Google Chrome’s T-Rex Offline Game gets immortalized in this adorable LEGO diorama

Back when Google was still a fun company (when Android had easter eggs, and when the company cracked April Fools jokes ever year), users who browsed the web on Google Chrome noticed a nifty hidden gem within the browser’s error message. When the browser couldn’t connect to the internet, it would display a “You are offline” message with a pixelated dinosaur standing amidst desert terrain. Press a key and it would trigger Chrome’s hidden game – an infinite side-scrolling adventure where you would have to get the dinosaur to dodge obstacles by either jumping over them or ducking under them. The game almost instantly became a crowd favorite, allowing people to keep themselves entertained even when offline.

LEGO builder Brick Dangerous decided to give this game the respect it truly deserves by turning it into a LEGO brick set. Comprising 449 pieces (although you could just as easily extend the diorama), the LEGO Ideas submission features the grey dinosaur against its familiar white background, accompanied by a cloud and two cacti.

Designer: Brick Dangerous

The build is pretty straightforward, with a lot of scope for adjustment or even upgrading to extend the scene sideways. It relies on 449 bricks in its current avatar, with no fixed orientation. You can choose to have the T-Rex on land or jumping in air. Want to make a nice stop-motion, that works too!

“This game is very fun, millions of people play it every time there are connection problems, something simple, but addictive,” says the designer, Brick Dangerous. “Luckily this T-Rex did not become extinct with the meteorite!”

This isn’t Brick Dangerous’ first rodeo on the LEGO Ideas forum. The designer has submitted multiple projects on the forum, and two of our favorites, the vintage telephone and the LEGO hourglass, even reached the coveted 10,000 vote mark. However, for reasons undisclosed, LEGO’s internal review team didn’t convert them into retail sets. This T-Rex build looks promising, though… it’s crossed the 1,500 mark and has another 570 days before its deadline ends. Head to the LEGO Ideas forum to vote for this dino before it goes extinct!

LG’s game-changing house robot is a secret smart AI agent with numerous tricks up its sleeves

I had an idea about what’s possible with AI and machine learning integration. What I didn’t know, until today, was that LG is committed to realizing a vision of “Zero Labor Home” with robotics and artificial intelligence. Does that sound safe is a discussion for another day, but what’s on the horizon (as progress in the direction) is the pre-CES announcement of a smart home AI agent from LG.

The AI agent is a cute little robot with large googly eyes that LG has outfitted with multi-modal technologies for autonomous mobility, advanced communication, and engaging functions to help homeowners with daily chores. A home manager and companion robot to say, the LG’s two-legged, wheeled agent can “move, learn, comprehend and engage in complex conversations.”

Designer: LG

This interesting robotic figure with a headphone-like carrying handle over the head has articulated leg joints for free and independent mobility. The AI robot is based on Qualcomm Robotics RB5 development kit enabling face and companion recognition. This means that the LG smart agent can recognize users, understand and express emotions, and interact verbally. For instance, it “greets homeowners at the front door, discerns their emotions by analyzing their voice and facial expressions, and selects music or other content to suit their mood.”

“Embedded with the ability to process natural language, the robotic smart home AI agent can “understand context and intentions” to “actively communicate with users.” This is made possible with built-in sensors, camera, and a speaker. These together also put a lot of other interesting aspects to the robotic abilities of the AI agent. It can double as a mobile smart hub in the house allowing you to connect with and control IoT devices, and note temperature, indoor air quality, and humidity.

Since the little guy can move around the house quite like the humans, it can patrol the confines on your behalf to notify if you have left a window open or an appliance turned on. By this concept, it can also work as a house guard and pet monitor sending timely alerts if any unusual activity is detected or the pet needs attention. As a partner to the seniors at home, AI agent can provide reminders to take medications or manage personal schedules. With a robot capable of endless features, LG aims to “liberate” us “from the burden of housework.”

Logitech revamps their popular X Plus Gaming Mouse with a ‘Millenium Falcon’ Edition

For that extremely small subset of people who thought the Logitech G502 X Plus gaming mouse wasn’t perfect enough, the company’s managed to outdo itself with an even better version of its wildly popular wireless mouse. Now sporting the graphics of the Millenium Falcon from the Star Wars franchise, this new edition of the X Plus gaming mouse will be difficult to look away from. It’s also much more responsive, has a gorgeous tactile feel, and can functionally equip you with all the tools you need to demolish your sworn foes… in a game, obviously.

