This Tiny Electric Grater lets you rain heaps of Parmesan Cheese over your Pasta and Salads

Meet Grater Rain, the first and only handheld, one-touch cheese grater. Simply push the button and rain heaps of Parmesan cheese over your Pasta and Salads. No more workouts every time you want to enjoy your favorite cheese or chocolate on your food. The one-press electric grater lets you simply remove the lower housing from the refrigerator, attach the upper drive housing, and push the button for instant grated cheese. Grater Rain is the only grater designed to store your cheese and or chocolate in the refrigerator, completely sealed in the housing. Three grater discs let you choose between fine, coarse, and shaved grating, and all you really need to do is hold the Grater Rain over your pasta, salad, pizza, sandwich, or frankly even your mouth as the grater delivers perfect Parmesan goodness at the press of a button. Swap out the hard cheese for a block of chocolate and you can use it over coffees, desserts, or a nice hot chocolate too. The entire process takes 10 seconds from refrigerator to grated goodness on your plate.

The Grater Rain automates a process that has traditionally required a fair amount of elbow grease. There was a time when whipping cream, mixing dough, or juicing fruit was done manually by hand… until the electric whisk, KitchenAid, and the blender made life easier. Grater Rain does the same for hard cheeses and chocolates, automating the process of grating or shaving just by pressing a button. The Grater Rain’s design splits into two parts – the container, which holds the food, and the motor, which gives you one-button grated food. When detached, the container should be stored in a fridge, helping prolong your food’s shelf life while giving you a convenient container to hold your cheese or chocolate. The motor, on the other hand, stays outside, lasting months between charges. Attach both modules and the Grater Rain is ready to douse your food in copious amounts of Parmesan. Press a button and it gets to work, automatically grating till you get it to stop.

Shaved Cheese!

Coarse Cheese

Fine Cheese

The lower container element comes with a nifty refrigerator-friendly design. A hollow interior lets you load the cheese or chocolate of your choice. Hard cheeses like Parmesan, Pecorino, Grana-Padano, or Manchego work best, and any solid block of chocolate will work too, as long as it’s right out of the fridge. One end of the container has a piston, which interfaces with the motor, and the other has the grating plate, which can be swapped out depending on whether you want fine/coarse grating, or shavings.

Various Blades

The upper element features a rechargeable battery-powered motor that works for 3 months on a full charge (that’s a LOT of cheese). A single button powers the entire device, and to get started, all you do is take the lower container out of the fridge, lock it into the upper motor, and hit the power button. The Grater Rain instantly (and consistently) grates over your food, with an enclosed blade design that lets even kids safely use the electric grater. Once you’re done, detach the lower container and put it back in the fridge – you don’t need to clean the Grater Rain between uses, like you would most traditional graters… and when you run out of cheese/chocolate, all of the lower housing components are dishwasher safe so they can all go into the dishwasher for periodic cleaning.

Chocolate Shavings!

The entire contraption stands at 8.4 inches tall or splits into a 4.1-inch container that goes in the fridge, and a 4.3-inch motor that charges using USB-C. The Grater Rain comes with a 3-year warranty, and the company even makes electric salt and pepper grinders that let you season your food like you’re living in the year 2040!

Raised On Stilts, This Wooden Home Features An Interesting Elevated Layout

Designed by Argentinian architectural studio Berson-Sardin, the Case Libélula is located in the Delta Río Paraná. It is a stunning home occupying 95 sq m and is inspired by the lovely elegance of a dragonfly. The home is raised on stilt-like pilings, which look like the legs of a dragonfly! The home has been elevated to provide protection against frequent flooding. It was built using local traditional construction techniques, which have been used by the people of the area for ages galore. The dwelling was constructed using mainly wood while allowing it to merge with the surrounding landscape. The floorplan of the home is a contemporary take on the local architectural style, exhibiting a new geometric design.

Designer: Berson-Sardin

The home is formed like a massive shaded gallery featuring outward-opening glass facades which convert the indoor space into a cool, and well-regulated area. This design supports cross-ventilation and shading, ensuring that the interiors are always cool irrespective of the weather outside. The home doesn’t utilize synthetic paints and varnishes, in fact, the wooden elements are untreated, allowing them to age naturally. Some of the wooden elements have also been charred to ensure future maintenance isn’t required.

The Casa Libélula includes three interconnected volumes. The bigger volume contains the public spaces like the living room, kitchen, and dining room, while the smaller volumes include the private spaces such as the bedrooms. These different sections feature a cladding of charred wood planks, and they’re all connected via a glass-walled entrance hall. This unique design offers privacy, by projecting the bedrooms ahead, closing them off from the public eye.

The home also includes an ascending and descending platform system which forms an intriguing and dynamic architectural promenade. This promenade moves through the entire home. It starts at the dock and follows a diagonal route that interconnects the ends of the home. These interesting platforms provide different views of the house and the landscape. The three massive volumes team up with this system perfectly, serving as lookout points that can be used for meditation, stargazing, and watching sunsets.

The Pearl Chandelier puts pearl-shaped bulbs within metal sconce ‘oysters’ for a grand lighting aesthetic

Although pearls aren’t the first thing that come to your mind when you look at this chandelier, Waxy Design Studio’s Pearl Chandelier manages to weave a unique aesthetic out of its original starting point. The chandelier comes with multiple lighting elements mounted around it in a ring, creating an almost jewel-like experience. Each individual metal cone or sconce has a pearl-shaped lightbulb inside it, turning the chandelier into a necklace for your ceiling, and making the metal sconces have the concealing appeal of an oyster that just lets you peek in to see the pearl.

