This modular bracelet concept lets you choose how smart you want your jewelry to be

The popularity of the Apple Watch has finally given smartwatches their place in the market, making them understandable and even desirable. Of course, that doesn’t mean that everyone now wants a smartwatch, especially those who prefer mechanical watches or have different aesthetic tastes. Unfortunately, the majority of wrist-worn smart trackers seem to be made with sporty and rugged designs in mind. Given hardware requirements, that’s not exactly surprising, but that shouldn’t stop designers from imagining what’s possible. One such dream is reflected in this minimalist yet distinctive bracelet that throws all smart wearable design conventions out the window, offering a modular piece of jewelry that is smart in more ways than one.

Designers: Akasaki Vanhuyse, Astrid Vanhuyse

If you remove the actual time-keeping function of a smartwatch or a fitness tracker, all you’re really left with are the sensors that actually do the work of keeping tabs on different metrics of your health, directly or indirectly. A display isn’t even necessary since you can always check those figures on a smartphone. In fact, a display might even be detrimental because of the distractions it pushes your way or how it clashes with some fashion styles. Smartwatch designs are primarily constricted by hardware such as displays and big batteries, but what if you could be free of those restrictions?

That’s what the BEAD concept seems to be proposing, offering the same health and wellness monitoring functionalities but in a form that is a bit more universal and, at the same time, more personal. At the heart of the design are the beads, actually tiny cylinders that each hide a single sensor used to track a specific biometric like a pulse oximeter or an accelerometer. Each bead is an independent unit, free from displays or large batteries, performing a single task and performing it to perfection.

The idea is that you can combine any number of these beads on a string or wire to achieve the same collective effect as a fitness tracker. You wear it around your wrist like a bracelet, held together at the ends by magnets in the shape of half-spheres. The wire is white, plain, and unadorned, which puts a bigger visual focus on the beads. Those beads themselves carry a brushed metal finish that helps hide whatever scratches they may incur over time while also giving them unique characters.

You can add or remove as many of these modular beads as you need, only paying for the functionality you actually use. It also makes repairing broken beads easier, since you only need to replace that single piece. Admittedly, the industrial aesthetic might not appeal to everyone’s tastes, but the concept opens the possibility of using different, perhaps more stylish designs that will truly create a fusion of fashion and technology in a simple smart bracelet.

Watch bracelet concept is a minimalist accessory for a fashionable evening

Ever since I started using a smartwatch, actual watches and sometimes even bracelets aren’t such a priority for me anymore. But every once in a while, I do like taking this gadget off and wear more decorative stuff. I like accessories that are pretty unique or conversation starters so I like looking for indie designers that have these kinds of creations. I’m not much of a watch connoisseur so I also just go for cheap ones that have a unique design as well.

Designer: Roman Nurbaev

This design for a bracelet and watch in one seems right up my alley, in terms of what I’m looking for both. In fact, you can even choose to wear it as just a bracelet if you don’t need something to tell you time (since your phone is there already if you need time). The “strap” are two gold (or gold-colored) rings that aren’t perfectly circular. They have a slight dip or curve so they’re actually pretty interesting if you just use them on their own. Well, that’s if you like minimalist accessories of course.

But if you want to use it as a watch, the bracelets serve as the straps and the circular part is obviously, the watch. The hours are show on the biggest surface while the minutes are in the innermost dial and the seconds are in the outermost. I’m not exactly sure how it will work as the product renders don’t really show the mechanics of it all. As someone who prefers my watch to show just the digital time instead of the analog, I’m not such a fan of that.

But design-wise, it’s really pretty and dainty so if you’re into minimalist design, this might appeal to you. I’ve gotten used to my clunky smartwatch so having something so pretty on my wrist will be pretty different but if someone gives me this watch bracelet, I wouldn’t mind wearing it every once in a while. Now the time-telling part that will be a challenge though.

The WHOOP 4.0 combines the fitness tracking of a Fitbit with the fashion-appeal of a Livestrong Band

If you’re old enough to remember the Livestrong craze, you’ll attest to the fact that it had a much more widespread cultural impact than the Apple Watch ever did. Promoting millions of sales as well as spawning millions of cheap copies, the Livestrong band was perhaps one of the largest awareness initiatives of our time, raising awareness for cancer and providing support for cancer survivors. Cut to 2021, and the Livestrong band’s been replaced by step-trackers, fitness bracelets, and smartwatches… but there’s a problem. Not many of them compare to how much of a fashion statement those bands were.

Designed to meld the worlds of fashion and fitness, the WHOOP 4.0 band sports a minimalist, sans-screen design that echoes the fashion sensibilities of the Livestrong band. With a design that highlights the fitness tracker’s woven fabric band, the WHOOP 4.0 does two jobs remarkably well – it expertly tracks your fitness stats, and looks good while doing it.

