Dwarf Factory’s ArtiSANTA Keycaps Are an Excellent Stocking Stuffer

It’s only been a week since Halloween! What’re all these Christmas (and other related holiday decorations) doing on my neighbor’s front lawn? Where did the summer go, for crying out loud? If I have no choice but to accept the season’s greetings, I’ll do it my own way: by replacing a few keycaps on my gaming keyboard with three miniature snow globes containing all the typical Yuletide treasures. That’s the idea behind Dwarf Factory’s latest invention, anyway. These ArtiSANTA keycaps from Dwarf Factory are bright, festive, and adorable — all traits any true gamer would want their gaming keyboard to have, as the weather turns cold and the holiday cheer turns… uh… warm.

Designer: Dwarf Factory

The AntiSANTA keycaps are not exactly compatible with every keyboard on the market. At least, it doesn’t seem so, given what’s advertised on their store page. But as long as you have a clicky, tactile, or linear keyboard with Cherry MX switches, you should be alright. You can stick these three keycaps anywhere on your keyboard you’d like, giving it a handmade decorative flair — befitting a festive ornament that looks like it belongs on your tree. Or on your mantle. Or, anywhere else you might stick festive holiday decorations.

These handmade keycaps come in packs of three, and each one is a little bit different. There’s the Yule Tree, the Père Noel (basically, Santa Claus), and Frosty the Snowman. Look closely enough, you’ll see how each piece features a handful of intricate details, like ornamental string lights and miniature holiday gifts. It’s disappointing there are only three per pack, but that’s just because they look so good.

If you’re shopping for the gamer in your life, these are only going for $49 per pack, and that’s a holiday miracle if there ever was one. They’re perfect for stocking stuffers or even just trinkets to have around in a gaming room. Now if only the holidays would get here sooner (so we can get back to that summer weather much sooner).

Nendo’s polyhedral Christmas tree with sparkling star-shaped cutouts will get you in the holiday mood

One of my favorite design studio Nendo recently created a gold-colored Christmas tree for the Tokyo Midtown shopping center in Roppongi, Tokyo, putting the whole of Tokyo and me in a Christmassy mood! The beautiful tree features kinetic cutouts, which were designed to mimic “sparkling lights”.

Designer: Nendo

Standing tall at 7.5 meters, the stunning Christmas tree has been placed in the middle of the shopping center and boasts a polyhedral surface crafted from flat metal panels that create a pyramid as a result of being bolted together. The panels feature little fluttering stars, and behind them are positioned 416 small and compact fans. The fans have been designed to move the panels in different patterns – up, down, and across the tree.

“The pieces not only sway and move with the wind but can also stop swinging in the air catching the wind at the programmed timing. By continuously receiving a certain amount of airflow, the pieces also float upward in a sustained manner,” said Nendo. The star-shaped patterns were designed to resemble sparkling lights and seemed to be swirling or flowing rhythmically around the tree, in a mesmerizing up-and-down pattern. Cutouts in the same color, that is matte champagne gold, have been hung from the ceiling.

“The theme glitter in the air translates to creating the uplifting and shimmering atmosphere, the very essence of Christmas, by literally generating ‘glitters’ by ‘air’,” said Nendo. These glittery and beautiful pieces are positioned on Tokyo Midtown’s garden terrace as well as its galleria and atrium terraces.

A Minimalist Wall-Hanging Christmas Tree

Does a traditional Christmas tree just not fit in with your design motif? Already have everything exactly where you want it and simply can’t spare any room for some bulky Christmas spirit? Well, the brand Aqestyerly has you (and your wall) covered with this minimalist wall-hanging Christmas tree (affiliate link). Cool, but where do all the presents go?

The tree measures approximately 40″ x 44″ when closely assembled and includes some fake greenery to attach to the wall, along with ornaments to hang from the branches. I imagine some busy business executive who just doesn’t have time for Christmas finding this hung in his modern penthouse apartment by his decorator while he sips fine scotch and bah-humbugs his way through the holidays.

Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer a real Christmas tree. The bigger, the better too, that way there’s maximum room underneath for presents. Granted, I was absolutely terrible this year, and Santa shouldn’t deliver me anything but a stockingful of coal to the side of the head, but a boy can dream. Mostly about Santa confusing my house with somebody who isn’t on his naughty list.

Santa Frozen in Carbonite Christmas Tree Ornament: Brought to You by Jabba the Humbug

Because no holiday decorating is complete without a casual Star Wars theme, Tree Buddees has created this Santa Frozen in Carbonite Christmas tree ornament (affiliate link). The ornament features everyone’s favorite jolly gift-bringer frozen and on display, presumably to be admired by Jabba the Humbug in his palace.

The ornament measures 3.5″ x 2″, making it “the perfect size for any Christmas Tree.” So if you were wondering what Charlie Brown’s tree was missing, it was this ornament. I wonder how many people out there have trees decorated with ONLY Star Wars ornaments? My guess is more than you’d think.

Is Mrs. Claus going to stage a rescue operation to free Santa and ensure Christmas isn’t ruined for all the kids this year? I sure hope so, and not just because I have a Porsche 911 GT3 on the top of my list, and I was actually good this year. Okay, I was fair. Fair to poor. I was awful, as usual.

Adorable tiny ‘USB Christmas Tree’ lights up with LEDs as you plug it into your laptop!

Christmas Spirit meets the Spirit of Innovation!

Sure, we aren’t in offices just yet, which means Secret Santa is a little more difficult this year, and chances are that office party won’t happen on the scale you expect it to. If for some reason, that’s giving you the blues, this absolutely adorable little gizmo should turn the frown upside down and spread some Christmas cheer while you work! The ‘PSB Xmas Tree’, as it’s labeled on Github, is a clever little PCB hack that plugs into your computer’s USB port and lights up like a tiny decorated tree. It’s incredibly DIY, but that’s precisely what I love so much about this tiny gizmo – the fact that it has this handmade personal touch!

The PSB Xmas Tree is the work of a Github community member who goes by the name of Piotr SB. The tree features a custom fabricated PCB with concentric circles that pop out to give the ‘tree’ its conical shape. These circular boards are connected via LEDs, that get supplied with power from your laptop’s USB port. There’s definitely a rustic charm to it as you can see, and Piotr mentioned it hardly costs anything (the PCBs were ordered from JLCPCB for something like $2 for 5 pieces) and runs on low power too. Aside from the PCB, the tree needs 19 THT LEDs (preferably 18 green and 1 red) and 19 1k Ohm resistors to effectively run the entire rig. A little soldering and boom, you’ve got yourself a plug-and-play Christmas tree that may be small in size, but it definitely matches the enthusiasm of your large decked-up tree at home!

You can download the open-source files from Github using this link… and while we feel there’s a charm to assembling the tree as it is, you could totally 3D print a tree-shaped enclosure that covers the gadget, giving it a more finished look.

Hallmark’s Keepsake 2021 Millennium Falcon Christmas Ornament

Because nothing quite says Christmas like Star Wars (back me up, 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special!), Hallmark is releasing this 2021 Keepsake Ornament of the Millennium Falcon (affiliate link). The metal ship measures 3.78″ wide, 1.4″ tall, 5.22″ long, and features a shiny silver finish. And with all the Mandalorian ornaments I’ve already purchased this year, I could probably decorate an entire Christmas tree with a Star Wars theme.

The ornament was designed by Hallmark artist Robert Hurlburt. However, I’m fairly certain the Corellian Engineering Corporation deserves most of the credit for building the YT-1300f light freighter the Millennium Falcon was modded from in the first place. Star Wars joke!

