Apple has a knack for igniting curiosity with its creative event teasers. This year, they’ve captivated us with an image of a hand holding an Apple Pencil, set against a backdrop shaped by an imaginative Apple logo, which has led to widespread speculation about potential iPad updates. I, along with other members of the media, was invited to tune into Apple’s “special event” on May 7th at 7 AM PST. We’re keen to see if products like the 2021 iPad Mini and the 2015 Magic Trackpad 3, still on the market and recently spotlighted by my colleague, will receive updates. The event, intriguingly named “Let Loose,” promises to possibly reveal these changes, all under the iconic Apple logo that creatively hints at what’s to come.
Designer: Apple
iPad Pro 12.9-inch (6th generation) with Magic Keyboard
I’m betting that new iPad models being announced at the event will sport a larger 13-inch display while maintaining the sleek size and form factor we’re used to. The Pro model could really impress with a larger OLED screen, especially if they shift the front-facing camera to a horizontal layout. While we’re on the topic of design, I’m hoping for a stronger yet lighter build using titanium, and it wouldn’t hurt to slim down the thickness by 25% while upping the battery life. On the performance front, these new iPads are expected to be powered by the M3 chipset.
iPad Pro 12.9-inch (6th generation) with Magic Keyboard
I really like the current Apple Pencil, but it wouldn’t hurt for Apple to give us something even more eye-catching. As for the Magic Keyboard, the design is great, but the first row of keys tends to get blocked by the iPad, and the trackpad feels too cramped for comfort. Thinking back to my titanium wish list, wouldn’t it be wild if Apple used titanium in a redesigned Magic Keyboard? That would definitely lighten the load when paired up. But coming back to reality, an aluminum build with a redesigned key layout and a larger trackpad would be more than welcome. And let’s not forget about giving the new iPad Pro some MagSafe compatibility. Just think of the endless accessories that could turn it into a dream machine for creatives and professionals alike.
iPad Mini 6th Gen (2021)
Apple could potentially make subtle upgrades to the iPad Air and iPad mini or even discontinue the latter. One speculation is a larger 12.9-inch size iPad Air in addition to the 11-inch model. On the peripheral side, it’s unlikely that Apple will update the other products on Sarang’s list.
As Bulgari commemorates its 140th anniversary, it introduces two distinguished Octo Finissimo Automatique BVL 138 Sketch editions that celebrate the brand’s legacy and propel it into the future with groundbreaking design concepts. These editions—each in rose gold and stainless steel—illustrate a sophisticated fusion of material excellence and design innovation.
Designer: Bulgari + Buonamassa Stigliani
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Automatic BVL 138 Sketch in rose gold
The rose gold model, reference 104165, features a luxurious 40mm case that is impressively thin at only 5.5mm, thanks to the ultra-slim profile of the BVL 138 movement. This case offers both a sapphire case back and front, revealing the inner workings of the automatic BVL 138 caliber. This movement is just 2.23mm thick, with a diameter of 36.6mm, and equipped with 36 jewels. It includes a platinum micro-rotor, a small seconds feature positioned at 7:30, and a 60-hour power reserve. The artistic gold dial beneath a lacquered finish enhances both its depth and visual impact, and the dial itself presents technical illustrations that mimic a skeletonized view, lending a sophisticated illusion of depth. This model’s rose gold bracelet, complete with a folding clasp, mirrors the case, reinforcing the watch’s elegance.
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Automatic BVL 138 Sketch in rose gold
Conversely, the stainless steel model, reference 104163, offers a sleek, contemporary option. It shares the same 40mm size and a thin 5.5mm profile with a sapphire case back and front, showcasing the precision of the automatic BVL 138 caliber. The dial, finished in silver lacquer, acts as a shimmering canvas that reflects the mechanical beauty it encases. The stainless steel bracelet, secured by a durable folding clasp, enhances its modern appeal. Like its rose gold counterpart, it boasts a 60-hour power reserve and robust 100-meter water resistance, ensuring reliability and functionality.
