This Flat-panel 350W Guitar Amp is actually thinner than most guitars…

It’s thinner than a Harry Potter or Game of Thrones novel… if we’re still using those benchmarks to compare things these days.

At NAMM 2024, Eminent Technology recently debuted the Model Twenty Two, a groundbreaking flat-panel active guitar speaker, marking a significant advancement from its predecessor, the Model Twenty. This new model is distinguished by its compact size, measuring 16 x 22 inches, boasting a thickness of just under 5 inches, and a lightweight design at just 16.5 pounds, making it highly portable for musicians on the go. It’s not just its slim profile that’s impressive; the Model Twenty Two boasts a powerful 350-watt built-in amplifier, capable of catering to a variety of audio sources like guitars, vocals, and keyboards.

Designer: Eminent Technology

This innovative speaker combines the functionalities of an amplifier and speaker in one sleek package. It is equipped with a full-range, flat response (FRFR) speaker capability, allowing it to handle different guitar amp modeling units and even serve as a small PA system with an output of up to 120 decibels. For added versatility, it includes a high-headroom clean preamp and a cab voice, suitable for both acoustic and electric guitars, as well as for use with external amp models. You can even run vocals, keyboards, or a CD player through it, effectively treating it like a super-sleek PA system that outputs up to an impressive 120 decibels.

Despite its high-end features, the Model Twenty Two is more affordable than its predecessor, priced at $1,699. That may be a lot, but think of how easy it is to carry around!

Ridiculously portable guitar amp comes with app support that lets you choose from over 50,000 tones

Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, the Spark Go from Positive Grid lets you jam with no strings attached, or maybe just one string – the guitar amp cable! The portable amplifier is perfect to carry around with you and comes with app support that lets you choose from over 50,000 tones including 33 amp models, and 43 effects and pedals. The app also goes above and beyond, with AI features including Auto Chords, and a Smart Jam feature that has a set of drums assist you as you play. Meanwhile, the tiny amp stands at just 3.5 inches high, with a brass-embellished aesthetic that matches classic amp designs, and a battery that gives you 8 full hours of jamming on a single charge. You know how they say Bigger is Better? They’re clearly wrong.

Designer: Positive Grid

The Spark Go cleverly shrinks down the large, clunky guitar amp down to a perfectly portable size, while maintaining the feature set most fickle-minded guitarists tend to demand from their gear. The compact design is perfect for jamming on the go, and even supports a ‘travel mode’ where you plug a pair of headphones in and jam directly into your ears. For more traditional jamming, however, the audio driver and passive radiator built into the Spark Go provide a “surprisingly big, full sound”, according to maker Positive Grid, thanks to computational adjustments to the audio signal to provide a larger-than-life audio effect.

While the portable size is surely impressive, Spark Go’s companion app is truly its secret sauce. With over 50,000 tones to choose from, the tiny speaker suddenly becomes a bastion of versatility, letting you customize your sound without needing massive effects racks with thousands of dollars of equipment. The app gives you access to 33 different amp models and lets you layer on multiple effects and pedals to digitally mold your sound. The app goes above and beyond too with an AI-powered Smart Jam feature that has accompanying music join in with your guitar as you play, and the ability to sync to your Spotify and Apple Music to generate Auto Chords for you to play along with your favorite song.

The amp comes with a removable bumper-sleeve with a faux-leather texture and a hardshell grille on the front that really makes it look the part. Brass detailing on the buttons, the volume knob, and the quarter-inch jack input really make the Spark Go look like a true blue guitar accessory, and that leather strap on the side makes it easy to carry your amp around with you. Each Spark Go comes equipped with a battery that gives you 8 hours of jamming on a full charge, along with the ability to juice your speaker via a USB-C port on the device. Positive Grid is currently accepting early signups for people interested in buying the Spark Go, with a discounted $109 price tag for people who sign up. The speaker will then be priced at $149 for regular consumers.

This electric guitar accessory lets you wirelessly listen to your guitar through your TWS earbuds

Bypassing the amplifier, effect pedal, and pretty much any other conceivable gear associated with electric guitars, the Jack is a tiny device that allows you to connect your electric guitar to other devices via Bluetooth. Touted as a ‘wireless guitar headphone amplifier’, all you have to do is plug Jack into your guitar and it suddenly interfaces with your phone as well as your TWS earbuds, allowing you to play directly into your own ear as you would with a pair of studio monitor headphones… except this hardware is entirely wireless, and compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand.

Designer: Studio Elk

The Jack managed to secure a Red Dot Design Concept Award in 2020 for its clever and compact design. Most smartphones have the ability to process signals from an electric guitar, and the Jack relies on this to bypass the traditional massive amplifier that you see most electric guitars connected to. The Jack’s main piece of hardware is this unit that plugs into the 3/4th-inch audio socket of an electric guitar, basically powering it and sending the electrical signals to the smartphone to interpret.

The smartphone app is where all the magic happens, essentially. Signals from the Jack are sent to the phone, where an app decodes them, turning them into music. You can edit the signal by adding virtual amps and filters to modulate the sound, doing basically what actual gear would do, but instead through software. Finally, the end product plays either on your phone or through TWS earbuds that you place in your ear. This way, you can jam in your own head without having everyone around you listening in on your music (or your neighbors getting perturbed). The Jack’s entirely wireless design means you can just about jam anywhere you want, at home, in a cafe, on the subway, heck… even in an airplane. Your co-passengers may not appreciate having the guitar invading their personal space, though!
