Caviar & SpaceX collaborate over $6630 Luxury Watch with actual Starship Fragment inside it

That price tag shouldn’t surprise you, given that Caviar’s built its reputation on catering to the creme-de-la-creme of tech collectors. While most people know Caviar for its ornate smartphone cases, it turns out the company makes watches too – with the same luxury-forward philosophy. Their latest ‘Space Tornado’ collection features three watches that highlight the cosmos, but it’s the flagship watch in the series that has our eye. Priced at upwards of 6 grand (or roughly two Vision Pros), the Stargazer X-Edition watch comes with a 24k gold-plated body, a tourbillon at the 6 o’clock mark, and a relic of actual space travel at the 12 o’clock mark. Designed in collaboration with SpaceX, each watch comes with a fragment of the Starship spacecraft, carefully placed at the top of the watch as its crown jewel.

Designer: Caviar

The Stargazer’s dial takes inspiration from Jupiter’s moon Europa. The dial comes with an icy, striated finish, referencing the moon’s icy surface with a blue ocean underneath – possibly teeming with life. It’s rather poetic too, considering that the watch’s movement lies beneath this surface too. The watch sports a main dial that tells you the time of the day, accompanied by two subdials, one serving as a power indicator and the other, as a 24-hour clock. The subdials are flanked by a tourbillon at the 6 o’clock position that fervently beats like the watch’s heart… but if your eyes can tear away from its hypnotic movement, it should find itself at the 12 o’clock position.

Sitting right at the top of the watch face is a small, practically unrecognizable fragment. Taken from the Starship – the largest rocket ever flown – these fragments represent space travel, along with humankind’s indomitable spirit for touching the stars. The fragment finds itself encased within the watch’s face right at the top, and is one of three such fragments that will be found in the Stargazer’s limited edition series.

The rest of the watch boasts Caviar-style luxury too. The body is made from 316L stainless steel, plated with 24K gold. The straps are high-quality calfskin leather, and the clasp on the back is gold-plated as well. The watch also sports an exhibition back, letting you view the movement inside. Caviar doesn’t specify the watch movement, but given the presence of a power reserve, it’s probably automatic – using your wrist’s movements to harness energy that powers the watch.

The Stargazer X-Edition is limited to a mere 3 pieces, making the watch rarer than most luxury timepieces we usually see. At $6,630, it still might be one of the more affordable tourbillon timepieces on the market, and the inclusion of a Starship fragment definitely sets it apart – but then again, watches in this range can often be impregnated with moon dust, mars rocks, or even meteorites. The Stargazer X-Edition is definitely a conversation-starter if you’re a space enthusiast or find yourself among similar-minded folk. The watch, at least at the time of writing this, is still available – and if you’re looking for a discount, paying with cryptocurrency gets you a neat 15% knocked off the original price.

Lottery-inspired Alarm Clock gives you rewards for taking the effort to seize the day

Most of us generally use smartphones to set alarms without realizing that these little radiation mongers by the bedside are messing up our sleep patterns. It is better to leave the phones at a comfortable distance from the bed. But how do you wake up the lazy sleeper then? Well, invest in an alarm clock that can become your best pal to start off the day with a purpose.

If you have an agenda, a schedule, or a defined routine after the alarm goes off, you’re set and probably doing well for yourself. For the others – who are aimless waking up every morning, with no set routine to follow – the snooze button on the phone or clock is the favorite choice. The Fortune Clock arrives without the snooze option, rather a purpose-defined wakeup activity that goes a long way beyond just waking you up with something to do.

Designer: Ho Hyun LIM

When out in the market for an alarm clock, you look for the nightlight option, volume levels, and of course the snooze button. For the Fortune Clock, you might have to have a different mindset: An outlook to look at your fortune based on how you get up in the morning.

