The most important piece of furniture in our office is our prized chair! It is where we spend hours on end. We spend the majority of our day sitting on chairs, whether we’re working in our home office or a corporate one. Hence, this piece of furniture needs to be not only comfortable but ergonomic, and aesthetic as well. For me personally, I should be able to sit on my chair all day, feeling inspired and productive, and constantly churning out good work. I know sounds like an impossible feat, doesn’t it? How could one furniture design do all this and more for us? Well, I don’t know if finding the perfect office chair is possible, but the Typo Office Chair by AMDL Circle comes pretty close. Let’s take a look!

Designer: AMDL Circle for Mara

Italian studio AMDL Circle designed this simple yet powerful office chair for the furniture brand Mara. What sets this seemingly ordinary chair apart is its playfully bent form! It is an ergonomic office chair with a light timber base and backrest, that have a gentle curve in their form. This gently curved shape sets the chair apart and serves as the ‘focal point’ of the entire furniture design.

The subtle wood is contrasted by a colored metal structure which in turn creates a distinctive and vibrant silhouette. This intriguing contrast adds a lively element to the chair, taking it from an everyday furniture design to something refreshing. Mara worked with AMDL Circle to create the design, and which is the result of “unconventional fine-tuning”.

“By bending a square-section steel tube along the diagonal, the material deforms, curling and sharply creasing,” said Mara. “This detail generates the intentional and sought-after ‘error’ that is the soul of the project.” “Typo, as a typing error, is almost an accidental mistake,” concluded the brand, explaining the product’s playful name. Much like its name, this office chair is defined by what initially seems like a mistake, but is in fact an intentional detail that adds personality and character to an otherwise somber and humble wooden furniture design.

Spring is currently in full swing, and it is the perfect time to spend your days in the outdoors, taking in some fresh air, and letting the lovely spring sun soak through our skin. There couldn’t be a better time to be in your backyard! I mean, you can do a lot in your backyard! We shouldn’t underestimate our backyards, as they can be major spaces of fun, recreation, and relaxation. And a wonderful addition to your backyard could be the Cosmo Pavilion by studio AMDL Circle for the fellow Italian company Ethimo.

Studio AMDL Circile gave the classic garden pergola a contemporary and beautiful twist in the form of the Cosmo pavilion. This stunning and quaint pavilion is created to frame outdoor furniture settings while also providing protection from the elements. It brings a sense of comfort and coziness to the rough outdoors – although for rough can your backyard be? The structure is intended for the evenings, when the integrated LEDS shine upwards, away from the pavilion, scattering light across the fabric canopy, and in turn forming a warm and cozy ambiance.

The pavilion is created by joining FSC-certified teak columns, which is a typical material of choice for furniture, since it artfully weathers over time, with an aluminum upper structure, which beautifully spreads outwards to create a lovely sculptural roof. Ethimo describes the product as “a new dimension for outdoor living in harmony with nature” and makes it available in a number of sizes and configurations. “Cosmo meets a desire to create a private space, an ‘indoors out of doors’ that can be used in any season and at any time of day,” said Ethimo.

The Cosmo Pavilion makes for a wonderful addition to your mundane yard, it adds an almost fairytale-ish atmosphere to the space while functioning as a comfy and serene space to spend your evenings in. Quite obviously, it is quite a large structure, and can only be accommodated in yards with plenty of space, it isn’t a great fit, or rather will not be able to fit in small backyards.

The bike is custom-made, and it can be easily assembled and disassembled like a puzzle, to fit snugly into a briefcase, and back to ride without a single flinch or issue. It features a lightweight and durable chassis that can be efficiently unfastened into two halves, with the other parts also following suit.

