Tiny homes are meant to be tiny, and we’ve seen a whole bunch of truly compact homes over the years, but we’ve finally come across the ‘world’s smallest tiny home’. Designed by Levi Kelly, this super tiny home occupies around 19.4 sq ft. It is based on a single-axle trailer that was picked up from a truck. It is equipped with jacks for support and stability when not on the move. The home is extraordinarily compact and displays a pretty clever space-saving design. The tiny home is made up of a stick frame structure, and a painted cedar exterior, topped with roof shingles.

The interior of the home includes one room, and it is quite snug and comfortable. The entrance leads you to a bench seating area that can hold three people. It is equipped with integrated storage and an air-conditioning heating and cooling unit. The kitchen is quite simple with water tanks for freshwater and greywater, a filter and a pump system, as well as a water heater. It also includes a mini-fridge for drinks or food items. An electric cooktop is accommodated in a drawer when not in use. The sink features a folding tap, and a cutting board insert covers it when not in use. These little details make for excellent space-saving solutions in such a compact home.

The bedroom comprises a fold-down bed which is a bit uncomfortable to access. It is equipped with hooks to hold it up in the ceiling, but the resident will need to step on the kitchen countertop and climb onto the bed, which isn’t the most comfortable feat. The bathroom is divided into two sections – the front-facing wall near the entrance contains the outdoor shower, while the back wall features a storage box with a small camping-style toilet. The box could be taken into the home if privacy was needed.

The world’s smallest tiny home is powered by two roof-based solar panels that are connected to a battery to provide juice through the night. The budget for this tiny home was US$5,000, making it pretty economical. The designer owned the trailer, and did all the work himself, ensuring costs were kept low.

Toy Storey, designed by Wallmakers in Kerala, India, is a circular home that ingeniously repurposes around 6,200 discarded toys as structural and decorative elements. The residence features a striking facade that integrates compressed stabilized earth blocks (CSEB), Mangalore tiles, and recycled toys in rich earthy tones. Its circular layout, central courtyard, and composite CSEB-Toy Jaali wall enhance ventilation and insulation, while a basement adds functional living space. Toy Storey blends tradition with modernity and challenges conventional architecture and consumption, celebrating sustainability and creativity with a nod to childhood nostalgia and environmental awareness.

The home’s three triangular roofs complement the mountainous backdrop, while its warm, minimalistic design offers a tranquil, Japanese-inspired living experience.

The KURVE furniture collection maximizes space with minimalist, curved plywood designs that combine aesthetics with functionality. The KURVE chair features a backless, curved base made from a single sheet of plywood, while the KURVE Couch includes a central console and extra storage underneath. The KURVE Night Stand, also a trapezoid, offers additional storage with a drawer positioned below the top. Each piece cleverly integrates storage into its design without complex mechanisms.

This School In India With An Undulating Green Roof & Sunken Courtyard Is A Relief From Boxy Classrooms

Tucked away in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India is ‘Cocoon’ – the pre-primary extension of the Bloomingdale International School. This 4000 sqft extension is designed by andblack design studio, and it truly stands apart from the main school building owing to its unique form, and unconventional structure. It features a sunken courtyard that mimics the area’s natural landscape. It flows towards the structure like a hill and serves as a versatile space – ranging from a playground to an amphitheater or classroom. This unique project merges the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, forming an interesting and engaging learning environment, that is a relief from the boxy classrooms.

The design studio focused on building free-flowing and interconnected spaces that allow students to move about and interact with one another, and the natural environment. Full-height glass panels and skylights make the extension a fluid and light-filled space, allowing the interiors to merge with the surrounding landscape. Besides the sunken courtyard, the project also features an interesting undulating roof. The roof is inspired by natural forms like waves or hills, and it seems to move like them too. It allows the building to be at one with the landscape, creating the impression that it serves as “a form of the landscape in itself”. The roof is covered with turf, and it is supported by a fluid structure that doesn’t include any partitions.

The studio didn’t employ any bright and vivid colors, instead, the form of the structure is the star attraction. The inclusion of turf enhances the building’s connection with the landscape, forming an endearing environment for the children, where they are freely allowed to play and explore. The material palette is simple and minimal, accentuated by the use of prefabricated elements and exposed structural components.

