Top 10 accessories you need to make a cool gaming room

As we near the final days of 2023 (known in some circles as either one of the best years in gaming history or one of the worst) the massively popular gaming hobby shows no sign of slowing down in terms of public reception. In fact, Statista predicts that 3.1 billion humans (a little less than half of the current global population) will regularly play games as a hobby by 2027.

But can you truly call yourself a “gamer” if you don’t spend at least a little time and money decking out the room you play games in? I’m half-joking; of course there is no specific “correct” way to play video games in your own house. But there are quite a few gadgets and cool decorative items you can use to make any gaming room more impressive.

Whether you’re a PC gamer who wants an extra edge, a racing game enthusiast who wants maximum immersion, or if you simply want to make your entertainment center a little more comfortable, you’ve got a number of options at your fingertips to trick out your gaming room to match your style. To help you out, I’ve come up with a list of gaming room accessories that immediately come to mind, including a few mainstays I’ve used in my personal gaming setup for years.

1. Playseat Trophy – Logitech G Edition

Playseat is one of the best racing chair brands you can buy from, and this collaboration between Playseat and Logitech (called the Playseat Trophy – Logitech G Edition) is probably the best option for an all-rounder racing chair with direct drive wheel support plus all the other bells and whistles you’ll need for maximum immersion. It’s also advertised to naturally conform to the shape of your body thanks to Playseat’s patented ActiFit material, so you can theoretically sit inside of it and race for hours without developing aches and cramps. It’s a little expensive at an MSRP of $599.00, but it’s hard to find a decent racing chair below that price range, and critics love the mix of features and high build quality.

2. Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel and Pro Racing Pedals

If you’re going to invest in a high-quality direct drive racing wheel and accompanying racing pedals, you’re going to want to go straight to the best one on the market. That’s the Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel and Pro Racing Pedals bundled together for around $1348.99 – which, yes, is expensive, but if you’re in the market for a high-end racing setup anyway, is money even an object? GamesRadar+ had some especially kind words for the Logitech G Pro Racing Wheel, highlighting the powerful force feedback, robust customization options, and advanced features throughout the design. It’s also widely known as one of the sturdiest racing wheels around, with IGN’s slightly less enthusiastic review still giving credit to Logitech for delivering on its commitment to quality.

3. Cololight Smart RGB LED Gaming Lights

Hexagonal LED wall lights are a popular and stylish way to decorate any gaming area or entertainment center, and I find the Cololight COLO PLAY Ultimate Fusion Set offers the best price balance for the widest range of features as it’s designed around PC gaming setups – letting you sync a wide range of lighting systems (like Razer Chroma) with Cololight’s hex lighting pieces. The included COLO PLAY light switch sits comfortably on your desk and is especially useful to quickly cycle your hex lights and PC lights by simply twisting a knob. Not only that, but the company pledges to plant a tree with every purchase made on its online store, which is a nice gesture on its own.

4. Secretlab MAGNUS Pro

Sit-stand desks are an excellent centerpiece for any modern PC gaming setup, and one of the best-rated desks in 2023 is the Secretlab MAGNUS Pro. It’s spacious, sturdy, and has a number of quality-of-life features like electric height control, a cable management system, and even a little headphone hook for added convenience. It also contains a rather impressive integrated RGB lighting system, making for a unique and stylish design. Its height is configurable via an array of buttons conveniently accessible on its front panel. It’s expensive, but the reviews are unanimously (overwhelmingly) positive, with GamesRadar+ calling it the best sit-stand desk they’ve ever tested when they reviewed it in February 2023.

5. NEWTRAL MagicH Ultra Adaptive Support Home Office Chair

I personally dislike most gaming chairs I’ve ever sat in. I’m a firm believer that the secret to buying a proper gaming chair is avoiding them altogether, and instead investing in a really nice office chair. After all, office chairs are designed to be sat in for at least eight hours a day by office workers of all builds and ages. Their most critical function is comfort, and the NEWTRAL MagicH seems to push the boundaries on just how comfortable an office chair can be. This Kickstarter-backed office chair is advertised to provide full support in any sitting position, whether you’re sitting upright or reclining back. As someone who spends a lot of time sitting down in the same computer chair all day for both work and gaming, I’ve been looking for something that adapts to my needs throughout the day, and the NEWTRAL MagicH is on the tippy top of my wish list.

