OpenAI and CommonSense Media team up to curate family-friendly GPTs

You will soon find a kid-friendly section inside OpenAI's newly opened store for custom GPTs. The company has joined forces with Common Sense Media, a nonprofit organization that rates media and technology based on their suitability for children, to minimize the risks of AI use by teenagers. Together, they intend to create AI guidelines and educational materials for young people, their parents and their educators. The two organizations will also curate a collection of family-friendly GPTs in OpenAI's GPT store based on Common Sense's ratings, making it easy to see which ones are suitable for younger users. 

"Together, Common Sense and OpenAI will work to make sure that AI has a positive impact on all teens and families," James P. Steyer, founder and CEO of Common Sense Media, said in a statement. "Our guides and curation will be designed to educate families and educators about safe, responsible use of ChatGPT, so that we can collectively avoid any unintended consequences of this emerging technology."

According to Axios, the partnership was announced at Common Sense's kids and family summit in San Francisco, where OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shot down the idea that AI is bad for kids and should be kept out of schools. "Humans are tool users and we better teach people to use the tools that are going to be out in the world," he reportedly said. "To not teach people to use those would be a mistake." The CEO also said that future high school seniors would be able to operate at a higher level of abstraction and could achieve more that their predecessors with the help of artificial intelligence.

This gorgeous Copper and Carbon Steel Dagger is a Masterclass in Minimalism

As a self-proclaimed EDC aficionado, there’s a certain joy to writing about knives, but there’s an even bigger joy to actually see them be built. If you fancy the latter, look no further than Koss, a YouTuber who’s dedicated his life to building some of the most eclectic knives and recording the entire process for people to see and appreciate. At the end, the knife gets listed on their Etsy store, almost as a reward for the viewers, giving them the opportunity to own one of the artist’s unique works. Each knife is made just once, as Koss creates and uploads the video, creating a sense of preciousness around the knife itself.

This particular beauty is perhaps one of Koss’ most minimal designs ever. It starts off as a simple hollow rectangular copper pipe and a carbon steel billet, which Koss expertly transforms into a beautiful dagger + sheath that focuses on visual purity.

Most knives try to channel an aggressive aesthetic, given the fact that they’re weapons designed to harm and intimidate. The Copper Dagger isn’t that, it’s more of a gentleman’s letter-opener that also serves as an enemy-opener too… which explains why it looks as minimal as it does. The knife eschews any unnecessary detail, relying simply on showcasing its materials. There’s no pocket-clip, no jimping, not even as much as a textured grip. Just a beautiful dagger-point blade with a fuller groove running along the center to provide stiffness and character.

Building the knife is a process that borders on sheer artistry too. Koss starts with a rather rusty-looking billet of steel, which he cuts, machines, sands, and hardens into the blade of the dagger. The dagger’s dimensions are machined to absolute precision, designed to fit snugly into the copper pipe he sourced too. Once ready, Koss soft-hammered the pipe over the dagger, ensuring a tight, glue-less and screwless fit. The full-tang blade then got a bit of sanding done on the back, revealing both the metals with a neat bevel detail.

Sadly, the Copper Dagger didn’t last too long on Koss’ Etsy store. Priced at $420, the dagger saw an immediate buyer who snagged this minimalist beauty. Neuralink’s brain chip has been implanted in a human, Elon Musk says

The first human patient has received a Neuralink brain implant, according to Elon Musk. The procedure was apparently successful, with Musk saying the individual “is recovering well” one day after the surgery.

Neuralink, which aims to create brain-computer interfaces (BCI), began recruiting human patients for its first clinical trial last fall after getting the green light from the FDA. At the time, Neuralink said that people “who have quadriplegia due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)” may qualify for the study. “The initial goal of our BCI is to grant people the ability to control a computer cursor or keyboard using their thoughts alone,” the company wrote in a statement.

Musk didn’t share any other details about the procedure or the status of the trial. He said that “initial results show promising neuron spike detection.” Successfully implanting its device into a human patient would be a major milestone for the company, which Musk has claimed could one day enable people to experience alternate realities. The company is also facing a federal investigation for allegedly violating animal welfare laws.

This Concorde aircraft inspired shooting brake EV boasts aerodynamic design for performance and good looks

Concorde passenger airliner shook up the aviation world when it burst into the scene in 1976. Developed and manufactured in collaboration between the United Kingdom and France, the commercial aircraft was at a level of its own with speeds 2x sound speed. Unfortunately, due to high operating and maintenance costs, the aircraft was finally retired in 2003.

Because you could zip across the Atlantic Ocean, to go from New York to London and vice versa in just three and a half hours, the Concorde deserved more than it got. But that’s a part of history now, and Concorde isn’t returning for supersonic commercial aviation. The next best thing is to take inspiration and design a four-wheeled electric speed monster to commemorate the legacy of the airliner.

Inspired by the aircraft this shooting break concept is exactly what the usual world of automotive concept designs needed. The 3-seater performance electric car dubbed Concorde 20+ Celebrates the legacy of the sound speed barrier-breaking aircraft commissioned for commercial purposes. There’s just one seat on the front for the pilot and two rear seats for the rich owners who enjoy the luxury of a spacious cabin all to themselves.

The active aero elements on the outside and the inside not only tweak the peak performance at high speeds but also bring a sense of fluid design to the vehicle. Just like the Concorde aircraft, the electric car is built for high-speed skirmishes on the freeway, letting the owners know it’s not meant to be driven in cruise mode.

That front pointy section with the futuristic LED panel headlights has a close resemblance to the aircraft honed by the windshield wrapped over the hood. As you can see from some of the side profile renders, the resemblance in shape flowing from the front to the back is so Concorde-like. The long shooting brake design not only maximizes interior space but also adapts the airliner’s overall aero aesthetics. Jump to the rear profile and, the futuristic element is ever so present there too.
