Limited Edition Urwerk EMC SR-71 watch has parts of the legendary Blackbird spy aircraft

Urwerk is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the EMC series this year with the release of 10 limited edition pieces that are made out of fuselage pieces of the Lockheed SR-71 “Blackbird” aircraft. Hence, the naming convention “EMC SR-71” which pays homage to the mechanical precision of the famous timepiece that allows the wearer to adjust the mechanical precision offset by the small environment irregularities over time.

The exclusive masterpiece is made in collaboration with aerospace and lifestyle brand Dreamland. This timepiece has been on the idea sheet for as long as four years – back when watch designer Jason Sarkoyan and aeronautical engineer Dr. Roman Sperl inaugurated the Dreamland brand.

The idea of the Urwerk EMC SR-71 materialized when Dreamland got hold of the SR-71 fuselage’s titanium alloy parts. For this limited edition run, the composite of aluminum, vanadium, silicon, iron, and molybdenum metals is melted to create the folding crank handle of the built-in generator of the watch. The timepiece embraces the angular style of EMC watches to replicate the look of reconnaissance aircraft cockpit instrument panels. Urwerk uses the trusted in-house Caliber UR-EMC manual-wind movement (at 28,800vph frequency) that is a traditional Swiss lever escapement combined with an integrated timing machine. Thus, the watch has a power reserve of 80 hours before needing another cranking. The raw feel of the SR-71 is apparent from the four screws securing the case back.

The matte finish SR-71 has a dial measuring 47.55mm wide by 17.58mm thick, with a profile of 49.57mm in the lug-to-lug direction. The dials indicate the hours, minutes and seconds counter in the bottom right corner. The top left corner dial shows the amount of deviation in movement that can be actuated over a period of time. The power reserve of the watch is indicated by a small arc-shaped register on the left-hand side. Adjacent is a larger arc showing the δ performance indicator.

Olive green Velcro-style straps of the timepiece are mounted to the articulated lugs, unlike other conventional watches. The upper frame and the directional arrow for the generator crank are finished in bright yellow to go with the instrument panel theme. Since the 30-meter water-resistant Urwerk EMC SR-71 entangles Blackbird’s eventful history and carries actual parts from the spy aircraft, the $175,000 price makes complete sense!

Jet-Fueled Cybertruck kit turns the EV into apocalypse ready off-roader fullproof against IEDs

The cold-rolled stainless steel alloy gives the Cybertruck resistance against any bumps, furious kicks, or stone pelting that would bust any other vehicle. That makes the futureproof truck the perfect candidate for a military-grade upgrade. Archimedes Defense has these ambitions for Tesla’s tough EV off-roader as they have teamed up with Unplugged Performance (upgrade kit and component maker for law enforcement agencies) to create the aftermarket Sting kit to bump up the durability and functionality of Cybertruck.

Archimedes Defense supplies American agencies with high-performance generators, and it’s not surprising the kit comes with a front-mounted Genset generator capable of running on diesel, biodiesel and even jet fuel. The single-piston generator has a charging rate of 125 kW, so that the EV can be fully topped up anywhere, anytime.

This wild modification for the Cybertruck will come in three variants – Sting Baja, Sting Protector and Sting APC tailored for intense off-roading, a heightened level of protection from gunshots, or defense against IED and mine protection respectively. Thus, making the Hunk tailored for a civilian or military upgrade with incremental levels of modifications. What’s common to all these versions are large off-road tires, large antennas mounted on the rear and fog lamps. The doors have been reinforced which reduces the size of the windows.

First up the sting Baja version adds the Up Invincible off-road package for improved performance with the lightweight aviation-derived 800V Genset that charges the truck, as well, as any other vehicle in need. It is equipped with Tesla’s Starlink connectivity and a receiver mounted on the bed.