Sounds interesting? It well is! The clock with a digital display on the front quarter – featuring time and day – has an interesting wheel of fortune just below. The idea is to fill the clock from the top with balls. When you wake up in the morning to turn off the alarm (by pressing the button on top) a ball with a number is released (this happens every day) and appears in the groves cut out on the front.

While the idea of the clock is to get the user into the habit of making an effort to get up to stop the alarm and put the ball rolling (not literally); the designer believes, the numbered balls are fortune tellers as well. User can, Ho believes, combine the numbers on the balls obtained from this effort of getting up, to purchase lottery tickets, to seize their luck. How much numerology magic the clock does is for you to understand, but these hard-earned numbers will definitely make a difference to your sleep cycle and waking-up routine.

Audemars Piguet [RE]MASTER02: A Modern Homage to a 1960s Classic

In this week’s Wristwatch Wednesday, I know you’re expecting part two of the watches I’ve regretted selling, which happens to be the AP 1998 Nagano Olympic Special edition. However, this [RE]MASTER02, a contemporary reinterpretation, is equally interesting, so I apologize; you’ll need to wait until next week for that piece while we explore the [RE]MASTER02.

Designer: Audemars Piguet

Since 1875, Audemars Piguet has followed its own path, combining watchmaking tradition with cutting-edge technology and pioneering new materials and designs. Over the years, the manufacturer has used a wide variety of materials, colors, and case forms, ranging from traditional geometries such as the circle, square, and rectangle to more unexpected trapezoidal or octagonal shapes.

Historical Context and Design Evolution

This exploration of form culminated in the early 1960s with a series of asymmetrical watches, all produced in less than ten pieces. During this period, Audemars Piguet also created several models with angular geometric shapes that were ahead of their time. The boundless creativity of these timepieces continues to inspire Audemars Piguet’s watchmakers today.

Model 5159

One of the remarkable pieces from this era is the Model 5159BA, launched in 1960 and produced in just seven pieces. This model is characterized by its asymmetrical 27.5 mm rectangular case crafted from 18-carat yellow gold. The design broke away from traditional watchmaking codes with its unconventional case shape and minimalist dial layout. The 5159BA’s dial features a series of intersecting lines, creating a sense of dynamic tension and movement. This model is currently on display in the Musée Atelier Audemars

Audemars Piguet 5159BA Model, launched in 1960

The asymmetry of the 5159BA laid the groundwork for daring and unconventional designs in subsequent Audemars Piguet creations. Its bold deviation from traditional symmetry in watchmaking challenged the norms and set a precedent for the brand’s willingness to experiment with form and function. The intersecting lines on the dial, creating a dynamic and almost architectural feel, directly influence the modern reinterpretation seen in the [RE]MASTER02’s dial design, which employs geometric patterns to play with light and shadow.

Furthermore, the 5159BA’s minimalist approach, with its lack of extra detail, allowed the quality of materials and the purity of form to take center stage. This philosophy is carried forward in the [RE]MASTER02, where the design remains clean and uncluttered, allowing the unique properties of the sand gold alloy and the intricate parted dial to shine. The emphasis on material and form over decorative elements is a clear throughline from the 5159BA to the modern reinterpretation.

Model 5182

Another notable model from this period is the 5182, which showcases a more conventional round shape but retains the avant-garde spirit with its minimalistic dial and bold use of gold. The luxurious materials contrast the design simplicity, emphasizing the watch’s elegance and the era’s design ethos.

The 5182’s round case, while more traditional in shape compared to the 5159BA, still pushed boundaries through its minimalistic approach and luxurious execution. This model highlighted Audemars Piguet’s ability to balance traditional forms with contemporary design principles, a balance that is pivotal in the [RE]MASTER02. Using a parted dial with a unique brushing finish in the new model echoes the simplicity and elegance of the 5182’s design ethos.