My wife and I have an entire box of Hallmark Keepsake ornaments commemorating different special occasions and anniversaries throughout the years. Or, I should say, we had an entire box of Hallmark Keepsake ornaments before I accidentally donated them all to Goodwill after mistaking the box for our old dinnerware. Obviously, I sadly expect my Christmas list to go largely unanswered this year.

USS Enterprise Christmas Tree Topper: Beam Me Up, Santa!

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Christmas? Star Trek, right? I mean, how could it not be? So what better way to celebrate the holidays than with this $150 Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise Musical Tree Topper With Light (affiliate link) from Hallmark. Wait – did that say $150? I was ready to pay at least $250. They’re practically giving them away.

The topper remains constantly illuminated when plugged in. With the push of a button on the included Starfleet insignia remote control, the Enterprise plays the theme from Star Trek and performs an accompanying light show. The ship can also be wired to additional Captain James T. Kirk, Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, and Lieutenant Nyota Uhura Star Trek ‘Storyteller’ ornaments (seen above, $35 apiece) to unlock additional performances. It’s a Christmas miracle!

I remember growing up how our Christmas tree topper was usually just the ceiling because my dad regularly overestimated the height of a tree that would fit in the living room. He’d also make sure to choose one with really low hanging branches, so it took fewer presents to fill the space under the tree. Consider that a free tip for all you parents out there.

Meet the Wisdom Tree, a bookshelf that looks like a Christmas tree and works like an ambient lamp

The name Wisdom Tree is perhaps the most apt for this bookshelf. Books impart knowledge, and when you’ve got a book-rack modeled on the shape of an evergreen tree, what better name could you possibly think of?! Meet the Wisdom Tree… it’s part bookshelf, part ambient-light. It illuminates your books and your space with a warm glow, while providing up to 5 storage racks for your current-reads. The shelf’s angular platforms let you stack the books open and face down, so you don’t really need a bookmark. Just lift up your book and begin reading from the page you’re on. Made by the same guys who designed the wonderful Bookniture series, each Wisdom Tree is made from birch plywood and is carefully assemble with build in USB powered warm white LED light.

I’m Dreaming of a Minimalist Christmas

The tradition of the Christmas tree in the house was derived from people bring their plants indoors for the winters to prevent the frost from killing the plants. We still practice this today with the evergreen Christmas Tree, and a closely-knit family studio based out of Slovenia wants to stick to the tradition of having a tree, but amp up its minimalism. Christmas trees are usually an exercise in decadence with baubles, streamers, and gifts galore, but not the Yelka.

The Yelka is a minimalist Christmas tree made with real wood, but with a design overhaul. Stacked upward in an alternating pattern, the pieces of wood resemble a Christmas tree, sans the excessive styling. The Yelka is perfect for a home with Scandinavian sensibilities and a love for minimalism. The tree comes in three different sizes, and is easy to assemble. The wooden slats stack one above the other and can rotate on a common axis, allowing you to build your tree by manually arranging the position of each branch. If you’re a sucker for decoration, you can even run a string of fairy lights around the tree, no problem! The Yelka comes in three different wood variants and with two different types of bases. Choose between a dark Walnut, or an Oak, or a light Maple wood to suit your home. You can even select the color for your stand too!

Designed to be an experience in itself, the Yelka is engaging and interactive. Much like you’d spend hours decorating a traditional Christmas tree, the Yelka’s playful design encourages you to be hands-on with it, probably even having a relentless power tussle with your family members and friends over which layout is the best (the helix is my personal favorite)! Designed to last decades, the Yelka can be flat-packed into a box and be taken out every Christmas for a wonderful holiday season that’s minimalist in just the visual sense. As for the gifts, food, drinks, and company, the more the merrier!

Tree for Life

“Artificial plastic trees do one thing well, and that’s survive for years. We love the idea of longevity and reusing things which encouraged us to develop a more sustainable alternative artificial tree. The tree was designed to fit into a variety of contexts visually, to pack away efficiently, and to last for years,” design studio Hello Yellow House told Yanko Design.