Then there’s the Sting Protector version suited for the wealthy that adds to the Baja’s capabilities for moderate threat environments. The bolt-on package of the Sting Protector adds an extra layer of steel so that it can even take on 7.62mm assault rifle rounds. It can be bought with or without the Genset depending on the needs.

The best out of them all is the Sting APC variant with the armored protection for defense. It gets upgraded bolt-on, bolt-off external offset steel and ceramic plating for protection against 14.5 mm machine gun rounds, IEDs and mines. It also gives the buyer the option to mount the add-on generator for doubling the range.

According to Archimedes Defense, the aftermarket kit is available for $500 reservations and the actual price of the base variants is speculated to be $40,000. The APC version will be available in late 2025, while the Baja variant will be available a little earlier.

TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 45MM x Oracle Red Bull Racing Edition is more than a smartwatch

Red Bull Racing and TAG Heuer share a long-term association that has, in different ways, paid tribute to motorsports fans and horology buffs sharing a common passion for speed and time. This congenial relationship between the two stalwarts – in their own domains – started back in 2016 with the Formula 1 Red Bull Racing Special Edition timepiece. Since then, the two have been parties to multiple drivers’ championships and podium finishes, amid other accolades.

Continuing the partnership, to record more success outside of the track, TAG Heuer and reigning F1 champions Oracle Red Bull Racing have collaborated again for the new and impressive TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 45MM x Oracle Red Bull Racing Edition. The smartwatch is, on all accords, similar to most feature-packed smartwatches on the block, besides being a dedicated timepiece for fans.

An amalgamation of TAG Heuer’s watchmaking genius and the speed-first world of motorsports, the Connected Calibre E4 45MM is equal parts a TAG-connected smartwatch and part a driver’s assistant on the wrist. Expressively then, the smartwatch is accentuated with a suite of modern features that the Oracle Red Bull Racing team may want for its fans and the drivers engaged in high-octane drives on the circuits.

TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 45MM x Oracle Red Bull Racing Edition, as the name has it, features a 45mm DLC grade-2 titanium case. The darker watch case is accompanied by a touch of tradition with the strap in red and blue colors of Red Bull Racing. The dial also has the color theme going and is perhaps the most intriguing part of the timepiece.

The 1.39-inch OLED display featuring 454×454 pixels (326ppi) resolution allows the user to toggle between dial faces, layouts, and other components like images of the Team, race countdown, and post-race updates to gel with their requirements. For instance, the watch allows one to choose between four faces: the primary one being the Seasons. In this setting, the watch dial showcases flags along the bezel, highlighting the country flag where Oracle Red Bull Racing would be competing next.

Next face is the Asphalt, which brings textured, race track-inspired backgrounds to the dial. Another includes an official watch dial inspired by the 2024 Red Bull Racing Car. Two interesting aspects of the watch are its dedicated app, which controls the timepiece and offers the F1 journey of the automaker’s cars, and the watch face evolving to display the finishing positions of the Red Bull Racing drivers. The battery-powered TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 45MM x Oracle Red Bull Racing Edition can run 24 hours on a single charge, comes with a PPG sensor on the caseback, and is water resistant up to 50 metres. It is available starting this month for a retail price of $1,950.

Meta approved Roto VR chair rotates with your head movements to makes gameplay immersive

Like with other simulators, motion sickness – leading to dizziness and nausea – is common in VR. Some people get uncomfortable when they don a headset and dive into virtual reality.  This is because the brain essentially gets disturbed while you stand still and the environment around you moves. This disturbance in brain equilibrium means you begin feeling nauseous or dizzy.

London-based Roto VR is ready to change the game for someone who feels the symptoms with the introduction of a motorized Explorer chair that rotates with the movement of the VR user’s head, making sure there is no indecisive movement in the environment, which the brain cannot register and begins to trigger nausea. Chair intends to make the virtual environment more immersive and less distorting!

