You can now search the Epstein emails in a simulated Gmail tab

Here's some light — and revolting! — reading while we wait for the Epstein Files to be released (or stonewalled). You can now peruse the Jeffrey Epstein emails, recently released by Congress, in a simulated Gmail account.

"You're logged in as Jeffrey Epstein," the Jmail website reads. (Ick.) Luke Igel, CEO of Kino, and software engineer Riley Walz collaborated on the project. The latter is one of the creators of the Panama Playlists, which (in a similar light) turned Spotify's lax privacy into a website for public figures' "leaked" musical tastes.

Jmail is about as faithful a recreation of Gmail as you could imagine. Just like a real inbox, the messages are sorted from the most recent, up to the eve of Epstein's 2019 arrest for the sex trafficking of minors. It includes a working search feature.

The US House Oversight Committee released the emails on November 12. Their revelations put Donald Trump's relationship with the sex trafficker back in the spotlight. The president's name appears many times in the more than 20,000 documents. In one, the late sex offender claimed Trump "knew about the girls."

In a 2011 email to Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein said Trump "spent hours at my house" with someone whose name was redacted. (The committee said it was a victim.) In a 2017 thread, Epstein described the current president as "worse in real life and upclose." In 2018, the disgraced financier boasted he was "the one able to take [Trump] down."

Another public figure who came out looking even worse than before was the Andrew formerly known as "Prince" (Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor). He told Epstein in 2011, "We're in this together." Then there's former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers. He stayed in touch with Epstein as recently as 2019, long after the latter's 2008 arrest for soliciting underage sex. In the wake of the email dump, Summers was put on leave from Harvard and resigned from OpenAI's board.

Australia is adding Twitch to its social media ban for children

The breadth and reach of Australia's pioneering social media ban grows as livestream platform Twitch has now been added to the list of banned platforms for users under 16 years of age. The nationwide ban is the first of its kind and encompasses Facebook, X, TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube and recently Reddit.

According to the BBC, Australia's eSafety Commissioner Julie Inman Grant said Twitch had been included because it was "a platform most commonly used for livestreaming or posting content that enables users, including Australian children, to interact with others in relation to the content posted."

No other platforms are expected to be added before the law goes into effect next month. Grant also said on Friday that Pinterest would not be included in the ban because the core purpose of the platform was not online social interaction.

Under the ban, platforms are expected to take "reasonable steps" to prevent underage users from accessing their platforms, and face steep fees for failure to comply. While VPNs may provide a workaround in some instances, the law still creates an enormous barrier to entry for users under 16.

Earlier this month, Denmark announced its lawmakers had reached a bipartisan agreement to enact a similar ban for users under 15, though details were scarce. In the US, several states have attempted to enact such a ban including Texas and Florida, though these measures either failed to pass or are held up in court. Even laws that don't go as far, such as Utah's law requiring parents to grant permission for teens to open social media accounts, are facing stiff opposition on First Amendment grounds.

Concern around minors' social media continues to grow in the zeitgeist as evidence mounts surrounding the potential ill effects these platforms have on their youngest users.

Scamp X: After 54 Years, the Iconic Egg Camper Finally Goes Off-Road

After more than five decades of crafting lightweight fiberglass travel trailers in Backus, Minnesota, Scamp Trailers has unveiled something entirely new. The Scamp X marks the company’s first purpose-built off-road model, transforming the beloved “egg camper” into a rugged adventure machine that refuses to let pavement dictate your destination. The most striking update sits underneath. Scamp swapped its traditional axle for a Timbren independent long-travel suspension system, giving each wheel the freedom to articulate over challenging terrain without transferring shock to its twin.