6. Logitech G560 LIGHTSYNC PC Gaming Speakers

I’ve been using these Logitech G560 2.1 PC speakers for years now, and I still recommend them as a compulsory purchase for any modern PC gaming setup. Their sound quality is decent enough – these aren’t going to compete against a proper 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound system, or even a nice pair of monitors. However, for the $200 MSRP, you’re getting a powerful 2.1 PC speaker system that also provides a ton of visual ambiance. These speakers double as LED lights that beam colors onto the surface behind your monitor. They can be configured via Logitech G HUB software to mimic the visuals on your monitor itself, creating a dynamic backlighting experience that heightens immersion when playing games and watching movies. Just remember to turn up the brightness to max and boost the subwoofer in the acoustics menu, otherwise these will be a lot darker and a lot quieter than advertised.

7. Samsung Odyssey OLED G9

The most stylish gaming PC monitor you can currently buy is the 49-inch Samsung Odyssey OLED G9, which looks incredible at 5120×1440 resolution with 1800R curvature. The Odyssey OLED G9’s integrated HDR 400 support should produce crisp and rich colors thanks to its OLED display, which doesn’t rely on a backlight and therefore negates the need for local dimming to generate deep blacks and bright whites. It’s designed for gamers first and foremost, running at up to 240Hz refresh rates with built-in support for AMD Freesync. Reviewers especially like how it produces near-instant response times, giving off no perceptible input lag. From a purely aesthetic perspective, the minimalistic design of its stand and the integrated RGB backlights make the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 a centerpiece rather than an eyesore.

8. Xbox Mini Fridge

The Xbox Mini Fridge is admittedly a bit goofy, but then again, it’s not a “real” fridge. What was originally a meme product designed to build up hype for the then-new Xbox Series X in 2020, is still a genuinely cool item to have sitting around in any gaming room. It’s small, with a sleek black chassis and bright green inlay that mimics the design of a proper Xbox Series X. But its best feature is the integrated green LED that gives it its visual flair. Besides, it’s perfect to store a few cans of soda in since it is, after all, classified as a mini fridge.

9. Govee DreamView T1 Pro TV Backlights

Console gaming is way more immersive with a dynamic TV backlight that beams colors onto the surface behind your TV to match the visuals on-screen. Thanks to the Govee DreamView T1 Pro, you can light up your entire entertainment center across three different zones. It’s all controlled by a single camera placed on top of (or below!) your television screen, which can interpret the colors on the screen into information which tells the lighting zones which color to display at any moment. In action, the wide range of lights and colors displaying across the entire entertainment center makes games and movies come to life.

10. PDP REALMz Gaming Controllers for Xbox/PC/Nintendo Switch

Unique gaming controllers are a great way to personalize your gaming room, and thanks to the PDP REALMz diorama controllers for Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch, you can impress your friends with artsy designs that feature popular characters and backdrops. What really stands out here, though, is their transparent design, which makes them look retro. These are a great gift for any gamer in your life, or you can decorate your own gaming room with the wide assortment of styles and colors offered by PDP REALMz.

A customizable refrigerator with take away mini fridge is the ultimate solution to keep beer chilled on the go

The future of refrigerators is bespoke and portable. Staying in line with the two trends, ARTE Mini Refrigerator is a wholesome package every modern home would crave.

Bespoke refrigerators, such as Samsung has been working on, ensure that your appliance can match with the color of your kitchen interior so that the fridge is not that ugly duck in the space you have developed with choice. The ARTE is part of this space and arrives with a beautifully customizable exterior in a two-door design. The one half of the refrigerator has a top to bottom door with a clock in the center, while on the other half there are two sections with a lower portion comprising a mini-fridge slot. In a freezer-esque section below, the mini-fridge is the second part of the ARTE – perhaps the main part, if you like – that differentiates it from other options on the market.

Designer: Kyeongsu Kim

The ARTE Mini Refrigerator is cut out for the pandemic ear. As a customizable and full-fledged fridge at home, it can take care of all the needs as we spend more time – than ever before – within the walls of our abodes. With the portable mini fridge addition, which can be pulled out, and tagged along like a trolley, it opens up to a range of use cases. It can be carried to the great outdoors in the car, tagged along to the backyard (instead of a beer cooler) for a barbeque party, or maybe to the living room by the couch when you’re binge-watching or gaming with family and friends.

Without compromising its original function as a refrigerator, the ARTE can be used both internally and carried outdoors. The idea behind its design is a future where home appliances combine small parts that can be separated from their source and yet have various usability. ARTE Mini Refrigerator is a step ahead in that direction where the main section of the fridge remains operational on electricity at home, the portable section can be easily transported and moved using a carrier and run efferently on a rechargeable battery. The mini-fridge comes with a table attachment that can be fastened to the top of the ARTE to place your bottle or serve the food stored in it.