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT BVL 318 Sketch
The dials of both models highlight Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani’s creative expertise. Each stroke and sketch brings the technical elements of the watch to life with spontaneity and artistic precision. These elements bridge traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistry, highlighted by the trompe l’oeil effect that gives each dial a three-dimensional look despite its flat surface.
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT BVL 318 Sketch
In addition to the two remarkable editions, Bulgari introduces a third variant limited to 140 pieces: the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT BVL 318 Sketch (Ref. 104192). This model is molded in stainless steel, features a chronograph and GMT function, and incorporates the same innovative sketch-style dial. It showcases a 30-minute chronograph counter at 6 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock, and a second-time zone display at 3 o’clock, making it a standout piece for global travelers and watch enthusiasts alike.
Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT BVL 318 Sketch
This approach illustrates Bulgari’s innovative spirit and aligns with its heritage. It uses color schemes that enhance each model’s distinctiveness—the rose gold’s warm tones enhance its refined elegance, and the cooler tones in the stainless steel accentuate a more urban, modern aesthetic. Each design choice ensures that the dials are integral to the watch’s identity, reflecting a blend of avant-garde design and traditional watchmaking.
In crafting the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition, Audemars Piguet redefines the concept of special timepieces, creating a category entirely on its own. This collaboration with John Mayer enhances the watch’s allure, blending his artistic sensibility with the brand’s commitment to innovation, passion, and a profound respect for the craft of watchmaking. The result is a timepiece that transcends traditional boundaries, emerging as a unique collector’s item and a demonstration of meticulous craftsmanship and aesthetic perfection. This collaboration secures its place as an iconic piece in the world of luxury watches.
Designer: Audemars Piguet + John Mayer
John Mayer brings a unique perspective to this partnership, channeling his creative flair and imaginative intuition into the creation of the watch. His approach mirrors his music philosophy—each element must resonate with emotion and depth, akin to a chord striking a soulful note. Each component of the watch is designed to reverberate with feeling, enhancing the overall sensory experience of the timepiece. Mayer’s favorite watches are those where the dial is not just observed but experienced, a concept that deeply influenced the design of the “Crystal Sky” dial. Describing it, he likens the watch’s face to a picture window—one looks through it into another world. In this case, the dial is a portal to a moonless, starlit sky, vast and boundlessly deep, offering a sense of the infinite and the eternal. This deep link between the dial’s design and the natural world transforms the watch from simply measuring time to reflecting the timeless expanse of the universe.
The dial is a masterpiece of design, featuring an embossed motif resembling a spread of irregularly shaped crystals. This choice is intentional, echoing the natural crystalline forms found in rock formations and ice, elements that transform under the weight of time itself. The texture adds visual depth and a tactile dimension that begs to be touched and closely inspected. Audemars Piguet used a precise electroforming process to achieve this intricate detail that constructs the dial’s motif atom by atom, reflecting the brand’s dedication to micro-mechanical innovation.
Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak “John Mayer” Limited Edition dial detail and self-winding Calibre 5134 movement
The watch’s technical specifications are equally impressive. The heart of the timepiece is the Manufacture’s self-winding Calibre 5134, a movement that maintains a slim profile despite its complexity, measuring just 4.3 mm in thickness. This calibre is an evolution of the Calibre 2120/2800, first launched in 1978 during the quartz crisis—a pivotal moment when mechanical watchmaking proved its enduring value against the rising tide of quartz technology. The Calibre 5134 adapted to a larger 41 mm case size while keeping the streamlined elegance that the Royal Oak is known for. This movement also features a perpetual calendar, one of the most poetic complications in watchmaking, which measures the time in a way that needs no adjustment for months of varying lengths or even leap years.
The Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition case is crafted from 18-carat white gold, matched with a bracelet of the same material. The use of white gold not only enriches the watch with luxe sophistication but also serves as the perfect canvas to highlight the striking blue “Crystal Sky” dial. While this quarter-million-dollar watch boasts a water resistance of 20 meters, I’d say it’s more for peace of mind than for actual deep-sea diving. After all, who really plans to test those limits with such a masterpiece on their wrist?
18-carat white gold matching bracelet
John Mayer’s passion for this watch is clearly evident through his words and deep involvement in the design process. He views the watch as a portal to a deeper experience and an artistic expression that invites contemplation and connection. “My favorite watches have dials that you can stare endlessly at,” Mayer explains. “A great watch dial feels like a picture window—you look into it, not at it. In the case of this QP, it’s like looking up at a moonless sky. There is a true sense of nature in it.” This reflection captures the watch’s essence, showing it as a canvas that reflects Mayer’s profound appreciation for the nuanced artistry of watchmaking.
Mayer’s engagement was comprehensive; he was involved in every decision, from choosing materials to refining the dial’s specific finish, to ensure that every aspect of the watch aligned with his aesthetic sensibilities. This dedication underscores how the watch goes beyond its functional role to serve as a canvas that mirrors his deep appreciation for the nuanced artistry of watchmaking. Every element of its design, informed by Mayer’s keen artistic eye, invites those who seek not just to tell time but to tell a story.
Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak “John Mayer” Limited Edition
Only 200 pieces of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition will be crafted, making it a rare collectible item for watch enthusiasts and Mayer fans alike. Each piece is a tribute to the legacy of the Calibre 5134 and a celebration of Audemars Piguet’s enduring dedication to excellence in design and functionality. This watch is a masterful blend of precise engineering and striking design, serving as a pinnacle of technical skill and a vivid expression of beauty. It embodies the seamless integration of form and function, where every component measures time and tells a story of artistic excellence.
At Milan Design Week 2024, Lamborghini unveiled the ‘All Terrain’ Ad Personam series for the Huracán Sterrato in a dazzling display that redefined what a super sports car can be. This limited edition series, featuring 12 uniquely designed vehicles, brilliantly reflects the earth’s varied landscapes through sophisticated design and technological advancements.
Designer: Lamborghini’s Ad Personam studio + Centro Stile
Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini, highlighted the Sterrato’s dual nature at the event. He emphasized its capacity as both a performance vehicle and an adventurous explorer, capable of forging new paths with the same ease as it races down a track. The design of the Sterrato, a product of the collaborative genius of Lamborghini’s Ad Personam studio and Centro Stile, embodies this ethos. Each version of the car is painted in a matte camouflage scheme that corresponds to different environments: NEVE (snow), SABBIA (sand), BOSCO (green track), and TERRA (gravel), further accentuated by a matte black finish on the roof, bonnet, and lower body, accented with unique colors, 19” matte black forged rims, and custom caliper colors.
Inside, the Sterrato continues its thematic journey with dark chrome, carbon twill, and Alcantara finishes, enhanced with custom graphics and an Ad Personam plate that reflects the external livery. Mitja Borkert, Head of Design, shared, “The All-Terrain Sterrato is a true Lamborghini in its dynamic abilities and surprises by delivering the unexpected. It’s a joy to drive and ready for any adventure.”
The Milan presentation featured a dramatic stage display with a giant Trompe L’Oeil, created by an Italian artist, setting a perfect backdrop that echoed the power of nature and the promise of adventure.
I must admit, I’m quite envious that Tim Stevens had the opportunity to experience the Sterrato firsthand. In his review, Tim applauded the vehicle for its exceptional all-weather performance, dramatic styling, and the immersive sound of its 5.2-liter V10 engine. Though he pointed out some visibility issues and the absence of ‘Corsa mode,’ the Sterrato was praised for its robust performance across diverse conditions and its distinctive styling that builds on the legacy of the LM002.
