-proof CORDURA fabric exterior and is reinforced by a polycarbonate case on the inside. The polycarbonate endoskeleton is what gives the Helix Pro its unmatchable durability. Strong enough to take on any sort of impact, and sturdy enough that you could sit comfortably on your suitcase if there isn’t a seat available, the Helix Pro’s case comes rigorously tested to take you through the most hectic of schedules. This hard-case may give the bag limited non-expandable storage, but Fischer solves that by building J-hooks right into the front panel of the bag, letting you hang more bags from it, just the way flight-crew and pilots do. In the pursuit of durability, the bags come with long-lasting high-grade YKK zippers, and are designed to be completely repairable from top to bottom. Designed and perfected for air travel, the bags are appropriately sized to store your belongings and at the same time, fit right into in-cabin overhead compartments. Tried and tested not just by Fischer himself but also by various flight crew working both domestically and internationally who travel every single day and live right out of their travel cases, the Helix Pro Roller is long-lasting user-friendly design done right!

Transforming toys that grow with your children!

Designed to guide your child through their formative years of physical development and acquiring of motor skills, the Luma Rock & Roller is a fun, innovative toy that transforms from a rocker, to a walker, and then to a roller. At its base lies its ingenious wheel-flipping mechanism that, with a simple flip-and-fasten, allows the Rock & Roller from being a rocking-horse to a toy with wheels.

As children grow, they require new toys to match their level of learning and playing. The Rock & Roller, rather than being a toy that gets discarded after a year, grows right with the children, adapting to their needs. Designed to be played with from ages 9 months to 4 years, the Luma Rock & Roller serves first as a rocking-toy, entertaining children with its rocking motion but also developing them with balancing skills and an understanding of center-of-gravity. Once the child nears the age where they begin walking, the Rock & Roller’s rocking base flips 180° and the toy turns into a walker, allowing them to sit on the Rock & Roller and walk around aided by the wheels at the base. As the child grows in height, the Rock & Roller goes from being a walker, to being a roller-cart, allowing them to push their toys or siblings around, via a handle at the back.

Designer Dzuy Linh created the Luma Rock & Roller specifically to be the long-lasting tech-free toy that acts as a child’s foundation for learning and growing. The Rock & Roller is, for that reason, designed to be durable, and last long, but at the same time also be eco-friendly, and as its designer Dzuy Linh points out, it has the minimum use of plastic in its construction. The Rock & Roller is built meticulously in Los Angeles, California. Fashioned from all-natural Baltic Birchwood, the individual pieces are CNC machined and then sanded, finished, and assembled by hand. The wheels are adjustable to roll faster or slower, depending on the child’s (and parent’s) needs, and have a durometer rating of 89a, much like the wheels you’d find on most good skateboards. The Rock & Roller was specifically designed to be a playful toy that is, at its heart, durable and natural. Not using any plastic in the construction of the Rock & Roller’s body, Linh’s focus is on building a toy that will last a child for as long as it wants, and even skip into the next generation (like good furniture), but should you choose to discard it, the Rock & Roller will have no negative impact on the environment.

Designed to go from a toy the child plays on, to the toy a child plays with, the Luma Rock & Roller rocks, rolls, and transports. Aside from the seat on the top, the Rock & Roller even comes with a lower shelf that stores toys, functioning as both a pushcart when in motion, or a shelf when stationary!

The Rock & Roller is the most brilliant 3-in-1 rocker for kids! The eco-friendly rocker, walker, and roller converts between rocker and roller in seconds.

Designed for 9 months to 4 year olds, it first starts out as a rocker to help develop gross motor and balancing skills. As the child starts walking, it becomes a push walker to help with steady, evenly paced steps. After walking has been mastered, it becomes a ride-on roller car to sit on and push – either by someone else or with their own legs.

The Rock & Roller is designed to quickly and easily switch back and forth between roller and rocker mode. Unscrew the locks, flip it over, and lock it back into place. It uses a locking screw on both sides for additional safety and avoids any accidental unlocking. The design is patent-pending.

Their all-natural hardwood baltic birch is as good as it gets. It provides incredible strength and durability and critically important to them, it’s not plastic. The wheels are adjustable to roll faster or slower, depending on the child’s needs. They feature ball bearing hubs with a wheel durometer rating of 89a for a long-lasting, sturdy ride.

Has a built-in shelf to store and transport their favorite toys as well!

iKoroKoro Screen Cleaning Roller

The roller might be one of the most efficient ways to apply paint to walls so perhaps it also works as a gadget screen cleaner too. The iKoroKoro (from Japan if you couldn’t figure it out from the name) cleans fingerprints and smudges off your touchscreen devices by just rolling over it. Is it better than just using a cloth? Who knows, but it’s certainly looks like more work and more fun. I guess that’s just how they “roll” in Japan. (via akihabara)

Colocolo Tablet Cleaner Rolls iPads Clean

Do you constantly get greasy fingerprints all over the screen of your shiny glass tablet? If you’re like me, you probably just wipe it off with your shirt sleeve or maybe an eyeglass cleaning cloth. But if you’re looking for something that’s designed specifically for the task, then check out the Colocolo tablet cleaner.

colocolo tablet cleaner a

Looking like one of those masking tape lint rollers your use to remove pet hair, or maybe a Schticky, you roll the Colocolo across the screen of your tablet to remove dirt, grime and fingerprints. The sticky tape surface on the Colocolo is said to work for about 500 cleanings before you need to buy a refill, and is specially designed to mop up oils from fingerprints.

colocolo tablet cleaner

If your shirt sleeve isn’t doing the trick, you can order the Colocolo over at Gizmine for $29.99(USD), though if you happen to live in Japan, it can be had for ¥1260 ($16 USD), and refills sell for ¥525 (~$7 USD). It comes in three colors, white, black and pink, making you wonder why all lint rollers don’t offer color choices.

A colocolo, by the way, is a small spotted and striped cat native to the west Andean slope in central and northern Chile, so the name makes perfect sense, no? Not unless there’s a cat included in the box that’ll lick your tablet’s screen clean.