Designer: Logitech

It’s difficult to talk about the X Plus’ features without highlighting the new variant’s design. I’d say the edgy aesthetic of a gaming mouse lends itself rather naturally to a sci-fi spaceship, but this one really takes the cake. The top fascia comes with a white and gray color scheme, punctuated with red accents and a pattern that echoes the iconic Millennium Falcon. Underneath, a hidden rebellion logo sits above the Hero 25K sensor, offering sub-micron accuracy and zero smoothing, filter, or acceleration – as precise and reliable as a Jedi’s lightsaber.

Logitech hasn’t overlooked the ambiance, either. The G502 X Plus Millennium Falcon Edition features 8-zone RGB lighting, capable of displaying a full spectrum of colors with custom Millennium Falcon-inspired animations. These animations, alongside the option for media-driven effects and advanced personalization, are accessible through the Logitech G Hub software. The LIGHTSYNC RGB not only adds a dynamic aesthetic to your gaming setup but also includes power-saving play detection to ensure efficiency.

At its core, the G502 X Plus Millennium Falcon Edition is a high-performance tool designed for the elite gamer. With a range of 100 – 25,600 dpi and a 400 IPS max speed, it promises precision and responsiveness that would make even Han Solo envious. The integration of Logitech’s first Lightforce hybrid optical-mechanical switches means users get the best of both worlds: the swift actuation of optical switches combined with the tactile satisfaction of mechanical ones.

The mouse also includes 13 programmable controls, allowing users to customize their gaming experience fully. For those long gaming sessions, the battery life stands robust, offering 120 hours of constant motion (37 hours with RGB on), ensuring that the only breaks taken are voluntary.

The mouse pairs with computers using Logitech’s pro-grade Lightspeed protocol (a hat-tip to the space-warping lightspeed travel system seen in the Star Wars movies). Designed to work without wires, the Lightspeed system is tournament-tested, with a response time that’s a whopping 68% faster than Logitech’s previous protocols.

To complete the intergalactic experience, Logitech offers the Return of the Jedi Collection XL gaming mouse pads. Whether you choose the Battle of Endor or Darth Vader version, your desk will transform into a battleground of epic proportions.

Priced at $159.99, the Millenium Falcon-edition mouse is a premium offering for those looking to add a piece of the galaxy to their gaming setup… and for an additional $59.99 each, the themed mouse pads can further elevate your space.

This super-slim, portable Bluetooth speaker is fitting companion for your next travel destination and Harman Kardon portfolio

There is no denying the profound impact travel and music have on healing the mind and rejuvenating the body. When we travel, a good portable speaker is a necessary companion to enhance well-being and inspire us back to take up the mundane life by its neck, until travel is on the itinerary once again.

Top-notch brands have a range of portable Bluetooth speakers on the market that tinkle the audio senses beyond imagination, but it’s the design that weighs heavier on our choice. To that accord, Harman Kardon has been at the forefront of delivering portable audio equipment that helps us tap the transformative power of music on the go. Case in point the Esquire Mini 2!

Designer: Sunghyun (Teddy) Hwang

Taking a leaf from the design of this ultra-slim and portable Bluetooth speaker, a designer has tweaked the form factor to give us a super-slim speaker that evokes memories of a Sony point-and-shoot camera. Fittingly called the Traveller, the Bluetooth speaker is designed according to the Harman Kardon design language. It has a premium design and a look as iconic as the Esquire Mini 2, with touch control buttons and LED light indicators on the top.

Entrusted with meaty features for a traveler’s liking, the slimy speaker comes powered by a high-density battery offering up to 10 hours of backup for uninterrupted music on the go. Interestingly, the Traveller has reverse charge functionality. So, when your primary device playing music through the speaker dies, you can use the Traveller as a power bank to juice it up back to life.

Since the beautiful and compact speaker has Harman Kardon branding; the range and sound quality are a given. What would stand out for many – who cannot avoid calls no matter where they go – the Traveller features dual microphones with built-in echo and noise cancellation for clarity in calls you take or make. To be delivered in three interesting colors: black, silver and electric blue within a premium quality carry pouch, the Traveller Bluetooth speaker intends to be a suitable companion for your next travel destination and Harman’s portfolio.

Duck Look-Alike Robots Will Revolutionise Waste Management And Help You Keep The Society Clean

In the rapidly evolving landscape of smart cities, the integration of technology into everyday life is becoming increasingly prevalent. One innovative solution to the challenges of urban waste management is “Qua” – a system of smart baskets designed to change the paradigm of garbage collection through a bio-inspired and playful approach to social robotics.

