14K Gold and Cubic Zirconia Michael Myers Pendant: Stabbing in Style

What better way to express your fandom for the Halloween franchise than with this Michael Myers 14K gold plated and cubic zirconia pendant? I can actually think of a lot of ways, but that isn’t going to stop me from dropping $650 on this piece from Aporro. I can already close my eyes and hear my wife yelling about the credit card charge.

Did you know the original Michael Myers mask was created by Halloween’s production designer Tommy Lee Wallace using a $1.98 Star Trek Captain Kirk mask he purchased from a costume shop on Hollywood Boulevard and modified by widened the eye holes and spray-painting the flesh a bluish-white? Because that’s true. The more you know!

Unlike the original, this particular piece is brass with a 14k gold plating and a plethora of white and black cubic zirconia adorning Michael’s face. It measures 90mm x 70mm (3.5″ x 2.7″) and weighs 198g. Obviously, it would be far better as a full-size mask I could wear while cutting the grass to let my neighbors know my yard is not one to let their dogs poop in without picking it up.

This ceiling light was made using shaved wood-curls!

Enter a wood-working studio and you’ll indubitably find a corner filled with sawdust and these rather magical looking curls of wood left behind from the wood-planing process. These curls are the result of blocks of wood being shaved to make them smoother and splinter-free, and more often than not, they’re either thrown away as waste, used as kindling for fires, or to insulate animal shelters like chicken coups. Tom Raffield, on the other hand, decided to turn them into eye-catching pieces of lighting.

The No.1 Pendant is a part of Raffield’s vast collection of lights that explore the use of wood-curls as inspiration. Now these curled pieces of wood aren’t the same as you’d find in the corner of a wood workshop… they’re much more deliberately produced, are slightly thicker, and are much more uniform in their shape and size. Instead of being a by-product of wood-planing, Raffield manually steam-bends thin strips of wood to get them in the desired shape. The No.1 Pendant lamp uses over 40 meters of steam-bent timber, woven into a rather alluring ‘scrunchie’-inspired shape. The wall-hung lamp comes in three sizes, and in ash, oak, and walnut wood variants. Just remember to use an LED bulb with your lamp. You don’t want those thin wooden pieces getting too hot!

These Tiny Robots are Ready to Invade Your Neckline

If you are a fan of robots, or just want to ingratiate yourself to them before they take over the world, check out Tiny Robots. Their shop is loaded with all kinds of cool robot accessories like pendants, earrings, bracelets, hair clips and other stuff with tiny robots on them. Each one is made from old electronic parts and bits of hardware.

They add new tiny robots all the time, so there’s something for everyone. You know what’s even cooler? Each tiny robot comes with a certificate of authenticity. Actually, it’s even better. You get a certificate of adoption where you can add the robot’s name and the date of adoption. Now you are a parent! Yea!

My favorites are the robot pendants because they look like robots trapped in clear amber, perhaps dug up by some future civilization. While most of the robots they make are tiny, they do offer some bigger robots too.

There are more robots then you can shake an electric stick at between the Tiny Robots website and their Etsy shop. The robots in their shop are pretty darn adorable. You’ll pick one of these little dudes, and then find like ten in your cart. I suppose that’s fine, because you can’t have too many cute robot accessories. Do yourself a favor and check out all of their robot offerings.

Connecting Light and Architecture

lamp_01

If the “Sand Bridge” pendant looks familiar, it’s because the lamp’s distinct frame takes inspiration from the iconic red cantilevered bridge. The specific one that inspired the designers is known as the Sand Bridge in Poland. Constructed from sheet metal and aluminum, the design is light yet adds a sense of weight and industrial style to any space’s atmosphere. It’s right at home in loft-like spaces!

Illumination Meets Optical Art

dana_01

Inspired by Victor Vasarely’s Optical Art, the Dana pendant is a lamp that plays with shadows to create an optical illusion of non-objective art. It gives the viewer the impression of movement, stressing the relationship between form and function. The viewers perception will include ambiguous figures, line interference, chromatic vibration from different viewpoints as well as the superimposition of elements in space. To achieve this, two semi-spheres act as the foreground and background in a tense and contradictory juxtaposition. This creates two patterns of lines with a single common point: this being a cable that ties the entire system together.

Marika sculpts and paints each item by hand, so it takes her about 8 to 20 hours per pendant, hence they’re expensive even though they’re small, around ~$40 (USD) to $110 each. Head to MiraCrafts’ Etsy page to order.

An Impressively Detailed Tiny Steampunk Heart: If I Only Had a Heart…

This beautiful steampunk heart pendant is perfect for your inner tin-man who needs a heart. The detailing is extremely intricate, especially when you consider that some parts measure less than 2mm. Just stunning.

It comes from Etsy artist Steelhip Design. Unfortunately this one is reserved for another buyer, but maybe if you ask they will make one for you. This piece took about 16 hours to make and is made from tiny watch gears, optical screws, a 3D copper heart, and lots of love.

Doctor You: Wear Your Name on a Gallifreyan Pendant

No matter how much you may wish it were true, you weren’t born on Gallifrey. So you have probably never seen your name in Gallifreyan, much less owned a piece of jewelry with your Time Lord name on it. Well, these gorgeous Gallifreyan pendants can change all that.

They are created by Washington State-based artists Illyana and Kristen, who use a fan-made version of the language created by artist Lauren Sherman and hand-paints each 1.5″ pendant. These glossy pendants are sealed to protect the finish and come on an 18-20″ silver chain. Now you can at least pretend you were born on Gallifrey and maybe even went to school with you know who.

Animated Super Mario Cloud Pendant, AKA Animated Super Mario Bush Pendant

Not all wearables have to be the next big thing. Here’s a high-tech piece of jewelry that you can make with the help of Adafruit’s Pro Trinket microcontroller and a 3D printer. It’s a pendant with a 1.44″ LCD display that’s playing a looping animation. In this case it’s the clouds from Super Mario Bros. endlessly scrolling by, but you can replace that with your own graphics.

As you can see the pendant’s 3D printed case was inspired by the Game Boy, but again you’re free to come up with your own design.