By integrating high-quality materials like gold and focusing on the dial’s aesthetic purity, the 5182 set a standard for the brand’s future designs. The [RE]MASTER02 continues this tradition using the innovative sand gold alloy and a meticulously crafted dial. The modern piece reflects the historical model’s commitment to understated luxury and precision in craftsmanship, ensuring each design element serves a purpose while maintaining an elegant overall appearance.

The restrained use of design elements in the 5182 also influenced the [RE]MASTER02’s approach to watchmaking, where less is more. This philosophy is evident in the clean lines and thoughtful use of space in the new model’s dial and case, ensuring that each detail enhances rather than overwhelms the overall design.

Model 5167

The 5167 further pushes the boundaries with its triangular case, a bold departure from traditional watchmaking forms. This design exemplifies the influence of geometric experimentation with its sharp angles and unadorned surfaces. The dial is straightforward, focusing on functionality and readability, devoid of unnecessary ornamentation.

The 5167’s triangular case is a adherence to avant-garde design and experimentation with unconventional shapes. This bold approach is a direct precursor to the asymmetrical design of the [RE]MASTER02. The willingness to explore and incorporate sharp angles and geometric forms from the 5167’s design is evident in the modern reinterpretation’s case and dial.

The influence seen in the 5167’s unadorned surfaces and functional design translates into the [RE]MASTER02’s aesthetic. The new model’s parted dial and geometric partitions echo the sharp, clean lines of the 5167, emphasizing functionality while creating a visually striking piece. This inspired simplicity allows the watch to make a statement without excessive decoration.

The straightforward dial of the 5167, designed for readability and functionality, set a precedent for the [RE]MASTER02’s approach to its dial design. The modern piece incorporates clear, easy-to-read markers and a layout that prioritizes functionality, ensuring that the aesthetic serves the practical purpose of telling time while delivering a bold visual impact.

[RE]MASTER02: A Contemporary Reinterpretation

The [RE]MASTER02 Selfwinding pays tribute to a unique watch created in 1960 (Model 5159BA). Following in the footsteps of the [RE]Master01, launched in 2020 to reinterpret a rare chronograph from 1943, this new limited edition of 250 pieces features an asymmetrical 41 mm rectangular case in the new 18-carat sand gold alloy launched earlier this year and a “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” parted dial creating unique effects of light and texture.

Combining vintage aesthetics with cutting-edge performance, this new reference is equipped with the Calibre 7129, an extra-thin hour-and-minute movement without date indication, based on the Calibre 7121. The interplay of historical inspiration and modern innovation in the [RE]MASTER02 showcases Audemars Piguet’s dedication to preserving its legacy while pushing the boundaries of contemporary watchmaking.

The asymmetrical case design of the [RE]MASTER02 directly draws from the 5159BA’s unconventional form, highlighting Audemars Piguet’s continued exploration of non-traditional shapes. The new sand gold alloy used in the case introduces a modern twist, with its variable hue adding depth and intrigue to the watch’s appearance. This innovative material pays homage to the past and sets a new standard for luxury watchmaking.

Case and Materials

The [RE]MASTER02 case is entirely crafted in sand gold, a new 18-carat gold alloy whose hue varies between white and pink gold depending on the light and the wrist’s movement. Launched earlier this year on a Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Openworked reference, this new material, which takes its name from sand dunes, is composed of gold, copper, and palladium for a warm appearance. The case measures 41 mm in diameter and 9.7 mm in thickness, providing a modern, substantial presence on the wrist while maintaining an elegant profile.

Audemars Piguet [RE]MASTER02

This innovative sand gold alloy embodies the blend of tradition and modernity that Audemars Piguet is known for. The material’s unique properties, reflecting different hues under varying lighting conditions, add a dynamic element to the watch, ensuring it catches the eye from every angle. The choice of material also highlights the brand’s attentiveness to pioneering new technologies and materials in their designs.

Inspired by historical models, modern craftsmanship techniques bring the case’s asymmetrical design to life. The clean lines and precise angles of the sand gold case enhance its aesthetic appeal and ensure it commands attention as a contemporary piece rooted in the brand’s rich history. The interplay of light on the sand gold surface creates a visually captivating effect reminiscent of the dynamic dial designs of the past.

