Honda HP-X Concept revived after forty years has the signature wedge-shape and futuristic vibe

This year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will have a head turner in the shape of a classic supercar resurrected to showcase the vision of the future back in the 80s. The Honda HP-X Concept unveiled five decades ago at the 1984 Turin Auto Show is going to debut again at the North American Auto Show.

The mid-engine supercar was designed by Iconic Italian design firm Pininfarina and was marked by its sharp wedge profile. The concept immediately caught attention for its jet-engine-inspired cockpit and Knight Rider-like advanced tech. This will be the first time in more than 50 years that a Japanese vehicle will be showcased at the Pebble Beach event. The prized car restored by the two brands will take on other competing models for the “Wedge-Shaped Concept Cars and Prototypes” class at the 73rd Annual event on August 18, 2024.

According to Dave Marek, Acura design executive and honorary Pebble Beach Concours judge, HP-X was more than just a concept as it inspired the design and engineering of future cars like the Acura NSX. Even after so many years, the car is a living proof of Honda and Pinnifarina’s innovative spirit.  Felix Kilbertus, Pininfarina’s chief creative officer rightly stated that the vehicle had a major influence on “subsequent Honda models and the broader automotive landscape is undeniable.”

The mid-mounted 2.0L DOHC 24-valve V6 engine car has a fighter jet-like entry (yes no doors, not even scissor ones) into the cockpit as the Perspex canopy comes off. It also aids in aerodynamics and doubles as an air brake. HP-X was far ahead of its time with a lightweight body crafted out of carbon fiber, Kevlar and honeycomb paneling. All these materials were rare at that time and of course, cost an exorbitant amount.

This restored version retains the two-tone white and navy blue paint job with red accents. The cockpit has a nostalgic red and white suede interior, along with a button-dominated center stack console. Functionality and comfort take precedence as the car had an in-house developed Electronic Drive Support System, for real-time telemetry data, GPS navigation and adaptability to road conditions.

This pair of hiking pants with adjustable & motorized carbon fiber module lets you climb with less muscle fatigue

Would it be fair to set out in a pair of robotic pants to cover all 47 miles of the West Coast Trail in Vancouver, British Columbia, in record time without breaking a sweat? You’d say why not, but anyone who’s been there in excruciating pain and sweat will call out cheating. Of course, it wouldn’t be fair to make a record claim with MO/GO on but it may surely be worth bragging.

Exoskeletons and wearable mobility devices have been around for decades. Obviously, the main focus of such devices has been on assisting seniors or those with mobility issues in rehabilitation, to gain strength and independence. But if you have been following us closely, you’d know that there is a new trend on the way. Wearable robots, such as the WIM mobility assist wearable device created by WIRobotics, are being built to assist the healthy strengthen their lower limbs or walk with more confidence and freedom saving up to 20 percent energy.

Now, MO/GO is a wearable pair of robotic pants conjured up “to support and inspire adventure in a new kind of way.” Short for mountain goat, MO/GO is designed by Skip – a Google’s research and development wing, X, spinout – in collaboration with Arc’teryx, to help people tackle any elevation with less muscle fatigue and body exertion. It “makes you feel up to 30 pounds lighter as you move,” the developers suggest.

Skip is taking pre-orders for the $5,000 MO/GO, right now for a $500 discount. The $5K powered pant is the first of its kind clothing featuring an adjustable boomerang-like carbon fiber module that snaps onto the pants – at the knees and extends over the quadricep and hamstring muscles – to provide up to 40 percent boast to your legs on the way up. It gently supports the legs on the way down, and can snap off effortlessly to be stowed away when you don’t need it.

When you think of putting on something like the MO/GO on your legs, you would be concerned about the weight it would add on. Interestingly, the carbon fiber construction makes it exceptionally lightweight. It weighs only two pounds (with an onboard motor) and is powered by a battery for hours of usage. Charge it once on your way out be rest assured, you’ll make it safely back home no matter the strenuous trail you’re climbing up.

