2024 was kickstarted with CES, marking an exceptional and exciting start of the year for the electronics world. It’s the time of the year when the industry presents its most innovative products, concepts, and designs – showcasing the best of its work. And, this year CES 2024 was no disappointment, we came across groundbreaking products designed to improve and enhance our lives, as well as the lives of our pets, and the overall welfare of the planet! We also picked up quite a few exciting trends at CES that we believe may shape the path for the tech and electronics world in 2024, and the coming years. From an incredible use of AI to a rise in transparent screens – we’ve dived into some of the innovative and valuable trends we spotted at CES 2024.

1. Rise of Transparent Screens

At CES 2024, industry giants like LG and Samsung provided an innovative and refreshing take on screens! LG presented a TV that almost disappears into the background when you don’t want to see it, while Samsung showcased its latest transparent MicroLED tech. Transparent screens have been a major trend at CES, giving us an acute idea of what our television viewing experience could be in the years to come.

LG’s SIGNATURE OLED T is the world’s first wireless transparent 4K OLED TV. The screen gets entirely covered and lit up with vibrant pictures, fluid animations, and ecstatic images, completely concealing what’s behind those parts, while retaining transparency in the areas without images. Samsung’s MicroLED was kept beside Transparent OLEDs and LEDS, quite literally presenting the distinction between them. The MicroLEDS have much better illumination and colors, with almost no bezels on the side, creating an edge-to-edge experience.

2. Robotics

Robotics was a major recurring theme at CES 2024, and we saw some super cool ones with modern innovations. Robots are invading our homes, one step at a time, so it was no shocker to witness some at CES, and we must admit some of them looked pretty cute too, like Ogmen’s ORo – an intelligent home robot that was designed to be the ‘pawfect’ playmate, guardian, and caretaker for you canine best friend!

We also caught a glimpse of Beatb0t –  the most advanced intelligent pool-cleaning robot for your ultimate convenience and peace of mind. It is equipped with 20 sensors, 9 motors, 4 brushes, and 2 filters, and emits not only immense power but also mindblowing smarts. Shift Robotics’ Moonwalker X was another fantastic catch – they’re redesigned robotic shoes with small wheels that are designed to give people advanced mobility and safety in their line of work.

3. Prevalence of AI in Laptops

At CES 2024 we saw companies such as Lenovo and Acer taking crucial steps to integrate AI into their line of products. The potential and scope for AI are slowly becoming undeniable, although it remains a frightening concept for some. Acer employed AI in its latest generation of lightweight laptop family, while Lenovo provided its own AI offering in the form of the Yoga Creator Zone.

The Acer PurifiedView AI-boosted conferencing features include Background Blur, Automatic Framing, and Eye Contact. On the other hand, Acer PurifiedVoic 2.0 makes use of AI to reduce background noise and offer crisp and clear voices in all meetings. They also feature a dedicated Windows Copilot key which allows AI-powered optimizations. With the Yoga Creator Zone, Lenovo offers a generative AI that comes built-in into its Yoga-series laptops that are running Microsoft Windows 11.

4. Reemergence Of Old-School Tech

We’ve all had (or most of us) had our BlackBerry days, where we would swiftly type out a long response using our QWERTY keyboard. There are benefits to having and using physical keys to type with, for example – muscle memory, accuracy, and sheer satisfaction. 5. Focus on Sustainability

The focus on sustainability has been prevalent for a while, and we saw brands like Acer and Mosslab dive deeper into the sustainable tech game. Acer has been carrying the sustainability torch since 2021 with its Vero line of laptops, however this year they took it a step further with the Aspire Vero 16 which offers the most powerful carbon-neutral AI PC yet! Acer’s Aspire Vero 16 features a chassis made with 60% PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) and uses no volatile organic compounds, paint, or additives in its Cobblestone gray surface. It also uses an OceanGlass trackpad that is built using recycled ocean-bound plastic, and it is shipped in 100% recycled packaging.

