4. Retro Camping Lantern Concept

This retro lamp concept is designed to make your outdoor camping experience a little bit more fun, while also providing much-needed essential lights. It is inspired by ordinary objects that have been used for ages galore, some even going back centuries ago. It is a contemporary version of several antiquated lantern designs – those that use kerosene, as well as those that utilize candles. But instead, the lamp uses rechargeable lights, supposedly LEDs.

Why is it noteworthy?

The LEDs are placed in a circular tube hidden at the bottom and top portions of the lamp. The “cover” of the lamp is inspired by the wide-brimmed hats used by ancient swordsmen from East Asian countries, which also look pretty similar to traditional gas lanterns. A modular lighting design serves as the ‘candle’, and multiple ‘candles’ can be stacked on top of each other.

You can also integrate a typical flashlight inside the lantern.

  • The designs are conceptual, so we don’t know how functional they will be as tangible products

The cutlery has mechanical strength, and they won’t easily break apart if you’re slicing through a well-done steak. The various elements can be split in half, making the utensils quite easy to carry around. You can easily screw and unscrew them.

What we like

  • The set is quite durable and is designed to last
  • Compact and portable form

This lightweight camper for mid-sized trucks has auto expanding pop-top mechanism to maximize headroom

Adventure Manufacturing has been delighting adventurous souls with their truck campers ever since the 2020 pandemic under the brand Scout Campers. With the success of the hardtop shell Tuktut camper for 4×4 trucks, the new addition to the lineup focuses on all-weather and lightweight design, making even more sense.

Designed for mid-sized MUVs like Toyota Tacoma, Ford Raptor and Jeep Gladiator, the pop-top camper dubbed Yoho Pop Up is ultra-lightweight at just 976 lbs, and is super easy to set up. Thus, making it ideal for vehicles that can be prepped for an adventure trip by the morning time, and then, trimmed down back to their native utility by the night. This all-weather camper doesn’t eat up much of your range which makes it an even better choice for electric MUVs and electric off-road trucks.

Designer: Scout Campers

The brand is targeting midsized truck users who don’t want to compromise on fuel economy and crave a solution that hits the right balance of protection and practicality of use. Yoho Pop Up is made out of composite panels with an aluminum exoskeleton and a single-piece monocoque composite roof. The cabinets are made out of recycled paper and feature bamboo countertops. Scout Campers is confident that the pop-up camper sleeps three people and a dog or a small kid, but to be safe we’ll say, two adults and a dog or small kid is what the pop-top will be comfy enough on extended trips.

It has a total height of 69.75 inches which can be expanded to 79 inches for more headroom even for the tallest of people. The expanding function can be initiated with the built-in pop-top mechanism (called Early Rise) that allows you to leave your bedding in place even when the top is down. The automated feature comes in handy when traveling solo, or weather conditions are not in your favor. Designed to mimic the look of a hardtop shell camper, the Yoho Pop Up has larger doors for easy access.

The maker has fitted the Pop Up version with an 18.5-liter Lifesaver Jerrycan Filtration-ready water canister with a 3,000-W Goal Zero power station. A stainless steel sink, dual 100W solar panels, a 5-lb propane tank, and exterior lighting also come standard with the model. If you want to go for more, there is the optional 45-L Dometic CFX3 fridge, Kammok Crosswing awning, portable indoor/outdoor gas cooktop, portable toilet, and 7.5-L RotoPax canister to increase the freshwater capacity.

The pricing of Yoho Pop Up is more than the hardtop version at $27,000 which is surprising. Also, we have to keep in mind the fully proof weather-resistant design of the hardtop model. While most of the hardcore adventurers will lean towards the Tuktut, this pop-top version is made for people looking to have the option of a low drive profile while traveling. Those interested can make a $500 deposit to book their unit with availability promised in a few months.

