The Long Weekend is a perfect camera for low-stakes high-memories photography, whether it’s a wedding, a beach holiday, or even your kid’s first serious camera. It’s intuitive to use (with just a shutter button and a flash switch) and comes with a lightweight plastic body that can take a few bumps without your heart skipping a beat. The camera comes in two color-ways – a default black, and a gorgeous retrocam-looking cream and blue that reminds us of the Polaroid OneStep.

Optimized for 135 Film (24X36mm) with an ISO range of 200/400, the camera offers versatility in film choice, allowing users to experiment with various film stocks, from classic black & white to popular color films like Kodak Ultramax. The focus-free 31mm, F9 optical grade acrylic lens simplifies the shooting process, making it a great tool for beginners. However, this simplicity does mean a reduction in creative control, as there are no adjustable settings for shutter speed or aperture.

The camera’s shutter speed is fixed at 1/120, and the aperture is locked at f/9, offering a depth of field that covers objects from a distance of one meter onwards. Galaxy S24 designs unofficial look reveals familiar faces, subtle changes

We’re nearing the end of the year, which means almost all the new flagship phones for 2023 have already flown the coop. That also means that the Internet is seeing a constant stream of leaks and rumors about next year’s roster, especially the ones that will be ushering in the new year. As per tradition, Samsung will be opening the year with its own definition of a “bang,” with none other than the Galaxy S24 family to pave the way for 2024. But just like any flagship smartphone from any brand any year, this trio has already been leaked to death. The latest addition to that list is a bunch of official-looking unofficial images that uncover what the Galaxy S24 will look like, and it looks like it’s going to be a very flat affair.

Galaxy S23 Family

In contrast to its practice a few years ago, Samsung seems to have mellowed down on making big changes to its flagship phones’ designs. The 2021 Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy S22 the year after were almost identical, while this year’s Galaxy S23 still looked slightly similar but ditched the “Contour Camera” bump for a more minimalistic design. It seems that the upcoming Galaxy S24 will continue that trend, preferring refinement over sensational changes in order to establish a stronger brand identity.

This new set of images of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra match those rumors. They retain the basic design identity of the current Galaxy S line but have some subtle yet important changes as well. If there’s one word that could describe the Galaxy S24’s design, it would be that it has embraced the flat trend even further.

This is especially true with the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+, which now have nearly flat edges with chamfered corners where the front and glass back cover meet the frame. You can be sure that there will be a lot of criticism about Samsung copying Apple yet again, but it’s actually surprising it took this long to do that. In the meantime, a lot of other smartphone brands have already adopted this flat look, so it’s not like Samsung needs to be singled out.

The more important flat change, however, is with the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s screen which ditched the curved edge or “Infinity Edge” design of yesteryears. As mentioned before, this isn’t just a visual change, because it lets owners exploit all the screen space available, down to the last pixel at the edges. It’s a more usable design, especially for a smartphone that uses a stylus. Of course, all of these are still unofficial, but given all the “confirmation” we’re seeing on the Internet, it’s almost as good as gold. The Galaxy S24 lineup is expected to be announced on January 17th, 2024, though even that date isn’t official.

Plastic utensils are lightweight but easy to break, while metal is durable but heavy. Some try to have very thin bodies to offset that weight, but they end up making your hands feel cramped after a while. Of course, sporks exist to combine those two into one, but the vast majority of them are more cumbersome to use than they’re worth.

This lightweight metal spork, in contrast, was meticulously designed to give your hands a break while you’re taking your lunch break. At only 0.25oz (7g), you can hardly feel its weight so your hand won’t feel strained the more you enjoy your meal. Being lightweight, however, doesn’t mean it’s fragile. With a special anodized aluminum exoskeleton, it remains tough as nails and ready to scoop up or pierce through food.