Mosslab on the other hand offered the Moss Air, which is essentially a terrarium in a sleek and futuristic form. Moss Air makes use of the natural capabilities of moss to filter air, and produce clean oxygen for you! It is a desk accessory that combines an air purifier and humidifier in one body.

Why is it noteworthy?

Measuring 56x41x25cm, the cat tray is inspired by the angular shape of the Tesla’s electric pickup truck. It is said to have a futuristic shape and is embedded with thick corrugated paper.

What we like

  • Can be used as a multifunctional space for your cat
  • It can support up to 15kgs, so can house cats of various breeds and sizes

What we dislike

  • It’s a simple cardboard box, there’s nothing really cyber about it
  • The real functionality and utility of the tray are still unknown, people are confused about whether it’s a cat bed or a litter box

Since the modules can be attached, it allows you to build your customizable art that matches. Each panel can be easily layered and is available in different colors, which when unified together, create a lovely and complete art piece.

What we like

  • It is a fun and engaging experience for those designing, installing, and experiencing the design

What we dislike

  • Geometric design may not align with everyone’s taste or interior decor

9. Nothing Head (1)

These conceptual pair of over-ear cans are called the Nothing Head (1), and they’re inspired by Nothing’s design language and company DNA. The Head (1) is open, transparent, and extremely fun, and comes with its own Glyph Interface.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Glyph Interface takes the usual audio experience of a headphone and transforms it into an audiovisual one. It also signifies the branding of the headphones, while also functioning as a notification light to let you know if your headphones are connected, or to let others know you’re listening to music and don’t wanna be bothered!

What we like

  • Features transparency-focused design that lets you see underneath the hood

What we dislike

  • While innovative, the Glyph could be seen as overly flashy or distracting for some users.

10. Earbugs

This unique audio accessory provides an innovative audio experience for the listener by merging the goodness of in-ear sound isolation of wireless earbuds with the abilities of bone conducting technology to provide users with a comfortable and top-notch experience.

Why is it noteworthy?

The combination of bone conduction with the earbuds’ dynamic drivers creates a 3D soundscape to provide a never-before audio delivery. The ergonomically shaped earbuds are ideal for fitness and outdoorsy enthusiasts offering them a decent water-resistant rating.

What we like

  • Features bone conducting technology for superior transparency mode

We discovered the beauty and magic of tiny homes a couple of years ago, and we’re happy to see it was an excellent discovery. Since then, tiny homes have gained immense popularity, and been experimented with to create even better, more beautiful, and functional designs. We saw a torrent of ingenious and thoughtfully designed tiny homes in 2023, and we’ve curated some of our favorites for you. These unique tiny homes are space-saving and eco-friendly, reducing the load on Mother Earth, while also managing to look as cute as a button. From a 3D-printed tiny home that has the same price tag as a car to the world’s smartest tiny home that expands up to 3 times its original size – these tiny homes will have you swooning!

1. Nestron’s Tiny Homes

Nestron’s range of tiny homes is pretty sleek and futuristic with a highly customizable and aesthetically pleasing prefab design. The range includes the – Cube One (C1), Cube Two (C2), and Cube Two X (C2X) homes that cost from $42.2k to $126.6k, depending on the configuration you choose at Nestron’s online showroom.

Why is it noteworthy?

The futuristic homes include solar electricity (or local electricity), heating, and a fully-equipped bathroom with a smart toilet. The interiors can be customized, and they’re quite stunning and ideal for sci-fi fans who want their own futuristic homes!

What we like

  • Almost everything is handled by Nestron – from logistics and transport to unloading
  • Built from recyclable materials

What we dislike

  • They’re not very spacious, even the most expensive option, Cube Two X, only offers 398 square feet of space

2. Pod Studio

Meet the world’s smartest tiny home called Pod Studio! Designed by California-based Podform, the Pod Studio is an innovative and one-of-a-kind tiny home that can expand up to three times its original size. It is built using steel and aluminum and features a solar awning energy system

Why is it noteworthy?

