DAB Motors’ DeLorean themed e-bike transports you Back To The Future

DAB Motors has rapidly evolved into a niche electric motorbike company that values its French roots. Having numerous takers for their DAB 1α, the outfit has created bold iterations of the acclaimed bike first as a Paris Olympics-themed ride, and more recently as an eye-popping transparent e-bike inspired by the retro gaming consoles.

Just when we thought the French motorhead studio would take a breather, there’s another surprise that’ll garner many more fanatics for the DAB 1α. Draped in a stainless steel body frame, this DeLorean DMC-12-inspired motorbike carries the industrial design influence of a café racer, and of course the retro charm of the timeless DeLorean!

Designer: DAB Motors Custom Studio

November 5 is chosen as the release of this two-wheeler, since this is the day depicted in the flick when time travel was first tested. The custom motorbike is flush with every possible element of the Back to the Future movie and DMC-12’s visual aesthetics. The CNC-machined rims and the vents are classic DeLorean with an ‘OUTTATIME’ license plate taking you back in time. The speedometer on this one-off DAB 1α is capped at 88 mph, exactly the speed for future time travel shown in the movie. A dummy flux capacitor built into the chassis gives it a pure industrial look, elevating its retro charm. To extend the realism, this DAB 1α is paired with a classic skateboard and P-cap, both in peppy colors.

As Simon Dabadie, founder of DAB Motors rightly puts it, “Growing up in the ’90s, cinema introduced me to icons that shaped my imagination. The DeLorean DMC-12, for example, stood out as more than a car — it was a vision of bold design and innovation.” We second that completely as DeLorean has been more than just another classic car that’s admired for a design way ahead of its time. He further adds, “This new bike is an ideal canvas to showcase DAB Motors’ commitment to creativity and craftsmanship, blending technical skill with bold, boundary-pushing design. Just as the DMC-12 redefined automotive aesthetics, this model captures DAB’s innovative spirit, honoring the future shaped by past icons.”

If you are already having daydreams of buying this Back to the Future-inspired bike and parking it alongside your prized DeLorean, hold your horses as it is limited to just one piece. The next best option is to go for the regular DAB 1α and get a trusted auto tuner shop to get the DeLorean-inspired look.

DAB Motors unveils Transparent E-bike inspired by Retro Gaming Consoles like the Nintendo 64

Back in the ’90s, transparency became a cool trend in tech, particularly with gaming consoles. Anyone remember the clear plastic of the Nintendo 64 controllers or the transparent Game Boy Color and Advance? Those see-through designs let you peek into the gadget’s inner workings, blending functionality with a futuristic aesthetic, and paving the way for Apple’s gorgeous iMacs and MacBooks, followed by Nothing’s transparent tech that has revisited the retro trend in its own unique way. Fast forward to today, and the French electric motorcycle maker DAB Motors (a Peugeot sub-brand) has captured that retro spirit in its stunning DAB 1α Transparent Edition. This motorcycle, though a far cry from gaming consoles, channels that same nostalgic vibe with modern elegance. It feels like it could have come straight out of an arcade racing game—if those games had ever been this sleek.

Designer: DAB Motors

DAB Motors’ 1α Transparent Edition is all about turning heads, and its translucent bodywork is the ultimate conversation starter. The bike’s frame and design are partially see-through, offering a glimpse at its high-tech components—reminiscent of those old gaming consoles where you could see the wires, circuits, and chips. This visual transparency gives the bike a light, almost futuristic vibe that pairs beautifully with the carbon fiber parts made from repurposed Airbus materials. Yes, you read that right—Airbus.

Beyond the cool see-through aspects, the 1α stays grounded with modern touches, like an Alcantara saddle for comfort and a sharp monobloc LED tail light that’s both translucent and futuristic. The front-end design isn’t shy either, featuring a 2.8-inch integrated LCD dashboard and a lenticular headlight that’ll look right at home whether you’re cruising through city streets or zooming down a highway.

Under the clear, see-through hood, a 25.5 kW brushless DC motor powers this electric motorcycle, allowing it to reach a top speed of 130 km/h (81 mph). With a torque output of 395 Nm at the wheel, this machine has more pull than many electric cars. The 150 km range is powered by a 72V Li-Ion battery that’s designed to be both repairable and recyclable.