This smart mini fridge’s portable, wall-mountable design can be carried around like a suitcase!

Samsung is engineering bespoke designs to allow homeowners to customize their refrigerators according to their interiors. But this wall-mounted smart mini fridge that clips out to be carried around is more utility for nuclear families today!

There’s no dearth of smart fridges on the market. Every other manufacturer is adding mobile controls and sensors to place their refrigerators in the smart category. Then these units are topped with energy-efficient tech to make them consume less power, and that’s about it. There is little thought gone into changing the appearance of the fridges we use; despite their size and capacity, they are still boxy and take up a lot of floor space.

In my opinion, a genuinely smart refrigerator is one that adds value and presents more use cases than a regular option easily available. This is where the G-cube smart mini-fridge marches in with its impressive portability add-on. The conveniently sized mini-fridge is first up designed to help users manage food more conveniently. It can be wall-mounted in the kitchen to save you precious space in the apartment. Moreover, the G-cube can be clipped out of the wall mount to be stashed into the boot of the car – or added to your RV’s kitchen – when your adventurous life takes you far and away from home.

In addition to managing the food and keeping your drinks cool when you’re traveling, the G-cube saves you the liability of carrying a speaker along. Yeah, that’s right! The G-cube when collected to a mobile device over Bluetooth can be used as a portable speaker. Fancy as it may sound – do not mistake that for the audio – this little appliance is surely going to make heads turn whether at home or on your next camping trip with friends.

The stylish and attractive G-cube mini-fridge on the inside is divided into compartments to store foodstuff according to the convenience of consumption. For instance, foods that need to be consumed in a short duration are kept separately from items with longer shelf life. Bottled drinks on the other hand have their own compartment. On the outside, this portable fridge door is covered in fabric and features onboard controls for adjusting the speaker volume. The front of the G-cube also has a small display to flash lyrics as the music plays. Designed in two colors: Pearl white and Blue, this smart mini-fridge is a sublime piece of art and worth featuring on every home’s wall.

Xbox Series X-inspired Mini Fridge coming this holiday season, turning the meme into reality!

In November 2020, Microsoft revealed their next-generation gaming console – the Xbox Series X – and it became a part of memes for a very unusual reason. People on social media compared its shape to a fridge, and sportingly, even Microsoft joined in the gag, making a real-sized functional fridge at that time. The one-off Xbox Series X Fridge was given away in an online contest. Now it seems Microsoft has been intrigued by the idea of Xbox Series X being a fridge (or should I say the joke) and wants to take it just beyond a one-off build.

Announced at their E3 2021 event, Microsoft revealed their Xbox Mini Fridge. The cool new appliance carries the tag of “Xbox and Chill” for the current skeptical times we are living in. That is, keep entertained with the next-gen Xbox console and stay chilled with your favorite can of soda during the breaks. Microsoft touts the Xbox-shaped mini-fridge to be the “most powerful mini-fridge” coming to your living room this holiday season. From the teaser reveal video released by Microsoft, the mini-fridge has an Xbox logo on the outside, and on the inside, it has a green ambiance to add a dash of the old Xbox intrigue.

The mini-fridge is powered by the “Xbox Velocity Cooling Architecture,” keeping it ultra-chilled at all times; paying homage to the Xbox Velocity Cooling Architecture that enabled the positioning Series X gaming console to be the most powerful gaming rig out there. By the look of things, the mini-fridge seems to hold around ten cans of beverages at a time and can be used to keep other items cool as well. The best thing is you’ll be able to grab one by the holiday season, and while there is no word yet on this mini-fridge pricing, we know it won’t be a stocking stuffer for sure! The idea already seems to be making waves for reasons good and bad (capitalism, duh!). We’re not entirely thrilled by the idea, as the appliance remains more of a gimmick without any added functionalities, but it may inspire a series of green/RGB light-emitting mini-fridges, and that is something I do find intriguing.

Summers just became more bearable thanks to this portable air conditioner with a built-in mini fridge

It keeps you cool and chills your brewskis too.

Meet the Fufu. What it lacks in name catchiness, it makes up for with function. Designed to work as a tabletop air conditioner as well as a mini-fridge, Fufu is your ultimate weapon against a hot and sweaty summer day. With the proportions of a backpack, Fufu sits anywhere in your room, cooling your space as well as preserving your food and drinks. It uses two semiconductor cooling systems that run simultaneously, balancing energy efficiency and cooling efficiency together.