Dial Design

The [RE]MASTER02 is enriched by a “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” dial that combines different geometries. It’s subdivided into twelve individually machined brass triangles decorated with a linear satin finish before being placed on a brass plate with minuscule feet. The triangles are separated by sand gold partitions that facilitate the reading of the time, creating a striking visual effect that changes with the light. The dial design pays homage to the geometric experimentation of the original 5159BA while introducing modern elements and materials.

With its intricate geometry and meticulous craftsmanship, the parted dial design reflects the brand’s dedication to blending artistic design with functional precision. Using sand gold partitions enhances the dial’s readability and adds a touch of luxury and sophistication. This combination of form and function is a hallmark of Audemars Piguet’s design philosophy.

The “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” dial color is a nod to the historical palette used in past models, while the modern execution ensures it fits seamlessly into contemporary aesthetics. The interplay of light and texture on the dial creates a dynamic and ever-changing visual experience, much like the historical models it draw inspiration from. This blend of historical reference and modern innovation ensures that the [RE]MASTER02 is unique and timeless.

Movement and Technical Specifications

The heart of the [RE]MASTER02 is the Calibre 7129, an extra-thin self-winding movement that focuses on the essentials: hours and minutes. This movement evolves the Calibre 7121, known for its reliability and precision. The lack of a date function preserves the dial’s clean aesthetic, allowing the unique design elements to take center stage.

The Calibre 7129, with its extra-thin profile, ensures the watch maintains an elegant and slim form factor, making it comfortable to wear while retaining a sophisticated look. The focus on essential functions highlights Audemars Piguet’s commitment to precision and reliability, ensuring that the [RE]MASTER02 is a beautiful and highly functional timepiece.

By forgoing a date function, the [RE]MASTER02 stays true to the minimalist design ethos of its historical predecessors. This decision allows the watch’s unique design elements, such as the parted dial and sand gold case, to be the focal points, ensuring the overall aesthetic remains clean and uncluttered. This approach underscores the brand’s philosophy of harmonizing form and function.

Bracelet and Finishing

Complementing the sophisticated case and dial is a blue contrasted alligator strap with an 18-carat sand gold pin buckle. The strap’s rich color and texture add to the watch’s overall luxurious feel, making it an eye-catching addition to any wrist. The choice of an alligator strap enhances the watch’s elegance and provides durability and comfort.

The blue color of the strap complements the “Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50” dial, creating a cohesive and visually pleasing look. The contrast between the blue strap and the sand gold case further highlights the watch’s unique design elements, ensuring it attracts attention from every angle. This attention to detail in the choice of materials and colors reflects Audemars Piguet’s dedication to craftsmanship.

The finishing touches, such as the 18-carat sand gold pin buckle, ensure that every aspect of the [RE]MASTER02 exudes luxury and sophistication. This meticulous attention to detail in both design and execution ensures that the watch looks stunning and feels exceptional on the wrist, providing a genuinely luxurious wearing experience.

Pininfarina Unveils Limited Edition Oksýs Chaise Longue: Merging Automotive Design with Luxury Furniture

Legendary Italian design house Pininfarina, famed for its historic decades-long collaboration with Ferrari, has unveiled its debut piece of collectible furniture – the Oksýs chaise longue. This unique creation seamlessly blends the company’s automotive design heritage with the functionality of a high-end chaise lounge. The Oksýs is a limited-edition statement piece designed to complement Pininfarina’s recent foray into branded residential projects. The chaise longue embodies the studio’s core design principles, which center on the harmonious marriage of aesthetics and technical innovation.

Designer: Pininfarina

The Oksýs is a striking visual interplay of contrasting elements. The upper section features smooth, ergonomic lines reminiscent of a Pininfarina sports car. This section is crafted for comfort and boasts a reflective finish that invites touch. In stark contrast, the lower portion resembles a rough, crystal-like rock, creating a sense of groundedness.

