The year, 1936. The Allied powers were facing certain defeat at the hands of a vastly more powerful and capable Germany, which had developed the Enigma Machine to send encrypted messages during the 2nd World War. Alan Turing, an English mathematician, was tasked with cracking the Enigma code to help the British decode Germany’s messages. If you’ve seen the 2014 thriller The Imitation Game, you’re familiar with how Alan Turing ended up building essentially the world’s first computer (if you haven’t seen the film I highly recommend it). The Turing Machine was the theoretical predecessor to that computer (called the Bombe), which helped the Allied powers win World War II. Turing machines theoretically describe any machine capable of processing algorithms, and while you’d expect these machines to be fairly advanced – a LEGO genius managed to build the first operational Turing Machine entirely using LEGO bricks. No no… this isn’t a sculpture or decorative model of a Turing Machine, it’s an actual device capable of ‘computing’ algorithms – and here’s the kicker – it does so without electricity.

The concept behind the Turing Machine might feel like it’s pulled straight from a cryptographer’s textbook, but this model makes it strikingly tangible. The idea is simple yet profound: a machine that can compute any algorithm, as long as it’s provided with the right instructions. Turing’s original concept relied on a tape, infinitely long in theory, with symbols written on it. The LEGO version mimics this setup with a physical tape and a moveable “head” that reads, writes, and moves across the tape based on the machine’s current state. There are four possible symbols and eight possible states, which gives us 32 potential symbol-state combinations. The instructions for each combination are packed into 7 bits, taking up 224 bits overall. For context, that’s 14 bytes—a strikingly small memory footprint in the world of modern computing, yet capable of running nearly limitless programs.
What’s truly fascinating here is how the model works entirely without electricity. This is a purely mechanical construction, powered by the simplest of human inputs: turning a crank. Their prices are some of the most affordable on the market, and the Highway Lite trailer follows this legacy with a price tag of $4,999. The trailer is essentially a simple and subtle shell, and the interior is like a blank canvas that can be done according to the buyer’s personal needs and requirements. Since it is quite empty, buyers can spec up the space through Hiker Trailers. The trailer is pretty lightweight and is towable by small vehicles that are equipped with a 2-in hitch receiver.
The trailer features aluminum tubes and Hiker’s typical aluminum-skinned wood frame. It is a little less “teardrop’ as compared to Hiker’s previous models. The curved roofline leads to a flat and vertical front end, creating a shape that is more of a square drop than a conventional teardrop design. It measures 11.7 feet and features a 4 x 8-foot floor. The rear section includes two floating tailgate galley shelves which allow for a full open floor space that lets the occupants use the entire interior floor length.

One of the year’s scariest and most engrossing horror games is clawing its way to a new console. SFB Games’ Crow Country will launch on the Nintendo Switch on October 16.
Crow Country may look like a cheerier, grainier Animal Crossing but that just adds to the horror adventure’s creepy and dark atmosphere. You play as Mara Forest, a plucky young woman exploring the remains of an abandoned amusement park called Crow Country. Its owner Edward Crow mysteriously disappeared in his park and has been missing for two years. It’s up to Mara to uncover the mysteries behind the abandoned theme park and its long lost owner.
Engadget’s Cheyenne MacDonald reviewed the game back in May and highlighted that it drew some inspiration from the aesthetics and horrific monsters of horror games on Sony’s first Playstation like Resident Evil and Silent Hill. She also described the game as “cozy,” an odd word to describe a horror game. Crow Country’s “cozy” nature adds to the horror by taking familiar seeming characters and putting them in the Lovecraft-ian atmosphere of terror and mystery. It’s so good that it even made our list of the best horror games of the year.
Crow Country is also available on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox X/S.

Electrek first reported on the absence of that Model 3 build. It was the cheapest option from the electric vehicle brand with a price tag of $39,000. Now the Model 3 Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive takes that title with a retail price of $42,500. Tesla unveiled a refresh to its Model 3 line in the US in January.
The company also posted numbers for the third quarter today, with 462,890 vehicles delivered between July and September. Sales were aided by price cuts and other incentives during the quarter, enough to reach a 6.4 percent increase from the previous year's deliveries. However, the figure fell short of analysts' predictions for more than 469,000 deliveries during the period. This quarterly result could also hamper CEO Elon Musk's projections for the company to surpass the 1.8 million vehicles it handed over in all of 2023.
Tesla has also been struggling with recalls this year. Most of those issues were fixed with over-the-air updates, but the scope and number of the issues may also be leaving customers with doubts. Recalls impacted 200,000 vehicles in January, 2 million in February, 125,000 in May, 12,000 in June, 1.8 million in July, and more than 9,000 in August.

Epic Games Store general manager Steve Allison announced at Unreal Fest in Seattle that it plans to expand the Epic Games Stores’ mobile library with 10 to 50 new third-party games and start a free games program, according to mobilegamer.biz.
Allison said the free games program and third-party titles will be available in “Q4” or the last part of the year. Epic’s Unreal Fest keynote also teased that Ark: Ultimate Mobile Edition will be one of the new third-party games on the mobile store.
Epic Games also wants to make the game submission process a lot easier. Allison mentioned the store would offer “self publishing tools” for developers. This will allow them to release their games “without any interactions with us, like they do on PC today.”
The Epic Games Store is available worldwide on Android devices and for iOS users in the European Union.

The team invested two years in researching the best shape for a FPS mouse and three major grip points were identified when it comes to finger placement. These being the front, center and back along the length of the mouse. That’s why some gamers prefer the sculpted surface for precise control while others go for one having a flat surface for freedom of hand, wrist and finger movement.
The next step in development was to identify the areas where modularity would yield the best results. For this, the team worked with top FPS gamers and aimers. All this while maintaining lightweight aesthetics and design quality. The result is a mouse with over 2,500 possibilities of configuration. The main configurable elements of the device include a spacer to toggle the width and length, a hump adjustment element for comfortable palm contact and finger placement elements on both the left and right side.
For example, the hump-shaped attachments can have a low, medium, or high hump level. These can further be customized with the use of spacers. Makers claim that the modular mouse is rated for 20,000 cycles of changing shapes which is almost three years, 20 times a day. Practically that would make the mouse last for more than five years even with moderate and low cycle of changes every day. Of course, gamers are intrigued by the hardware prowess of any peripheral, hence, Pathfinder comes with Omron optical switches, a 4000Hz wireless receiver, and PixArt’s PAW3395 sensor.

We can expect the final product to also come with high-grade 3D-printed parts that last for long. According to the pre-order portal, it will weigh just 53-59 grams +2 grams depending on the configuration chosen. Meta is rolling out some of the previously announced features to its AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses for users in the US and Canada. CTO Andrew Bosworth posted on Threads that today's update to the glasses includes more natural language recognition, meaning the stilted commands of "Hey Meta, look and tell me" should be gone. Users will be able to engage the AI assistant without the "look and" portion of the invocation.
Most of the other AI tools showed off during last month's Connect event are also arriving on the frames today. That includes voice messages, timers and reminders. The glasses can also be used to have Meta AI call a phone number or scan a QR code. CEO Mark Zuckerberg demonstrated the new reminders features as a way to find your car in a parking garage in an Instagram reel. One notable omission from this update is the live translation feature, but Bosworth didn't share a timeline for when that feature will be ready.