Helinox Tactical Cot Tent lets you not sleep directly on the ground when camping

Camping or sleeping outdoors is one of the things that you probably cannot make me do (unless it’s a really comfortable or glamorous glamping kind of thing). But if I am forced to do so, I’d prefer to have something that will not let me sleep directly on the ground and also something that means I won’t share it with other people. Of course there are sleeping bags out there but again, I’d prefer not to have contact with the ground. So a cot that I can sleep in by myself would be the ideal thing (if you’re forcing me to sleep outdoors, that is).

Designer Name: Jake Lah

The Helinox cots are pretty innovative accessories that you can bring with you when staying outdoors. The designer is now making it even more comfortable if you want to sleep outdoors using the compatible cots by giving you the Tactical Cot Tent. Made from your choice of mesh or fabric, the tent attachment will turn your cot into a fully enclosed sleeping space for one person that is off the ground. This means when folded, it can also be easily carried on your vehicle and then assembled when needed since it’s 22.5” x 8” x 8” ultralight ripstop cinch bag and weighs just 3.5 lbs when packed.

The tent uses shock-corded poles to lock the frame into place while the pole clips make it easy to install. There are also reinforced corners, ties, and corner sleeves so you get a more secure sleeping space. To anchor it to the ground, it uses four J-stakes, one for each corner. Inside your tent, you have four interior mesh pockets, two on the ceiling and two on the sides, to store your valuables. You can also hang your gear on the four interior loops found inside the tent. The 40D polyester hexagon mesh is breathable for the mesh version while the durable 70D nylon ripstop can withstand the elements for the fabric version. Both have water-repellent PU-coated 70D nylon taffeta floors.

If you know that you might get some rain, there’s also the Tactical Cot Tent Solo Fly that you can attach to put on top of the tent to protect you from the elements. It uses velcro tabs to attach to the cot tent while four J-stakes secure it to the ground. You get two front doors skewed towards the side with a single back door and rear ventilation window for better air flow and reduce condensation inside as well.

The Living Vehicle ‍CyberTrailer comes with enough solar panels to power your trailer as well as Cybertruck

After the Cybertruck-compatible camping tents and interesting tracks that can convert the Tesla’s fancy pickup into a snowmobile, it’s now time for the CyberTrailer to shine. A Living Vehicle’s camping solution to tow behind the impressive Cybertruck, the trailer is not only similar by name, in fact, it resembles the Tesla pickup truck in more ways than the angular design inspiration.

The camping trailer by the California-based specialist, Living Vehicle, isn’t really all set to hit the road from the word go, but it is ready to offer glimpses of the near future. The future of completely off-grid camping, where an electric trailer can be your home for an extended time in the wilderness.

Designer: Living Vehicle

The Californian trailer builder has been in the business of developing off-grid luxury experiences for some time now. Whether you talk about the HD 24 or the HD 30, these ultimate campers are built from marine-grade materials making the luxury in the travel trailer possible. If you’re a stark believer, you can expect the similar construction pattern and luxury features of the predecessors to flow into the dramatically enticing CyberTrailer.

Of course, what the CyberTrailer is made from, or what it packs inside, or how much backup its power generators provide, is not outrightly informed by Living Vehicle at the point of writing, but the company has made some interesting revelations. For instance, the travel trailer is designed to promote independent camping in nature far from RV parks and random charging stations.

So, the CyberTrailer is a self-sufficient off-grid home on wheels with its ability to run all the appliances and electronic components through self-generated power from onboard solar panels. When needed, even power back the towing electric vehicle, and generate its own water from thin air, courtesy the water-air generator that can fill up its freshwater tank as you ride.

Embodying the features to reduce range anxiety, while extending off-grid adventure time; the trailer is fashioned to be towed behind a Cybertruck, but it can even be hauled by “F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1-T, or any conventional gas or diesel half-ton truck,” the company informs. At this point, perhaps, this is all that Living Vehicle shares about the CyberTrailer. If that’s good enough for you to bet your buck, you can reserve your model at the company website against a $100 refundable deposit. When it eventually launches, it will retail for upward of $175,000.