“Seen from above, Oksýs is smooth and reflects light with no aggressive angles,” explains Marco Becucci, the in-house architect who designed the chaise longue. “This upper part invites the user to touch it, while the lower section offers a textural counterpoint, left coarse and milled to resemble an untouched rock.”

The design and development process for the Oksýs mirrored Pininfarina’s approach to creating high-performance automobiles. The project began with sketches, followed by ergonomic testing, computer-aided modeling, and finally, the creation of physical models using CNC milling to achieve the complex form.

The prototype showcased at Milan Design Week was crafted from polyurethane and finished with a gleaming epoxy resin, creating a captivating metallic effect. Pininfarina envisions future iterations cast entirely in steel or aluminum, further solidifying the connection to its automotive roots. Only three Oksýs chaise longues will be produced, each sold exclusively through the Rossana Orlandi gallery.

Batman-inspired Maverick GT Stormy Knight redefines luxury and sustainable maritime adventures

Wayne Enterprises and T3MP3ST have one more reason for Batman fans to go on a spending spree if they like exploring the waters. This is the Maverick GT Stormy Knight electric exploration vehicle developed by the two companies for the filthy rich. That’s because the eco-friendly boat is priced at $250,000. According to makers, “it is a first-of-its-kind, ultra-luxury commerce environment that immerses you in the world of DC’s Bruce Wayne, the billionaire civilian persona of The Batman.”

The limited-edition watercraft is a balanced iteration of luxury and high-end technology for the best experience venturing out in the waters. Only 27 units of this vessel will be created by T3MP3ST who have been redefining nautical adventures with innovative Electric Exploration Vehicles designed for the government agencies and the elite.

Designer: T3MP3ST and Wayne Enterprises

The 4-meter power boat is designed out of carbon fiber and stainless steel to optimize performance without harming the environment. The use of these materials keeps the total weight down to 1,300 pounds. The power comes from a 100 kWh modular battery that’s mated to a 350 hp electric motor. This enables it to reach speeds of more than 85 mph and have a range of 75 miles on a single full charge. That roughly equates to around six hours of runtime. The watercraft is loaded with an autonomous navigation system that has Garmin’s advanced GPS and voice command integration compatible with iOS and Apple Watch.

This EEV comes with high-grade customization to suit the needs of demanding buyers. It is crafted for a four-seat configuration just like a jet-ski, keeping in mind Batman and Robin would hop onto the ride whenever criminals decide to fox the authorities by taking the water route. Plus there’s space for two more to add to the fighting power. If buyers want to have more seating space, the company is also offering a larger version with a 30-foot RIB hull that can ferry 8 passengers. Top speeds on this one are considerably lower at 40 knots but it can cruise for eight hours on a single charge.

Those interested in buying the Maverick GT Stormy Knight luxury boat can head over to the BruceWayneX website for pre-order, or mark their calendars to visit the Wayne Enterprises Experience in New York City from June 3 to 10.

TAG Heuer’s Iconic Return with the Reinvented Formula 1 Kith is Retro and Hot

As a die-hard enthusiast of both timepieces and Formula 1, the comeback of the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Series 1 not only grabs my attention—it’s also gearing up to increase my spending habits this month! This iconic watch, first introduced in 1986, was a pivotal point for TAG Heuer and played a key role in rejuvenating the Swiss brand during the quartz crisis. Its vibrant, robust design has survived and flourished, turning into a valued collector’s piece.

Designer: TAG Heuer + Kith

Teaming up with Kith, the trend-setting powerhouse that’s all about shaking up the fashion scene, TAG Heuer has given this classic sports watch a slick modern makeover. Limited to just under 5,000 pieces, the collection illustrates the nostalgia that often fuels contemporary watch collecting, coupled with the exclusivity and appeal that modern collectors want.