Since prefabricated elements were used to construct the building, the assembly was a simple and cost-effective process. The core of the roof was assembled onsite using prefab metal sections, and concise construction techniques. Built-up beams were assembled at different heights to achieve the building’s curved form. The ceiling is exposed from within, creating a lovely contrast against the green roof. Natural light streams in through the skylight, creating a visual effect that is soothing and almost relaxing. The Cocoon is an excellent effort to build innovative educational buildings, wherein schools are redefined to create seamless and playful spaces that support creativity, learning, and exploration.

This Little Timber Home In Rural Portugal Is An Off-The-Grid Forest Escape For A Family Of Four

In this tiny home-populated world, Portugal’s Madeiguincho has designed something different and unique with its wooden model – the Atlanta. Madeiguincho is known for its wooden tiny homes that showcase the expertise of its experienced carpenters, and Atlanta follows suit with this legacy. The Atlanta tiny home is designed for a family of four, allowing them to move away from the noise of the city, and spend some time in nature. It features a length of 23 feet, with a porch area that extends the living space. The porch area has a ramp for access. The home is equipped with generous glazing and some shutters. Drop-down tables have been incorporated outside the kitchen to allow residents to dine outside under the stars.

As you enter the home, you are welcomed by a space finished with timber and play. The interior is cozy, light-filled, and quite appealing. You enter the living room through double glass doors, and this space includes a sofa, a tiny wood-burning stove for the winter, and a ceiling fan for the summer. The kitchen is located nearby, and it includes a breakfast bar for two, cabinetry, and plenty of shelving. A two-burner propane-powered stove and sink have also been integrated. We cant see a fridge/freezer and an over, but we’re sure they have been incorporated somewhere, as this is intended to be a full-time home for a family.

The kitchen leads to the bathroom which is equipped with a sink, shower, a composting toilet, as well as a glass door that allows access into the home. Curtains have been added for privacy. This second entrance isn’t very usual, but Madeiguincho has installed second entrances in their bathrooms before too. The other end of the home includes the bathroom, and it seems cozy with a double bed and built-in storage.

The Atlantica includes two other loft-style bedrooms. One bedroom is placed above the bathroom and can be entered through a fixed wooden ladder. This bedroom is topped with a skylight and can accommodate a double bed. The second loft-style bedroom is perched above the ground-floor master bedroom and can be accessed through a removable ladder. This space also includes a double bed, but no skylight. Although, both bedrooms are incorporated with porthole-style windows. The lovely little tiny home is tucked away somewhere in rural Portugal, in a pine forest. It is powered by a roof-based solar panel array that is attached to batteries.

London’s Newest Passenger-Centric Train Network Wins The 2024 RIBA Stirling Award

London’s Elizabeth Line rail transport network was recently named the winner of the 2024 Stirling Prize by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). It is the UK’s most prestigious architecture award, and the rail transport network won it for its passenger-centric philosophy, and its incredible engineering achievement. It was initially called the Crossrail but was renamed in honor of the late Queen Elizabeth II. It was designed by Grimshaw, Maynard, Equation, and AtkinsRéalis. The line connects Reading and Heathrow to Essex and South East London. It holds around 700,000 passengers every weekday.

The line includes almost 62 miles of track and 26 miles of tunnels. While constructing the line, a bunch of historical artifacts were discovered – ranging from a Tudor bowling bowl to a prehistoric wooly mammoth. Around 6 million tonnes of earth was dug out to make space for the tunnels. The enormous amount of earth was transported to Essex and repurposed to build a new natural reserve. Passengers have been offered easy access from one platform to another by incorporating curving fluid lines. These guide them to the different sections of the stations, while the lighting moves between cool and warm tones, to relax them, and reduce the stress of family commute. However, according to BBC, passengers have had issues with overcrowding, delays, and some injuries. The construction of the line is also pretty over budget.

“The Elizabeth Line is a triumph in architect-led collaboration, offering a flawless, efficient, beautifully choreographed solution to inner-city transport,” said Muyiwa Oki, RIBA President and Jury Chair. “It’s an uncluttered canvas that incorporates a slick suite of architectural components to create a consistent, line-wide identity – through which thousands of daily passengers navigate with ease. Descending into the colossal network of tunnels feels like entering a portal to the future, where the typical commuter chaos is transformed into an effortless experience. This is architecture of the digital age – a vast scheme that utilizes cutting-edge technology to create distinctive spatial characteristics and experiences. It rewrites the rules of accessible public transport, and sets a bold new standard for civic infrastructure, opening up the network and by extension, London, to everyone.”