This setup works alongside beefy ST235/75R15 off-road tires and an impressive 18 inches of ground clearance. The approach and departure angles measure 17 and 22 degrees, respectively, making genuine backcountry exploration accessible to drivers who previously limited themselves to established campgrounds. Outside, the Scamp X sheds its cheerful aesthetic for something more tactical. A black Fiamma awning replaces the usual chrome fittings, while a custom roof rack provides mounting points for up to 400 watts of solar panels. That power feeds directly into the camper’s electrical system, making extended boondocking trips genuinely viable.

Up front, an optional Strongberg storage rack offers space for generators, extra gear, and all the equipment serious off-roaders accumulate over time. A lock-and-roll articulating hitch comes standard, ensuring the trailer can follow your vehicle through uneven terrain without binding. The interior received equal attention during the redesign. Scamp replaced the standard dinette layout with a U-shaped configuration that maximizes seating and social space. New cushions in updated fabrics complement a fresh countertop design, while rubber coin flooring throughout the cabin stands up to muddy boots and wet gear far better than traditional carpet or vinyl.

The air conditioning unit hides beneath the rear dinette bench, freeing up valuable wall space. A portable Bluetooth speaker mounts into the design, and an accessory panel puts electrical connections exactly where modern adventurers need them. Two floor plans accommodate different camping styles. The Trek eliminates the bathroom, prioritizing living space for those comfortable with campground facilities or portable solutions. The Altitude offers the same U-shaped dinette and updated finishes but incorporates a front bathroom for travelers who prefer full amenities.

The Scamp X arrives as the Minnesota manufacturer expands its Backus factory to meet growing demand. Current production sits around 650 units annually, with wait times stretching to 14 months. The company sells directly to customers without dealer networks, maintaining control over quality and customization. Traditional Scamp models range between $19,000 and $40,000, depending on length and options. Pricing for the X hasn’t been officially announced, though the extensive upgrades suggest a premium over standard models.

For “Scampers,” as the devoted community calls themselves, the X represents something many have requested for years: the ability to take their iconic egg-shaped trailer beyond maintained roads and into genuine wilderness. Whether it succeeds in attracting a new generation of off-road enthusiasts while satisfying longtime fans remains to be seen, but Scamp’s willingness to evolve after 54 years suggests they’re serious about this next chapter.

Ubisoft made a prototype game with voice-controlled AI teammates

Ubisoft has announced a new game prototype featuring voice-controlled AI teammates that understand visual context and natural language. This "Teammates" project builds on the Neo NPCs Ubisoft showed off with Nvidia in 2024 to demo in-game AI that can naturally respond to players. A key difference this time, besides the complexity of the interactions the prototype supports, is that Teammates is already being played in a closed playtest with "a few hundred players," Ubisoft says.

Teammates, even if Ubisoft describes it as a playable "experimental research project," still uses the basic concepts of a first-person shooter. The prototype casts players as "a member of the resistance in a dystopian future, tasked with moving through an enemy base to locate five missing members of their team," where directing in-game AI characters is key to success. Ubisoft came up with three AI NPCs for the project, "Jaspar," an AI assistant with awareness of in-game lore and the ability to adjust game settings on the fly, and "Pablo" and "Sofia," robotic characters that are physically present in the game and can respond to commands.

Based on footage shared with Engadget, Ubisoft's AI characters not only understand voice commands, but also have a visual awareness of what the player is seeing. A direction to "stand behind a barrel" prompted Sofia to take into consideration where the player was looking and position itself appropriately. In the version of Teammates available in the closed playtest, Ubisoft also uses Jaspar to onboard and teach players about the basics of the game. In most cases, the AI characters seemed overly chatty and verbose, but Ubisoft is experimenting with letting players choose sets of personalities for Sofia and Pablo — including an option curiously labelled "Bad Cat and Good Boy" — that can change up how each character expresses itself.

"This technology opens doors to new, personalized experiences," Ubisoft's Data & AI Director Rémi Labory shared in the Teammates announcement. "Player input shapes character reactions in real time, something traditional development can't achieve. We're also delivering a full pipeline, with the experience taking players from onboarding to debrief, which is a first."