Google Pixel Watch 3 leak reveals more details about the upcoming wearable

Before every gadget is released officially it must go through the rumor mill to keep things spiced up for prospective buyers and reviewers. Google Pixel Watch 3 slated for an August 13 release will take on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 head-on with its rounded dial and we hope it doesn’t have any inaugural issues like battery drain.

We’ve already seen OnLeaks and 91Mobiles reveal the first batch of design and specification details for Google’s upcoming wearables. Now another spar of leaked marketing material by Android Headlines reveals more information. The highlighting one has 10 percent more screen space than the predecessor – the Pixel Watch 2.

Going by the leaked information, the Watch 3 could have a brighter display at 2,000 nits which is almost double the Watch 2, courtesy of the in-house Actua Display. According to the specs sheet, the smartwatch will get 24 hours of battery life with AOD enabled and around 36 hours if you opt for the battery saver mode. The charging speed of the 41mm model will be 20 percent better than the predecessor, although no mention of the 44mm model is there. That directly implies that the new smartwatch will not employ the hybrid interface on the Wear OS 4.

On the software front, the Watch 3 can stream live Google Home videos from your Nest Cam or Nest Doorbell. The user will also get the option to toggle between image and video feed when controlling the phone’s camera from the watch. There’ll also be voice support and quick access to apps including Maps and Wallet. Fitness is going to be another focal point of the interface with workout tracking. It’ll have audio and haptic feedback for initiating a spring, run or cooldown. For better workout planning, the Fitbit morning brief offers a summary of health and fitness metrics.

According to Android Headlines, the Pixel Watch 3 will be available in Matte Black Aluminum with an Obsidian band and Polished Silver Aluminum with a Porcelain band. Model-specific colors include the Champagne Gold Aluminum with a Hazel band for 41mm, and Matte Hazel Aluminum with a Hazel band for 45mm. The band options are going to be plentiful with Active Band, Woven Band, Metal Link Band, Crafted Leather Band and Performance Loop Band each having a further set of color options. According to the leak Google will offer exclusive options for the 41mm model that’ll include Strech Band, Metal Mesh Band, Metal Slim Band and Two-Tone Leather Band.

Samsung unveils recycled Hershey’s-themed accessories for new Flip, Fold, and Galaxy watch

The loved chocolate company, Hershey’s, is a household name, but it contributed roughly 24,000 metric tons of waste in 2023. Through a collaborative and conscious effort, The Hershey Company is assisting Samsung develop custom accessories for its lineup of phones, watches, and earbuds. All of these are made from recycled material comprising Hershey’s plastic packaging waste that would otherwise end in landfills.

Interestingly, the collaborative accessories are part of the new Samsung Friends lineup. Samsung Friends is a lifestyle accessories wing of the South Korean tech giant, which aligns partnerships with different brands to create collaborative accessories through the uses of eco-friendly materials. It currently has 17 such collaborations – with Minions, Disney, Pokémon and more – to its credit and with accessories made using recycled material from Hershey’s confectionary packaging waste, it is making a new story.

Samsung Friends x Hershey’s collection was officially launched in South Korea on 29 July, 2024. Inspired by the packaging of Hershey’s Kisses, milk chocolate bars, and more; the 12 unique accessories include Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Buds3 series cases and bands.

There is no word on the pricing structure of the accessories, but Samsung Friends will allow customers to interact and customize their accessories in Hershey’s pop-up at Samsung’s Gangnam through 11 August, 2024. Customers can live experience the cases and bands made from 100% recycled material and also savor Hershey’s limited-edition chocolate beverages alongside.

Currently, the lineup of these Hershey’s-themed accessories is only available in South Korea, but the US release is likely in the near future. Tech company informs that the Samsung Friends x Hershey’s collection will also be made available in Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines soon.

Sony Astro Bot-Edition PS5 Dual Sense controller is a livened-up peripheral with Googly Eyes

Astro Bot, the Mario-like adventure game for PS5, developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment and team Asobi, is all set to arrive on September 6. On the same day debuts, the limited-edition Astro Bot controller, based on the reliable DualSense controller by Sony. The lively peripheral will cost a bit more than the normal wireless DualSense version, but it does come with some perks that’ll excite gamers.