He described the interior as maintaining Lamborghini’s luxurious standards with bespoke elements that cater to both comfort and style. The car’s raised suspension and specialized Bridgestone Dueler AT002 tires exemplify its readiness for rugged terrain, while the powerful V10 engine assures a thrilling drive wherever you may roam.
Milan Design Week certainly wouldn’t have felt complete without these gorgeous, beastly performance cars making their mark. And for those now compelled to own one, a quick note: the 12 cars in this special Ad Personam series are already sold out, highlighting the allure and exclusive appeal of the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato.
The event concluded with the unveiling of the Huracán Sterrato, demonstrating Lamborghini’s commitment to innovating car design and performance and marking an exciting new chapter in its legacy, which continues to challenge automotive conventions by merging aesthetic elegance with superior engineering.

From the moment I set my eyes on the Apple Vision Pro, the intuitive nature of its interface struck me. Controlling the device through natural gestures—like tapping fingers together for selection or pinching to zoom—felt like an extension of my own movements, creating a seamless user experience that was truly impressive. “Everything’s all eye track,” I marveled, amazed by the device’s responsiveness, which made every interaction feel intuitive and natural.
Designer: Apple
During the initial setup, the Digital Crown—borrowed from the Apple Watch—brought up the home view with a simple press. The blend of futuristic technology with familiar elements made the icons react as I looked at them, creating a magical experience. This immediate and responsive engagement reinforced the intuitive nature of the user interface. As I explored this advanced technology, I remember thinking, “I haven’t read any reviews on the Vision Pro, and that’s a good thing.” Approaching the device without any preconceptions allowed me to truly immerse myself in the experience.
As I navigated through a demo photo library, the ambient lighting dimmed, focusing my attention on images that transported me to places like Iceland and the Oregon coast, displayed panoramically. “That was so amazing,” I exclaimed, overwhelmed by the vividness and the immersive experience the photos provided.
Viewing spatial photos and videos added incredible depth to everyday moments. Watching a family birthday party captured with the Apple Vision Pro felt as if I stood among the celebrating children, bringing these moments to life. “So no one else can see this except you and me, huh?” I remarked to Avnish, my guide through this journey, who was able to see what I saw through an iPad. This added layer of interaction enhanced my appreciation for the technology as I watched a spatial video shot with the iPhone 15 Pro, captivated by the depth and realism.
The design of the Apple Vision Pro was notably sleek and modern, with a lightweight, comfortable frame suitable for extended wear. The minimal physical buttons enhanced its streamlined appearance, highlighting its advanced gesture and eye-tracking capabilities. A dedicated button for capturing spatial photos and videos added real-world interactions into vivid digital clarity, showcasing Apple’s meticulous attention to hardware design.
Manipulating my environment with a turn of the Digital Crown was particularly impressive. I could adjust my immersion levels from partial to full, exploring digital renditions of places like Mount Hood National Forest as if I were truly there. This smooth transition back to reality, while remaining connected with those around me, showcased the device’s seamless integration into personal and social settings.
Spatial multitasking introduced a new way to interact with applications, allowing me to manipulate windows in a spatial context as if handling physical objects. This dynamic, intuitive approach transformed traditional interfaces into a vibrant, three-dimensional workspace.
The entertainment capabilities of the Apple Vision Pro were striking. Watching 3D movies like “Super Mario Bros. Movie” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” transformed any space into a personal cinema. The high-resolution display and spatial audio created a viewing experience that far surpassed traditional setups. “That’s impressive,” I remarked, blown away by the depth and immersion of the features.
The Apple Immersive Video demo was a highlight, transporting me to the center of the action—flying over landscapes, diving with sharks, and standing on a soccer field. This segment was so engaging that I was left nearly speechless, managing only to say, “That was so amazing.”
An interactive session where a butterfly landed on my hand and a close encounter with a dinosaur showcased the Apple Vision Pro’s unique capabilities, blurring the lines between digital and physical realities. These experiences felt real and tangible, enhancing my appreciation for the device’s ability to create such vivid and interactive moments.