Just like the Swatch MoonSwatch sparked a frenzy in the watch world by adding a playful and accessible spin to Omega’s classic design, the TAG Heuer Formula 1 Kith collection is set to generate similar excitement. As such, it’s sure to mix the thrill of “get it before it’s gone” with some cool, fresh updates. I imagine it will attract long-time original series fans and a new generation captivated by unique collaborations and storytelling through design.

Swatch x Peanuts Snoopy MoonSwatch

The new series introduces significant updates to meet modern expectations. Sapphire crystal now replaces the original plastic dial coverings, improving both durability and clarity. High-grade rubber straps have been used in place of the original plastic ones, providing enhanced comfort and wearability. Personally, I prefer high-quality rubber straps because they are more casual and comfortable for daily wear. The collection includes five models with stainless steel cases, two of which have black PVD coatings to match their bezels. Additionally, five models maintain the original Arnite cases, now offered in new colorways created in partnership with Kith.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 | Kith (References WA121L.BT0014 & WA121J.BT0012)

Ronnie Fieg, the founder of Kith and a significant figure in the streetwear and sneaker industry, brings his personal passion for vintage TAG Heuer Formula 1s to this collaboration. This enthusiasm is echoed in the collection’s unique design elements. The all-plastic versions, as well as two steel versions with bright blue and green bezels, are available exclusively at Kith’s boutiques in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Toronto, Hawaii, Tokyo, and Paris, as well as on its website.

These watches represent a return to the brand’s adventurous and innovative roots for fans of TAG Heuer’s racing heritage. This watch lets you own a piece of motorsport history, refreshed for today. It’s a direct link to racing legends, updated with modern style—perfect for everyday wear or showing off at special events. The balance between preserving nostalgic features like the 35mm sizing and vibrant color palettes and introducing upgrades showcases TAG Heuer’s dedication to respecting its past while pushing forward.

As TAG Heuer and Kith prepare to launch, there’s a buzz among Formula 1 fans and watch enthusiasts. This isn’t just another watch hitting the market. It’s a big deal, a cultural happening. It’s a one-of-a-kind piece that might sell out as quickly as a race car zips around the track. It could even match the recent hit collaborations by Swatch.

A Boeing 737 Was Transformed Into This Luxurious Villa Perched On A Cliffside In Bali

Dubbed the Private Jet Villa, this extraordinary home is built from the fuselage of a Boeing 737 aircraft and is subtly perched on the edge of a beautiful cliffside in Bali. The Private Jet Villa features an all-new stunning interior that replaced the functional cabin. The interior includes a bedroom with a jacuzzi in the cockpit. Designed by Geometrium Studio, the home is nestled on an exquisite spot 150 m above sea level, above the Nyang Nyang Beach Cliff in Bali, Indonesia. The airplane was originally in service in Indonesia, but after it was decommissioned, it was moved to the site using a truck and crane and then renovated on-site.

Designer: Geometrium Studio

Converting the old Boeing 737 into a majestic home was no easy feat. The home had to be placed on a cliffside, and there was also a lack of space and odd dimensions to deal with. To deal with these issues, the studio installed a new ducted ventilation and air-conditioning system, which conceals the electrical systems and a water supply in the cargo hold. The furniture was specially custom-designed to perfectly fit into the space’s curved walls. The studio mitigated the limited space through the use of natural wood, light tones, and concrete textures.

Rounded shapes and forms were integrated into the interior, which mimicked the tubular shape of the aircraft fuselage. These shapes were seen in the bathroom, and in other interior touches as well. Mirrors were also incorporated into the home to add an illusion of spaciousness and comfort, while natural light was maximized by utilizing original windows.