This is a major piece of VR furniture that matches real-world movements with that of the headset. Of course, then it requires a headset to function and would take up a lot of space in your home. But it is significant for all of us who desire complete physical transportation into the virtual world, which is far and above what the headsets have to offer even after evolving rapidly in the last few years.

World’s first interactive VR chair, the Roto VR Explorer, is a sophisticated motion device that provides haptic feedback to the body. The chair looks pretty ordinary until you gawk at its round base integrated with an electric motor. This base rotates the chair 360-degrees at up to 21 revolutions per minute (though the speed matches the intensity and speed of the user’s head). Slow head movement, equally slow rotation, and the faster the movement, the quicker it spins until reaching the top speed.

The chair spins in the direction of the head of the user with a Meta Quest headset on. The head strap of the Quest is attached to a dedicated Roto head tracker, which can capture the motion and head movement for precise motion tracking. Interestingly, the Roto VR Explorer chair is provided with the “Made for Meta” stamp, substantiating that the device is authorized by Meta and meets all industry standards. That said, the rotation of the chair is triggered by the motion sensing tracker attached to the headset, which suggests that the chair can be used with other headsets as well and there is no rigidity despite that Meta earmarking.

The Roto VR Explorer chair is attached with two pedals – right above its base – for running simulation. Of course, the chair does not vouch to eliminate motion sickness entirely; VR users will still experience nausea moving back and forth. If you think, the chair deserves a chance in your VR environment, you can now preorder it at £799. Delivery will begin in October 2024.

Tuthill Porsche GT ONE restomod is a perfect fusion of past racing history and modern street culture

Tuthill Porsche, a UK-based renowned rally and restoration shop is setting the pace in the restomod industry with the recent collaboration with Singer. They’ve recently turned eyeballs at the 2024 Monterey Car Week with the Porsche GT ONE. The restomod inspired by the famous 1990s 911 GT1 race car that featured in the BPR Global GT Series. This later took shape as the road-legal 911 GT1 Straßenversion which was limited to 21 units for the passionate buyers.

Well known for modifying Porsche 911’s, the company wanted to commemorate the homologation special Straßenversion with its version that we see here. The performance car is fully optimized for road use, unlike the Straßenversion. As per Richard Tuthill, CEO, Tuthill Porsche, “We have taken the best bits but focused on producing a wonderful road car. The inspiration from all that we have done in the past and have been inspired by what others have done before us and continue to do.”

Just like the 911 GT1 Straßenversion, the GT One has the striking styling of the 993-generation 911. The company commissioned designer Florian Flatau for this amazing race car tailored for the streets. The ride’s body is made out of carbon fiber that brings the total weight down to 2,645 pounds. The limited edition car will have a 4.0L flat-six engine under the hood in two configurations. One will be a 493 hp naturally aspired version and the other a forced induction version churning out 593 hp. The gearbox will also be offered in a choice of 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or a manual gearbox.

The impressive specifications don’t end there, as the GT ONE boasts a double wishbone suspension, bespoke calipers and carbon ceramic brakes. For those who want to take advantage of every ounce of the engine power, the car has advanced aerodynamic tuning courtesy of the CFD analysis. Tuthill is also considering an add-on aero package for enthusiasts who want to test it out on the freeway or the race tracks.

According to Richard, this masterpiece takes around 3,500 hours to finish which in itself is a testament to the effort put into the making. Only 22 production examples of the GT ONE will be made and there’s no word on the pricing yet.  That said, the makers believe the car is a piece of art and a machine to be enjoyed while driving.

Framework-Inspired Mouse Comes With A Modular, Easy-To-Repair Design

Whether the mouse stops scrolling, the sensor begins to glitch, or the switch records twice when you just want a single click; it’s time for you to replace your mouse. You know why, because most mice we have connected to our PCs or laptops are unrepairable, and there’s a high chance, yours is a plasticky one you cannot mend.