The spork’s design might strike one as odd, but it wasn’t made on a whim nor is it purely aesthetic. Probably one of the most powerful moments in the history of human unity, the fall of the Berlin Wall was eagerly watched all across the world. As the bricks crumbled, a physical and metaphorical barrier was broken between East and West Germany, marking the official and symbolic end of the Cold War. In this rather dystopian time we live in, it’s difficult to come across such moments of kindred spirit and brother/sisterhood… so the watchmakers and history-buffs at Col&MacArthur decided to turn this moment into a wristwatch. Aptly titled “Wind of Change”, the watch references the popular Scorpions song on the historic event. Not only does it come with a seal of approval from the band itself, but each timepiece actually has a small fragment of the Berlin Wall embedded in its dial and an authentic piece of guitar string from the Scorpions’ guitar, allowing you to wear literal history on your wrist!

Those feelings don’t coexist peacefully, and that’s reflected in the watch’s unique design. The Wind of Change timepiece showcases a one-of-a-kind shattered dial with one half exposing a concrete fragment of the Berlin wall, and another housing a textured dial that features the date of the fall of the wall through the indexes as well as the name of the collection “wind of change”. Look carefully and you’ll see the crack between the two halves traces the actual contour of the Berlin wall, separating the watch into East and West zones. The crack also travels from the 0 to the 28th-minute mark, symbolizing the 28 long years that the wall stood between the two factions of Berlin.

The watch comes in Quartz as well as Automatic variants with a Swiss Normtech 703 and a Swiss Sellita SW200-1 movement respectively. The fragment of the wall differs from watch to watch too, showcasing a unique part of the original wall, making each watch as individual as a human fingerprint.

There’s a beautiful and painful dichotomy to the watch’s design. It embeds history into its classic form factor so elegantly and with the kind of rawness that is sure to evoke strong emotion. For people who were alive, the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall was a true moment of celebration for all of humanity, much like the moon landing. I’d venture that we haven’t had too many such moments of global oneness since, which is what makes this moment (and the watch) so special. Not only does it come with a seal of approval from the band itself, but each timepiece actually has a small fragment of the Berlin Wall embedded in its dial and an authentic piece of guitar string from the Scorpions’ guitar, allowing you to wear literal history on your wrist!

Officially launched in partnership with the Scorpions, this exceptional watch features an authentic fragment of the former Berlin Wall covering half of the dial.

Like the song, the Wind of Change watch simultaneously addresses the pain of the past as well as the optimism of the future. Those feelings don’t coexist peacefully, and that’s reflected in the watch’s unique design. The Wind of Change timepiece showcases a one-of-a-kind shattered dial with one half exposing a concrete fragment of the Berlin wall, and another housing a textured dial that features the date of the fall of the wall through the indexes as well as the name of the collection “wind of change”. Look carefully and you’ll see the crack between the two halves traces the actual contour of the Berlin wall, separating the watch into East and West zones. The crack also travels from the 0 to the 28th-minute mark, symbolizing the 28 long years that the wall stood between the two factions of Berlin.

The premium model hosts an authentic piece of guitar string from the Scorpions.

The watch comes in Quartz as well as Automatic variants with a Swiss Normtech 703 and a Swiss Sellita SW200-1 movement respectively. Both designs look identical in their appearance, barring the inclusion of an authentic Scorpions guitar string (taken from their 2023 tour) in the Automatic variant. The fragment of the wall differs from watch to watch too, showcasing a unique part of the original wall, making each watch as individual as a human fingerprint.

The watch’s design comes co-signed by the Scorpions band itself, along with a seal of approval from Universal Music. Each watch has a graphic of five white doves mid-flight (from the single cover of Wind of Change) at the 3 o’clock position, along with the Scorpions band logo etched onto the watch back cover. The watch is also accompanied by certificates of authenticity of the provenance of the Berlin Wall fragment, and for the automatic version, authenticity of a piece of string from a Scorpions guitar, used to play “Wind of Change” on their last tour.

There’s a beautiful and painful dichotomy to the watch’s design. It embeds history into its classic form factor so elegantly and with the kind of rawness that is sure to evoke strong emotion. For people who were alive, the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall was a true moment of celebration for all of humanity, much like the moon landing. I’d venture that we haven’t had too many such moments of global oneness since, which is what makes this moment (and the watch) so special. While the watch comes in both Quartz and Automatic variants, the latter is limited to 1989 units each, marking the year in which the Berlin Wall was broken down.
