Quirky chair concepts are made for both humans and their feline masters

Anyone who has owned a cat will know the truth about who is really the master and who is the pet. Although they can definitely be cuddly and sentimental, furry felines are also known to be temperamental and territorial. And by that, it usually means that any place in the house can be their territory. All kidding aside, cats tend to love squeezing into tight spaces, even when you’ve already provided a lush, comfy, and unfortunately very open bed. Embracing the behavior of cats and how they can be central to owners’ lives, these concept designs envision furniture for humans that cats will appreciate, or rather, cat furniture that just happens to be usable by humans.

Designer: Jing-Cyuan Tang

For reasons unfathomable to all except their regal kind, cats love to squeeze into cramped spaces. Of course, they’ll still enjoy plush beds, but give them a box or a tube and their natural instincts kick in. So why not just design sleeping furniture that appeals to this behavior directly instead? Bonus points if it can also be used by their human owners, potentially letting them bond even better when resting in the same place.

That may be the thinking behind this rather unusual set of cat-friendly furniture design concepts. Or perhaps they’re human-friendly cat furniture designs. Either way, these chairs will be enjoyable to both parties, though their maintenance will probably be less so for humans. The common theme these chairs have are the armrests that act like dark tunnels, enticing cats to go inside to nap. There’s ample space for a cat or even two, so it’s not exactly a cramped and uncomfortable space at all.

Two variants of these armchair designs exist. Perhaps the more interesting one of the two has an armrest that goes around the back of the chair, creating a single tunnel that cats can walk through from end to end. There is also a more modest version where the armrests swap out tunnels for shelves, allowing owners to put other things on the side that won’t be used by the cat, presuming the cat doesn’t claim that space and pushes the vase off the shelf.

There is even a stool design where the very low backrest curves inward, creating that same tunnel shape where the cat can lie inside behind you. Truth be told, the seats don’t look too comfortable, especially with the backrests so low. They might have been unintentionally designed with feline comfort as the priority, showing who the real master of the house is. That said, they are indeed interesting designs and, to some extent, quite feasible, though the question of how to clean up after the cat inside those armrests still remains.

Cat tree concept proposes a multifunctional and risky design

Living space is becoming more expensive and cramped as time goes by, and that’s especially true when you’re sharing your home with furry friends. Space for human furniture will sometimes have to give way for those designed specifically for pets unless you can find a way to combine those two in a way that creates harmony rather than turf wars. Some pet furniture, however, doesn’t seem to be conducive to that design by nature, like a cat tree whose entire purpose is to give felines a place to play, scratch, or sleep in. That’s exactly the unbelievable idea behind this unusual furniture concept that blends a cat tree and a shelf for humans in a rather visually unique way.

Designer: Ricardo Sá

Thanks to their innate agility, cats are notorious for climbing places. They’re also pretty bad at scratching surfaces (just like dogs are infamous for chewing shoes), so cat furniture is often designed to address these needs while enticing cats away from human furniture. Unlike a simple bed or house for a cat, however, a cat tree not only takes up space on the floor but also quite a bit of height from the room as well.

Inspired by the Japanese art of “tameshigiri” or test-cutting swords through rolls of straw or bamboo, Slash is a cat tree design concept that tries to make room for the needs of both cats and their owners. More specifically, it’s a shelf with inclined surfaces, definitely unusual for a shelf, that makes different areas more suited for different functions. The inclined part closest to the floor, for example, would be a good scratching pad for your cat, while the shelves that stop in the middle pillar would be ideal for books.

There is a flat shelf in the middle, and one of these has a ball hanging down for a cat to play with. The middle pillar of the cat tree has cushions at the top and bottom for the cat to sleep or perch on. The middle space can be for almost anything, especially stuff that you don’t want to accidentally fall off.

Slash has an intriguing and unconventional design that will pique the curiosity of cats and humans alike. That said, it’s rather questionable where putting human objects, especially fragile objects like a potted plant, where a cat plays is actually a good idea. You might know which shelves are for you and which are for the cat, but your feline family might have other ideas and claim everything for themselves, as cats often do.

A Paper Cat Tower To Keep Your Feline Friends Engaged And Embrace The Royalty They Deserve

Looking almost like a shipping container home for cats, this quaint little box-shaped shelter employs stiff paper boards that come together wonderfully to create robust yet lightweight boxes for your feline friends to rest in, paw at, and potentially even play around on top of. Using sustainable materials (that can then be composted after their time is over), the boxes stack up wonderfully, creating everything cats need, from multiple entry points to elevated vantage points, and even a hanging toy to keep those curious little critters entertained!