Over prolonged usage or when a mouse accidentally drops, most of the time, it fails in ways you wish you could open it up and replace the faulty part, since it looks like new on the outside still. Unfortunately, only a handful (if I’m not wrong) of mice have the option to replace a part or two. In such a scenario, the waruru: easy-to-fix mouse is a class apart. It is the Framework of a mouse!

This Spectacular Semi-Autonomous Off-Road Rescue Vehicle was designed for the US Army

When stuck in a dangerous situation miles away from habitation, search and rescue is the only hope for a stranded person. A lot of effort has been put into developing such vehicles that have to be capable on multiple fronts. All-terrain capabilities and emergency gear are on top of this list. Add semi-autonomous capabilities to the equation and you’ve got a vehicle that lets the driver concentrate on providing first aid when every second counts.

Meet Deep Orange 15, a semi-autonomous search and rescue vehicle developed by Clemson University’s Department of Automotive Engineering students. The all-terrain vehicle promises enhanced safety in the most precarious scenarios. Its capabilities don’t stop on semi-autonomous features, as the vehicle can drive back to the designated emergency center with two injured people on board while the driver can help in the rescue efforts in a natural disaster-struck location.

The robust rescue vehicle designed for the US Army’s Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) comes with an advanced LiDAR and camera setup to map the terrain to create a safe route to help the rescue workers. Deep Orange 15 has a hybrid-powered drivetrain with a diesel engine mounted on the chassis and four electric motors on the wheels. The diesel engine simultaneously runs the generator to feed the large battery pack. To traverse any terrain, the four-wheeler has an active suspension system.

Safety during travel on not-so-smooth terrain creates a challenge for the transport of injured, hence, the vehicle comes with an advanced litter-loading mechanism. The rotating passenger seat further facilitates the safe transit of severely injured people. This project is a combined effort of the two organizations along with big brand names like Brembo, Fox Racing and North American Rescue. To improve the vehicle’s dynamics and function, modeling and simulation runs have also been performed for its use in military operations. In fact, the students working on the project have done an exceptional job, designing the vehicle in just 18 months keeping in mind the requirements of the elite forces of the US Army.

This mathematical equation-inspired flatpack table has an integrated vinyl player and wireless charger

Way back in 1903 the English mathematician Henry Ernest Dudeney worked out a way to morph a perfect square into an equilateral triangle. The trick involved dissecting the square into rearrangeable four distinct shapes. This method holds merit even after more than a century of varied applications.

Fast forward to 1986, and the mathematical formula was experimented with by architect David Ben-Grunberg and his artist father Maty Grunberg to create a table. This piece of furniture dubbed DTable was a unique creation at that time since it doubled as a storage solution, seating, or a centerpiece for the living room. Furthermore, the eight different configurations from a square to a triangle shape brought an element of freshness and the freedom to put in any space with any arrangement. The individual pieces could be detached to act as stand-alone pieces too.

Designer: DHaus

In that era, the table design by DHaus was as exclusive as it could get and the high-end offering was manufactured in Denmark for an exorbitant price. The design studio has now reincarnated the DTable as a low-cost flat-pack furniture piece, initially as a prototype, that’ll later hit production lines with the option to customize the finish. Dubbed DTable Deco HACK, it is designed in Paris and prototyped in London by Base Models. The table is crafted from recycled plastic materials for a modern, eco-conscious element.

DHaus is going to showcase the new-age prototypes – DTable Deco, Deco GREEN GOBLIN and the Deco HACK at the Paris Design Week. We’re more interested in the Deco HACK version as it has an integrated vinyl player for music lovers. The buck doesn’t stop there as the flatpack table has a Bluetooth speaker, wireless charger, alarm clock and bottle opener. This modern-day inclusion and the highly configurable features of the table make it ideal for apartment living and blend in with contemporary interior décor as well.

There’s no word yet on when the DTable will be available to buy but we can expect some revelation post the Paris Design Week from 5th to 14th September, 2024.