The pint-sized robot featured in the game has become a modern-day PlayStation mascot, and to have a controller that blinks its googly eyes is exciting for fans. This limited edition Astro Bot PS5 DualSense gamepad is priced at $80 and will be available for pre-orders from August 9 at PlayStation Direct in the US and UK at select retailers.

This special gamepad is unsurprising as Sony has previously launched themed controllers including the limited edition PlayStation 5 Spider-Man Miles Morales console. According to the Japanese consumer electronics giant, the themed wireless controller “is a work of art” and we can see why. The touchpad has robotic blue eyes that seem like blinking, while the handles and buttons have signature blue hues.

Another interesting thing is the number of textures (like grass, metal, sand, water, or glass) that the player feels through the haptic feedback. The adaptive trigger response further enhances the overall experience. Things like the feeling of the thruster rattle when the Barkster bulldog jetpack is deployed, the power-ups going through your fingers, or the impacts of the one-on-one battles in the boss fights. This Dual Speeder gadget can be felt as the motion-controlled input for the spaceship too.

The sensory feeling is matched with the sound effects for a complete experience of the upcoming title. The blue accents on the handles and buttons are carved in a sci-fi theme which makes owning this controller special. If you too love Astro Bot, it’ll be a wise decision to hit the pre-order button when the floodgates open. For those who already own the standard DualSense version, it would make more sense to go for the feature-loaded DualSense Edge controller.

Google Chromecast Rebrands to ‘Google TV Streamer’ and comes with a new flat tabletop design

It was a long time due and now news has it, the new Chromecast version is on the horizon. Though it’s not called the Chromecast anymore and neither does it look the same: as it hides behind the TV HDMI dongle. It is more articulately designed (as seen in pictures) and delivered in a more recognizable set-top-like form factor.

The successor to the Chromecast is likely to be called the “Google TV Streamer.” Pitted as a natural rival to the Apple TV, this new 4K streaming device from Google has a slanted top, resting on a firm block base, and a nice white color theme to it. Of course, it’s starkly different from the compact dongle Chromecast, but it retains the “Google TV” branding, 9to5Google reports.

The new design of the Google TV Streamer is accompanied by a remote control, which is slightly longer than the previous remote of the Chromecast, and also has some upgrades in design and feel. The steaming box itself seems to be connected to two cables at the back, as apparent in images, which could be for “power and HDMI.”

The remote is led by the D-Pad on the top followed by the back and a gray-colored home button. The volume buttons are removed from the side to appear on the front below the home button, while the voice input on its left is a simple microphone. The Google Assistant branding is gone. What is this indicative of, it’s only for the time to tell, but without the Google labeling the remote looks pretty straightforward.

That said, it does have shortcut buttons for YouTube and Netflix, while at the bottom of the remote face is the power button and the customizable star shortcut. We, as mentioned above, do not have a definite release date or the supposed pricing of the new Chromecast variant yet. The Google TV Streamer could, however, make its debut alongside the new range of Google Pixel phones, smartwatches, and other goodies at “Made by Google,” the tech giant’s next hardware event scheduled on August 13.

Welcome to the perfect Aussie creation that does this bit alongside allowing us to open the hatch and cook up a feast. We are talking about the G-47 teardrop trailer by Queensland-based marine-grade mobile home builders, Goliath Campers.

Every trailer builder has some distinction to their credit. For Goliath, it is their off-road camper trailers, carefully constructed with top-quality marine-grade material and finished in eye-catching hues. G-47 model is no different: it’s a hard-shelled living unit that features off-grid capability – water storage, 200Ah lithium battery, solar panel, and 2000W inverter – a swing-out grill for barbeques on the go, and a flip-up rainfall shower for hot baths in the cold wilderness.