Perched on SUV rooftop, HardTent can set up in seconds, keep you warm and dry all year round

We don’t usually come by rooftop tents with collapsible hard-body exterior. It’s not because manufacturers are not giving it heed – the truth is, we are seeing a few pop up every now and then – it is because the fabric exterior still remains a preferred choice for its wide variety of advantages including construction convenience, lightweight composition, and effortless packing and unpacking.

As iterated, some rooftop tent manufacturers are steadily aligning their allegiance with cleverly engineered materials to deliver hard-walled tents that ride well on top of your SUV. These tents have not found mass adoption yet for two reasons: they tend to add weight to the car’s ride and have a price tag almost twice of what a fabric-walled rooftop tent would cost. Unlike the traditional hard-wall tents, HardSider, is flipping the tide with HardTent: Rooftop tent designed specifically for SUV, which comes with a place to rest inside a robust wall protection offering sound insulation and protection against the elements at a fraction of the cost of any similar RTT in the category.

Designer: HardSider

HardSider, the company focused on ‘reigniting the deep connection between people and the great outdoors,’ has perfected the hard-walled rooftop tent with an origami-inspired pop-up mechanism featuring solid walls on all three sides (owing to its triangular open design). The hard-walled rooftop tent erects in seconds with all the walls lifting off the roof quickly and cleanly as a fabric-walled RTT. Its dual air intake system helps circulate fresh air throughout the interior, while a custom ladder is provided for access into the tent.

These properties are made possible because of its construction. The hard-walls of the HardTent are made from rigid honeycomb composite and provided with laminated waterproof insulation offering an all-season RTT to sit atop any compatible vehicle, preferably an SUV. To that accord, HardTent is sleek on the road and spacious when unfolded. Its interior has a full-size – 52 x 90 in – mattress with enough width to sleep a couple and still have some length for a furry companion to accommodate. And your SUV would barely feel the difference (with this RTT), opening up many new opportunities for you to explore.

Measuring a good 96 inches in length, the HardSider’s rooftop tent is only 7 inches tall when closed. Its low profile makes driving with this 200 lb RTT effortless for the SUV or any compatible vehicle that can handle the weight. And when you decide to change your vehicle, the HardTent rooftop tent can uninstall and move to your new ride. All this for an asking price of only $6,000, which is pricier than the canvas walled counterparts, but conveniently priced otherwise in its own category.

Bolo Packs: Outdoor Innovation Redefined

What is Bolo Pack?

Bolo Packs is an innovative outdoor gear product currently being funded on Kickstarter. This transformation allows it to serve various functions such as a hammock, shelter, or mat, enhancing outdoor experiences by offering unmatched adaptability and convenience.

Who is it targeted at?

This product is aimed at outdoor enthusiasts who engage in activities like hiking, camping, and fishing. It’s especially suited for those who appreciate gear that is both functional and adaptable, capable of serving multiple purposes during outdoor adventures. The design considers ease of use, organization, and versatility, making it an attractive option for anyone looking to minimize their gear without sacrificing functionality.

Similar Products

Similar products in the market include multi-functional outdoor gear that combines storage with versatility. Products like the Coolest Cooler, which integrates a cooler with several other outdoor functionalities, and various modular hiking packs that can be adapted for different uses, are similar in their aim to provide a single solution for multiple outdoor needs. However, Bolo Packs’ unique feature of transforming into a tarp might set it apart by offering a shelter option that other products do not.

Things to Consider

When considering backing or purchasing a product like Bolo Packs, potential users should consider:

  • Functionality vs. Needs: Ensure the product meets specific needs in terms of space, versatility, and comfort.
  • Quality and Durability: Given its outdoor application, the material should be durable and able to withstand various weather conditions.
  • Price vs. Value: Evaluate if the cost of the product is justified by the functionality and convenience it offers.
  • Campaign Progress: Potential backers should consider the success of the Kickstarter campaign and the company’s track record in delivering on their promises.

As of now, the Kickstarter campaign for Bolo Packs is approaching its funding goal, showing a healthy interest from the community, which can be a positive sign of market validation.