Ubisoft has explored applying generative AI to other parts of the development process in the past. The company's Ghostwriter tool, introduced in 2023, uses AI to generate first drafts of in-game dialogue. Ubisoft also recently adimitted to publishing Anno 117: Pax Romana without removing its AI-generated loading screen art.

Ultimately, the underlying technology powering Teammates could appear in other Ubisoft projects in the future. The company is collecting feedback from its playtest to apply towards future research, but Ubisoft suggests the middleware it created for Teammates already works with both its Snowdrop and Anvil engines, opening up the tool for future teams to use in their games.

Google is testing ads in AI Mode

We now know what Google's ongoing tests for AI Mode ads look like. An SEO consultant named Brodie Clark spotted the company inserting ads into query results from its AI Mode. These ads show up in the bottom of search results in the Gemini-powered AI Mode. They are labeled as "sponsored" content, but otherwise look similar to other links whipped up by the chatbot.

Despite Clark's claims that this was "the first time ever," a Google spokesperson says the result shown is akin to similar tests it's been running this year. "People seeing ads in AI Mode in the wild is simply part of Google's ongoing tests, which we've been running for several months," the spokesperson said. The push to start offering ads in AI Mode was announced in May. The company also told 9to5Google that there are no current plans to fully update AI Mode to incorporate ads. Those are nice words, but AI has to make money somehow and ads seem to be a good way to do that.

For now, the software seems to be prioritizing organic links over sponsored links, but we all know how insidious ads can be once the floodgates open. AI presents an especially slippery slope here, as these chatbots are often advertised as personal assistants. I don't really want a personal assistant barking ads at me 24/7.

Incidentally, there doesn't seem to be any way to hide the aforementioned sponsored links. Google Search lets users hide sponsored results once they scroll past them.

It sure looks like our free ride is already coming to an end, as AI companies are really speedrunning through that whole enshittification thing. X recently announced that it would be incorporating ads into query results

There are also rumors that OpenAI has been hiring people to turn ChatGPT into an ad platform. That company's recently-launched AI social media slop factory Sora reportedly burns through $15 million a day generating videos of Sam Altman eating pizza in space or whatever.

Update, November 21, 5PM ET: This story was updated after publish with comment from Google clarifying the ads in AI Mode are part of an ongoing test and there are no plans to roll ads out to more users at this point.

Android 16 starts rolling out to Nothing Phones

Nothing Phone 3 owners, your Android 16 update is here. Owners of other models? Well, you’ll have to wait a bit longer. Regardless, the company's Nothing OS 4.0 update brings Google's newest mobile software, along with a bunch of UI tweaks.

In addition to Android 16, Nothing OS 4.0 should deliver a smoother, zippier experience. The company promises "faster responses, cleaner visuals, smoother interactions" and more. Along those lines, app transitions, the notification shade and gestures have been redesigned to respond "with sharper tactility and depth."

Nothing also redesigned its first-party icons, with cleaner, more minimal styling. "The home screen feels balanced, modern and comfortable to use," the company claims. Status bar icons have been refined, drawing inspiration from Android 16’s stylings. There are also new lock-screen clocks to choose from, and an "extra dark mode" (in addition to standard dark mode), designed for nighttime reading.

The Glyph Interface has always been one of Nothing's most unique features, and it gets some updates, too. Glyph Progress integrates with Android 16's Live Updates. "Rides, deliveries, and timers now sync across your screen and the Glyph Interface," as the company describes it.

You can read up on all the changes on the release page. Nothing OS 4.0 is rolling out now to the Nothing Phone 3. Most other devices will start seeing it "over the coming weeks." The company's (recently spun off) CMF brand devices will receive the update by the end of 2025. Finally, Phone 3a Lite owners have to wait until "early next year."