Designer: Aruliden for WHOOP

Having garnered the support of world-class sportspeople like LeBron James among other Olympic athletes, WHOOP has revolutionized human fitness and performance through its combination of tracking physiological data and providing real-time effective coaching to help reduce injury and boost performance. Currently in its 4th edition, the band, created by design studio Aruliden for WHOOP, sports a smaller, smarter, more streamlined design that features the tracking device itself, along with an interchangeable fabric band that lets you simply and easily swap bands to suit your fashion needs or match your outfit.

What really sets the WHOOP 4.0 aside is its fashion-friendly design. The product does away with the silicone and plastic constructions seen on most bands, opting instead for a slick wraparound woven fabric that clamps in place using a metal buckle, with the tracker underneath. The tracker sits sandwiched right between the fabric and your body, doing what it needs to do, while staying effectively hidden from view.

“Our innovative design for WHOOP rethought the archetype of the wearable category,” mentions the Aruliden team. All of the team’s design decisions around the WHOOP 4.0 are focused towards combining fashion and tech, while keeping them separated. For starters, the band ditches the screen altogether, immediately setting itself apart from its tech-focused competition. The lack of a screen, of buttons, or even of the tracker itself allows the WHOOP 4.0 to comfortably sit in the category of a fashion accessory, while quietly and effectively doing the job of a state-of-the-art fitness, sleep, and recovery tracker.

Sitting in a housing that’s 33% smaller than its predecessor, the WHOOP 4.0 comes with a variety of new features. Its tinier, smarter design allowed Aruliden to even develop the WHOOP Body ecosystem of accessories that let you attach the WHOOP 4.0 hardware device to any part of your body. The new technology within the WHOOP 4.0 device leverages an upgraded sensor configuration for optimal accuracy, and WHOOP’s Any-Wear™ Technology includes a first-of-its-kind line of smart apparel which enables members to wear their WHOOP 4.0 on multiple locations across the body. The smart apparel collection is available in two collections: the Training Collection comes in sports bras, compression tops, leggings, shorts, and athletic boxers while the Intimates Collection has bralettes and everyday boxers.

“We’ve always aspired to develop wearable technology that is either cool or invisible. With the launch of WHOOP 4.0 and WHOOP Body, we have accomplished both goals and are now setting the standard for the future of our industry”, said Will Ahmed, WHOOP Founder & CEO.

WHOOP 4.0 features include:

Upgraded Sensor Configuration: The active sensor area now balances green and infrared lights with five LEDs, four photodiodes, and advanced algorithms to provide more accurate heart rate measurements

33% Smaller Size: WHOOP 4.0 is 33% smaller than WHOOP 3.0 with a five-day battery life

New Feature – Sleep Coach with Haptic Alerts:WHOOP 4.0 is engineered with haptic alerts that members can set to wake them up through gentle vibrations at the optimal time based on their sleep needs and cycles

New Feature – Pulse Oximeter: The upgraded hardware is equipped to calculate blood oxygen levels (SPO2) to help members unlock daily health insights

New Feature – Skin Temperature Sensor: WHOOP 4.0 can now measure skin temperature and provide members another layer of knowledge about their bodies

New Feature – Health Monitor: Members can now track live heart rate, skin temperature, blood oxygen, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability in one view. The Health Monitor also allows members to easily download and export 30 or 180-day trends of these metrics into a PDF that can be shared with a coach, trainer, PT, PCP, or physician

WHOOP Battery Pack 4.0: The upgraded, waterproof battery pack lets members charge on the go and double-tap to view battery level

Next Generation Battery Technology: WHOOP 4.0 is the first product in the world powered with Sila’s silicon anode battery materials. Engineered with cell configuration improvements and long cycle life, the new battery delivers 17% higher energy density than WHOOP 3.0, facilitating a reimagined industrial design that also unlocks WHOOP Body.

This nifty multitool watch-strap turns any smartwatch into the ultimate EDC toolkit

Leatherman EDC Watch Strap Adapter for Apple Smartwatch

Your Apple Watch can measure your heart rate and count steps… but can it tighten a bolt or open a screw? Not that it’s something a smartwatch needs to do, but this handy bracelet + attachment turns your watch-strap into an EDC utility belt with 29 different tools!

The magic lies in two parts – the existing Leatherman Tread Bracelet, which packs 29 high-strength stainless-steel multitools in a portable, travel-friendly band that sits along your wrist… and the adapter, which turns the bracelet into a strap that attaches to your Apple Watch (or any other smartwatch). The bracelet’s individual links hold as many as 3 tools per module, from flathead screwdrivers to Phillips head screwdrivers, a wide range of hex-drivers, and even an oxygen tank wrench. Made in Portland, Oregon, the Leatherman Tread Bracelet brilliantly turns EDC into something absolutely new, allowing you to wear it along your wrist as almost a fashion accessory… and the bracelet’s designed to last too, with a whopping 25-year warranty. That’s a lot more than your Apple Watch.