A floating staircase offers access to the interior. This staircase connected to the living room, dining room, and a big shared kitchen in the center. This section connects to the plane’s two wings, which include terraces, and offer stunning views of the landscape. One of the wings juts over the cliffside. The central section leads to two bedrooms. The first bedroom is located in the cockpit, and it includes a jacuzzi bathtub and a double bed, as well as its en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom is located in the tail section and it has an en-suite bathroom as well.

The Octo Finissimo Sketch is a Masterpiece of Elegance Celebrating 140 Years

As Bulgari commemorates its 140th anniversary, it introduces two distinguished Octo Finissimo Automatique BVL 138 Sketch editions that celebrate the brand’s legacy and propel it into the future with groundbreaking design concepts. These editions—each in rose gold and stainless steel—illustrate a sophisticated fusion of material excellence and design innovation.

Designer: Bulgari + Buonamassa Stigliani

Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Automatic BVL 138 Sketch in rose gold

The rose gold model, reference 104165, features a luxurious 40mm case that is impressively thin at only 5.5mm, thanks to the ultra-slim profile of the BVL 138 movement. This case offers both a sapphire case back and front, revealing the inner workings of the automatic BVL 138 caliber. This movement is just 2.23mm thick, with a diameter of 36.6mm, and equipped with 36 jewels. It includes a platinum micro-rotor, a small seconds feature positioned at 7:30, and a 60-hour power reserve. The artistic gold dial beneath a lacquered finish enhances both its depth and visual impact, and the dial itself presents technical illustrations that mimic a skeletonized view, lending a sophisticated illusion of depth. This model’s rose gold bracelet, complete with a folding clasp, mirrors the case, reinforcing the watch’s elegance.

Conversely, the stainless steel model, reference 104163, offers a sleek, contemporary option. It shares the same 40mm size and a thin 5.5mm profile with a sapphire case back and front, showcasing the precision of the automatic BVL 138 caliber. The dial, finished in silver lacquer, acts as a shimmering canvas that reflects the mechanical beauty it encases. The stainless steel bracelet, secured by a durable folding clasp, enhances its modern appeal. Like its rose gold counterpart, it boasts a 60-hour power reserve and robust 100-meter water resistance, ensuring reliability and functionality.

The dials of both models highlight Fabrizio Buonamassa Stigliani’s creative expertise. Each stroke and sketch brings the technical elements of the watch to life with spontaneity and artistic precision. These elements bridge traditional craftsmanship and contemporary artistry, highlighted by the trompe l’oeil effect that gives each dial a three-dimensional look despite its flat surface.

In addition to the two remarkable editions, Bulgari introduces a third variant limited to 140 pieces: the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT BVL 318 Sketch (Ref. 104192). This model is molded in stainless steel, features a chronograph and GMT function, and incorporates the same innovative sketch-style dial. It showcases a 30-minute chronograph counter at 6 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock, and a second-time zone display at 3 o’clock, making it a standout piece for global travelers and watch enthusiasts alike.

This approach illustrates Bulgari’s innovative spirit and aligns with its heritage. It uses color schemes that enhance each model’s distinctiveness—the rose gold’s warm tones enhance its refined elegance, and the cooler tones in the stainless steel accentuate a more urban, modern aesthetic. Each design choice ensures that the dials are integral to the watch’s identity, reflecting a blend of avant-garde design and traditional watchmaking.

A Masterpiece Emerges from the Collaboration Between John Mayer and Audemars Piguet

In crafting the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition, Audemars Piguet redefines the concept of special timepieces, creating a category entirely on its own. This collaboration with John Mayer enhances the watch’s allure, blending his artistic sensibility with the brand’s commitment to innovation, passion, and a profound respect for the craft of watchmaking. The result is a timepiece that transcends traditional boundaries, emerging as a unique collector’s item and a demonstration of meticulous craftsmanship and aesthetic perfection. This collaboration secures its place as an iconic piece in the world of luxury watches.