Finally, with the Apple Vision Pro, I got the chance to rehearse—well, more like pretend—to present Apple’s infamous “one more thing” on the stage of the Steve Jobs Theater. It felt so real that I almost waved to the nonexistent crowd! I’ve been to press events there before, but never on stage. The closest I’ve gotten was the last third of the theater.

After the demo—and yes, I highly encourage anyone and everyone remotely interested in spatial computing to visit your local Apple store—I had the option to purchase a brand new Vision Pro constructed right there. The Solo Knit Band, Dual Loop Band, and importantly, the Light Seal are available in size 21W, which fits me perfectly. Apple has streamlined the sizing process in the Apple Store app, which now includes a 3D scan of the face for a customized fit, guiding you through capturing the necessary facial dimensions.
The Apple Vision Pro demo was a breathtaking introduction to futuristic technology that felt straight out of science fiction. Its intuitive interface and gesture controls impressed me immediately, making every interaction feel natural and fluid. While the immersive experience of exploring vibrant, distant locales and engaging with life-like spatial videos was captivating, the demo ended too soon, leaving me eager for a more extended, immersive exploration with the Vision Pro. I’m looking forward to delving deeper into its potential in a longer session.
The Porsche Pepita Edition by Vitra represents a masterful integration of automotive heritage and contemporary design, where each piece fulfills a functional role and also carries a legacy of innovation and timeless design as it finds a place in homes and offices. Vitra’s limited release of iconic chairs, such as the ‘Eames Plastic Side Chair,’ ‘ID Trim L,’ and ‘Petit Repos,’ show the synergy between traditional craftsmanship and modern aesthetics. This houndstooth pattern, a long-standing feature in Porsche interiors since 1965, symbolizes a tradition of exceptional craftsmanship and aesthetic finesse.
Designer: Porsche x Vitra Collab
First introduced in the interiors of Porsche vehicles in the 1960s, the Pepita fabric is a distinctive duotone checkered pattern that resembles abstract four-pointed shapes. It is often rendered in black and white, though it can be incorporated through a specific weaving process that interlaces two contrasting colors to create a visually striking and uniquely recognizable broken check pattern. Pepita fabric has become synonymous with high quality and sophisticated taste.
Initially featured as upholstery in the iconic Porsche 911 models, the rarity of Pepita fabric has increased as fewer manufacturers choose to undertake the labor-intensive production of true houndstooth weaves. This scarcity has made genuine Pepita a coveted element in both the automotive and interior design sectors. Vitra’s reintroduction of this fabric through limited edition pieces revives a classic style and maintains its exclusivity, making it highly treasured among collectors. The combination of its limited availability, storied heritage, and intricate aesthetics solidifies Pepita fabric’s status as a rare and distinctive feature across design and automotive history.
In the 1960s, the introduction of the iconic 911, launched in 1963, exemplified Porsche’s commitment to combining performance with sophisticated comfort. The interior design focused on functionality and luxury, resonating with discerning customers through the use of durable and tactile materials like leather and the stylish Pepita fabric for seat coverings. The clean and driver-oriented dashboard design emphasized ease of use and clear visibility of essential instruments, with the tachometer centrally positioned to align with Porsche’s performance-driven philosophy. Subdued color schemes of blacks, greys, and browns dominated, though brighter colors were also available, reflecting personal preferences and the vibrant styles of the 60s.
The unveiling at the ‘The Art of Dreams’ event in Milan highlights the seamless integration of innovation and design excellence between Vitra and Porsche. The collection prioritizes exclusivity, mirroring significant Porsche models and milestones, such as the ‘Eames Plastic Side Chair Pepita Edition’, limited to 1,963 pieces to commemorate the year Porsche introduced the Pepita option in its 911 model. These chairs are more than functional items; they are collector’s pieces that echo the narratives of their creators and pivotal moments in both design and automotive history, celebrating a rich heritage and the evolution of design.