DAB didn’t skimp on convenience either. The bike comes with an onboard charger that works with both home sockets and Type 2 charging stations, offering a full charge in just 3 hours. That’s right—no lengthy overnight charging sessions here. In terms of customization, the DAB 1α offers four ride modes: Eco, Standard, Sport, and a fun Nitrous Boost mode for when you really want to feel the power surge. It even has a reverse mode to help with tight parking situations, which can come in handy, especially for urban riders.

The steel double cradle frame ensures that the bike remains both sturdy and lightweight, tipping the scales at just 125 kg. For suspension, DAB teamed up with Paioli to equip the bike with a 46mm adjustable USD fork at the front and a spring preload adjustable rear—both offering a smooth, responsive ride. And let’s not forget those Brembo radial brakes with dual ABS for stopping power that inspires confidence whether you’re riding in the rain or dry conditions. The wheels on this transparent beauty are custom-made by DAB x FABA, paired with Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 tires that are designed for performance and grip. Whether you’re navigating tight city streets or open highways, the wheels (17-inch front and rear) ensure excellent control and stability.

For all this innovation and style, the DAB 1α Transparent Edition starts at €14,900 ($16,651 USD) – and only 400 units will be made. If you’re already daydreaming about pulling up to your local café on this retro-inspired machine, you might want to act fast. Financing options are available, but once these limited editions are gone, they’re gone. And with worldwide delivery, it doesn’t matter where you are—you can still channel your inner gamer while cruising through the streets on this eye-catching piece of machinery.

Paris Olympics themed limited edition e-bikes by DAB Motors spice-up the highly competitive market

Paris 2024 Olympics is nearing the penultimate stage, as the US and China again dominate the prized spots. Perhaps the perfect time for DAB Motors to release their Olympics-themed DAB 1α electric motorbikes. This Peugeot Motorcycles owned French brand has made deep inroads in the two-wheeler EV market and these five themed e-bikes reflect their prowess.

The electric motorbike brand celebrates the spirit of the ongoing Olympics by interpreting the five rings of the event with five different bikes. These are created by their service branch which goes by the name DAB Custom Studio. The color code of the Olympic rings is represented in the sports-oriented version of the DAB 1α.

Designer: DAB Custom Studio

Using the motorbike as the canvas, the limited-edition collection dubbed ‘A la gloire du sport’ represents blue for surfing, green for tennis, yellow for basketball, red for boxing and black for skateboarding. Lucky clients who’ve pre-booked the first production versions of the e-bike can give their rundown of the version they’ll prefer and the unique DAB 1α is delivered as per their liking. DAB Motors’ founder Simon Dabadie chose these five sports to represent the rings in the form of these cool motorbikes. We imagine, these are his favorite sports from the event and the final creations by the design team are impressive.

The freedom of the blue variant is perfect for surfers as it gets a front luggage rack and surfboard rack. The bespoke surfboard mounted on the right side carries the DAB branding. It has a saddle finished in wetsuit-style neoprene and special off-road beach-ready tires that have silver forks. In fact, the brand’s roots are in the coastal city of Biarritz, so this version is a homage to the company’s inception.

For Djokovic fans the green and white version is perfect. It comes with a tartan seat, a racket holder on the left side and a rack on the front to carry balls. The brown tires with white spokes stand out and the DAB 1α adapts a completely different personality in this attire.

The more Gen-Z-oriented black version represents the fun of skateboarding in the city streets. This model has carbon bodywork, BMX handlebars foam and hand-painted graffiti. For a robust character, the bike gets crash pods, a tubular protection structure and a skate rack to stash a skateboard.

The fighting spirit is represented in the red and black with gold accents on the suspension rods of the boxing edition. Saddle on this one has a pair of boxing gloves to kick in a fight and represents the tough culture of the golden era.

Finally, the Yellow edition represents the resilience of the basketball game and the connection to street culture. This one comes with a side pannier to hold the ball or your sporting kit. The vibrant shades also represent the hip-hop culture associated with the popular game.