It’s worth noting that Fufu is more of a concept than a real product (otherwise I’d have 5 of them by now). With the design brief of being the ultimate appliance to beat the heat, Fufu keeps you cool externally as well as internally. Its small blower is about the same size as a tabletop fan, while the two-tiered fridge has enough space on the inside to store 12 cans of the beverage of your choice, or you could take a healthier route and store fruits and juices inside too.

Fufu comes with a pretty simple interface that gives you control over the air conditioning. A knob on the front lets you adjust wind direction by orienting fins just like you would on a car air conditioner, while a dial on the side lets you switch the air conditioner on, select wind speed, and desired temperature.

The Fufu’s schematic details how its cooling system would work on paper. Two semiconductor cooling systems work in tandem, creating an efficient balance between cooling the room (or the person sitting in front) and the fridge cabinet. Dual exhausts on the back pushes hot air out, which would probably mean Fufu is best suited for being kept near a window as opposed to against a wall. The designer has even hacked together a proof-of-concept based on the schematic, so maybe we’re close to seeing a working prototype soon?

Fufu was built for the Asian audience, Hong Kong in particular. Referred to as the Most Air-Conditioned City in the World, almost every flat and building in Hong Kong is outfitted with air conditioners that run around the clock, keeping rooms as much as 10°-15° cooler than the outdoors. You could also watch this video that details how “Hong Kong became a giant refrigerator” to understand why something like the Fufu would be an instant hit in the region!

This R2-D2 like personal refrigerator can stock 60 soda cans!

If you live with roommates or siblings then at some point you will really appreciate having a personal refrigerator during this lockdown and it doesn’t hurt if the appliance looks like a modern version of R2-D2. Silo is a personal refrigerator that solves two of its predecessor’s biggest issues – either they take too much ‘personal space’ or they can’t hold enough of your stuff and this is no time to be judged on your snack stock.

This personal fridge is both, beauty and brains if I have to put it in the simplest terms. Even if you find a good enough mini-fridge, it will not look as cool as Silo with its sleek curves and minimal design. For its size, you will be surprised how much it can store in its 3 Lazy Susan shelves – 2 tubs of ice-cream on the first level, 36 soda cans on the second level and 15 wine bottles on the third level. It also has an in-built ice-maker that empty’s into a stainless steel bucket that can be used to keep your drinks cool when we are allowed to have gatherings like summer barbeque parties again! Silo gives us something to look forward to while making our time indoors equally happy.

Silo’s physical form radiates a joyful emotion about the product and makes you truly connect with it. The fridge itself is only 30 inches tall, which means it is tinier than R2-D2. The lights at the top and bottom diffuse effortlessly to add a touch of luxury to your surroundings. I am going to call this an essential appliance now. Silo’s cylindrical build optimizes space and storage for small living set-ups like New York apartments or college dorms. Silo fits seamlessly in any interior setting and probably even elevates it, it is a mini-fridge that you don’t have to hide but might want to if you have the best snacks.

Retain your chilled drink’s temperature with this drawer equipped mini-fridge!

Working away in your home office space and need a refreshing beverage, but too lazy to go all the way to the kitchen? Watching a movie, and want a chilled beer, but too invested in the film to actually budge? For all those of you who live alone, and don’t really have someone to grab something for you from the fridge, you know the pain of walking over to it when you’re completely engrossed in something. Well, product designer Taewoo Kim created ‘Drawer’, a mini-refrigerator that promises to be within the reach of your fingertips!

Inspired by an actual drawer, Kim’s mini-fridge snugly fits underneath desks! Looking more like a piece of furniture, than a home appliance, Drawer can be easily placed under a desk or any other convenient nooks and crannies in your home. Its furniture-like aesthetic allows it to easily merge with the interiors of your home. With sufficient space to store beverages, bottles and some food items, Drawer is perfect for a single person household wherein refrigerable items are a few. Handle free, you only need to push the door of the mini-fridge to access it.

However, Drawer’s most interesting feature would be its cooling cup holder! Similar to a drawer in your desk that you tug out, the cooling cup holder can be pulled out to reveal a cup holder that keeps your drinks chilled at all times. You can work away, or watch a movie, with your chilled drink easily accessible. No more picking up your drink to find that its back to a gloomy room temperature. Air vent holes can be found on either side of Drawer, so you can easily push it against the wall and save up on a whole lot of space.

Drawer’s cooling cup holder has literally won my heart! The thought of having a chilled beverage always by my side, without having to move my body gives me goosebumps, and I can’t wait for this concept to turn into a reality!