3. The J.Laverick Aston Martin .1R

Meet the J.Laverick Aston Martin .1R – an alluring advanced titanium road bike that is created using a mix of 3D-printed titanium lugs, and sculpted carbon fiber tubes which builds a lightweight yet sturdy bicycle without any kind of exposed bolts on the outer body. According to Aston Martin’s designers, this is the world’s first and is also described as a “titanium hypercar on two wheels”. You can also choose between a saddle or a handlebar type, and currently, the exact pricing of the bicycle isn’t known.

Sergii Gordieiev aka The Q on YouTube is known for his ingenious and out-of-the-box bicycle designs, and this time he is back with a bicycle with treads instead of wheels! The handlebars, frame, and seat have all been assembled from scratch to accommodate the other not-so-ordinary elements of the custom bike. The body features a lower profile at the rear than the front fork. The handlebar and the cushioned seating are aligned, making the bike comfy to fit on, however, with those treads constantly moving, I wonder how comfy this bike might be.

5. Moccle

Dubbed the Moccle, this rather adorable-looking bicycle with a fun and unique aesthetic, is designed to help you truly enjoy riding. The simple bike isn’t equipped with gears, a dashboard, or even shock absorbers, but it does have a bent-wood frame to absorb shock. The bent plywood frame is fixed in place with the help of a metal fixture, and this frame flexes when pressurized, absorbing any stress from bad rocky terrains or undulating surfaces. The Moccle truly brings back the joy of old-school peddling!

6. Gordieiev’s Bicycle with Square Wheels

Meet another spectacular creation by Sergii Gordieiev – a bicycle with square wheels! This innovative bicycle features wheels that don’t roll, but instead, they move on a conveyor belt-like platform that rotates as you hit your foot on the pedal. The best imagery to understand how it works would be to imagine war tanks moving on their metal tracks without any wheels, except in this case it is a cycle and the wheels are square-shaped!

Named RE:CYCLE, this innovative bicycle design is made from recycled aluminum coffee capsules. The aluminum in the coffee capsules has been melted down and then utilized to build this durable, sturdy, and powerful bike. It perfectly merges sustainability and clever design, while maintaining Vélosophy’s iconic and subtle design philosophy and language. It features a lovely purple frame that draws inspiration from Arpeggio – the famous Nespresso coffee, while the bell looks like a coffee capsule!

8. Wing Cycle

Named the Wing Cycle, this beautiful roadster bike is inspired by avians! It doesn’t go for the traditional diamond shape and instead adopts a form inspired by a bird wing. The bike includes a cable wire design that supports the seat, and the cable rope system can be easily adjusted to change the positioning of the seat for diverse riding moods. It features a material palette of chrome, leather, and wood, creating a sleek and skeletal bicycle that grabs attention.

9. Infinity All-Wheel Drive Bicycle

Stephan Henrich designed an innovative and uniquely shaped bicycle called the Infinity All-Wheel Drive Bicycle. It is one of the most out-of-the-box automotive designs I’ve seen in a while, and it moves forward with the help of a monotyre-clip chain system that creates a temporary rim in the wheel sections as well as a dental belt drive in the interior groove. The unique bicycle sets into motion using a short chain, and an 8-speed gearbox which is unlike anything we’ve seen before.

10. Bicycle With Triangle Wheels

Designed by the Q, this mind-boggling bicycle is equipped with triangle-shaped wheels. It is a cleverly designed bicycle that moves in a linear form, creating adjacent lines between each of the rollers, and the flat surface it is riding on. This allows the triangular wheels to overcome their limitations, and roll quite comfortably without any hurdles. The triangle-shaped wheels are truly far more comfortable than you can imagine, and also so fun to ride!