TWIST Bends One Metal Sheet Into Table, Storage, and Handle

Side tables usually end up as simple flat discs on legs, doing little more than holding a drink or a phone you keep checking when you should be reading. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it also means they contribute almost nothing else to a room beyond a horizontal surface. The growing interest in compact, multi-functional furniture has designers rethinking how small pieces like side tables can quietly add storage and flexibility without cluttering a space.

The TWIST side table uses a single sheet of metal looping in a circular motion to form a tabletop, support, and storage all at once. It integrates a carry handle and a book compartment, with a wooden base adding warmth to balance the cool metal. The whole piece reads like a ribbon frozen mid-twist rather than a collection of separate parts, giving it a sculptural quality that works even when it’s not holding anything.

The geometry is surprisingly simple once you trace it. The metal rises from the floor as a vertical panel, bends into a round tabletop with a large central cut-out, then drops down and curls into an oval storage bin at the base. The tabletop forms a ring that frames whatever you place on it, while the circular void in the center lightens the visual mass and makes room for the handle element to pass through.

That handle emerges from the tabletop as a vertical fin aligned with the central opening. It’s wrapped with a soft material shown in a contrasting orange, making it comfortable to grip and visually highlighting the interaction point. The handle turns the table into something you can easily pick up and move around a room, reinforcing its role as a portable companion rather than a piece anchored permanently to one spot.

The lower section functions as an open-topped storage bin sized for books and magazines. The metal walls curve smoothly into rounded corners that echo the tabletop’s circular geometry, while a wooden base panel inside the bin adds warmth and keeps stored items stable. That wooden surface also grounds the piece visually, preventing the lower section from feeling too light compared to the tall vertical panel rising above it.

The material palette visible in the renders keeps everything calm and neutral. A matte, light beige metal body pairs with a pale wood base and a small orange accent in the handle. The orange gives the eye a focal point without dominating the design, while the wood base balances the cool metal and helps the table feel at home in living spaces rather than purely industrial settings.

TWIST works well next to a sofa or lounge chair, holding a glass on its circular top while a few favorite books rest in the lower bin. It functions as both a sculptural object and a practical helper, offering storage, surface, and a built-in way to move it wherever you need. It’s a small reminder that even a side table can be drawn as one thoughtful line.

The booster for SpaceX’s Starship V3 suffered a gas system failure during testing

SpaceX has confirmed that its third-gen Super Heavy Booster, the first stage of the two-stage Starship system, suffered an explosive gas failure of sorts during testing on Thursday morning. In a post on X, the aerospace company said, "Booster 18 suffered an anomaly during gas system pressure testing that we were conducting in advance of structural proof testing."

There was no propellant inside the booster as the engines were not installed at that point. No injuries were reported and the company shared that personnel are always kept at a safe distance during these types of tests. The company said it will "need time to investigate before we are confident of the cause."

The explosive release of gas, or whatever it was, seems to have blown out the side of the bottom half of the booster. Pictures taken by SpaceX content creators show this in detail. Clips of the livestream show the incident in question at around 4AM on Friday.

The booster is part of the third generation of Starship, SpaceX's enormous and fully reusable rocket designed for high payload capacity. The ship weighs 5,000 tons and towers over 400 feet in height (taller than a 30-story building).

So far, Starship has had 11 successful launches at a cost of over $100 million per launch, and five explosions during testing. While this most recent explosion was fairly benign, previous incidents have seen fiery debris rain down from the sky. SpaceX's ultimate plan for Starship is delivering payloads to the moon and Mars. Most recently, the last iteration of the second-gen Starship had a successful test flight in October. This came after its first ever payload deployment in August.

86 percent of global payload mass sent to space has been carried by SpaceX since 2024, though companies like Blue Origin are investing heavily to compete. According to NASA, the cost per kilogram to launch into space has seen a 95 percent reduction from its shuttle days. The SpaceX Falcon 9 costs 20 times less per kilogram to launch than NASA's space shuttle.