Adapter-modules allow the bracelet to attach to either side of your Apple Watch as straps. The adapters are available in both smaller and larger lug-sizes for the Apple Watch, and come with 2 pairs of spring bars to secure the adapters in place, and a nifty spring bar removal tool just in case you want to upgrade to a newer model of the Apple Watch but still hold onto that incredibly useful and visually hardcore Leatherman multitool bracelet! If you don’t own a Leatherman Tread bracelet, you can pick one up here.

The Esiva bridges smartwatches with jewelry to make wearables fashionable

What if a smart-band didn’t look like a band? What if it assumed the roles of a smartwatch, but looked like a chic bracelet? Esiva makes the case that tech and fashion can coexist in a way where tech takes the back-seat and fashion shines through. If smart-jewelry were a term, the Esiva would fit perfectly into that category. It looks nothing like a traditional smartwatch, but does the job of one, delivering notifications, telling you the time, and tracking your fitness. The band comes with an all-metal design, featuring a minimal 3-part arc-shaped display.

The display’s slim shape means a simple, bare-basics interface with only relevant information, along with a minimal interaction involving just tapping and swiping. Two crowns on the rim help you perform a host of other tasks like summoning your phone’s Voice AI. Ultimately, the Esiva forms an extension of your smartphone, delivering information to you in a crisp, concise, and charming manner… and even though it doesn’t have a large, square-shaped interface that you’d get lost in, its elegant design will ensure all eyes are on it!

This wearable bracelet let’s you go back to work while enforcing social distancing

Are you getting tired of quarantine? Funny how we always wished for work from home and now we are itching to go back to our offices. Suddenly the water cooler chit chat and commute means so much more to us. We don’t have a vaccine yet but soon some of us non-essential workers may have to return to the work lives we knew before the pandemic and it is crucial we still follow the rules of social distancing + wearing PPE so that we are minimizing the risk while still helping rebuild the economy. Romware has designed a wearable gadget that can help us navigate through the new normal safely till we have a vaccine.

Romware’s bracelet helps to reinforce the social distancing guidelines as more of us return to work. The digital device monitors the employees’ location and warns them if they are too close to each other. Initially designed for industries such as construction, logistic, warehousing, manufacturing, and port services, this bracelet can be used by any large company that cannot function remotely and relies on labor. Whenever employees are closer than 6 feet they will feel a vibration that warns them. The bracelet has a geo-fencing feature that allows you to set a limit for how many employees can be in a specific area to ensure there are no large gatherings. One of its most effective features is that it enables contact tracing, so if someone does fall sick the employer can easily track anyone who may have been in contact and take necessary measures.

The employees’ privacy is guaranteed and the bracelet uses Ultra-Wideband which means it doesn’t require a data connection. However, it can be used with data too if there is a need for contact tracing which will access the employee’s location. All data will be deleted after 14 days and it doesn’t require the employees to disclose anything they don’t want to. The personal wearable device is only used for social distancing purposes and to ensure the safety of the workforce as long as the threat of the pandemic still looms over our heads. Romware is doing it’s best to follow ‘prevention is better than cure’ strategy and we agree.

Wear the Solar System on Your Wrist

In Men in Black, it turned out that Orion the cat held the entire universe on his collar. While it’s not quite as impressive as carrying the universe, you can carry the solar system on your wrist. You’ll just need to pretend that your arm is the Sun, so the planets have something to orbit around.

This solar system bracelet is made up of polished gemstones that have been selected for their similarity in color and pattern to our neighboring planets. It’s supposed to help with your Chakras or something too, but I prefer to stick to the scientific interpretation of things.

Despite the diagram above, the bracelet includes all nine planets (including Pluto) and the moon. Of course, they’re not to scale, as that would be one uncomfortable bracelet if you had to lug around Jupiter all day long. The remaining stones are black with star-like speckles, representing the vastness of space.

You can grab this spacely bracelet over on Amazon for just $10.

Avengers Infinity Gauntlet Jewelry: Just Don’t Snap Your Fingers

Peter Quill just couldn’t control himself and had to punch Thanos right in the face, resulting in the snap heard around the world. If you like the idea of an all-powerful gauntlet that lets you do whatever you want, try this Infinity Gauntlet Rings Bracelet on for size.

This version of the Infinity War Gauntlet consists of a chain bracelet with colorful faux gemstone rings attached by smaller chains. The whole thing is gold colored but isn’t gold. Its made of nickel-free zinc alloy.

It’s listed as “one size fits most” and can be yours for $34.99 over at ThinkGeek. Just don’t use it to vaporize half the world’s population.