Designer: Audemars Piguet + John Mayer

John Mayer brings a unique perspective to this partnership, channeling his creative flair and imaginative intuition into the creation of the watch. His approach mirrors his music philosophy—each element must resonate with emotion and depth, akin to a chord striking a soulful note. Each component of the watch is designed to reverberate with feeling, enhancing the overall sensory experience of the timepiece. Mayer’s favorite watches are those where the dial is not just observed but experienced, a concept that deeply influenced the design of the “Crystal Sky” dial. Describing it, he likens the watch’s face to a picture window—one looks through it into another world. In this case, the dial is a portal to a moonless, starlit sky, vast and boundlessly deep, offering a sense of the infinite and the eternal. This deep link between the dial’s design and the natural world transforms the watch from simply measuring time to reflecting the timeless expanse of the universe.

The dial is a masterpiece of design, featuring an embossed motif resembling a spread of irregularly shaped crystals. This choice is intentional, echoing the natural crystalline forms found in rock formations and ice, elements that transform under the weight of time itself. The texture adds visual depth and a tactile dimension that begs to be touched and closely inspected. Audemars Piguet used a precise electroforming process to achieve this intricate detail that constructs the dial’s motif atom by atom, reflecting the brand’s dedication to micro-mechanical innovation.

Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak “John Mayer” Limited Edition dial detail and self-winding Calibre 5134 movement

The watch’s technical specifications are equally impressive. The heart of the timepiece is the Manufacture’s self-winding Calibre 5134, a movement that maintains a slim profile despite its complexity, measuring just 4.3 mm in thickness. This calibre is an evolution of the Calibre 2120/2800, first launched in 1978 during the quartz crisis—a pivotal moment when mechanical watchmaking proved its enduring value against the rising tide of quartz technology. The Calibre 5134 adapted to a larger 41 mm case size while keeping the streamlined elegance that the Royal Oak is known for. This movement also features a perpetual calendar, one of the most poetic complications in watchmaking, which measures the time in a way that needs no adjustment for months of varying lengths or even leap years.

The Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition case is crafted from 18-carat white gold, matched with a bracelet of the same material. The use of white gold not only enriches the watch with luxe sophistication but also serves as the perfect canvas to highlight the striking blue “Crystal Sky” dial. While this quarter-million-dollar watch boasts a water resistance of 20 meters, I’d say it’s more for peace of mind than for actual deep-sea diving. After all, who really plans to test those limits with such a masterpiece on their wrist?

18-carat white gold matching bracelet

John Mayer’s passion for this watch is clearly evident through his words and deep involvement in the design process. He views the watch as a portal to a deeper experience and an artistic expression that invites contemplation and connection. “My favorite watches have dials that you can stare endlessly at,” Mayer explains. “A great watch dial feels like a picture window—you look into it, not at it. In the case of this QP, it’s like looking up at a moonless sky. There is a true sense of nature in it.” This reflection captures the watch’s essence, showing it as a canvas that reflects Mayer’s profound appreciation for the nuanced artistry of watchmaking.

Mayer’s engagement was comprehensive; he was involved in every decision, from choosing materials to refining the dial’s specific finish, to ensure that every aspect of the watch aligned with his aesthetic sensibilities. This dedication underscores how the watch goes beyond its functional role to serve as a canvas that mirrors his deep appreciation for the nuanced artistry of watchmaking. Every element of its design, informed by Mayer’s keen artistic eye, invites those who seek not just to tell time but to tell a story.

Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak “John Mayer” Limited Edition

Only 200 pieces of the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar “John Mayer” Limited Edition will be crafted, making it a rare collectible item for watch enthusiasts and Mayer fans alike. Each piece is a tribute to the legacy of the Calibre 5134 and a celebration of Audemars Piguet’s enduring dedication to excellence in design and functionality. This watch is a masterful blend of precise engineering and striking design, serving as a pinnacle of technical skill and a vivid expression of beauty. It embodies the seamless integration of form and function, where every component measures time and tells a story of artistic excellence.
