Established by Daniel in 2007, Wallmakers has earned acclaim for its innovative approach to design. However, their latest project takes innovation to a whole new level. Toy Storey isn’t just a residence; it’s a living monument to nostalgia, childhood, and environmental consciousness.

The concept behind Toy Storey is simple yet profound: repurpose discarded toys as structural components and decorative elements within the home’s walls. Approximately 6,200 toys, considered unsuitable for recycling, find new life in this unique dwelling. Plastic, a ubiquitous material in today’s world, particularly in the realm of toys, takes on a new identity, serving as a reminder of simpler times and prompting reflection on our consumption habits.

Located in Vadakara, North Kerala, Toy Storey’s design is deeply rooted in its surroundings. The circular layout, accessible from every side with a verandah supported by toys and old Mangalore tiles, harmonizes with the local landscape. The use of compressed stabilized earth blocks (CSEB) and Mangalore tiles, alongside toys, creates a visually striking facade that blends tradition with contemporary sensibilities.

The architectural ingenuity doesn’t end with the exterior. Inside, Toy Storey is a testament to thoughtful design and community-centric living. Divided into public and private segments, the home fosters a sense of togetherness while respecting the need for personal space. Japanese-style shoji screens serve as translucent partitions, allowing light and visual connectivity to permeate the interior.

The incorporation of a central courtyard and composite CSEB-Toy Jaali wall enhances cross ventilation and insulation, ensuring a comfortable living environment year-round. Additionally, a secluded basement level, accessed via a central staircase, offers space for a library and bedroom, further enriching the home’s functionality.

Plat cleverly blends everyday tasks with the art of cooking. Imagine the joy of preparing a delicious meal in your kitchen – the aroma of spices, the sizzle of sauce, and the warmth of the oven. I personally don’t really cook, but anything related to food would definitely excite me.

At the core of Plat’s design philosophy lies the fusion of familiarity and novelty. By infusing elements from the kitchen, such as the interaction of the opening water in the sink and the scent and light of the oven, Plat reconstructs them into innovative products that redefine the desk experience. The name “plat,” meaning “cooking” in French, perfectly encapsulates the brand’s identity and mission.

One of Plat’s standout features is its custom typography logo, inspired by the diverse shapes of kitchen cutlery. The logo’s geometric sans design blends soft and sharp edges, creating a cohesive and organized visual identity. Additionally, Plat’s graphic elements draw inspiration from common cooking experiences, simplifying forms such as sprayed sauce, stacked plates, and water vapor into sleek and functional designs.

Drawing inspiration from the gradual heat buildup in cooking, this timer employs color interactions that intensify over time, subtly guiding users to recognize the passage of time. It also has additional wired charging ports at the back with a loop to keep the cables safe from damage.

Moreover, Plat’s Wireless Charging Dock goes beyond mere functionality, offering efficient task management tools through its intuitive dashboard interface on the smartphone. Users can effortlessly track urgent goals and sub-tasks, monitor weekly work time and concentration levels, and access detailed analysis reports for insightful self-assessments. The inclusion of a storage box at the bottom ensures organizational ease, accommodating essentials such as pens, chargers, and stationery, while a charging inlet and cable loop prevent clutter and damage.

2. Desk Lighting:

In a nod to the comforting ambiance of a kitchen after a satisfying meal, Plat’s Desk Lighting draws inspiration from familiar culinary motifs. This innovative light fixture features upper indirect lighting that illuminates workspaces during task-oriented sessions. However, its functionality transcends mere illumination.

Upon completion of work time, the indirect lighting gently fades, signaling a transition to rest and relaxation. Simultaneously, a diffuser at the bottom releases subtle scents, evoking a sense of calm and prompting users to take much-needed breaks. Operational usability is paramount, with a labeled button allowing for easy brightness adjustment and a base that accommodates smaller items like phones or stationery.

The lighting fixture boasts 60-70 mini LED lights strategically spread across the top pallet, ensuring uniform illumination. Additionally, a connection inlet at the bottom ensures seamless integration with power sources, offering convenience and flexibility.

This innovative series serves as a sequel to their earlier pendant lights, seamlessly marrying glass craftsmanship with an explosion of colors and shapes.

The Wave II collection takes this tradition to new heights, featuring candy-colored glass elements meticulously arranged along cords, reminiscent of beads on a string. Some of these elements are sandblasted, imparting a semi-opaque finish that imbues the lights with a soft, ethereal quality, adding to their allure.

Wonder what’s special about these? It is not only their visual appeal but also their textural richness. Wooden and silk elements intermingle with the glass, creating a symphony of materials that elevate the designs to a whole new level. The Wave II collection comprises seven distinct designs, each a masterpiece in its own right. Introducing you to your drink’s new best friend – the Cool Line Liquor Bottle series… It’s not your ordinary bottle; it’s a magician’s hat of sorts, hiding not one, not two, but four secret compartments for your favorite drinks. Crafted from durable stainless steel and lined with a safety coating, it’s as tough as it is reliable. Amping up your indoor and outdoor parties and catering to varied choices in a compact form.

At first glance, the liquor bottle appears to defy convention. Its sleek and modern aesthetic diverges from the familiar silhouette of standard liquor bottles. Yet, beyond its striking exterior lies a remarkable fusion of form and function, carefully crafted to cater to the evolving preferences of contemporary consumers.

Imagine picking up a pencil and drawing in the air. With this bottle, those lines come to life in 3D! The designer took simple lines and turned them into a cool, futuristic liquor bottle. It’s not just about looks though – it’s super practical too. By smoothly combining thick lines and introducing a novel joint mechanism, the designer transforms ordinary lines into a tangible 3D representation of a liquor bottle. You can store not one, not two, but four different types of liquor in one bottle! How cool is that?

The transformative nature of this design extends beyond its visual appeal. Each unit comprises a pair of linear tubes, offering a unique solution for housing multiple varieties of liquor. The main upper tube, equipped with a convenient screw cap, facilitates easy pouring of the main liquor. Meanwhile, the C-shaped base tube, cleverly integrated with the joint mechanism, adds an element of versatility. By simply adjusting the position and unscrewing the cap, users can access a secondary liquor stored within the base tube.

Moreover, this bottle boasts not only innovation in form but also in material composition. Crafted from premium 304 stainless steel and featuring a food-grade inner coating, it ensures both durability and safety in beverage storage. The outer packaging, comprising cardboard, EVA-base, PET sheets, and acrylic plates, further enhances its appeal as a premium product.

Behind the scenes, extensive research and experimentation have paved the way for the realization of this groundbreaking design. The designer carefully looked at lots of other bottles to see what young people like. Through iterative prototyping and 3D printing, the optimal joint mechanism and tube thickness were determined, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal. Undoubtedly, the journey of designing this liquor bottle was not without its challenges. The development of the joint mechanism, in particular, posed a challenging obstacle. Yet, through creativity and perseverance, the designer succeeded in creating a mechanism that allows for fluid rotation of the main tube while ensuring stability and balance.

Glass panels, resembling the ampullae of a starfish, beautify the ceiling, allowing sunlight to filter through during the day. This not only illuminates the space but also reduces the need for artificial lighting, enhancing energy efficiency.

Moreover, the use of speculative locally sourced materials such as bamboo and wood underscores the project’s commitment to vernacular architecture. By leveraging indigenous resources, the structure seamlessly blends with its surroundings while minimizing its environmental footprint.