Designer: Waxy Design Studio

The chandelier comes in two styles – white or black, with an interplay against the golden metal color on the inside and the golden frame itself. Each chandelier has precisely 20 sconces or lighting elements, made of curved metal sheets. The light sits within the sheet, shining through the opening in the folds. It’s perhaps a very liberally abstract way to represent an oyster, but then again, the chandelier does focus the light both downwards as well as upwards, helping scatter the light in a meaningful and functional way. It does have a stunning appeal too, with the 20 sconces coming together almost like a necklace.

“Each Pearl Light unit encapsulates a delicate balance between the luminosity of the pearl and the protective embrace of metal, mirroring the relationship between an oyster and its precious gem,” says Waxy Design Studio. “This juxtaposition creates a visually striking and emotionally resonant lighting fixture that enhances any space with its unique charm.”

Meticulous attention to detail is evident in the seamless integration of the ‘pearls’ and metal components. Advanced production techniques ensure both the structural integrity of the piece and the delicate diffusion of light through the pearl. The result is a captivating play of light and shadow, inviting viewers to appreciate the fixture from various perspectives.

Genius Two-Part Saddle moves as you bicycle to let you go long distances without soreness

The excitement of learning to ride a bicycle came with the realization that the more time you rode the more pain was inflicted on the butts. Yes, those days of early riding were all about non-stop riding the bike as speeds increased with every confidence boost, and the consequent sore rear by the end of the day.

To keep any bicycle true to the basics and long-lasting, the saddle has to be firm and contoured for maximum comfort. That however is counterintuitive as the seat can be uncomfortable during long rides. The solution is to prevent the body part from being pushed against a stationary support surface. How do you do that? With a movable saddle mechanism that doesn’t strain your butts. Thank god!

Designer: ataraxyBSC

The story of this unique bike saddle’s development started with the idea of a compliant bicycle seat in 2016 by Australian engineer Robin Macan. Sometime after that, he met with industrial designer Philippe Guichard to take things further and create a two-part bicycle saddle that makes it ultra-comfortable for riders no matter the length of time they paddle. This ultimately led to the partnership with Melbourne-based Whistle Design Group to take the vision further and develop an actual product.

Macan finally created his startup ataraxyBSC to solve the problem of a pain-inducing bicycle saddle that’s been left in the shadow for decades. The solution is the vabsRider bicycle saddle with a split seat design. This simple yet clever saddle moves with the movement of legs, rotating around the hip joints to eliminate any pressure-inducing surface contact. Both the sides move independently with the leg movement, transferring pressure from the sit bones to the femurs, This creates a balanced load distribution, and gone are the sore muscles when bicycling for long hours at a stretch.

The user can further adjust the fore/aft and height, or toggle the angle or width of the saddle. The latter I’ve always wondered why no one thought about before. There’s no word about the pricing or availability of the vabsRider bicycle saddle, but you can express your willingness as an early adopter by emailing ataraxyBSC.

Apple Pay Later is dead, long live Affirm loans

Apple Pay Later is kaput. The company confirmed to TechCrunch on Monday that it’s killing the service only two years after first announcing it at WWDC 2022 — and only seven months after it became available to everyone in the US.

The company said at its developer conference last week that loans through third-party service Affirm are coming to Apple Pay later this year, so the two would have been redundant. “Users in the U.S. will also be able to apply for loans directly through Affirm when they check out with Apple Pay,” the company wrote in a newsroom post after its WWDC keynote.

According to TechCrunch, Pay Later is already disabled as an option when checking out with Apple Pay, and it won’t accept any new loans moving forward. However, those with current payment plans can still access those through the Wallet app.

“Starting later this year, users across the globe will be able to access installment loans offered through credit and debit cards, as well as lenders, when checking out with Apple Pay,” Apple wrote in a statement to TechCrunch. “With the introduction of this new global installment loan offering, we will no longer offer Apple Pay Later in the U.S.”

Amazon is developing a live action Totally Spies series

A live-action adaptation of Totally Spies is now in production at Amazon. According to a report from Variety, Will Ferrell is the executive producer of the live-action series based on the popular 2000s animated series from French media company Banijay Kids, formerly known as Marathon Media.

The live-action Totally Spies will follow Sam, Clover and Alex as they balance saving the world as international spies working for the agency WOOHP with tackling schoolwork and social lives as college freshmen. No actors have been cast as any of the iconic girls, nor are writers attached to the project just yet.

The original Totally Spies was created by Vincent Chalvon-Demersay and David Michel, and it revolved around the three aforementioned teenage girls from Beverly Hills, California as they are recruited by WOOHP to solve worsening crimes that arise around the world. They’re equipped with spy gear disguised as women’s accessories such as hair dryers, high-heel shoes and lipstick. It’s like an animated Charlie’s Angels, except the girls actually see their boss in person.

Since its premiere in 2002, the series aired over 180 episodes, as well as spawned a prequel movie and a spin-off show, The Amazing Spiez. The seventh season of Totally Spies premiered in France last month after a nearly ten-year break, and it will air on Cartoon Network and Max in the US later this year.