Designer: Luca Fiorentino

The creators of Qua have recognized the importance of seamlessly integrating robots into daily life. Unlike traditional robotic designs that may feel intimidating or too ‘robotic,’ Qua takes a different approach by drawing inspiration from nature, particularly the graceful and iconic single-file line movement of ducks. This design philosophy aims to make these robots a familiar and affable presence in urban environments, fostering acceptance and reducing the perceived intrusion of technology.

At its core, Qua is a system of autonomous waste collection baskets designed to move independently throughout the city. The baskets are equipped with sensors and artificial intelligence that allow them to recognize when a user needs to dispose of waste. Instead of requiring users to seek out a designated waste bin, it takes a proactive approach by approaching users when it detects the need for disposal.

The functionality of the robot extends beyond its bio-inspired design. Once it identifies a user ready to dispose of waste, it autonomously navigates towards them, streamlining the waste disposal process. After facilitating the user in discarding their waste, Qua then autonomously returns to a designated charging hub responsible for waste disposal.

One of the key advantages of these robots is their potential to address the issue of littering, particularly among individuals who may be less inclined to walk the extra mile to find a waste bin. By bringing waste collection directly to the user, it offers a convenient and accessible solution to urban waste management. This is particularly beneficial in encouraging responsible waste disposal practices and minimizing littering in public spaces.

However, it’s essential to consider the potential downside of such technology. As noted, Qua could inadvertently cater to the convenience of those who are lazy or unwilling to make the effort to dispose of waste properly. It is definitely serving the larger purpose for society but it raises important questions about the role of technology in shaping behaviors and the need for a balance between convenience and responsibility.

Having said that, Qua represents a groundbreaking approach to waste management in smart cities. By combining bio-inspired design with advanced robotics, Qua aims to redefine the relationship between technology and urban living. As with any technological advancement, it’s crucial to consider the societal implications and strive for a balance that promotes convenience without compromising responsible behavior. The future of waste management may indeed be shaped by innovations like these robots, where technology not only serves a functional purpose but also harmoniously integrates with the natural flow of city life.

Called the KNOT Stool, this uniquely designed stool is flat all around and is made up of various layers of wood, which provides the stool with a raw and brutalist aesthetic.

Why is it noteworthy?

The three wooden pieces can be painted in the same or different colors. The decorative webbing strap that wraps around the top of the stool’s legs can also come in complementing or contrasting colors, not to mention being made of different materials.

What we like

  • Adds a whimsical + fun element to your interiors
  • Clean, minimal, and compact design

What we dislike

  • Seems to be designed more for viewing rather than sitting

Futuristic-looking garden dome functions as an office space, yoga den, and nap spot to sleep under the stars

A trend that grew ever so popular during the pandemic was “domes’. Sneakily enough, little garden domes started to rise in popularity during the pandemic, since a lot of people felt frustrated working and being cooped up in their homes all day long. Although offices, and the rest of the world, have started to open up now, somehow domes still manage to be a favorite amongst the people. We’re used to garden domes that function as cool home offices, but this garden dome by Hypedome is a home office…but also much more!

Designer: Hypedome

Designed by Hypedome, these garden domes are designed to function as office spaces, calm lounges to relax in, yoga dens, and even additional sleeping quarters if you like to sleep under the stars in the outdoors – without the fear of rain and snow. These geodesic domes were created to make indoor-outdoor living even more accessible, and to provide an indoor-outdoor space that lets you enjoy the beauty of nature without having to deal with its harsh side.

Made from solid polycarbonate panels, the hemispherical garden domes look like glass, but are in fact 200 times more durable and weather-resistant, and UV-protected as well. This provides protection to the furniture and other items placed within the domes. “Our goal was to create durable domes that would not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of gardens but also provide a practical living space that can withstand various weather conditions,” said Hypedome.

The innovative garden domes can be used all year round since you can easily heat them during the winter. And of course, during summer they’ll be a plush little lounge spot to spend your days in, allowing you to soak up the sun, but not too much of it. The garden domes come in three different sizes, with a crystal clear finish as the standard finish. You can also pick mirror, grey, and translucent finish options – they also add a bit of privacy. Hypedome says that the garden domes have a life expectancy of fifteen years, and once they’ve died down, they can be fully recycled, which makes this design worthy of some extra brownie points!