The line was announced as the 28th annual winner of the RIBA Stirling Prize at a special ceremony in London on October 16th.

This Custom Built Tiny Home Maximizes Available Space To Sleep Seven People

Movable Roots designed the Elmore, a 42-foot-long and 8-ft-6-inch-wide customized bumper-pull RV. It is intended to be a home away from home. The tiny house features two entrances, one with a screened-off porch with the ability to accommodate a couple of patio chairs. As you enter the house, you are welcomed by the kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with a stacking washer/dryer combo, next to a fridge with a bottom pull-out freezer. Movable Roots tried to utilize the space available completely, ensuring no area was left unused. Even the stair leading to the loft placed above the kitchen is integrated with custom drawers.

The opposite wall of the kitchen is equipped with a full-size sink and loads of counter space. Windows adorn the space, which may be difficult to clean and maintain, but they do allow a lot of natural light into the space. The windows are openable, allowing fresh air into the space, and refreshing the interior environment. The living room isn’t the largest, but it can fit a L-shaped couch. It is comfortable and cozy, and a mini-split system is perched on a well-insulated wall, ensuring that the home’s temperature can be regulated irrespective of the temperature outside.

An interestingly-designed staircase leads you to one of the lofts in the tiny home. It is placed at the front and is smaller than the other bedroom, and it is also more easily accessible. The bedroom is equipped with clever in-wall storage which saves quite a bit of space and adds a visually appealing element to the room. A custom sliding barn door offers privacy to the room. The second rear loft is above the room, and can only be entered via a custom wooden ladder. It is quite huge and can hold three twin-sized beds. While the front loft can accommodate a queen bed.

The home includes four mini-split systems in total, and they are all plumbed to a single condenser placed at the rear of the RV. A water hose connection offers fresh water, and the home is powered by an RV-style 50-amp service. The custom-built RV occupies around 500 sq ft and can sleep seven people, and it is priced at around US$225,000.

MAD Designs An Incredible High-Rise Featuring A Facade With A Walk-Through ‘Canyon’ Area

Tucked away in Colorado and designed by MAD Architects, the One River North is an incredible new residential building that was initially revealed back in 2021. The structure features a height of 216 ft and is equipped with 16 floors. It is inspired by its surrounding landscape and features an impressive facade that is cracked open to showcase the “Canyon” area, where residents can walk along a mountain trail. The facade is the focal point of the building, and it seems like an earthquake-created fissure in the structure. This facade includes an outdoor trail walking area, a fitness area, a walking area, and multipurpose rooms.

“The soft surfaces of the Canyon – a carved-out, four-story amenity space inspired by natural erosion and designed to evoke a slot canyon, were designed by MAD to contrast the clean geometric lines of the building’s massing,” said MAD. “This feature includes over 13,000 square feet [around 1,200 sq m] of landscaped terraces that appear to hang in open space, offering some of the city’s most breathtaking views, along with water elements that foster a strong connection between residents and the natural environment. The canyon-like structure running through the facade creates an immersive, natural experience, merging indoor and outdoor spaces and blurring the boundaries between nature and architecture.”

The interior of One River North comprises 187 rental homes, which vary from one bedroom to three bedrooms. The homes range from 625 sq ft to 2,500 sq ft, and the building also includes ground-floor retail space. The materials used in the exterior have been maintained in the interior, to create a seamless transition, where the indoor and outdoor sections seem blurred. Elements of green have been continued into the inside as well. The building boasts an amazing alpine-inspired rooftop terrace, amped with a pool, spa, and garden. The terrace provides splendid views of the Rocky Mountains and the Denver skyline.

MAD is known for its unique and unusual architectural designs that are visually fascinating, and often adopt innovative design philosophies and approaches. The One River North is another feather on its cap, with its one-of-a-kind facade that truly takes the cake, with its innovative canyon-like form.

Passive and traditional Uzbek architecture to be used to create International Research Center

When creating structures in areas that are naturally hot and may have extreme weather conditions, ventilation and cooling systems are major priorities for the architects. It doesn’t always require the latest technology but the really smart and inventive firms are able to incorporate important design principles as well as the local architectural styles.