One of the key features of the Ninja Phone is its seamless integration with the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max. The device is specifically designed to utilize the iPhone’s HDR OLED display as a monitor. This proves advantageous because the iPhone’s screen offers a peak brightness of 1600 nits and a contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1. These features deliver vibrant and precise visuals, which are invaluable for accurate monitoring during shooting.
Moreover, it facilitates recording in Apple ProRes and 10-bit H.265 directly to the iPhone’s internal storage. Professionals widely prefer these formats due to their high quality and flexibility in post-production. This feature allows for superior color grading and editing capabilities, in contrast to the more compressed standard video formats typically generated by mirrorless cameras.
Additionally, the Ninja Phone includes a video co-processor unit that clips onto the iPhone inside a custom case. This unit effectively manages data transfer between the camera and the iPhone, ensuring efficient recording of video feeds without overloading the phone’s primary processor.
There are several connectivity options, including USB-C and HDMI. These connections are secure, featuring locking mechanisms to maintain stable links between the camera, Ninja Phone, and iPhone. Furthermore, it is powered by a single Sony NP battery, offering a convenient and widely available power solution, making battery swaps as needed during extended shoots effortless.
Another key feature includes streaming video feeds directly to Atomos’ Cloud Service using 5G or Wi-Fi, providing a robust live broadcasting or remote monitoring solution. When combined with the Atomos app, users can access professional monitoring tools like focus peaking, zebra stripes, and false color, greatly enhancing the iPhone’s usability as a professional video monitor.

Designed for versatility, the VB212 can power a range of devices simultaneously—from cameras and lights to smartphones like the iPhone. It includes multiple output options: two USB-C ports, a USB-A port for quick device charging, and two D-Tap ports along with specific DC outputs for high-demand equipment.
The battery’s robust design features an intelligent Battery Management System that safeguards against overcurrent, short circuits, overheating, and overvoltage, ensuring the safety and longevity of both the battery and connected devices. Constructed from durable aluminum alloy and coated with silicone, TPU, and PC V0 materials, the VB212 is built to withstand challenging environments, making it suitable for outdoor and demanding settings.
Additionally, its portability and compact frame make it a perfect complement to the iPhone’s mobility, allowing for extended shooting sessions without frequent recharges. This is further supported by the inclusion of USB-C and USB-A ports, which also charge essential mobile videography accessories. A clear TFT display monitors battery status and usage, while silicone covers protect delicate interfaces from dust and damage.
Rode Magnetic Mount
Rode’s Magnetic Mount, compatible with MagSafe-enabled devices, is a robust solution designed for mobile videography. This magnetic mounting system, crafted from high-grade aluminum, offers both durability and lightweight portability, making it ideal for dynamic or harsh shooting environments.
Designer: Rode
The mount’s strong magnet ensures that attached devices, like microphones and lights, remain stable even during active use. Its modular design includes short and long cold shoe arms and a long arm with a 1/4-inch thread, allowing for versatile setups in a variety of configurations to meet diverse filming requirements.
The Magnetic Mount’s compactness enhances its portability, fitting easily into a backpack, kit bag, or pocket. This feature is particularly beneficial for mobile videographers and photographers who require flexibility in their equipment.
For iPhone users, the Magnetic Mount is transformative, providing a stable platform for external accessories. The integration of MagSafe technology secures the attachment, crucial for producing smooth, stable footage. The mount’s design facilitates easy switching between portrait and landscape modes, adding to its functionality and versatility.
I personally like the idea that Rode has taken measures to ensure the Magnetic Mount securely latches on to the iPhone; there’s nothing worse than an expensive iPhone 15 Pro Max flying off during a shoot. The versatility and durability also enhance iPhone users’ capabilities to produce high-quality video content. The magnetic mount aligns well with the iPhone’s advanced features, supporting professional-grade content creation across various settings.