The original size of the Pod Studio is 161 square feet, and it can be converted to 454 square feet within 15 minutes! It is easily transportable and portable and doesn’t need any foundation, because of its built-in hydraulic legs.

What we like

  • Equipped with solar panels and smart technology that can be easily controlled through an app

What we dislike

  • It’s not out on the market yet, so we’re not sure what the final home will be like

3. Vagabundo Flex

This special little home is called the Vagabundo Flex, and it extends over two levels, thanks to an innovative automated lifting root system that provides the home with enhanced comfort and functionality. The unique home is constructed using timber framing, wood fiber insulation, and double-glazed aluminum windows.

Why is it noteworthy?

It features an innovative and unique design that supports the roof, allowing it to rise to a height of 20.3 feet, which creates a spacious and expansive interior that occupies 300 square feet.

What we like

  • Bulky elements have been smartly hidden in corners and cupboards
  • Equipped with essential amenities, including panoramic windows and timber furnishings

What we dislike

  • Hefty price tag as compared to other tiny homes on the market

4. Fujitsubo

Japanese construction startup Serendix unveiled ‘Fujitsubo’ – a small home priced at 5.5 million yen or around $37,600! Serendix says it takes almost 44.5 hours to print and assemble the home.

Why is it noteworthy?

This compact home is called the Fujitsubo, or “the barnacle”, and it occupies only 538 square feet, which is quite small when compared to the average American home, which happens to be five times large. The home is 3D-printed and houses one bedroom, a bathroom, and an open living room connected to a kitchen.

What we like

  • Costs as much as a car while offering essential amenities and features

What we dislike

  • It’s still in the conceptual phase, so we’re not sure how the final structure will turn out to be

5. Câpsula

This tiny homes concept is called Câpsula, and it is designed by architecture studio i29. Launched during Dutche Design Week 2023, these prefabricated cabins and tiny homes are inspired by design-led thinking and aim to be simple yet functional.

Why is it noteworthy?

The project is pretty small-scale but the plans and ambitions for it are quite large. The goal and intention behind the project is to promote slow living, and create the ideal cabin architecture with a couple of amazing options.

What we like

  • Influenced by the minimalist style of architecture
  • Equipped with top-notch amenities and features

What we dislike

  • The small footprint of the homes may be considered too small for some

6. Ecocapsule NextGen

A few years ago, Ecocapsule launched a unique egg-shaped off-grid tiny home which was a major hit! And, now they’ve released a new and improved version called the Ecocapsule NextGen. The Ecocapsule NextGen promises to be an upgraded and elevated version of the tiny home.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Ecocapsule NextGen is larger than the previous home, it has been expanded to 5.2m from 4.67m, which makes it bigger than the original version, while also allowing it to maintain a compact and efficient form.

What we like

  • Features a gull-wing door that makes the home more open to the outdoors

What we dislike

  • It’s not released on the market, so we don’t know what the actual final product will be like

7. The Nest

Dubbed the Nest, this tiny cabin is one of the short-term rental properties available at ReWild Rentals. Nestled in Hocking Hills, Ohio, the cabin displays the stunning beauty of the location to the guests. It features a unique layout that makes it feel much bigger than it is!

Why is it noteworthy?

The small house is clad in black board-and-batten wood siding, providing it with a modern and contemporary vibe which is further defined by a long sloping roof on one side, which also offers shelter to the outdoor patio.

What we like

  • Unique layout unlike the typical tiny homes, which makes it feel much larger than it is

What we dislike

  • The barn-style door can be considered a bit old-fashioned and doesn’t provide much privacy in the bathroom, which is inconvenient for residents

8. Sakura Tiny House

Designed by Canada-based Acorn Tiny Homes, the Sakura tiny house is intended to be a game-changer compared to typical tiny homes on the market. It doesn’t feature wheels, but instead is equipped with an innovative space-saving interior which includes a transforming bedroom and kitchen.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Sakura tiny home is breaking ground in the tiny home arena, by taking this popular housing style to a whole new and upgraded version. It is inspired by popular Japanese design trends, which can be even witnessed in its name.