Designer: HyeongJin YoonByungJun Lee, and Maro S

At the heart of Cat Box’s construction lies the innovative use of honeycomb board, a sturdy material that blends a core and honeycomb structure between plywood layers. Compressed with finishing materials on both the front and back, honeycomb board is an environmentally friendly choice, aligning seamlessly with the contemporary trend of embracing recyclable and reusable paper-based materials. This not only ensures the well-being of our feline companions but also contributes to a sustainable and eco-conscious approach to pet product design.

Creating a haven for feline royalty necessitates a thoughtful consideration of space utilization. Cat Box excels in this aspect by ingeniously designing vertical spaces, such as walls or ceilings, to accommodate cat-friendly areas. Recognizing that for cats, elevated viewpoints in vertical spaces are of paramount importance, Cat Box stands as a testament to the understanding of feline behavior and needs.

The centerpiece of the feline kingdom, a cat tower, serves as both a cozy retreat and an engaging playground. Designed with a keen awareness of cats’ natural inclination for heights, the cat tower not only provides a lofty vantage point but also a snug haven for rest and play within the cat kingdom. This unique structure becomes an essential element, offering feline residents the perfect combination of comfort and activity.

Cat Box goes beyond the ordinary by incorporating playboards on its sides, catering to the whims and fancies of our discerning feline friends. These boards seamlessly alternate between nose workboards and scratchboards, ensuring that the kingdom administrators are always attuned to the preferences of their furry residents. This thoughtful addition enhances the overall experience, turning Cat Box into a multifaceted haven for our regal companions.

The hanging toy, strategically placed within Cat Box’s vertical spaces, captures the attention of our feline residents. With their curiosity piqued the cats approach this small and special toy with eager eyes, examining its various colored elements. This delightful feature adds an extra layer of stimulation, creating an interactive environment that keeps our feline friends entertained and engaged.

For the overseer of the feline kingdom, Cat Box offers a convenient cat carrier, allowing them to go outside with their regal pals. Inside the carrier, plush cushions await, meticulously prepared to cater to the discerning preferences of our royal felines. This thoughtful inclusion ensures that even the journey beyond the kingdom’s borders remains a comfortable and enjoyable experience for our cherished companions.

Cat Box is a harmonious blend of elegance, innovation, and functionality in the realm of feline products. Crafted with care and consideration, this paper cat tower offers a unique and enchanting experience for both cats and their devoted human companions, redefining the standards of feline luxury in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner.

Tasteful & Functional Cat Tree Is Designed As An Excellent Alternative To Cheaply Made Cat Furniture

For most of us, our pets aren’t simply pets! They’re our children and babies we consider our blood. We take care of them the way we would take care of our kids, and leave no stone unturned to ensure they are happy, healthy, and safe. If you’re looking for a new and improved way to take better care of your pet then you may want to look into Papuk’s CONNECT Collection by Vazken Karageozian.

Designer:Vazken Karageozian for PAPUK

Designed by Toronto-based interior designer Vazken Karageozian, the CONNECT Tree is an elegant and functional cat tree that is the ultimate haven for the kitties. Karageozian has two adorable felines himself – Grayson and Ella, and he decided to use his design talent to create something exceptional for his two favorite clients. As a result, Papuk which is Armenian for “soft and fluffy” was created.

The CONNECT Collection by Papuk offers a modular approach to the construction and design of a cat tree. It designs a cat tree as a multi-level system that can be personalized and customized with a bunch of attachable accessories, in turn creating a comfortable, cozy, and fun recreational activity for your cats, providing them with something else to do besides scratching and climbing your couch. The CONNECT Tree serves as the foundational element of the CONNECT system. It is the centerpiece of the multi-accessory system and is supported by other elements such as a scratching pad, cushion, tray platform, and hanging toy – which are available as a bundle or à la carte.

One of the designer’s motivations for creating the CONNECT Collection was the fact that most cheaply made cat furniture is disposed of in landfills owing to their poor and questionable construction and designs. The CONNECT Tree, on the other hand, features solid-ash dowels, ash-veneered plywood shelves, and accessories that can be added using genuine leather straps. The CONNECT Tree is designed by Vazken Karageozian as a solution that offers “inter-species happiness”, which is often found lacking in the pet product category.
