And an excellent lighting design that we feel ticks all the checkboxes is the Grasp Portable Lamp by Thomas Albertsen for Frandsen.
Designed for the TV show Denmark’s Next Classic, the Grasp portable lamp by Danish brand Frandsen features an innovative and unique rechargeable bulb. After it debuted on the reality TV competition, where it was one of the best lighting designs, Frandsen picked up the lighting piece.
Frandsen was impressed by the ‘exceptional potential’ of the design, and hence decided to pick it up. The lamp features a refined metal form that comprises two cones – one for the base, and one for the lampshade. The two cones are connected via a thin and curving road that also makes up the body and the handle of the lamp. The portable lamp has a clean and minimalist visual appeal, while also serving as a functional and highly practical design with a water resistance rating, which makes it a great fit for both the indoors and the outdoors. It also features a base that sits well on both smooth and not-so-smooth surfaces.
“I wanted to make a portable lamp capable of illuminating a table where people gather, enveloping the surroundings in a warm, intimate ambiance, casting a magical aura in the otherwise dark spaces,” said Albertsen.
The lamp’s bulb which is called the Frandsen One functions as a source of light and power unit for the lighting design. So you don’t need to recharge the whole lamp, you can simply remove the bulb, and replace it with a fully charged spare bulb.

Designed by Spaces Architects@KA, this tall and narrow home in the streets of New Delhi, India has a unique and mesmerizing element to it. The home includes a large wall mural. This beautiful mural is the focal point of the home, and it covers multiple floors. Spanning through various stories, the mural occupies a significant space in the house, letting the work of art be beautifully integrated with the living space, while also holding a powerful place of its own.
The colorful mural includes a tree with leaves, flowers, and birds. The home is adorned with interior walkways which offer unobstructed and clear views of the mural. Visitors can peacefully admire and gaze at the work of art. The towable dwelling looks quite ordinary and simple from the outside, but the interiors feature a clever space-saving layout, which contains a hidden bookshelf doorway that leads to a light-filled enclosed porch. Measuring 34 feet in length, and based on a triple-axle trailer, the Sherloak Homes has an exterior made of woodgrain steel finish, and wood which has been charred using the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban method, providing it with a unique dark aesthetic.
The interior of the Sherloak Homes measures around 372 sq ft, and it has a distinctive oak finishing. You can enter the home via the main entrance, wherein you are welcomed by a spacious kitchen that includes a double sink, fridge/freezer, four-burner propane-powered stove, microwave, oven, breakfast bar, and loads of storage space.
Closely located to the kitchen is the living room, and the bookshelf/hidden entrance. You need to push the pressure plate which is concealed in a nearby wall-mounted light fitting, which unlocks the bookshelf door, which you can then open like a normal door. 6. Zipper Electric Scooter
Say hello to the Zipper electric scooter – which is easy, efficient, and convenient to ride. When not in use, you can fold the scooter down, and store it away. It has a 500W motor which can take it up to a top speed of 20 mph, and can even push it up inclined roads with a 25-degree slope. The scooter can support riders weighing up to 125 kg, so it can hold most people. It has a maximum range of 16 miles on a single charge, which powers up the 10Ah battery for four hours.
7. Supersonic Kick Scooter
Dubbed the Supersonic Kick-Scooter, this unique-looking kickscooter features an organic plant-inspired structure. It can haul an adult weight of 110kg with ease and without any fuss. Aluminum was used in the openwork construction of the scooter, keeping the weight down. It is a three-wheeled contraption that can be folded down when not in use, or when you need to put it away. You just need to push the lever by the side of the front wheels.
8. e-Tron Scooter
Inspired by Audi, Daekwang Kim designed the e-Tron scooter. The e-scooter features the cool metallic finish we typically see in Audi models, partnered up with a smooth glacier-gray coating for the scooter’s exterior deck and bar. The deck has a black, non-slip, rubber-treaded grip which ensures that your feet are firmly planted at all times. The accelerating buttons are located on the handlebar, with a smooth silicone grip to provide steady balance.
9. Mjotim
Designed by Yifeeling Design Lab, the Mjotim is a unique scooter to meet the technological standards of today, while drawing inspiration from the charm and beauty of the earlier forms of motorized scooters. Mjotim has the typical form and structure of a scooter, and it is meant to be ridden while standing up. The motor is encased inside, and the gear information is outside the steering column. It is equipped with two handlebars for steering.
10. Smacircle
The Smacircle scooter is designed to address the “last kilometer” problem of crowded cities. The scooter is designed to cover the distance between the subway stop, and your destination. Usually, there is a one or two-kilometer distance between your destination and each subway stop, and Smacircle helps you commute through that distance. You can fold down the scooter when you’re in the subway, and then unfold it and zoom out once you’ve reached your subway stop.
Switching out bulky chairs in my home for compact convenient little stools has become my newfound love. Designed by the American brand Bestcase, the Foundation bar stool is a beautiful celebration of the rawness of aluminum, and the simple manufacturing techniques used to build it. It was designed by Bestcase co-founder Charles Constantine and was unveiled in 2022 as a part of a collection that was crafted from aluminum sheet material. The minimal and sturdy stool features scaled-up sheets that are bent via a technique that is traditionally utilized to add some structure and solidity to thinner materials. This displays the structural as well as decorative qualities of aluminum, and how it can be durable and strong, while also retaining some aesthetic value.
The Foundation bar stools are equipped with mechanical connections, and a raw satin waxed aluminum finish or a powder-coated color. Bestcases describes the Foundation bar stool as “an exercise in simplicity”, and it quite beautifully celebrates the exceptional material properties of aluminum. Designed by Modern Tiny Living, the Mi Casita, which quite accurately translates to ‘my little house’, measures around 26 feet, and showcases a clever space-saving interior, jam-packed with nifty features that are typically seen in larger models. The home features a bathroom with a tub, and a downstairs bedroom despite its modest length. It is founded on a triple-axle trailer and is accentuated by fiber cement board siding as finishing, an engineered wood trim, a charcoal-colored steel roof, and a custom cedar door.
If you put the home into perspective, it is even smaller than Baluchon’s 20 ft Sherpa tiny home, which is its pint-sized model. The interior of the home is quite full and is packed to the brim considering its compact size. As you enter the home, you are welcomed by a kitchen that includes a double sink, fridge/freezer, electric oven, and cooktop, as well as a microwave and custom cabinetry. The kitchen is connected to the living room, which features a small sofa, as well as a dining table. It is a snug and cozy area.
The living room is further connected to the downstairs master bedroom via a sliding door. The bedroom isn’t as big or spacious as compared to other rooms seen in larger homes, but it does have a sufficient amount of headroom. Since it is placed on the ground floor, this means the residents don’t need to go upstairs and position themselves on their knees to get into bed. The downstairs section also includes the bathroom, which is quite well-equipped including a standard flushing toilet, freestanding bathtub and shower, as well as a washer/dryer.