What we like

  • Heavily inspired by Japanese design holistically
  • Features a flexible multipurpose space, making it truly one-of-a-kind

What we dislike

  • It can accommodate two residents and only two guests, and it could be a tight fit. Not the best option for families who like to host people

9. Browny

Coined Browny, this adorable-looking tiny home ranks high on versatility, as it can effortlessly and efficiently house a home office, exercise area, and a guest bedroom within a length of 6 meters, while also proving to be quite comfortable.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Browny is supported by a double-axle trailer and finished in red cedar, which is further accentuated by aluminum accenting and a roof. It is a great-looking tiny home with a generous amount of glazing to maximize natural light within the home.

What we like

  • Accommodates multiple amenities in a small space
  • Features integrated storage space

What we dislike

  • Doesn’t feature a proper kitchen and bathroom, which can be inconvenient for users

10. Samara and James’ Tiny Home

This 16-foot-long tiny home was designed by a lovely couple Samara and James, and is home to them. It features all the design ideas and moves you usually wouldn’t execute in a small space, making this tiny home a truly unique one.

Why is it noteworthy?

Although the interior and exterior have a dark theme, and there aren’t a lot of windows in the house, the home still manages to be quite spacious with a certain balance to it, while maintaining a serene connection to the site it is located on.

What we like

  • Inspired by Japanese design, especially by shou sugi ban
  • Features three modules, that can be moved and reconfigured if the home ever needs to be expanded

What we dislike

  • It only features an outdoor shower, which some people may not be comfortable with

What we like

  • The embedded artificial intelligence ensures that specific areas of your discomfort are addressed

  • Aesthetics are quite similar to other electric toothbrushes on the market, nothing too unique

Why is it noteworthy?

There are different sustainable processes involved in coming up with this including designing them digitally, 3D printing, growing the organisms, enriching them with bio-pigments, fabrication, etc. It begins with the waste materials being ground into a paste-like substrate as a foundation.

What we like

  • Strong and rigid yet lightweight
  • 100% sustainable

What we dislike

  • May not complement bathrooms with modern interiors

8. Tiles Weight Scale

Called the Tiles Weight Scale, this bathroom scale is quite literally bathroom-inspired. It features a glossy, tiled design and would fit well with modern contemporary bathrooms.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Tiles Weight Scale looks like a panel of your quintessential ceramic bathroom tiles. They aren’t made from ceramic, which means they aren’t slippery, and the white panel has an LED display that shines through the material, activating the moment you stand on it.

What we like

  • Blends right into the bathroom’s decor when not in use

What we dislike

  • It’s a concept currently, so we’re not sure how well it would translate to a real tangible product

9. one&done

With the one&done, the designer integrates and combines a toothbrush and a candy dispenser. Inspired by a PEZ dispenser, the toothbrush features a convenient little storage space to hold toothpaste tablets, completely eliminating the need for toothpaste tubes.

Why is it noteworthy?

This allows you to carry your toothbrush and toothpaste in one compact form and prevents the mess that ensues with carrying and dealing with a tube of toothpaste.

What we like

  • Ensures that you use the right amount of toothpaste every day, something that isn’t easily achieved when you’re squeezing paste out of a tube

What we dislike

  • The toothbrush is pretty thick and may be difficult to brush with and carry out different motions to clean your teeth

10. Face à face

Italian bathroom brand Agape teamed up with French architect Jean Nouvel to create this beautiful collection of sinks and baths. The name Face à face is derived from the dual meaning of the word ‘face’ in French.

Why is it noteworthy?

The collection essentially consists of a stunning sink and a bathtub. Both products have a pretty angular feel to them and are highlighted by upright slabs of marble, as well as a tilted backrest in the tub.

What we like

  • The collection truly celebrates the beauty of marble
  • Comes in various versions to choose from

What we dislike

  • Space-consuming designs that are better suited for larger bathrooms