AI-Generated Floating Glass Museum Is Intended To Be a Symbol Of Environmental Awareness & Sustainability

Dubbed the Floating Glass Museum, this mesmerizing and jaw-dropping structure by Luca Curci architects in collaboration with Giulia Tassi Design is something to give a nod to. Designers and architects from around the world, as well as AI were also used to design the fantastic building. It is proposed as a unique and innovative symbol of environment awareness and sustainability, “where the history of glass meets the contemporary experimentation”. While designing the structure, the international design team drew inspiration from the fine art of glass-blowing that has been practiced by Venetians for around 1500 years. These loud pieces manage to create a space that is tranquil and almost meditative, while other pieces feature bright red and orange glass trees, and rather real-looking pink ones which establish a strong connection to the environment and nature. The furniture pieces are crafted from aluminum sheet material, which has been cut and assembled using techniques inspired by the art of kimono making, in which fabric is cut in straight lines, and then artfully sewn together.

This unique technique produces almost zero waste, which is why Tamura employed this clever process, since it maximizes material use, in turn boosting the production of his collection. Both the Origata bench and console feature the same essential shape – a sturdy geometric form that has a softness to it, owing to its cultural influences, and craft-related inspiration.

The beautiful pieces represent and showcase Porro and Tamura’s shared values which include cultural identity, internationality, and a genuine respect and admiration for materials. The stools feature slanted legs which offer it a usual and unique shape, which brings to mind the image of the original bike frames they were taken from. One stool is equipped with three legs, while the other has four legs. The seat is crafted from recyclable cork, which isn’t from the bike, it does maintain the stool’s sustainable personality.

The stool captures and showcases the potential of the undervalued wood types, and how they can be used as sustainable alternatives to the typically-used wood types. The stool is manufactured using non-commercial woods such as koto, willow, elm, acacia, and birch.

9. Cork Stool Concept

Made from cork, this minimalist stool concept is designed to offer you a sustainable seating solution, that reduces waste by converting two stools into one single bench, and then back again, as and when needed. It is like an “unknown” stool design, but it features a modular nature which leaves it interestingly open to interpretation and implementation.

Why is it noteworthy?

The design has a core element of a sturdy column of cork, which functions as a single cylinder, and forms the center of the stool. However, a smaller circle connects it to the removable seat with a hole in its center. It functions as a simple system that doesn’t need any extra parts or screws.

Named the VALE collection, this range of eco-friendly chairs and stools by Layer was designed for the US furniture brand KFI Studios. The furniture is made from recycled PET bottles and was created to protest against the plastic waste that often drowns and pollutes the oceans and landfills.

This Tiny Home With An Elevating Bed Transforms Its Interior With The Push Of A Button

Called the Elevate tiny home, this unique tiny home by Canada’s Acorn Tiny Homes features a nifty interior layout with an elevating bed, in turn building a flexible room that functions as a bedroom, as well as a light-filled study area. It is always difficult to fit functional and comfy interiors into tiny homes, but Acorn Tiny Homes has truly done an exceptional job with the Elevate. The Elevate measures 24 feet in length and is founded on a double-axle.

The Elevate is powered by a standard RV-style hookup, and the home’s cozy interior is marked with IKEA cabinetry and closet, which were picked over custom units in an attempt to keep prices down. Most of the Elevate’s floor space is occupied by an open and light-filled study space and includes a desk and chair. But when it is time to sleep, the owner simply needs to push a button, and a comfy double bed is lowered down from a stowed position near the ceiling. This allows the space to transform into a bedroom. This system is operated using a pulley that elevates and lowers the bed on all four corners with the help of rails and an electric winch motor, which is mounted on the exterior of the home. Some curtains have also been attached to the pulley system, which offers privacy as the bed moves.

The remaining portion of the tiny home is arranged on the same floor. The kitchen is located next to the study area/bedroom, and it includes a fridge/freezer, microwave, sink, cabinetry, and an electric stovetop. It also contains a large mirrored storage unit. You can access the bathroom via a sliding door, and it is quite spacious for a tiny home. It occupies about 30% of the available floor space. The bathroom houses a shower topped by a skylight, as well as a sink and a toilet.

Elevate was designed when the resident was planning to attend law school abroad but had to cancel because of COVID-19 travel restrictions. Instead, he decided to study alone and required a private space at home to study, and this is when the Elevate tiny home came into existence.