Zara Hadid Architects is of course one of the leading and award-winning firms that can do just that. Their design for the Alisher Navoi International Research Center is able to use passive design principles so that the space will use minimum energy corporation but still give its staff and visitors optimal and comfortable conditions. The center will have the Navoi Museum of Literature, a 400-seat auditorium, a residential school for 200 students, and of course the International Research Centre.

The facades and interiors will use bricks that are crafted from Tashkent’s local kilns and using the curvilinear geometries from traditional Uzbek architecture. There will also be several courtyards to bring natural light and ventilation while creating spaces for both group gathering and private contemplation. The arches are designed as hollow structures with openings for cooling ventilation which create a pressure gradient to extract hot air upwards. During hot seasons, it will be supported by fans and misting to cool the air first.

The centre is designed to have interconnected spaces to create dialogue between literary education, research, and the performin arts. The 23,000 square meter is named after Alisher Navoi, a 15th century Uzbek poet, aithor, linguist, and statesman. So it’s but apt to create a space that uses as much traditional aspects as it can.

This Beautiful Lodging In The Amazonian Rainforest Is Built Around A Pigüe Tree

Tucked away in the Amazonian rainforest of Ecuador is a tiny cabin called ‘A Lodging in the Pigüe’. Occupying 484-sq-ft, the cabin represents a surreal connection between nature and architecture. It was designed while taking into consideration a pre-existing Pigüe tree. The structure artfully rises around the tree, co-existing with it in peace, without disrupting it. It is located near El Calvario, and and is built using an elegant mix of industrial and organic materials. The home draws inspiration from tree houses, and it is supported by a series of stilts. The stilts have been made from recycled oil industry metal pipes, and they elevate the home above the forest floor.

Designer: Mestizo Estudio Arquitectura

Since the home is elevated on stilts, it provides the feeling of floating on the forest canopy, offering a calm and floating sanctuary among the trees. This innovative design protects against moisture and also protects the natural water sources in the area. This also supports the regeneration of vegetation below the building. The elevated design also supports the installation of bio-filters for wastewater treatment. There is some doubt on how well the pipes will handle the area’s intense weather conditions.

Since the home is integrated with a living Pigüe tree, it adds a unique element to it. The tree serves as a living element of the home. The interior features a warm and earthy aesthetic. The walls have been made using gabions, and they are filled with locally sourced broken stones. The remaining section of the home is made using locally sourced bamboo, wood, and polished timber floors. Bamboo is an excellent material of choice since it is strong and flexible. The bamboo combines with the steel panels on the roof to provide protection from the intense winds and rain which are typical in the Amazon area.

The tiny home includes a lovely outdoor terrace which replaces the traditional living room. The terrace is placed next to a net balcony, which is elevated above the forest. A massive master bedroom is equipped with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which allow the occupants to feel relaxed amidst nature. The home also includes a compact nature, a fully equipped bathroom, and a beautiful semi-outdoor shower.

This Little Geodesic Dome Is The World’s First Pentakis Dodecahedron (60-Sided) Tiny Home

Called the Mini Dome, this is the world’s first pentakis dodecahedron (60-sided) tiny home. It is a geodesic dome home that has been created to maximize the limited space, serving as a unique vacation rental. The pint-sized little house will be available for sale in bare hub kit form too. Geodesic domes were initially popularized by the architect Buckminster Fuller, and they comprise interconnected triangles. The domes are often preferred by hobbyists for greenhouses and eco-homes. This little dome was designed by Dodeca Domes’ Joshua Tulberg, and it includes a welded steel hub and wooden struts. It is supported by an elevated pier and beam foundation and also features great insulation.

The interior of the dome occupies around 308 sq ft, and it spans over two floors. It has a pretty open layout, with a front door leading to the main living area. The living area is equipped with triangular windows, and the interior of the home is pretty attractive with a unique shape. The layout is cleverly designed to accommodate the curving walls, and it contains a sofa bed and a dining table for two people. A central section functions as the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. It also includes a TV. The kitchen is amped with a fridge/freezer, sink, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and some cabinetry. While the bathroom includes a shower and a toilet.

The bedroom can be accessed via a space-saving spiral staircase, and it is essentially a simple mezzanine with a queen-sized bed. There is plenty of space to stand upright as well. The Mini Dome is up for rent on Airbnb, and Tulberg is planning to sell the bare hub kit for US$15,000 in 2025.