All this and more fits within a compact 15.4-foot-long trailer that rides on a Cruisemaster independent suspension system and twin shock absorbers to accord it off-roading ability. Regarded as a teardrop trailer, despite its unique body crafted from foam core fiberglass, the G-47 features a hatch kitchen accessible from the outside. It includes an induction cooker, Weber BBQ grill, wine rack, sink, 65-litre fridge with freezer, 300-litre cupboard, and diesel hot water system.

Pint-sized Jeep Dune buggy is tailored for cities and casual off-roading escapades

There’s something about dune buggies that fits the bill, both for urban and off-roading scenarios. Citroën’s My Ami Buggy concept proved that right and now yet another one from the house of Jeep gives us a glimpse of an electrified city car plus an off-road vehicle. Dubbed Jeep Dune concept the vehicle derives inspiration from My Ami Buggy, and it shows from the renders.

The rugged mini vehicle is crafted for Gen-Z by acclaimed French designer Emmanuel Klissarov who’s worked for GM, Mercedes-Benz and Renault. This collaboration comes as a result of the effort by Jeep and Citroën (both owned by Stellantis automotive group) to comply with the in-house vision of making advanced electric vehicle concepts.

Both the buggies have a lot in common, right from the open-air design and unique styling to the rugged exteriors keeping in mind off-roading needs. In fact, the Dune gets its platform from Ami which is a front-wheel drive configuration. The car is tailored for short urban commutes and off-roading day trips to the outskirts. It will be powered by a 8 hp motor and 5.4 kWh battery mated to the powertrain. Given its size and the battery capacity, the promised 46 miles per charge range is not bad.

Other details of the two-seater Dune buggy include customizable exterior options, perforated fabric doors, a built-in cooler, and even space to fit a DJ booth.  These unique features ensure the general perception of EVs is revisited to being something that is more fun and practical. Other than the usual city and off-road trail escapades, the vehicle is perfect for beach explorations and resort scouting. This makes it a good option for commercial settings as well.

The raw weight of the vehicle is 1,00 pounds which is less than Ami, owing to the plastic body panels. The size of the buggy is comparable to an ATV at just 95 inches long, 55 inches wide and 60 inches tall. So you can call it an all-electric UTV. While the Ami costs $5,500 in Europe, we should expect a slightly lower price tag for this one when and if it eventually hits the roads.

This Fallout-inspired PC case mod looks rugged, conceals high-end computing power inside

PC case mods hold merit both for beefing up the computing power and showing off the computer’s internal hardware. While the ordinary might stop at that, a few go beyond the normal to craft case mods that turn eyeballs. The Sentinel Cypher PC case mod by AK Mod for Klevv is the latest example.

This PC case mod showcased at Computex, Taipei has a retrofuturistic vibe, themed on the Fallout world. That rustic look with the old-school PC housing is made for a post-apocalyptic bunker or an advanced space station in some other galaxy, safe from the scavengers outside.

The rugged look of the PC case with exposed wires, dirty panels and the jarred software interface is something straight out of a space wreck. The rustic mouse and the huge GPU fans complement the look well. This is intentional to represent the dystopian grim theme but don’t let that chalkiness fool you. Concealed hardware on the inside is as potent as it can get. It makes sense since Klevv (known for its high-end RAM and SSDs) displayed the mod at the high-tech annual event.

The water-cooled PC houses an intel 17-14700K processor, ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card, ROG Strix Z790-I Gaming WiFi motherboard, 6 TB KLEVV Genuine G650 and KLEVV Cras C925 SSD, Noctua NF A625 PWM fan, and 96 GB DDR5 KLEVV CRAS V and Urbane memory. Peripherals include a ROG Azoth keyboard and Lofree Tri-Mode Wireless mouse. As for potent cooling, the mod gets EKWB EK-Quantum Velocity² DDC 4.2 PWM D-RGB, EKWB EK-CryoFuel Clear, and EKWB EK-Quantum Torque Fittings.

The steampunk-ish monitor completely lifts like a car’s boot to reveal the motherboard for an even more industrial look, if you as a user want to show off when not using all that computing power. Sentinel Cypher PC case mod is a work of sci-fi art that packs a lot of punch in its measly abandoned computer in a space station form!
